Jennifer Lopez just realized that she’s ‘good’ on her own & ‘happiness starts with me’

Jennifer Lopez heads to the Country Mart with her family

Here are some photos of Jennifer Lopez, Ben Affleck and some of their kids at Brentwood Country Mart over the weekend. This is one of Jennifer Garner’s favorite places – she used to get photographed there with her kids constantly, and those photos definitely helped with her image of “just a normal mom with cute kids and a garbage husband!” It looks like the Country Mart was one of Ben’s favorite places too. Anyway, summer of Bennifer pap strolls, enjoy!

One of the funniest things to come out of the Bennifer Redux is the interview J.Lo gave to Zane Lowe last week, where she said (among other things): “I want my people who care about me — because I care about them so much — to know that I’ve really gotten to a place in my life where I’m great on my own.” This from the woman who got love letter emails from Ben while she was engaged to A-Rod, then dumped A-Rod and was seen with Ben two seconds later. But sure, she’s “great on her own.” Well, Jennifer has even more thoughts about being “on her own” and how she realized she didn’t need a man. For real.

Jennifer Lopez is opening up about her happy life now. In a PEOPLE exclusive preview of the star’s chat with Apple Music 1’s Ebro Darden about her new Rauw Alejandro collaboration “Cambia El Paso” airing at 4:30 p.m. EST on Monday, she said she recently realized that she was “good” on her own and that “happiness starts within me.”

“Once I realized that, things [happened]. Things happen that you don’t expect to ever happen. Once you get to the point where you’re like, ‘This is not right for me, or this doesn’t feel good, or I need to make an adjustment here. This is not really about anybody else but me.’ Once you do that, stuff starts falling into place.” She added: “I think that’s how you should process this moment that I feel again.”

Lopez went on to say that her life typically bleeds into her art.

“It always shows up in the music,” she said. “Sometimes you have to change direction, even though that might be painful or it might seem weird to other people. It’s really just about who you are and what feels right to you, and that’s what it’s about.”

Earlier in the chat, Lopez admitted that “trying to grow and evolve and become more fully myself and true to myself” in the public eye over the past three decades has been a “journey.”

“My mission has always been to kind of put love into the world, love and beauty and art,” she said. “And that has always been my thing, and music and movies and all the things and how it manifests itself. But at the end of the day … I think when you do watch artists and you’re lucky enough as I am to be able to continue to do what you love for so long, you watch a life. You watch a life unfold in front of you and you watch a person really find their way.”

[From People]

I mean, in the larger sense, what she’s saying is a subtweet of Alex Rodriguez and not Ben Affleck. She’s saying that when she was Alex, she realized she would rather be alone than be unhappy with him for one more minute. That’s what all of this is about. That was a new experience for her, being so desperately unhappy in a relationship and genuinely wanting to be free, because usually she needs to be with someone no matter what. And so she’s saying that she wanted to be alone and then Ben came along and wanted to be with her again and that was the universe telling her that “it’s okay to be alone…because another dude is on the way.”

Yes she decided to dump Arod quite some time before it actually happened. I’ve always thought that. I don’t think Ben was a jump-off, exactly. But, he made hay while the sun was shining as my grandma used to say. lol

  2. Belle says:

Hard to believe given the makeup/breakup moments with Arod. There was absolutely no going back once Ben came into the picture but before it was always a possibility. For that statement to ring true for someone who doesn’t know these people, she would have to dump Arod and NEVER returned to sell me I would rather be alone than unhappy. She was unhappy but didn’t like being alone.

  3. 123qwerty says:

That all sounds right, but I’m not sure she believes it.

Aside from her bad picker, I’ve never heard a bad thing about her.

    • AnneSurely says:

It’s like we’re all sitting at brunch with the friend who only shows up when she’s between boyfriends and tells us every time that being single feels really right and she’s in a really good place. Ok girl.

  4. Izzy says:

LMAO she can’t be single for five hot minutes. But do go on.

