Haley Bennett wore a bonkers custom Elena Dawson to the ‘Cyrano’ premiere

Kelvin Harrison Jr., Haley Bennett and Peter Dinklage

The big London premiere for Cyrano was held last night in London. In case you haven’t seen the trailer, I’m including it below. It’s directed by Joe Wright, who loves a costume drama with corseted heroines. It’s looks like a mostly-straight adaption of Cyrano de Bergerac, the popular 19th century play about a dude with a huge nose and a beautiful soul who tries to help a young, good-looking guy (Christian) win the heart of Roxane, the woman both Cyrano and Christian love. In this latest adaptation, they chose (good-looking) Peter Dinklage as Cyrano, Haley Bennett as Roxane and Kelvin Harrison Jr. as Christian.

I wanted to cover the premiere because I love Haley’s dress and how bonkers it is. I like Haley a lot as an actress, and I’ve always wanted her to have a bigger career. Sometimes, I wonder if the fact that she looks like Jennifer Lawrence’s shorter sister has hampered her career. But Haley is fun and talented and I love that she went all-out with this crazy dress. The dress is a custom piece from Elena Dawson. It’s perfect.

I kind of want to watch Roxane, the Steve Martin movie again. I haven’t seen that since I was a kid. There are so many Cyrano variations, but this might be the first time they’ve cast Cyrano as a little person. It’s going to be tough because Peter is actually VERY attractive.

I kinda love it. It is over the top but it works.

  2. Lila says:

She was adorable in Music and Lyrics. Don’t know her from much of anything else, but I hope it does well for her. The red hair looks good, too.

The trailer for this looks fantastic.

And I want to rewatch Martin’s Roxanne. That film was delightful.

I did an 80s movie binge with my teenager during the pandemic, and we watched Roxanne. It ages pretty well, and I had forgotten how clever the dialog was. (I was in college when it came out — so old enough to get all of the jokes the first time around.) And Steve Martin still totally owns it.

Love love love this dress and the trailer!

The inside-out hoop skirt! Handy garment for social distancing enforcement, right? Love the color, too.

Lol, I love her rose trellis dress! Cyrano is a great play, and a great character, and Peter Dinklage will play the hell out of it.

I saw the play on broadway many years ago, Jennifer Garner played Roxanne. The play bugged me, particularly the part where, with her husband dead, Roxanne goes to live in a nunnery. That’s it, that’s her life options? Married or nun? And then just when she understands who she was really in love with all this time, Cyrano dies?

    Okay girl.

Cyrano is my favourite play! So so beautiful. There is a french adaptation with terrible Gerard Depardieu. I haven’t seen any other films, maybe I should!

I love this. that is a statement dress and she pulls it off. And I definitely thought she was Jennifer Lawrence for a minute there as I was scrolling, lol.

Dinklage played Cyrano in the recent Broadway (off Broadway?) version of this, Jasmine Cephas jones was Roxane.

I love Haley Bennett. First saw her in a bad remake of The Magnificent Seven. Thought she was a more beautiful version of Jennifer Lawrence. Beautiful red hair, voluptuous figure like she’s from another era and this dress and look totally fits her. The trailer is sumptuous, and the music is amazing. Will be a definite movie in the theater for me. Also, Steve Martin’s movie is still one of my favorite movies from the 80’s.

I’ve always liked Haley Bennett. She was the best part of The Girl on the Train. I think she, Lawrence and Cate Blanchett need to do a film about dysfunctional sisters!

Don’t rewatch Roxanne. I did about a month ago and its so cringy now. It does not hold up.

Reminds me of Nikki Minaj’s dress in the Barbie Tingz video.

It’s giving me evil queen from a fairytale vibe and I love it.
