Clint Eastwood is GQ’s Man of the Year, blasts “teenage twits”

eastwoodgq09

I think people think Clint Eastwood is at death’s door or something, because everyone seems to be falling all over themselves to recognize him and his enormous talent. Which is right no – Clint is awesome, and he deserves every award you can throw at him. But I have a feeling people are just trying to get in there before he kicks the bucket. In my mind, though, Clint has still got a good decade or two. He’s 79 years old – and his mother is still around.

Anyway, Clint is GQ’s Man of the Year, and they have him on the cover (GQ honored other people too – here’s the list). I love Clint’s face. There is no bigger rebuke to the Botoxed, waxy, severe, gross, plastic faces of modern Hollywood than Clint’s grizzled visage. Sigh. I love him. In the cover interview, Clint even blasts “teenage twits” and says we’re “juvenile” as a nation. Clint is about to shank us.

Clint Eastwood is better known for his fists than his fashion sense, but that didn’t stop GQ magazine from naming him a man of the year.

Eastwood joins Barack Obama, Tom Brady, the three stars of “The Hangover” and “Star Trek” actor Chris Pine on five special covers for the December issue (www.gq.com), which hits newsstands Tuesday.

Eastwood talks politics, love, religion, diet and women in a wide-ranging interview with deputy editor Michael Hainey, who calls the 79-year-old the “patron saint of late bloomers.”

Eastwood gained fame for his acting in the spaghetti Westerns of the 1960s, but won his first Oscar (for directing) for “Unforgiven” at age 62.

His new movie, “Invictus,” is the true story of Nelson Mandela (Morgan Freeman) and the mostly white South African rugby team that helped usher the country out of apartheid.

“The world needs this kind of story nowadays,” Eastwood said. “It’s just…everybody’s so screwed up. It seems like our country’s in kind of a morbid mood, because of the recession or whatever.”

We’re “becoming more juvenile as a nation,” he said. “The guys who won World War II and that whole generation have disappeared, and now we have a bunch of teenage twits.”

Eastwood meditates twice a day, avoids saturated fats and does 30 minutes on the elliptical machine each morning.

He used to “find meaning” in chasing girls, but says he’s now happily monogamous.”I never thought I’d get there, but I did. It feels good.”

[From the NY Daily News]

In another piece of Clint news, last week he received the French Legion of Honor, presented to him by President Sarko himself. It’s basically France’s lifetime achievement award, and Clint received it for his body of work as an actor, director, composer and producer. Clint actually looked pleased and honored to receive the award – I figured he would scoff at something like that, but he looks genuinely happy. He told the press, “This is a wonderful honor. It is just a great pleasure for me. I really love France. I love movies, and I love the appreciation that the French people have for movies.” He also promised to learn French for the next time he came to France, which is cute. Fun fact: Clint is fluent in Italian, probably from all of the films he shot in Italy in the sixties. Good stuff. I wonder what honor is coming for Clint next? Perhaps a Nobel prize, or something. Does the Nobel committee give prizes for being awesome?

Clint rocks, and while I’m always cautious of talking about ‘the good old days,’ I think he may have a point.

  2. Praise St. Angie! says:

Love this man, and totally agree about his “grizzled visage”.

When I was younger, I remember thinking how hot he was (“for an old guy”) and then when I saw him in “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly” when I was in HS, I was floored at how hot he was when he was in his prime. HOOOO-WEEE, he was somethin’!

  3. Jen says:

    Clint rocks!
I can’t be more articulate than that. I just melt when I see him. Love him – love his work both acting and directing.
Great to see two posts being about himself and Bacall – they can still show the ‘twits’ how it’s done.

  4. Firestarter says:

    I love Clint Eastwood!

  5. Jillian says:

    Clint, I totally agree!

  6. lilred says:

Young Hollywood could certainly learn something from this man.

  7. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

    Love him. He’s incredibly talented.

I love that he’s “grizzled.” He doesn’t look all stretched and burnt and they didn’t insist on photoshopping him all to hell, they seem to revel in his wizened look.

I wish women were “allowed” to be grizzled too.

    *sigh*

  8. GatsbyGal says:

Um, wait, wikipedia says his mother (Margaret Ruth Eastwood) died in 2006.

  9. apsutter says:

I love clint!!! My dad has always had a thing for westerns so whenever they were on he’d get so excited and tell me all about it and make me watch too! I also love love love the fact that he’s an amazing director and all-around movie maker now!! Looking back at his youth who would have thought the man in all the spaghetti westerns would be one of the most popular and celebrated film makers now-adays!

  10. Mark says:

    He just sounds OLD.
During the second world war they were just as immature, he just has forgotten with age.
Too stay young you have to accept CHANGE not rail against it.
He is as out of touch as his movies are.

  11. BitterBetty says:

    I’d tap that.

  12. NunyaBiz says:

The man truly is a rarity he has aged well, both mentally and physically. I enjoy his commentary albeit I may not always agree with him. He seems thoughtful whenever he makes a comment. I think he will be around for some time and he deserves all the accolades he receives.

