Enquirer: Rosie O’Donnell’s estranged wife thinks Rosie is a “monster”

Rosie O’Donnell confirmed her relationship trouble with Kelli Carpenter in an interview with USA Today a few weeks ago. Rosie didn’t get into specifics, but she made it sound like she and Kelli had been having problems for a while. A week later, Rosie went on Howard Stern’s show and got a bit more specific, saying she and Kelli had “come to a point where we are seeing [if] what will make everyone happiest is maybe to not live together, but continue to parent.” Rosie also told Howard: “Kelli and I have a lot of issues and sex wasn’t one of them.” Ugh. Later, the Enquirer reported that Rosie feared her own mental health issues would not look good in a prospective custody battle with Kelli, should it come to that. Apparently, Rosie may fear losing their kids.

Now the Enquirer is reporting Kelli’s take on the situation, through unnamed sources quoting Kelli. It could totally be crap – Kelli doesn’t really strike me as this vicious. I tend to think Kelli doesn’t want her side of the story out there – she seems like a very private person, but whatever.

Summing up her years with ex-wife ROSIE O’DONNELL – and revealing why there’s NO chance they’ll recon-smile – KELLI CARPENTER told pals the comedienne’s “a monster to live with and, other than being a great mom, has no positive aspects!”

Despite their vow to stay “friendly” in public, sources say, Kelli admits in private that “DONALD TRUMP was right – Rosie destroys everything in her life.”

Said a close friend: “Kelli thinks Rosie’s a great parent, but a lousy mate. She’s a monster to live with. While she is kind and patient with their four children, she’s snappish, condescending and constantly argumentative with Kelli.”

Having a large family didn’t help. “Rosie’s focus turned from Kelli to their four kids…and took her eye off the ball in their relationship. Finally seeing the writing on the wall, Kelli opted out. Rosie was heartbroken, but accepted it,” said the friend.

“She was a big enough woman – no pun intended – to realize much of it was her fault.”

[From the National Enquirer]

I’ll buy that Rosie is a “monster” to live with, just because I could easily imagine how she would be a pain in the ass. The part of the story that might lend credence to these quotes being legit is the acknowledgement that Rosie is a good mom, so maybe there’s something there. But I just think the Donald Trump comment was for tabloid value. But maybe that’s because I can’t see anyone willfully siding with Trump.

Rosie O’Donnell and Kelli Carpenter are seen at the PS 122 Spring Gala 2008 in New York City on May 15, 2008 and the ‘Sherie Rene Scott: You May Now Worship Me’ benefit concert at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York on March 31, 2008. Credit for both: WENN.

I will side with Donald Trump on the Rosie front any day.

She is a nasty, bitter person. I am glad she is a patient and fine mother, but I think she is a horrible person who would do well to astep up her therapy sessions.

Also, the fact that she lacks an upper lip creeps me out. The way she smiles is just odd. Like someone who is forcing a smile but cannot stand to actually give a genuine smile.

  2. Lantana says:

Ugh. Why does she always look like she’s going to bite someone? Is that really how she smiles? I will bet she’s not only a pain in the ass to live with, she’s probably scathingly cruel. I’d say good riddance.

  3. Tess says:

    Ugh.

    Those hands.

  4. TwinkleToes says:

I really hope Rosie gets help for the drinking problem. She’s only a monster when she drinks otherwise she is a really good, warm person. Heart of gold.

  5. Toe says:

I cant imagine myself sleeping with her, not even as a man.

  6. Just a Poster says:

I agree, Rosie looks like a biter to me.

  7. lastwordlinda says:

Rosie is just plain gross in every way.

  8. Tia C says:

Why is everyone hatin on Rosie so much? We all have our issues… I’ve been sorry to hear that she and Kelli are having trouble, or are over. They seemed like a happy, solid couple.

Having said that, I do have to agree with Firestarter about her smile, or the lack thereof – I have always noticed that she has this tight, clenched smile, as though it pains her to smile. It is odd.

  9. Pont Neuf says:

People are so disgustingly misogynistic it’s embarrassing.

OK, Rosie expresses herself in a rather willful manner and is opinionated. If she were a man, everybody would praise her for having a strong sense of morality and an solid character. However, since she is a “fat, mean lesbian”, she is obnoxious and deserves to be hated.

Well, she has a right to express herself as she wishes and, however irritating she may be sometimes, she is almost always right.

The really sad part is that, if her physique were in concordance with what is considered attractive, people would look for ways to dismiss her as a stupid bimbo who speaks about thinks she ignores (à la Elisabeth Hasselbeck).

Rosie seems to be quite intelligent and a bit odd, but the fact that she doesn’t mince words and doesn’t try to be inoffensive and meek speaks volumes about the strength of her character. She is a genuine person and the majority of people cannot forgive her for that.

