Prince William & Kate did a ‘Generation Earthshot’ event with kids today

Our lovely theme-dresser is here! The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were in Kew Gardens today to promote Earthshot, William’s big keen environmental awards-scheme. The environment
 green technology
the color green. This was Kate’s train of thought. The coat is actually a repeat from Erdem. She paired the Erdem coat with a mis-matched green sweater and black trousers. Ten bucks says she wears green to the Earthshot Prize Awards ceremony too.

As for this event, William and Kate joined London Mayor Sadiq Khan, Olympian Helen Glover and others to meet with schoolchildren. They’re calling the kids “Generation Earthshot” which
 well
bless their hearts. The event was basically just Will and Kate telling the kids to think up some bold new ideas to save the planet.

I really wonder if William is keen about having Kate at his Earthshot events. On one hand, even William knows that his stuff will get more attention if Kate is there. On the other hand, I think he’s feeling more apathetic towards her as opposed to “hatred” or “dislike.” You know what I mean? Charles and Diana got to the point where they loathed doing events together. William doesn’t mind if Kate’s there because he just ignores her for the most part and doesn’t really give a crap.

PS
Imagine if Kensington Palace had announced this event in advance and they had proper photographers covering it. It makes me wonder how quickly this event was thrown together. Why is their vibe so half-assed? They truly have dozens of staffers. They could have thrown together an event at the last minute and still alerted photographers!!

She looks like a lepreCon, spelling intended

    • Noki says:

I wonder if she really gets into the festive Halloween spirit. She probably dresses up as the Queen đŸ€Ł

    • Myjobistoprincess says:

Kate cosplaying as the plant on top picture. She tries so hard to do the monochrome like Meg, but it just never works out well. WTH are those 2 greens combined together – who the H is styling her?

  2. Eenie Googles says:

    She looks nice in green.

    • Rapunzel says:

Eh…those aren’t the best shades of green and they don’t go together.

Source: I’m a green queen and 60% of my closet is green items.

      • SarahCS says:

I love the range of experts we have here in the comments (no snark, that’s a genuine, if lighthearted, view on this wonderful community).

I’m not big on greens for myself but I definitely wouldn’t put those together.

      • BeanieBean says:

And neither green is a green you usually see in the fall, those are springtime greens.
Also: I loved the irony of having an airliner fly overhead as they arrive. Look at these plants, they’ll save the planet! Never mind the jet fuel being used above us!

      • BothSidesNow says:

@ Rapinzel, this would be a perfect time of the year for Hunter green, but these greens are spring greens.

    • Merricat says:

      Matches her tight little heart.

      • BothSidesNow says:

        @ Merricatk don’t forget tiny
..

      • Lorelei says:

I’m not a huge fan of green, but I did think that Kate’s hair & makeup looked especially good today.

Judging from the photos I’ve seen, W&K were only around each other for the posed photos. They didn’t seem to interact at all the rest of the time. I am SO CURIOUS as to what’s really going on there

      • swirlmamad says:

Yes @Lorelei — from what I saw, there weren’t even any lovey-dovey looks from her end. It was like neither one existed to the other. She might still be feeling the sting from being iced at the Bond premiere…

  3. Rapunzel says:

I don’t see Will getting apathetic to Kate’s presence at his events. I see him as resigned to having her but showing nothing but contempt. Before, it looked like he was in the middle of an active tantrum to keep her away from him. Now, it looks like someone told him to stop pitching a fit and he’s still sulking about it.

I mean look at how far apart he keeps from her. He absolutely dislikes/hates her… or worse than that, considers her a nuisance to avoid. If he was apathetic, he’d be able to actually stand close to her. She obviously irrates the hell out of him and he wants her gone.

    • I just commented the same thing below! His body language makes it seem like he hates having to be near her.

    • Maria says:

It’s not even that, to me. It’s like she’s invisible to him. Creepy, honestly.

      • Rapunzel says:

Yes, like he has pointedly willed her away in his mind and she’s not even there. That’s the better description.

      • Becks1 says:

Yeah I’m with you Maria and Nic919. It’s like he has to pretend she’s not there in order to get through events with her. I do wonder why they do some of these random events together, is it because Kate has to come along if it involves kids?

