The trailer for ‘You’ season 4 part 2 reveals a major character’s return (spoilers)

Spoilers for You season 4
The first half of the fourth season of You has been pretty different from the previous three seasons so far. There’s less sex and the object of Joe’s obsession is not a woman, but a serial killer that’s obsessed with Joe. I mean, of course there is a woman, but she’s secondary and Joe’s narration even says that he can’t be into her because he’s already in a relationship with the killer. Anyway, the killer was revealed in the mid-season finale and now the trailer for the back half of the season has dropped. It’s showing a lot of mayhem and a surprise character from Joe’s past in the final moments.

The trailer for the final episodes of You season four just debuted online and there’s a major shocker!

Here’s a synopsis of season four: After his previous life went up in flames, Joe Goldberg has fled to Europe to escape his “messy” past, adopt a new identity, and, of course, to pursue true love. But Joe soon finds himself in the strange new role of reluctant detective as he discovers he may not be the only killer in London. Now, his future depends on identifying and stopping whoever’s targeting his new friend group of uber-wealthy socialites…

The video teases the return of Victoria Pedretti as Love Quinn. Fans of the show will remember that Love was injected with poison at the end of season three, and she’s also the estranged wife of Joe (Penn Badgley). The new season continues on March 9, 2023.

[From Just Jared]

The most interesting part of the trailer is not all the chaos that seems to ensue after the killer reveals himself, but the last few seconds which indicate that Love seems to be alive. Yes, the wife that Joe (of course) killed and framed for his death turns up in a glass box in the last few seconds of the trailer while Joe looks on in fear and disbelief. Um, what? It’s not a flashback because Love is holding a book written by one of the new characters. This show occasionally indulges in fantasies that seem real for a few minutes, but they’re usually the sex kind and not ones where Joe is afraid, so it’s not a dream sequence. So is Love still alive? It would track with the whole PI and secret account thing. And this show has done it before with Joe sloppily thinking he’d killed Candace when he actually hadn’t. So are Love and Rhys going to band together to f-ck things up for Joe and make him the most beleaguered murderer of all? Hope so.

I’m still pretty convinced this is some sort of dream sequence. It seems to be shot in the same bluish colors as when Joe was in Paris with Marienne. I feel like he would have said something in his inner monologue during the first part of season 4 if Love’s body was missing, right? I enjoy the Joe/Love dynamic though, so whatever gets her back onscreen is good with me!

So far this season wasn’t much better than season 3. Joe is a psychopath, whether he realizes it or not. Penn Badgley is trying to shape Joe Goldberg in this season but it doesn’t mesh with how he was in the first three seasons.

I always think Season 3 is the weakest- and then i go back and watch it, and maybe it was less memorable- but it actually is pretty good- i had just forgotten so much stuff.
Mackenzie Astin as the anti-vaxxer, Theo, the blind librarian, and how awful Sherry and Cary are- and how bizarre it is that i was happy they lived through it.
Because every season has someone that deep down -we are glad to see dead.
For me in season 3, it was Maryanne’s ex.

But i am loving the season 4 professor persona he has taken on. Very much himself- but, he is good at it. And i am thoroughly enjoying it. There are so many people in the posh friend group, i had to watch several times to get them all straight- which was great- b/c it is a good re-watch.

I love this show. When i saw Love in the teaser- i just assumed she is a figment of his imagination, when he was first with Love, he saw Beck quite a bit, she talked to him several times- all as a figment of his imagination.
Though you can’t put anything past this show- and the Quinns are batcrap crazy.

I like that netflix split up the season, but i am chomping at the bit for part 2.
And curious to know if Roald and Kate and the rest are wondering about who the killer is- who had access to the country home, and how he got Joe and Roald imprisoned.
I know Joe can’t tell Kate who the killer is b/c of what the killer knows about Joe- but, wouldn’t that be a good way to save her life.

I really hope she isn’t back for real.
Her storyline was done for me

  5. Michele says:

I try not to read spoilers, but I hope Love is not alive. Also, I’m in love with Penn Badgley’s nose. It’s a work of art.

  6. GoodbyeRomeo says:

I did not love the seasons with LOVE, but I LOVE Joe/Dan more than I ever expected to.

He and Rhys have the best chemistry apart from Beck.

I almost thought, oh were we heading down a Boys Love route. Rhys and Joe are the team I never knew I needed.

Note-I do not read Boys Love but perhaps I have been in Asia too long.

  7. This sequence still strongly suggests to me that it is some form of dream. It appears to have been photographed in the same bluish tones as when Joe and Marienne were in Paris. I have a feeling that if Love’s body had been missing for the first half of season 4, he would have stated something in his internal monologue. Yet since I like the Joe/Love relationship, I don’t mind doing everything to get her back on screen.
