President Biden picked a dandelion for Dr. Jill Biden on their walk to Marine One

US President Joe Biden travels to Georgia for an event to mark his 100th day in office

Has anyone else gotten whiplash from the speed from which we went from “Donald Trump incites deadly insurrection” to “Joe Biden picks a dandelion for his beloved wife”? It’s really remarkable and it’s so soothing. Like, I don’t believe Grandpa Joe is doing everything, all the time. But what I love is that this sly old coot has hired qualified and competent professionals at every level, and that he is actually really dang wholesome.

To celebrate his first 100 days, President Biden took his wife, Dr. Jill Biden, to Georgia for a private visit to President Carter and First Lady Rosalynn Carter. Pres. Biden also did a drive-in rally in Georgia for supporters, because he’s still encouraging social distancing and mask-wearing, like a g–damn boss. The way he role-models good pandemic behavior!! As the Bidens were leaving the White House to go to Georgia, Handsome Joe saw a dandelion and he thought “well that’s neat.” And so he bent down and picked it for Jill. These two are going to make me cry.

In other Biden news, he was asked if he was told in advance about the FBI raid of Rudy Giuliani’s Manhattan home and office. Biden told Today: “I give you my word, I was not. I made a pledge. I would not interfere in any way — order or try to stop any investigation the Justice Department had underway. I learned about that last night when the rest of the world learned about it.” Biden also told Today that he has not been briefed about the raid or Giuliani, and he’s “not asking to be briefed — that’s the Justice Department’s independent judgment.” He lamented the Trump administration’s politicization of Justice and how many good lawyers quit during the Trump era. Biden said: “That’s not the role of the president to say who should be prosecuted, when they should be prosecuted, who should not be prosecuted. That’s not the role of the president. The Justice Department is the people’s lawyer, not the president’s lawyer.”

As for Dr. Jill, there’s now a petition asking FLOTUS Biden to change the Rose Garden back to the colorful, joyful garden which Jackie Kennedy designed. Melania Trump redesigned it as an all-white funeral garden and people are depressed.

it’s super sweet and romantic. and his statements about the justice department being separate and not directed by him, are amazing too.

    • I agree about both! And let’s be honest, he could just make speech after speech criticizing (rightly so!) the last guy, and ride the popularity of NOT BEING HIM, but instead, he’s put his head down, worked his staff to get A LOT of shit done and only rarely mentions the other guy unless he makes an incredibly important point, like here-The Justice Department should not be politicized and the President has no business interfering with it. I think, just like Clinton, and Obama, he inherited a fucking mess and so far he’s turning it around.

@ laurelcanyoner, it amazes me how we always have to rely on Democratic presidents to come back into the WH to clean up after a RepubliCANT’S presidential term(s). As we did with Nixon, Regan and both Bushes, and here we are cleaning up their messes again, but we still have heartless and gutless Repugnants that refuse to play ball or attempt at healing the country. Their game is always denounce “NO” on every matter, including this current Infrastructure bill. They don’t the Democrats to spend money, but they want to spend money, give tax breaks to the 1% (their tax bracket), and to benefit from their positions to allow them early access for making their person investments profitable while leaving the common man to suffer from the stock market.

The video of their walk to the chopper is quite touching and sweet. Her heels were getting stuck in the lawn so she was taking small steps on her toes, he walked slowly to stay with her and picked the dandelion for her. When she reached the chopper, she blew on the dandelion. She went up the stairs first and he put a hand on her back to steady her. So refreshing to see a first couple who genuinely care and delight in one another instead of performative, contractually negotiated hand holding.

    • Jess says:

That’s so freaking sweet it makes me smile, this is normal behavior. Trump would’ve let Melania sink in the dirt or she would’ve swatted his hand away if he tried to touch her!

    • HoofRat says:

My old, cold heart just grew three sizes. *snif*

    • whatWHAT? says:

what a difference between the last couple.

and dollars to donuts that 45 couldn’t have even bent down like Joe did to pick a flower if he even wanted to.

    • AMA1977 says:

I just love them so much. Somebody is cutting onions in here, I swear it.

I’m glad they’ve got each other and that they so obviously still love and like each other so much. We celebrated our 16th wedding anniversary this month and I hope my husband always looks at me and talks about me the way Joe looks at and talks about Jill. It’s a beautiful thing.

  3. CJ says:

I LOVE Dr Jill. I expected to like her, given that she’s a professional woman who was clearly up for being FLOTUS, but the more I see of her the more I actually love her.

From carefully thought out fashion choices (cried twice now over her having all the state’s flowers embroidered on meaningful outfits), to role modelling good pandemic behavior (her matching masks, J’ADORE!) to just how hardworking and wholesome and thoughtful she is.

If you’re on facebook I strongly recommend following her official page. I carefuly curate my newsfeed and even still she is always a bright spot in it.

  4. Noodle says:

I don’t always agree with his politics, but it is refreshing when your President is a damn nice person. I don’t feel like it’s “put on” like a lot of his detractors feel. It must just be weird for them to imagine that a guy can be a good guy, be sweet to his wife and family, and still get the job done.

  5. Aphra says:

    Petition: signed

  6. HufflepuffLizLemon says:

Her marching mask! They are the cutest!

  7. Merricat says:

This is why the previous guy was afraid of Joe: not enough dirt on him. It’s so nice to wake up without a racing pulse and acid-drenched stomach.

    • LaUnicaAngelina says:

Merricat, that description of waking up during the previous one’s term is the perfect description! Wow!

    • Trillion says:

      he-who-shall-not-be-named! Love it.