  10. Tazina says:

I cannot imagine how difficult it must have been to live with Rosie. Her personality is over-powering. They made a family and then broke it…too bad for the kids.
(btw: it’s LOSE the kids, not LOOSE).

  11. snowball says:

There isn’t a snowball’s (ha) chance in hell I’m going to look up the specifics right now, but maybe someone else will remember this –

When Rosie had that talk show, her employees HATED her. She’d send people home crying, had quite a large number of people quit on her. It all sort of exploded when the show was ending and she did one of those teary, “I don’t mean to be so nasty, it was because I have a lot of issues with my mom dying.”

Wasn’t she the one who told one of her employees that the reason she had breast cancer (the employee) was because she was a liar?

Pont Neuf, I can’t recall a time when I sat there and thought that Rosie was particularly smart or that she was getting crap because she was a woman or gay. She’s obnoxious and mean, no matter what her gender or sexual orientation.

  12. Kelly says:

I seem to remember when she still had her show she was deemed “The Queen of Nice”. I think she may be bipolar but I’ll take her anyday over brainless Elisabeth Hasselwhatever.

  13. crash2GO2 says:

These photos creep me out. She almost looks like she is strangling Kelli in the last one. And yes, I have long wondered why she can’t ever really let herself smile. Her eyes are always flat and dead. Chilling, really. I’m rooting for her though. Alcohol can be a terrible thing for some people.

  14. NunyaBiz says:

    Pont Neuf:
You go on to bitch about misogynistic attitudes yet do the same dayum thing regarding Elizabeth Hassleback your point is now moot..

  15. Firestarter says:

Pont Neuf- If Rosie looked like a cross between Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie, I would still think of her as a hateful, nasty person. Looks have nothing to do with my opinion of her. I liked her when she was on Star Search YEARS ago. She was funny and was not full of poison. The last several years she has been down right nasty about anything and everything, and the fact that her marriage has broken up speaks volumes about her attitude and treatment of others.

You know another word and opinion that is over used lately: Misogynist.

If someone comments on anything, it always goes back to them being a misogynist or we live in a misogynistic society. Perhaps with some issues that may ring true, but with most it is just a word bandied about because something has to be to blame and not the person in question.

  16. Just a Poster says:

Looks like someone learned a new word today.

  17. Oh My says:

@snowball (#11) I don’t think it was her staff from the show that hated her, I think it was the staff at her magazine that did. It seems as though, when she left her show and could not control the magazine, she became increasingly self-destructive.

  18. filthycute says:

Remember when Rosie first became well-known as Madonna’s fat wise-cracking sidekick?

  19. moo says:

all I read was the headline, because I really don’t care about Rosie, but my first reaction was: DUH!

  20. Goddess711 says:

Rosie’s got CrazyEyes. She’s never really been “normal” since having free reign on her talk show to say whatever the hell she feels about anything/everything, all her *issues* have come out. I think Kelli’s going to get sole/full time custody because Rosie can’t control her mouth.

  21. Moops says:

A body language expert could have a field-day with that second picture: Their “embrace” looks so uncomfortable, like Rosie is trying to possessively pull Kelli toward her. It almost looks like she’s trying to put her in a head-lock! And Kelli is standing abnormally upright, seemingly indifferent to Rosie’s presence and touch. There isn’t the slightest hint of movement toward her partner – she is all alone in the picture. So does that mean that Kelli is the one who is over Rosie and wants to forget all about her, and Rosie is crazy-possessive “oh-you’re-not-going-anywhere” toward Kelli?

  22. Rosanna says:

I never could stand Rosie, and have no difficulty believing this report. I am however sorry for the kids.

  23. Jag says:

Yep, Rosie’s the one who said that to the woman with breast cancer. And I do believe that both staffs hated her. It doesn’t matter that she’s gay and a woman – I would dislike her no matter what, just like I don’t like Alec Baldwin.

It absolutely amazes me that she’d be a good parent, as awful as she comes off in interviews and whatnot. “Queen of Nice” was like calling a fat man “Slim.”

  24. lanette says:

I think Rosie is disgusting and yeah i side with Donald Trump. People seem to always forget that SHE actually started the feud w/Donald Trump. If she disliked him she should not have even attended his wedding.
She is miserable. to read about her sex life made me throw in my mouth already…….

  25. jbird says:

Rosie IS a monster, ugly on the inside and out. Another person who should have never been allowed to adopt children!!! Why do they let people with mental illness adopt children, it is so sad, I am afraid it could make people not choose adotion for their unwanted pregnancis after seeing the kind of people allowed to adopt!!!

  26. NFLer says:

It’s as I always suspected. What’s with the marks on Rosie’s hand? Can someone get this woman an eyeliner, some tweezers and some damn lipstick? Yikes au naturale is not the look for Rosie!
    SCARY!