    • goofpuff says:

Lol no kidding! She will stay clinging to a toxic relationship forever until she finds herself a jump off.

      • Lena says:

Yeah I don’t for a minute believe she would have left ARod (although she may have gone the we-don’t-need-to-be-married-to-be-happy route of a lot of divorcees) unless she had her jump off ready and waiting and smarting from his own recent dumping right there.

  5. GrnieWnie says:

I love that her daughter seems to be in full rebel phase. As in, anti-JLo glam.

    • Samantha says:

Actually no, her daughter is a die hard Billie Eilish fan – the reason for the hair and clothes.

  6. Merricat says:

It seems that Emme has reached the age when young women define themselves in opposition to their mothers. Not an easy time.

  7. Case says:

This just all sounds so silly when she has NOT been alone her whole life, and definitely not more than a few weeks between Arod and Ben Affleck.

  8. Chantale says:

I knew her and A-Rod were about to breakup since the photos of her on the beach alone around Christmas time.

    • Samantha says:

Their engagement was postponed twice – she was not a happy woman towards the end of their relationship. This man cheated on her throughout their 4-year relationship. He has cheated on EVERY female he as ever been with. She turned a blind eye in the beginning regarding the cheating rumors but then could not ignore the truth any longer. How long was she suppose to be up with the abuse? Good for her that she left him.

  9. Seraphina says:

    👌🏽 😉

Whatever helps her sleep at night I guess.

  10. psl says:

    J. Lo, just stop. Stop giving interviews, it is just embarrassing. Your actions clearly show you are NOT okay on your own.

  11. Carolnr says:

My people? JL is desperately trying to convince the public that she is ok on her own, due to alot of the public commenting otherwise! I agree.. stop talking about it & just makes her look pathetic!
I believe that she & Arod were at least broken up before they denied it & even sent out a statement that they were still together! I think she had Ben waiting in the wings. What I will never understand, is why in god’s name did she post that pic of Emme sobbing? Who does that to their child (ren)!
IMO,( l may get slack for this) but I don’t feel that JL & Ben fit intellectually. Yes sexually, but eventually you have to also be a good fit there, as well! Say what you want about Ben, but I feel that Ben is highly intelligent & will eventually grow bored with her….I always thought that Ben would be great with someone who worked with him in the Congo initiative. He seems so passionate about that & it seems to keep him grounded…

    • KissMyA**23 says:

I think you’re right. I don’t think they match on an intellectual level. I don’t even think they really match on a sexual level. There were rumors the 1st time around that she put in their pre-nup that he had to have sex with her at least 4xs a week. (Every week without fail would be annoying, doing something willingly is one thing, being told this is the way things will go is another. But I’m a rebel lol.) She probably tries to control him in bed, like she tries to control everything. At first it would be fun, but then I would imagine (being a Leo myself) that it would be annoying. Grant it, I’m speculating of course, who the hell knows.

And the whole I don’t need someone, I want someone thing… She only finally broke up with ARod because I think Ben finally agreed to do this relationship/PR thing. I do believe he reached out first, probably to congratulate her on the Superbowl, etc. Why does anyone think they released that denial after breaking up the first time. Because she didn’t have a backup. I think Ben backed out at first, leading JL to backtrack, and then she had to reconvince him. Once he finally got on board, she then told ARod to take a hike.

      • Darla says:

You should be a paperback writer.

      • Seraphina says:

I too am a Leo and completely get what you are saying. Probably why I like your alias 🙂

      • Carolnr says:

        @Kissmya**23
Ha ! Ha! My husband is a Leo. I am a Libra.
From what I read we are supposed to be a powerful match, we each bring out the best in each other& share a very similar outlook while constantly being fascinated by each other’s personality. Apparently, this is one of the most common matches & has soul-mate material. I literally just looked this up out of curiosity, lol!
Maybe Ben needs to find a Libra, lol!