      • MMadison says:

I watched all of the raw footage of this event. He barley looked at or acknowledged Keen in Green. At the very end of the event they stand for the photo with the children and the Ass William can’t focus enough to stand still and look at the camera (royal channel on youtube)….what an idiot!

    • Nic919 says:

He walks away from her as soon as he possibly can and never looks in her direction. It’s pretty obvious he can barely tolerate being in the same space as her. The video makes really shows this.

      • BeanieBean says:

She kinda does the same thing to the woman to her left. She had been talking with her, but as William moves to the right to speak with the greeters, Kate goes right on over without, it seems, even an ‘excuse me, nice talking with you’ to the woman.

      • Lady Digby says:

After the shouting Will seems to be an weapons grade Sulker which is just miserable for any partner to cope with especially at high profile events and yet no one in the tabs brings in a body language expert to comment? Because it is obvious Will is being rude and unprofessional and. disrespectful in public to his own wife!
He is a coward and a bully who has the gall to brief on to the tabs about his lofty pronouncements on others shortcomings without dealing with his own manifest flaws. Please put your own castle in order before you lay down the law for others.

      • Ginger says:

BeanieBean, she does just walk away from the women talking to her. That’s incredibly rude. She could have finished listening to her but just walks away while she was mid sentence.

    • Eurydice says:

It’s really difficult to not let your eyes stray even once toward the person next to you, especially if that person is talking to you. William must be using all of his conscious energy to ignore Kate – I wonder how he’s able to pay attention to anything else. It’s like “Sorry, can you repeat that? I was too busy ignoring my wife.”

      • Lady Digby says:

Painful admission :previous partner used to sulk with me and doubly rub it in by being extra animated and convivial to people we socialised with which was extra hurtful. When it gets that bad and you can’t discuss or talk things out then the relationship has no where to go. It is just not healthy for any couple and / or their children.

      • BothSidesNow says:

I am beginning to think that KKWeen doesn’t have an ounce in her back at all, in regards to Baldimort!!

@ Lady Digby, you are certainly right!!! Baldimort should be taking care of his own affairs instead of butting his nose into everyone else’s!!

I wonder if ’ole Chaz told him to suck it up, for the Monarchy as he waits with bated breathe until he is king?

    • Chrissy says:

      @Becks
I was wondering the same. If they did separately, there would be more events added to the Court Circular, that is, covering more ground. I agree that if kids are involved, Kate is expected to attend, even if Willnot can’t stand to be seen with her.

  4. Chaine says:

Love how Wills is doing the robot dance! Video is painful. Kate manages to look supremely uncomfortable just standing and listening to others talk.

  5. Same says:

Eh, copy, wiglet, Botox, boring , Rose who, posture , buttons

  6. dawnchild says:

Even commenting on these bores and their boring fashion has become boring. Maybe they called the photographers and no one came lol! The 70+ and 90+ look way more interesting/fashionable than this snoozefest couple

  7. Their chemistry is so rigid. It makes me think of that scene in Mona Lisa Smile, when Kirsten Dunst breaks down about how her husband can’t stand her.

    • booboocita says:

They ARE the “Mona Lisa Smile” couple. Giant society wedding, bride thinks her life will be perfect from that point on, husband becomes quickly indifferent, bride’s mom insists that the marriage remain intact, bride despairs but puts on a happy face … Good grief. I hadn’t realized the similarities until you pointed them out.

      • Indeed. Hopefully she’ll pull a move like Kirsten did in the movie and leave his sorry bum. Something tells me that won’t happen until the entire royal family is disbanded and she has no reason to stay without the prospect of one day being wife of King Willy

    • dido says:

This actually makes me want to watch Mona Lisa Smile now, hehe.

  8. Maggie says:

Did buttons gift the kids with any of her honey?

  9. Steph says:

    Of course they are maskless..

  10. tamsin says:

I think it’s a good idea to do events with children. They should get science teachers involved, and try to make Earthshot projects part of the curriculum. That would help people to know about and remember what real environmentalists are doing. Where is that early years thinking? Kate should have been involved or shown an interest in the impact of the pandemic on early years, not shelved her “work” to just clap for health workers and first responders- i.e. to do nothing. It did nothing to help alleviate their stress. Mind you, being cheer leaders and keeping up morale is part of their job, and it is important. If they acknowledge that that is their only job, that would be good. They shouldn’t pretend to be capable of more.

