Keith Urban wants Sunday Rose to be a singer: “she’s got pipes”

Little Sunday Rose takes after her dad, doesn’t she? Even her brown hair looks a little flat-ironed. So, like father, like daughter. This is what Keith Urban wants too – he told Us Weekly that he thinks Sunday will follow in his footsteps and have a musical career. Although I guess we could say that Nicole Kidman has a musical career too – she’s on her second musical and she did that Robbie Williams single, right? While I don’t think there’s anything wrong with a devoted dad talking about his pie-in-the-sky dreams for his little 16-month-old daughter, the quote “she’s got some pipes” struck me as weird. But I’ve always thought Keith is a strange duck anyway, so whatever:

Country crooner Keith Urban is hoping that when it comes to music, it will be like father, like daughter.

The Australian performer, 42, is rooting for his little girl, Sunday Rose, to follow in his musical footsteps.

“She’s got some pipes,” Urban says of his 16-month-old daughter with Nine star Nicole Kidman. “I think she sounds quite musical. I sit at the piano with her in the morning and we mash the keys together.”

Urban’s wife and daughter, born in July 2008, were top of mind at Sunday’s American Music Awards.

“I’ve never won anything with Nic sitting in the audience before,” Urban told reporters backstage after his win for Favorite Male Country Artist — which he dedicated to Kidman and Sunday. “It was beautiful to have [Nicole] there tonight. She’s such a huge inspiration for everything I do.”

The new dad — who calls fatherhood “pure bliss” — says he’s excited for Sunday to spend her first Christmas in her parents’ native Australia.

Has Urban thought of New Year’s resolutions yet?

“To keep your family together and to just keep choosing love,” he says.

[From Us Weekly]

Just keep choosing love? Not to be a pessimist during this holiday season, but those kinds of sentiments grate on my last bitter, bitchy nerve. I always consider myself a pretty positive person, too. I’m happy, I’m in a good place, but I don’t describe myself or my life in terms like “just keep choosing love” or “pure bliss”. Maybe they caught Keith in a weird moment. Maybe he was just talking out of his ass. Maybe Nicole’s weird boobs and face were distracting him. Cute baby, though. I want to pinch her little grumpy cheeks!

I always get a ‘little lost boy’ from him. I do get the ‘little lost girl’ vibe from Nicole. So I guess they are in the ‘ little lost club’ these two.

I am far from angry or bitter but I cannot stand gushy syrupy people the same way I can’t stand whiny ones. I am also suspicious of people who use superlatives. They never mean what they say, they are just trying to convince themselves and the world. I do believe that these two have a kind of love.

  2. Firestarter says:

Eh, I can’t hate on him for what he said. I mean if he wants to sound super sugary, then I’m okay with it.

Better than the crap that pours out of the mouth of a Gosselin, a Lohan or any of those types of people.

  3. snowball says:

He sounds sweet to me. Nothing wrong with being sappy and positive. Nicole has said similar things, about making choices based on keeping healthy relationships.

I don’t get what the problem is with saying Sunday has good pipes? I took that as saying she’s pretty loud and vocal. It sounds cute that they sit at the piano together and play around.

  4. TwinkleToes says:

Keith, we all know your wife is a phony liar. So you too are probably living some sort of lie.

  5. Whitey Fisk says:

What toddler doesn’t have “pipes”? Keith should sit next to me on an airplane sometime. I’m usually surrounded by little vocal prodigies.

  6. QB says:

Maybe he should wait until she can form a complete sentence before saying his daughters sounds musical , since all babies sound the same.

Is it me or every interview Keith or Nicole sound so rehearsed when they talk about their relationship, but then again in writting you can’t really tell.

  7. Ellen Smith says:

Sunday won’t be selling any albums based on her looks.

  8. snowball says:

    Ellen, that was evil. Nasty.

Sunday is adorable – love her blue eyes. Attack Nicole or Keith, but really, do you have to go after a baby?

  9. Victoria says:

Oh THANK YOU Ellen for saying that! That girl is definitly an example of what her mother looked like pre knife and botox injections!

  10. Ellen Smith says:

I am entitled to say that Sunday is an average looking child, at best. I wish people would stop insisting that every celebrity’s child is gorgeous, when in fact most of them are merely normal looking. Nicole was gorgeous in Days of Thunder (pre-Botox, etc.) She looks hard and unnatural now.

  11. sharylmj says:

Keith talks like a recovering addict.. he’s just happy to be living and he is in a good place and grateful for what he has.. GO KEITH AND NICOLE..
their baby is beautiful and healthy and has great big blue eyes. Toddlers can show musical skills at an early age.. it’s in her genes and not all babies and toddlers sound the same

  12. QB says:

He sounds to me like one of those parents that think their kid is ” GIFTED” , is great the he think his kid is special but she probably is not.