      • KissMyA**23 says:

LOL… @ Carolnr – MATT DAMON is a Libra 🙂 hahahhaha! Sorry I had to! And I’m a Leo sun/Libra rising (no I don’t want to date Ben!) But I am honest to a fault almost, which I think Matt is way more honest than Ben.

        And @Darla I’m a screenwriter lol…

      • Carolnr says:

        @KISSMYA**23
        OMG! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

  12. Klu says:

This woman be over 50 and she just learning that and still doing nothing about it AND still can’t live without a man for 5 minutes. J.Lo ain’t learned a damn thing. GTFOH.

    • LaurenMichelle says:

J-Lo is blathering on and on about how she is ok on her own. Who Cares!
Ben & J-Lo are Not this generations Liz & Dick. Those two were crazy, mad in love with each other, had kids from previous relationships, and weren’t blabbing to the press constantly. Even though Liz & Dick were both alcoholics, they still had an air of mystery & elegance. Ben & J-Lo are overexposed & exhausting, dragging around their often unhappy children.

  13. FilmTurtle says:

This sentence gives me a headache: “In a PEOPLE exclusive preview of the star’s chat with Apple Music 1′s Ebro Darden about her new Rauw Alejandro collaboration ‘Cambia El Paso’ airing at 4:30 p.m. EST on Monday…”

They got it all in there, except for maybe the brands she was wearing. I know that’s celebrity culture now, but I find it moderately exhausting. I don’t whether it’s better that the advertising is so blatant now.

    • Golly Gee says:

This was my reaction too. And to have that lead the article when it’s the least interesting thing.

  14. Lonnie tinks says:

Man, I think she is so interesting. She seems like a narcissistic, who has codependency issues, and her inability to be alone, even for a millisecond seems pathological. I know a lot of women, myself included, who always needed to be in a codependent relationship when they were younger, but kind of matured out of that once they had kids, because, you know, kids take up a lot of time, energy, and love. I wonder why she can’t just spend time focusing on herself and her kids for a while, her hopping from guy to guy is going to mess up her kids and cause problems for them later in life.

  15. Jules says:

It seems she knows how pathetic this all looks and is trying to do damage control, lmao. Girl, being on your own is not immediately jumping back into an old relationship with a guy who cheated on you. with strippers. and dragging your kids into it.

    • lucy2 says:

That’s how I read it too. I don’t think she was expecting the “wow, JLo REALLY can’t be alone” reactions.

    • Agreatreckoning says:

Right! Saying she’s good on her own is different than saying she’s good being alone. She’s conflating-if I’m saying it right-those two are very different things. She IS good on her own getting work things done. JLo undeniably has a good work ethic. She just has never demonstrated that she’s okay with being alone/without a male romantic? relationship. I like her and as much as other people (and JLo) might like her with Ben…I do not. Her happiness with Ben will be similar to the Elizabeth Taylor/Richard Burton relationship.imo Passionate, dramatic and destructive-again.

  16. Golly Gee says:

“ And so she’s saying that she wanted to be alone and then Ben came along and wanted to be with her again and that was the universe telling her that “it’s okay to be alone…because another dude is on the way.”
IIRC, When she and Ben were falling apart, there was an article about how she went to some kind of fortuneteller who told her there was someone special on the horizon and that seemed to give her anticipation/comfort. So yeah, maybe she’s OK with being alone if she thinks/knows there’s someone just down the road.

  17. Kate says:

    I don’t *need* a cigarette I just *want* one

  18. Jaded says:

I came across a quote by Emily Dickinson…maybe J-Lo should read it:

“If fame belonged to me, I could not escape her; if she did not, the longest day would pass me on the chase, and the approbation of my dog would forsake me then. My barefoot rank is better.”

  19. what's inside says:

I think she and Kanye would make an adorable couple as soon as she burns through Ben. This woman cannot be alone, ever.

  20. nina says:

All I can say is poor Jennifer. These are the moments a woman needs her mom or sisters if she has any. Clearly her mom and her sister are awol. This whole situation is cringe worthy. If this was me, my mom would’ve sat me down and tried to talk some sense into me.