    • P says:

You know they scour the inter webs and chats
…why you giving them ideas lol
Let them crash and burn on their own

      • Lady D says:

This site has had some incredible ideas for Kate over the past 5-6 years. If Seward the sewer is reading this site as we believe, why hasn’t she passed some of these ideas on to Kate? Kate would be indebted to her, which allows her more access and Kate could learn how to dress too.

      • Jais says:

When I first read about this, I thought this was an actual earthshot program for kids, but reading the comments, it seems that’s not the case? I’m kind of confused.
        Edit:
…And I just scrolled down to the comments below

  11. Eurydice says:

Their vibe is half-assed because they are half-assed. Is “Generation Earthshot” a real thing? It’s not mentioned on the Earthshot website. It’s not a bad concept and it goes along with what Charles was saying about the younger generation’s concerns. But it needs to be developed as a plan, with intention and scope – then they can announce it and have events. Showing up at Kew Gardens to look at a couple of potted plants is not just half-assed, but whole-assed.

    • Amy Too says:

“Generation Earthshot” seems really presumptuous. First of all, “Generation (Anything)” usually denotes a generation that is heavily influenced by the (Thing). Earthshot has been around for a year or so and hasn’t even successfully handed out its first awards. We don’t know if it’s successful or impactful, we don’t know if the projects they’ll be awarding are actually super innovative and will be effective when scaled up using the prize money. Just the idea that he’s claiming an entire generation’s work, anxiety, and interest for the environment for Earthshot specifically seems like an over reach.

But calling this particular visit a “Generation Earthshot” engagement is presumptuous in smaller, specific way, too. These kids are doing their own thing in the greenhouse for their own reasons, participating in whatever program or studies they’re participating in, and Will and Kate come in and decide that this is all related to Earthshot, these kids must be inspired by Earthshot, this project must be tied to Earthshot, when I highly doubt that Earthshot is the one running the program, paying for the program, designing the curriculum or projects, etc. This is a pre-existing thing that he just came in and claimed for Earthshot. It’s kind of gross, but it’s also very on brand for the Cambridges: go see what people are actually *doing* in the field they claim to care about, pretend that it’s happening because of them or has anything to do with them, be photographed near it, and take credit for it.

      • Christine says:

        Exactly this.

      • Lorelei says:

@AmyToo, all such good points, as usual!!

It seems like William and Kate are determined to reinvent the wheel, while the Sussexes aren’t too proud to announce that they’re “partnering with” or “joining the efforts” of existing programs and organizations. Harry and Meghan are thoughtful about it, and each partnership reflects their values, but they know that there are already experts out there doing the work.

William and Kate seem like they’re above that sort of thing, and insist on creating their own enormous initiatives. Which are not needed and generally not useful because they’re mostly serving as vanity projects for W&K. So they flit around to visits like this, but none of them seem to have any real purpose. (Because we know the photo ops ARE the purpose as far as they’re concerned.)

  12. Woke says:

Honestly I think they’ve been good with the PR around the awards. The idea in itself is pretty good. I just get the feelings it’s an idea a decade or even 5 years late. Also the prize isn’t that substantial 50 millions to share is not enough for a scientific project.

  13. Layla says:

Oh look, a short coat just reaching the knees. How original

    • HA, first thing that stood out to me too, very deja vu! It almost made me wonder if part of the reason that she chose green was because it’s the opposite of red on the color wheel, but she doesn’t strike me as that clever.

  14. Amy Bee says:

I lol’ed when I saw Kate was wearing green. She’s really loves her theme dressing. I don’t think William minds Kate being at his engagements because he knows she will do the heavy lifting.

  15. TeamMeg says:

I’d love to give the Cambridges props for at least doing SOMETHING good-ish and meaningful, right? Weak as it may be. Even though the name “Earthshot” is so, SO bad. But… W&C have not said anything nice about H&M in so long. How about congratulating your brother and sister-in-law on their exciting and successful New York City trip? How about showing some pride and support for their humanitarian efforts, instead of just copying them through jealous gritted teeth? I’m not holding my breath for that day to come, but until it does I can’t stand these two.

    • Amy Bee says:

Why would you want them to say anything nice about Harry and Meghan? Fact is they hate them, especially Meghan and they got what they wanted which was Harry and Meghan out of the way.