    • cassandra says:

And no more obsessively checking the news every hour waiting for the other-other-other shoe to drop. I didn’t realize how truly stressed I was until the weight lifted

      • AMA1977 says:

This, I can relax and not feel ever-vigilant for another scandal or lawless decision or terrible policy. I am so grateful for normal, thoughtful, measured leadership from a kind, respectful (and respectable) person. Awesome Dr. Jill is just the cherry on top. I love how proud Joe is of his wife, he’s got a catch and he knows it! And she’s got his back, 1000%. It’s the best of what a long-term partnership should be.

  8. fluffy_bunny says:

I love how Dr Jill’s mask matches her dress.

    • sa says:

I like the matching mask too. She does that a lot and I am here for it!

I think her dress is a short sleeved version of a dress Meghan Markle wore a little while back? If not it’s very similar.

I agree with everyone that it’s very sweet for Joe to pick a dandelion for Jill, but also (and I know this isn’t a great take) but it makes me feel a little better about my lawn that the White House lawn also has dandelions.

      • whatWHAT? says:

keep your dandelions! They are one of the FIRST things that “bloom” and therefore the first meals for bees and other pollenating insects. plus, their leaves are actually edible and VERY good for you. saute them up with some salt/pepper/garlic and they are good greens.

      • JanetDR says:

Every little bit of the dandelion is edible! I love to make dandelion wine. It’s from the blossoms and it’s like bottled sunshine! I let it bubble away until the winter solstice.
Also, I love them as a couple!

      • whatWHAT? says:

Janet, Imma need your recipe for dandelion wine…

      • Sue Denim says:

I was just looking at the dandelions in my garden, before hearing this sweet story, and thinking, how could anyone not love these? I guess one person’s weed is another’s gift, I have a white butterfly that loves them too.

      • JanetDR says:

@whatWhat, I use Susun Weed’s recipe. It pops right up in a search. So fun to make!

  9. MsIam says:

I wonder what her wish was, lol? When I was a kid, we would blow on the dandelion and make a wish like it was a birthday candle. Those two are so cute together unlike The Other Ones (shudder).

    • BothSidesNow says:

So did I!!! I do find them adorable on every level!! I also find Kamala and her husband adorable too, but it’s so lovely to see an independent couple who truly love each other as individuals and are strong supporters of each other and together. He seems to be smitten with her since the first day that they met. And he has mentioned how lucky he is to be married to her, which we just discussed with Clooney as well. It’s great to see men that are clearly in love with their wives and admit that they are the lucky ones!!

  10. ce says:

Yep, lump in my throat. Thanks Joe

  11. tempest prognosticator says:

This is sweet. They are kind, decent people and it’s such a relief to have them in the WH after what the ex put us through.

  12. jferber says:

Caty Page, I don’t understand your comment. What are you saying about President Biden? Also, I wanted to mention the grace, dignity, serenity and normalcy these two lovely people bring to the White House. It’s a balm to our ravaged souls after the four years of the psychotic asshole, who is still wreaking havoc from his Florida swamp aka Mar-a-lago.

  13. lobstah says:

Meanwhile, Doug Emhoff was blowing kisses and ecstatically waving at Kamala before Biden’s address to Congress. Two wonderful couples! It’s SO nice to see love and mutual respect back in the White House.

  14. Miatagal says:

I just love these two! Romance and love are back in our people’s house!

  15. Betsy says:

Historian Michael Beschloss has been a new Rose Garden hater since the gardening atrocity occurred; I’ve enjoyed his tweets mocking the sad space that is the new garden.

I love a white garden, aka a moon garden, but the Rose Garden isn’t really the place for a white garden as they’re best enjoyed in the evening when the white blooms glow against the dark foliage.

Of course with the former occupants, it was probably meant to be a white power garden.

  16. Eleonora says:

    Cute 🙂

  17. EliseM says:

I love these two. However, they scored major points in my book for paying a visit to President Carter and his wife. He may not have been the greatest POTUS, but he sure has served the people well.

    • Oh-Dear says:

I look at the Carter Presidency as a long view – Carter is an amazing humanitarian and would not have had the platform he has had if he hadn’t been President. Perhaps the Presidency was the portal for his life’s work more than his 4 years in office.

    • BothSidesNow says:

He did serve the people well and I have been a great admirer of his for decades. Unfortunately he lost due to the capturing of the fugitives and they summoned that Carter wouldn’t pull a military attempt to rescue the prisoners. But all in all, he was an outstanding president but then we were stuck with Reagan. What a clusterf#ck he was!!

  18. Lightpurple says:

The Cat is coming! Dr Biden said in an interview that the White House cat is “waiting in the wings” and will be arriving soon and the new White House cat is a girl cat.

  19. Amando says:

So sweet! It’s nice to see a happy, loving couple back in the White House. Any updates on Major?

  20. MangoAngelesque says:

And somewhere, Leslie Knope swoons dramatically…

    • Christine says:

I keep waiting for Amy Poehler to realize Leslie Knope needs a weekly talk show, sort of like John Oliver, where she recaps her crush’s adorableness in the previous week. She certainly has enough material! Come on, Amy! You NEED a Joe Biden YouTube show!

  21. Shannon says:

    I love this guy!

  22. Rise & Shine says:

Swoon worthy! Supported him and support him now. Beyond that though, things like this make me love President Biden and his absolutely amazing wife Jill so much. The simplest of gestures go such a long way, it’s true. And yeah, compare and contrast, it’s like Goofus and Gallant between him and that last guy Traitor Trump. Love Joe and Jill!