Most toddler sound the same to me, they blab pretty much about nothing and repeat the same word over and over. She is a one year old , I doubt she can say more than a few understandable words.

Any can sound musical when they are humming.

  13. Firestarter says:

Good Grief, picking on children and their looks. There is nothing wrong with the way that child looks, and Kidman was beautiful before she messed with the “tox” and she continues to be attractive in a plastic sort of way now. Her daughter will no doubt be quite attractive when she is older, as she is very pretty now.

Attack adults but please save the snide child comments for Perez’ site. That stuff is totally accepted over there.

  14. v says:

ooohhh don’t attack the children! come on people, the only ones getting all uppity about saying that kid is kinda fug, are the adults on this site reading the comments. that baby will never know what was said about her goofy face. and i mean goofy.

  15. Firestarter says:

    v- mature attitude that is.

  16. Kevin says:

I didn’t want to say it, but you know me, I will anyway. That child has a slow look in her eyes. Might just be the pictures. Maybe Nicole’s ex can hook her baby up with some of those Xenu super vitamins.

  17. Ellen Smith says:

It isn’t called “Celebitchy” for nothing – everyone is fair game.

  18. v says:

yeah, i’m immature because i disagree with you.

  19. Firestarter says:

v- No you are immature because you think that making fun of children is AOK,as long as they don’t read about it.

Furthermore, I am certain that those of you with children would not find the humor in it if we were giving critiques of your own spawn. Oh, I forget because celebrities are in the spotlight and make themselves targets. Well their children have no say in it, just as your children don’t. I can see that everyone would be fine with me or anyone else saying your kids looked slow, ugly, hit with the ugly stick. I bet that would go over really well!

Yeah, that is very mature. You don;t have to agree with me on anything, but perhaps you should take a look in your own back yard and see how you would feel having people pass judgement on the looks of your children now, or when you have them!

Even at dlisted, people do lay off of making fun of children and that site is far more humor filled than this one. Everyone is fair game, but they do call a hault at children.
Peace out! Keep on with your big bad selves making fun of kids. Hope you are as understanding when your own children become the butt of jokes.

  20. anonymous says:

Jesus, I can’t stand it when people pick on babies/children.
Even if you do think the kid is ugly, keep it to yourself. Do you really lead such a horrible, twisted life, that the only pleasure you get is from ripping on a child??
Get a fucking grip. Celebs are fair game because they are adults that make the choice to be in the spotlight. Their children are not similarly inclined – they are famous whether they like it or not. It’s just in poor taste to call someone’s child ugly even if they are UGLY (not saying Sunday, is, she looks quite cute to me)…this world is degenerating into a bunch of self involved, cynical, and tactless idiots.

  21. cuppycake says:

She’s a sweet looking little kid. I don’t see what you are all talking about.

Although, funny story; When my son was born, he sort of looked like E.T. Five years later, you can’t even link his baby pictures to him.

  22. Tazina says:

Amazing how some people focus so much on an individual’s “looks”….who cares? This shows a high degree of shallowness and immaturity. Why is it so important to you? It’s like these people making the nasty comments can’t think beyond the outside surface of a person….very lame and superficial…..giving a good indication of the type of person they are.

  23. Corina says:

The thing is that this kid probably will see such comments at some point…I’m sure she will google her parents and herself when she’s older, because kids are naturally curious. And she might not think a thing of it, but she might be at an impressionable age where all of the media is essentially telling her she’s ugly if she isn’t perfect…and then she might see some mean comments about how she was ugly even as a baby.

I’m all for giving Nicole crap because she made herself unattractive, but maybe we could be somewhat nice people and not insult those who weren’t blessed with perfect looks? Also that kid is friggen adorable!

I’m pretty sure “set of pipes” was referring to her ability to scream or yell or cry or any of the other obnoxiously loud stuff kids do that make you think, damn, how does one tiny thing make that much noise?

  24. barneslr says:

All these ugly insults about a BABY tell me much more about the people posting than it does about the baby herself.

    Pitiful.

  25. ganjagirl says:

    ugly as a mud fence

  26. v says:

If you take what people say on internet message boards THAT seriously, then I think it is YOU who needs to get a grip. Expressing one’s opinion, whether you like that expression or not, is what this place is for. These sites are created and maintained for people like you and me to oggle celebrities and their offspring, and occasionally say what we think about said celebrities AND offspring. I’d love to see the people who like to have a fit over what others say react to real life situations. do you stomp your feet and squeal “I don’t like what you said!”? That’s how it looks in my head anyway. Quite amusing. Lighten up folks, it’s only the internet.