      • Lady Digby says:

Yes but Kate never thought after dispatching his own brother and SIL that Will would turn on her because like, MOM and I are totally indispensable, right?

  16. Lady Esther says:

Boring but at least it’s professional (has she finally ditched the jeggings for good? YAY!). She needs to emulate the Queen and start wearing brooches: they would at least lend some interest to her boring outfits and have everyone trying to identify it, leading to lots of column inches for the RR, etc. The Queen must have thousands of them. Bring back the brooch!

  17. AmelieOriginal says:

They’re doing this to promote the first Earthshot ceremony on October 17, this Sunday. Kate will be there, it’s already been announced. And yeah, I won’t be surprised if she wears a green dress. She likes to theme dress so much.

    • Harper says:

As soon as the first Earthshot awards ceremony is over Sunday night, and by Monday afternoon, when the peasants failed to click on the tabloid articles about its very famous winners, Burger King will be OVER it and move on to something else. He is banking on this awards ceremony being a big thing and when it doesn’t create a tornado of excitement in the world, he’ll be back to smearing Meghan again.

  18. Becks1 says:

Both coat and sweater are nice, but the colors don’t go together. A white or cream sweater would have worked much better, but less theming. What’s a keen kate to do?

it would be nice if William and Kate could list things THEY do to help the environment – like Charles did in the BBC interview – eating less meat and dairy, converting his cars to electric, etc. But they do nothing to help the environment or to prevent climate change, its all just performative for them.

    • Amy Bee says:

@Becks: I agree the coat and the sweater don’t go together. Interesting decision to wear the Erdem piece in this way. Last time she wore it, she wore it as a coat dress. No one can convince me otherwise that she doesn’t study Meghan’s outfits.

      • P says:

She totally is. I mean when was the last time we saw her in a coat dress. Those were her wardrobe staples.

    • Cessily says:

She may have been going for monochromatic on short notice.. I am sure her struggle was real.đŸ€ŁđŸ˜‚

  19. The Hench says:

Good lord. Did somebody put Sadiq Khan in a hot wash? I had no idea he was so short.

Um. Yep, that’s all I’ve got.

  20. Roo says:

At least she’s wearing pants that look decent instead of those blasted leggings! I think she looks nice, but I can’t imagine either of them impressed the kids or Mayor Khan.

    • Layla says:

@roo the mayor did openly acknowledge and sympathise with the treatment Meghan received from the family so there’s that

  21. TeamAwesome says:

I like the greens and that the is the first time I have ever seen her wear something that I would wear. I must need a lie down and a temperature check.

  22. Rapunzel says:

Lol. The Fail with the headline about this: “It’s easy being green.”

Subtle dig at Kate’s jealousy of Meg?

  23. Here4tea says:

Imagine having to take time out of your working -day to prop up these two eejits. Blah blah blah, lots of hand gestures and f*ck all of any substance. Apparently “royal schedules are organised 6 months in advance,” – this looks last minute, cobbled together and definitely jumping on to someone else’s (Sadiq Khan’s?) project. Interesting if Fredo is indifferent to, as opposed to loathing, Keen,
I think her chances of being queen consort are diminishing exponentially. To be indifferent to one’s spouse is a sign a marriage is in terminal decline.

  24. Myjobistoprincess says:

Why does it always feel like their events go in one ear and out the other the second I hear about them? It just has no effect like the new projects of HM or let’s say, Angelina with her bees. it’s just a bunch of mishmash of time fillers for their calendar and it feels like it. When Angelina did her Vogue interview of what’s in her bag – it stayed in my mind longer than this event will. I blame lack of influence and lack of star power. sorry to be blunt.

    • Lorelei says:

      There’s no continuity
they just show up for random visits at places that their aides think will provide some good photo ops. And W&K add one more event to their totals in the CC. It’s as if each engagement is done in a vacuum, with nothing really tying them all together in any meaningful way.

  25. Here4tea says:

    • Here4tea says:

If things were different, Harry and Madame Duchess would have turned up ready to get their hands dirty and engage with the kids. They would also arrange some sort follow up event (probably at the instigation of the kids). Sadly, we’re left with the dregs. This is perfunctory at best, and it shows.

