David Hasselhoff rushed to hospital for alcohol poisoning – again

During the more than two-year war of attrition with his ex-wife, Pamela Bach, rumors of David Hasselhoff’s rampant alcoholism sprung up and stuck. Back in 2007, a YouTube video that David’s daughter made of her dad drunkly slurring while eating a hamburger became a sensation, and made David enter rehab in December of 2007. Some sources claimed that David had been struggling for years, and that the divorce had sent David into some kind of self-destructive tailspin. Other claimed that all of the bad press was all part of Pamela Bach’s smear campaign. Back in May of this year, there were rumors David had to be hospitalized for alcohol poisoning – and now it’s happened again. Radar is reporting that David was taken, by ambulance, to a hospital after going on a hell of a bender:

David Hasselhoff was taken by ambulance to a hospital because he again has alcohol poisoning, RadarOnline.com learned exclusively.

The Hoff was taken from his home to an Encino, CA hospital Sunday afternoon after 911 was called.

Sadly, Hoff was hospitalized with alcohol poisoning in May.

And RadarOnline.com has also learned exclusively that the actor has been hospitalized with alcohol poisoning more than five times during the past few years.

The Hoff had been drinking for more than a day this time, a source told RadarOnline.com. He recently wrapped taping for America’s Got Talent and shortly after went on a bender.

Hoff was drinking vodka once again before his latest emergency. At least two people were home with him and one of them called 911.

Hoff has consistently been in denial about his severe alcoholism say people close to him. He denied that it was alcohol poisoning behind his hospitalization earlier this year but the details of his story changed as more people confirmed it.

“It’s sad,” a source told RadarOnline.com. “He needs help and he’s in denial.”

[From Radar]

It’s very sad, and I suspect that David is in denial about his alcohol problems. The fact that he’s still dealing with this stuff after being publicly humiliated two years ago shows (to me) that he hasn’t taken his recovery seriously at all. Will this be the “rock bottom” David needs to take his alcoholism seriously? Probably not. If this really is the fifth time he’s been treated for alcohol poisoning, something tells me a stomach pumping and an IV drip isn’t really doing the job.

Poor Hoff. It would be nice if he could get a grip on reality and get himself the help that he needs. His girls do not need to see this from their father.

  2. Lway says:

I kind of feel sorry for him 🙁

  3. Diane says:

It’s possible he drinks periodically or episodically and not continually. I have a feeling once he decides it’s interfering with his life, he’ll get the help he needs.

I feel sorry for him too–and I hope he wises up sooner rather than later; for his daughters’ sakes as well as his own.

  5. CandyKay says:

    Hope he doesn’t drive.

Alcoholism is the only disease you can have where people yell at you. If it’s truly a disease he can’t help it and relapse rates are high even for those in A.A. I feel sorry for him too. When you screw up as a celebrity the whole world finds out. But is it a screw up or a “disease”? You really can’t have it both ways.

I’m not sure we can jump to the conclusion that he’s in denial. His livelihood (and identity) are tied to his public persona. Of course he’s going to paint the best picture he can PUBLICLY. We don’t know what’s going on in his private world (nor should we). He may have a solid grasp that he cannot consume alcohol “normally” coupled with a solid grasp that he can’t fight his compulsion to keep trying (to consume alcohol “normally”). It’s a vicious circle. The fact that he could face the world again after that humiliating hamburger video shows how rooted his identity is in his public persona. I don’t think I ever would have left my house again. He apparently couldn’t bear the thought of it being our last memories of him publicly, so he re-grouped, and I imagine he’ll do the same now.

I’m with you Lantana we cannot assume he is in denial, maybe he is fighting as hard as he can and just can’t hang on to the sobriety. So sorry for him wish things were better.

He probably doesn’t have too many hospital trips left in him. They should do a celebrity interventon. Maybe Kitt car could talk to him.

as a recovering alcoholic, nobody knows better than other alcoholics how hard it is to try and get this thing under control. I doubt he’s in denial , I’m sure he knows, he just hasn’t accepted it. When you accept it and realize that your life has become unmanageable and you’re powerless over it then he can make that first step. If he went into a posh rehab joint that to me isn’t going to cut it, he needs to go to a rehab where he is in there with some other hard core alcoholics and drug addicts, I saw all of this and the only way I did it was because I hit rock bottom, lost my wife and children and still didn’t stop, even though I love my kids to death, it wasn’t enough. They taught us that you hate yourself and the reason we do what we do is because we subconsciously want to kill ourselves, we drink that stuff that could possibly kill us, and we know it but do it anyway. I pray he surrenders because even though i don’t know him it breaks my heart to see someone go through that. Until he REALLY hits bottom, loses EVERYTHING, money, house, kids, fans and has NOTHING then maybe he will realize that damn I need to do something..and hopefully he will bounce back
