I was a little surprised when I saw the photos of Selena Gomez at Britney Spears’ small June wedding. I didn’t realize they were friends, or friendly enough for Selena to get an invite to what, but all accounts, was a very intimate wedding. But stranger celebrity friendships have happened. Somewhat randomly, Britney posted a gushing Instagram post about Selena over the weekend, noting Selena’s well wishes on her wedding day, calling Selena a special person, and showing appreciation for Selena’s activism on mental health. It was basically a Selena Gomez Appreciation Post and Selena commented on it, gushing about Britney right back.

In a post to Instagram over the weekend, the “…Baby One More Time” singer, 40, gave a shout out to Gomez, 29, who watched her marry Sam Asghari last month in Los Angeles.
“She came to my wedding,” Spears began the caption, posting a picture of the Only Murders in the Building star in a khaki-colored top with a multicolored graffiti covered skirt. From there, Spears tagged Drew Barrymore and Paris Hilton, calling the trio “the three most beautiful women in Hollywood.” Barrymore, 47, and Hilton, 41, also attended the June 9 nuptials.
Continuing the caption and referencing Gomez, the newlywed wrote, “I was SO HAPPY !!! She told me “I just want you to be happy” three times…”
“I appreciate ALL the mental health speeches she does for our generation … Two hour specials with representatives … You’re such a special person and I had to share this picture … I thought it would make her happy,” Spears continued.
Commenting below, Gomez wrote that she was “speechless” to read the pop star’s tribute.
“Britney-you are so kind and have the most beautiful soul. I am beyond lucky to know you. You deserve all the happiness in the world!💕,” the Rare Beauty founder wrote.
During a June 16 appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, Gomez spoke with the host about a star-studded photo from the nuptials of herself with the bride, Barrymore, Madonna, Hilton and Donatella Versace.
“I am really happy for her. It was beautiful,” Gomez said of Spears, revealing that “finger foods” were served during the reception.
When I clicked through the embedded Instagram post in the People article, the link was broken. And a scan of Britney’s Instagram shows it’s gone. I wonder why Britney deleted it. No shade, but her Instagram use is endearingly random. It reminds me of the way my mom or aunt might use Instagram — the random reposts, inspirational quotes, the photos that are just slightly out of focus, or at a weird angle (Sarah Michelle Gellar also has this IG vibe). It’s charmingly uncurated and unselfconscious. All this to say, there’s probably no particular reason Britney deleted the photo. Maybe she decided the image was out of place or it was something better texted. I’m sure the sweet sentiment is still there. Though I was initially surprised that she and Selena were close, I do think it’s nice and it does make sense. They’ve both been though a lot in their own ways and have come out on the other side and seem to be doing really well now.

Maybe it was a copyrighted photo so she had to delete it. It always makes me giggle when celebs post Getty images or something of themselves not realizing you have to pay for those photos.

I feel somewhat protective of them both, like an auntie lol. The 2011 pic is sweet.
I think she deleted it because there were comments about her mom wishing her well and people couldn’t figure out if she was being happy about Selena and her mom, shady to her mom in comparing her to Selena, or shady to both her mom and Selena.
I took it as truly positive to Selena and shady to her mom (basically her mom calls the paps to wish her the best but Selena does it genuinely). but most of Britney’s posts are… scattered, and can be kind of hard to follow lol.
Paris Hilton went to the wedding too? BritBrit spilled about Paris in her recorded testimony in her guardianship hearing.
She said she thought no one would believe her story, because people like Paris Hilton make up abuse stories, like being abused at a boarding school. She said and I quote “I’m sorry. I didn’t believe a word of it “.
BritBrit tells no lies! She also said at that hearing that Hannah Montana was stoned out of her mind at some award show up on the podium and that she’s under guardianship too. I love that testimony. She didn’t know it was being recorded.
I’m pretty sure the post was shading Selena as she was comparing her to her mom. It sounds like Selena was uninvited and was giving unsolicited advice to Britney about her life. Britney also used a super unflattering pic of Selena. I think Selena didn’t catch the sarcasm.

Why would Britney invite Selena to her wedding, and then wish her a happy birthday just to shade her? Get real.
The post said that she didn’t even know Selena was coming to her wedding. It definitely seemed like shade.
Britney deleted the photo, as she has done with all similar posts, because it was referencing her mother who, like the rest of her family, has threatened defamation against Britney for posting similar posts about them. The same goes for the posts Britney has made about her father, who has now decided to use Britney’s Instagram posts as a part of litigation to defend himself against the accusations that he was involved in an illegal & abusive conservatorship to extort money from Britney’s estate – which we all know to be true.
Long story short, Britney posts something seemingly innocent and then somewhere in the post she drags her mother, father, sister, brother and management who were all involved in the conspiracy to conserve and steal from Britney, Britney has been deleting those posts shortly after posting. This is nothing new. She’s been doing it since the conservatorship has been terminated.
She needs to stop so she doesn’t get herself tied into a lawsuit with her family.
She needs to find a healthy safe way to vent or write a tell all book.
Soo…interesting side note here. Selena Gomez is managed by TriStar entertainment, which for those of you who don’t know, is Lou Taylor—a leader in the conservatorship with Jamie Spears. Coincidence?
And she is bff with Swift, and I knew Swift is feuding with another star who most likely rescued Spears from the conservatorship.
If I have to guess, it most look like a subtle warning to Gormez that Spears got her receipt. And if Gormez’s friends do not cease and desist to drag out their feud with another star, Spears’s gonna serve her receipt.
It’s possible she had to remove it since it was a copyrighted image. I always laugh when celebrities post Getty images or other photos of themselves without knowing that you have to pay for them.