      • Eurydice says:

H&M would have also brought gifts of some sort – like gardening kits with packages of heirloom seeds, or something.

  26. Betsy says:

When you consider that they could push for things like wider hedgerows in farms and for native plants in interstitial space and get all sorts of cute press about saving the native flora and fauna of the UK, here they just “well gee you kids come up with something to save the earth!” Or a campaign to turn turf over to native perennials. Or conduct a contest to monitor and then reduce one’s trips in cars and planes (and private helicopters and private planes
).

Perennial plants bury carbon, and the more native perennial plants we plant in our countries, the more carbon we can sequester. This is not beyond our skills and it will help. But please, Keens, just keep grinning and doing inane things.

  27. Kay says:

It was Sadiq Khan who said he was sad that Megan left and couldn’t understand how someone could talk about a child’s skins collar. Last time they were at an event with Khan they cut him off from their IG – it was just William.

  28. PNWroyalwatcher says:

    @The Hench. LOL

Hmmm, trousers, attempt at color blocking? More single white femaling by Kate. Even the earrings are Meghan-esque.

I do feel sorry for her and the time she has to be around William.

    • Beach Dreams says:

Why? She’s right where she wants to be. She may be miserable but she clearly doesn’t want to leave him or the RF. It ain’t the 80s anymore so it’s not like Kate’s completely trapped or has no options. She and her mother also continue to roll out PR pieces about how essential she is for the monarchy. People who feel bad for her (in general, not you specifically) need to understand that this is exactly what she wanted. She knew what Will was like long before they finally tied the knot. The infamous Tatler piece made her out to be manipulative and quite comfortable being as ruthless as the family she married into, so…two peas in a pod and all that.

  29. Amy Too says:

That picture in the Twitter trio of Kate baring her teeth to the children is weird. She’s entering the room with her mouth wide open. She’s still walking in, I doubt they’ve been introduced yet, no one could have possible said anything funny, and yet she’s already showing her tonsils. It must be automatic for her now, instinctual. I wonder if she can *not* do it. Teens seem like the last people I would greet with a wide open mouthed hyena grin, that seems like it would be more appropriate for greeting a kindergarten class.

    • TabithaD says:

It is so weird and she does it all the time now. It looks particularly odd if you see it on video – because every so often she drops it and goes back to her normal expression. Then starts it up again. It’s obviously for the cameras, to try to give the impression she’s very engaged and having fun. Trouble is, it never seems in sync with the expressions of those around her.
She must get terrible jaw ache from holding that weird expression.

  30. Red Weather Tiger says:

So, if I have this straight, Baldimort’s entire contribution to this Earthshot thing is asking for other people to come up with ideas? Do I have that right?

Just spitballing here, but couldn’t HE come up with an idea? Join in with the poors to save the planet? Harry and Meghan have ideas. They bring some content to the conversation. Like the Keenbridges’ endless listening and learning, here again, we have them glomming off other people’s work and calling it their own.

    They are husks.

    • nina says:

No, his ideas man left for the U.S. and he’s not coming back. I bet one of the reasons he hates Meghan and wanted her gone because she questioned why he was allowed to take credit for Harry’s work.

  31. olliesmom says:

Yeah, they are alllllll about saving the Earth. How many cars did they bring with them to this event with their security, etc.?

I also wanted to add that it takes a lot of works and concentration to ignore someone like that.

Kate wants to be Megan so bad it must hurt. If she dresses like her then she can have her life and her marriage (where her husband actually likes her).

  32. MerryGirl says:

Long coat, inner jersey, flowing pants…check. Somebody’s been watching Madame Duchess’ NYC wardrobe. Copy Kate at her finest.

  33. Nyro says:

You can’t just name a generation. It’s like they think they’re Pepsi or something. God, I can’t wait to see this whole thing flop.😂

    • nina says:

Why not. They see nothing wrong with what they doing. They used to name countries with total disregard for what the people living there, called it.

  34. nina says:

That is clearly such an ill prepared project. It looks like something that was hastily put together because they were told that PWT and Keen needed some kids to take part so they hastily had to get a group of kids together and thats the best the school could come up with. Some of the kids in the video even have their backpacks with them. smdh

  35. Tessa says:

The media coverage focused on Kate wearing that green outfit twice. Shows how she’s perceived even by media as a Lightweight.