  13. viper says:

he looks like he’s planning on beating teh shit out of somebody in the room lol

  14. Megan says:

I must be an old guy trapped in a young girls body cuz I agree w/ everything he said.

  15. Beth says:

This cover is so funny. I have never seen somebody so pissed off doing a shoot.

  16. Green Is Good says:

Tell it like it is, Clint!

  17. Huma says:

You damn kids, get off my lawn.

    Wait.

Didn’t I just make a movie about that?

    🙂

    Clint’s such a cutie.

  18. viper says:

    Guess he forgot the hippies.

  19. Raven says:

Wonder when he picked up his fluency in Italian. When he was working with Sergio Leone, he’s said that he knew very little Italian.

I love his healthy lifestyle and who he has become. He was a real jerk in his younger years–until he won his first Oscar. He’s turned it all around, though, and will be remembered well. And it’s nice that his image as a tough guy enables him to get away with some tough comments–people should listen to what he’s saying. Oh, and he’s still really hot!

  20. clintfan says:

I will add my AMEN to the Clint fans who have already posted here. THIS is a MAN who doesnt have to pander or kiss up to anyone…except perhaps his wife. He’s the antithesis of todays fame chasers. Im sure he’d have some choice words for the Jon and Kate Gosselin’s of today, not to mention stellar parents like the Lohan’s and daddy Cyrus. Im also sure he doesnt need to surround himself with syncophants to feed his insecure ego. Woosh should stop now…

  21. lucy2 says:

All you have to do is look at a gossip site or tabloid to see he’s right – Paris, Lindsay, Britney, Miley, Kardashians, the Hill people, etc. Those are the ones somehow clawing their way to the top of the pop culture heap. Most of them have no talent or value to society.

  22. guilty pleasures says:

Can’t argue with the accolades. I had to laugh when he was on some award show as the presenter, and had to award Brokeback Mountain with best picture. His look of stunned awe, and slight stutter when he read the winner, was priceless, and not in a good way.
I appreciated the movie, and am a huge supporter of all things surrounding gay rights, but poor Clint looked like he could not get his head around rough tough cowboys smoochin’ each other!

  23. TwinkleToes says:

Loved Million Dollar Baby, didn’t care for Gran Torino ( the kid was a sucky actor, especially in the end) and Changeling went on for way too long and included dialogue from the 80’s and on, not the 30’s. One woman in the movie after electro shock therapy says “Pissed off”. Angelina Jolie didn’t display any 1930’s nuance except for the clothes. For me, Clint gets it almost right. She sucked in that film.

  24. Elle says:

“We’re “becoming more juvenile as a nation,” he said. “The guys who won World War II and that whole generation have disappeared, and now we have a bunch of teenage twits.””

Truer words have not been spoken. He is amazingly talented and sharper than many 40 yr olds I know. Way to go, Clint!

  25. vlad469 says:

Gatsby, you can’t rely on Wikipedia. It’s not a news source, it’s editable by any twit with a computer. It’s nice for quick fact-checking, but hardly reliable.

  26. Samantha says:

My father was obsessed with John Wayne and Clint Eastwood, so I’ve seen all of his earlier stuff at least 15 times. He has always seemed so angry though for a man who meditates regularly. I also imagine him to be the type to complain about everything (which this article reiterates for me), the type of man whom if you passed him on the street you would hear “I remember when coke cost a nickel. I used to have to walk uphill to school, through snow, both ways! I had to carve my own shoes out of wood. Kids have it too easy these days, dagnabit!”

  27. Persistent Cat says:

I’m glad his face went back to normal. He had a face lift but now it’s fallen and it looks 1,000 times better.

He’s a fox for an old man.

  28. tooey says:

I was a punk-rockin’ 17-year old whose hero was Sid Vicious. But I still kept a picture of Clint Eastwood on my wall that I clipped out of Cosmo. It was from his spaghetti western era and I thought he was totally hot. Still do…

  29. GatsbyGal says:

Vlad469 – Well IMDB says the same thing, that she passed away Feb. 7th, 2006 at the age of 96. There’s even an LA Times article online about her passing, though the website is currently down for maintenence.

  30. Popcorny says:

    Pffft, Clint is a wuss.
Oh sure, he looks the part, can cast a mean stare and hiss words like a deflating tire but he doesn’t deserve half the accolades he’s gotten.
So now he’s the sagest thing since Confucius because he’s saying something every old fart says when they get past 40ish … “kids today … rahh rahh rahh”). So bad-ass!
Now he’s a hair shy of 80 and just finding the practice of monogamy … ooh, that’s sooo bad-ass!
But then again, getting up out of a chair at his age is …. bad-ass!

  31. Jazz says:

    God bless you Clint!

  32. viper says:

    @ popcorny LMFAO!

you kicked ass with that one lol

  33. RHONYC says:

i will continue to maintain the following:

at 79 years old, clint can still ‘get it’!

i have had a thing for him since ‘the good, the bad & the ugly’.

i still think he’s hot, my boyfriend even knows it too.

clint can still get it. period.

    grrr.

  34. RHONYC says:

    @ Popcorny

    bite your tongue!

    lol 🙂
