Credibly accused rapist T.J. Miller has some thoughts on Ryan Reynolds

2017 was the year when TJ Miller went from “annoying douche-bro actor/comedian on the come-up” to “outed serial predator and all-around piece of sh-t.” That year was supposed to be Miller’s big coming out as the next Seth Rogen or something – he had multiple projects coming out on TV and film, he was part of the Deadpool franchise, he was working with top directors, everything was happening for this white mediocrity. Then the Daily Beast published a piece about how he brutally raped and assaulted a woman in college, and the dominoes just kept falling after that. He has a history of harassing women, female comics and trans people. He assaulted coworkers too. I genuinely thought we had, as a society, put TJ Miller on a proverbial ice floe and we would never have to deal with him again. Not so much. He was on The Adam Carolla Show and he decided to say some sh-t about Ryan Reynolds.

In an interview on “The Adam Carolla Show,” the 41-year-old actor explained, “I love him as a comedian, but I think after he got super, super famous from the first Deadpool, then he — yeah, things kinda changed.”

Miller went on to say the two had a contentious moment on set, where Reynolds took riffing a little too far, and was seemingly disparaging of Miller. “We had a really weird moment — really weird moment on Deadpool, where he said ‘Let’s do one more take.’ And then as the character, he was, like, horrifically mean to me. But to me. As if … I’m Weasel,. He was like, ‘You know what’s great about you, Weasel? You’re not the star … but you do just enough exposition that it’s funny, and then we can leave and get back to the real movie.'”

He said the moment on set was incredibly uncomfortable — not just for him but for the entire crew. “Everybody was like, ‘Why is Ryan doing this?'” he told the media personality. Miller also suggested the interaction went deeper than just an onscreen dynamic. “That’s exactly why he said that,” he deadpanned. “Because I’m not funnier than he is at all, right? And I haven’t been in more movies than him.”

“Would I work with him again? No. I would not work with him again,” he said, adding, “I sorta wish him well because he’s so good at Deadpool, and I think it’s weird that he hates me.”

The “Silicon Valley” actor went on to share his opinions of the Canadian actor, calling him “really nice” but also saying, “I think he’s kinda an insecure dude.”

While he mentioned only meeting his co-stars equally famous other half once, Miller had something to note of Reynolds’ relationship with wife Blake Lively.

“I think both of them, their public image is very well curated,” he said of the pair, who have been married for 10 years and are expecting their fourth child together. ‘I don’t wish them any ill-will. I just think he doesn’t like me and I thought it was weird how he expressed that.” Earlier in the interview, Miller went so far as to say “I think it’s weird that he hates me.”

[From EW & Yahoo]

So… Miller is complaining that Ryan Reynolds, in character as Deadpool, riffed some off-script insults at Miller’s character Weasel. Miller is terribly offended by that? Okay. I suspect Ryan Reynolds won’t work with TJ Miller again because Miller was credibly accused of rape, assault and sexual harassment of multiple women, not because of whatever immature boy-beef is playing out in Miller’s head. (Now all that being said, do I also think that Ryan Reynolds is likely kind of an a–hole? Sure. He seems tightly wound and I have no problems believing he’s a d-bag to many people. But if he behaved this way to TJ Miller, I’m on Ryan’s side.)

Heads up to all of the industry magazines covering these Miller quotes: stop saying Miller is “controversial.” He wasn’t thrown out of Hollywood because he’s “controversial.” He was thrown out of Hollywood because he hurt women and colleagues. And he trashed everyone on his way out the door.

I thought we had sent him and Adam Corolla out to the great pacific garbage patch.

  2. mia girl says:

I have zero doubt that T.J. Miller is insufferable and a straight up annoying and disruptive presence on any set.

  3. Shai says:

Adam Corolla is still a thing?

    • whatWHAT? says:

well, if TJ Miller is indicative of the caliber of guest he can pull, I’d say…no, he’s not still a thing.

      😉

PS, to add, Miller is pulling a “you can’t fire me I quit” kind of thing here. he says he wouldn’t work with Reynolds again but he WAS NOT ASKED back for Deadpool 3, specifically because of the allegations against him.

      • Shai says:

That’s what I thought, he’s saying he won’t work with Ryan again when it’s pretty obvious he wasn’t asked to come back.

  4. ThisWitchIsntDead says:

Lol at the great pacific garbage patch. It is where they both belong. TJ is insufferable, and the only thing this interview did is make me like Ryan Reynolds. It is a rare moment when we get to hear about a man who skillfully dismantles his colleague, the well-known sexual predator. Thank you, Ryan. Two sentences is all it took to keep TJ awake at night.

  5. Jessamine says:

Getting slagged by TJ Miller for hating TJ Miller is the kind of reputation-armor-boosting money can’t buy. Ryan’s publicist is doing a happy dance this morning.

Side note: Didn’t Adam Corolla have some gross toxis masculinity show with Jimmy Kimmel back in the day? I don’t really know/remember much else about him but WOW his and Jimmy’s career trajectories have been different.

    • Amanda says:

Urgh, The Man Show…embarrassed I even know that. You know, the one that shows girls jumping on trampolines in slow motion?

      • Jessamine says:

That literally all I remember about it, those jumping girls. I was at this unformed teenage stage where I desperately wanted to be objectified and even then scrolling past that show I was like “WTF”

    • Lizzie Bathory says:

Yes–it was the Man Show & it was just as gross as the title suggests. Jimmy was able to evolve his persona from that; Adam…didn’t. I didn’t even know he was still working.

  6. Indica says:

Isn’t he still in trouble for an Amtrak stunt he pulled? Like under indictment or something?
…one google later, yeah, he made a fake bomb threat. I’m sure he thought he was being funny. Wonder what happened with that, it was in 2018.

  7. Moxylady says:

Ryan talks about having anxiety a lot. He talked about it before a lot of people did and it really helped me.
And I really really hope this doesn’t start a Ryan is a d-bag thing. Because I just don’t want to live through that. He seems great. Let him be great. Just let one of them not suck.
(Besides Keanu. One besides Keanu. Oh! And Hugh Hackman!!!!)

    • CourtneyB says:

You should look up what Chris Evans has said about dealing with anxiety too. He’s so open about it and it’s why I’ll defend him against comments he’s some dumb meathead.

  8. MissMarirose says:

I’m sure Ryan Reynolds doesn’t think about him at all.

  9. Moxylady says:

    EDIT
I’m not saying I want to die if people don’t like Ryan! I’m just saying UGH don’t ruin another one.
That rapist doesn’t deserve acknowledgement from me.

  10. AlishaB says:

Deadpool finished filming what, 5 years ago now? And Ryan has been living rent-free in TJ’s head this whole time? Hilarious!

  11. KBeth says:

    He is repulsive.

  12. Kate says:

I don’t get how that riffing was about TJ personally. It’s been a while since I’ve seen Deadpool but doesn’t Deadpool break the 4th wall in it and kind of nod to this being a movie/talk to the audience? It just sounds like he was trying out an insult in character and TJ took it as a personal insult. But way to suggest Ryan is insecure while airing out your hurt feelings on a talk show…

  13. Emmi says:

This is like me saying I wouldn’t work with Cher (except of course I would because Cher is an icon, not a criminal). But b*tch, who’s asking????

  14. MC2 says:

We can surmise that TJ caught wind Ryan wouldn’t work with him again, due to TJ’s abhorrent behaviors, & so he’s doing what these guys do when their overinflated egos get punctured- hurting the person that they perceive hurt them first.

    • CourtneyB says:

Oh he didn’t need to catch wind. Deadpool 3, now in the MCU, is in development and nowhere is there mention ofMiller who was in the first 2. Deadpool was already big and now being in the MCU proper, as opposed to Fox, will just be even bigger and I hope Miller is dying inside over it. Especially since the MCU has made, and is making, tv series out of so many side characters—Falcon and winter soldier (who will now each lead a movie), Wanda and vision, Agatha harkness, echo, Jim Rhodes (though armor wars is now going to be a movie), nick fury, etc. No chance of a Weasel tv series.

      • Miss Owlsyn says:

I could have sworn that it was reported months ago that Reynolds himself said TJ Miller wouldn’t be in Deadpool 3. Of course if I search it now, I just get articles about this current stuff. I could be wrong, does anyone else remember?

  15. Jennifer says:

    God, what an asshole.

He was probably making fun of you in character, but also, you’re an evil asshole rapist who is still walking free.

  16. BonnieT says:

Sometimes difficult people are mean to other difficult, terrible people and it’s satisfying because neither one will give a flip if they piss each other off *shrugs

  17. Kirsten says:

I have to imagine that if that really happened, Miller had been doing something that was causing a problem and Reynolds finally got fed up. Miller doesn’t strike me as someone who can recognize when his behavior is actually the issue.

I also don’t think I’ve ever heard a bad thing about RR.

  18. Glamarazzi says:

All I heard was “I used to know Ryan Reynolds, people! I used to be somebody!”

  19. Lee says:

He’s an ass but I agree with the part about Ryan and his wife’s marriage as ‘curated’. Those two are obsessed with their public image.
