Princess Charlene wore Van Cleef & Arpels sapphires to the Red Cross Ball

Here are some photos of Princess Charlene at this weekend’s Monaco Red Cross Ball. Prince Albert has long been a major patron of the Red Cross, and Monaco’s Red Cross Ball is one of the biggest events of the social season in the principality. It would have been weird if Princess Charlene did not attend the event, so she dusted herself off and grabbed a bunch of diamonds and sapphires and actually looked happy-ish. The Mail pointed out that this is the first time Charlene has been seen in a month… but that’s kind of normal for her? She disappears for weeks or months at a time consistently.

I haven’t found an ID on Charlene’s dress, but she loves Akris and this has an Akris vibe to it, so maybe that’s it. People did ID her jewelry – she’s wearing Van Cleef & Arpels earrings, dangling diamonds-and-sapphires. Very pretty and I don’t remember seeing those on her before. Maybe they’re new? A special gift from Albert for sticking around and doing her “royal duty”? I was prepared for Charlene to look miserable, but she really doesn’t? Whatever went down in her marriage, she seems at peace at the moment. Her short hair looks great these days too.

Albert and Charlene were joined by Camille Gottlieb, Princess Stephanie’s daughter and Albert’s niece. Albert seems to be a big fan of Camille, she’s often Charlene’s stand-in at smaller events in Monaco.

PS… If you’d like to read a bonkers story about Monaco and Albert’s financial secrets, go here to this archived story in the Times of London. I found it confusing, but then I don’t really understand how Monaco functions as a government and I was shocked that they actually have a court system? Anyway, someone is making a big deal about “corruption” and Albert’s financial shenanigans.

I’m glad to see her looking genuinely well.

Although it is absolutely not on her to tell us, I am so so curious to know what went down when she was in South Africa. I wonder if we’ll ever get the full story on that?

Yes – first thing I noticed was her eyes looked at the very least content. She was not miserable. Maybe whatever her situation is has improved for her now.

    • Bread and Circuses says:

Probably not, and maybe it’s for the best. My personal theory is drug addiction, and they finally got her clean.

I think Charlene has “resting sad face”, but you can also tell that there’s something more, like she’s always working through some sort of emotional stress (completely understandable, going by what we know of her marriage and apparent physical health issues). So it’s good to see her looking noticeably happier and more at ease.

I’m not crazy about her dress, though. It doesn’t have enough shape to it, and with her being so slim, it just kinda hangs off of her like a mannequin.

    • MaryContrary says:

She was so sickly thin for a while there, and now she looks like she’s gained weight but isn’t quite sure how to dress.

She looks great from the neck up. I really like her new hair. The dress does her no favors. A different neckline would have helped.

I think this is the happiest she’s looked? Least sad? Her hair looks good, but I was wondering if it needs to be a little bigger. A different neckline would balance it out better , you’re right.

Charlene looks so much healthier so that’s good. Camille looks just like her mother.

  5. Tamra says:

    She has the saddest eyes.

I thought it might be Terrence Bray (South African designer she supports) see 2022 Monte-Carlo Fashion Week Awards. But it’s not. I’d DIE if she wore a Thebe Magugu 💫 But I suppose white ladies of a certain age wear the same white designer that made their wedding dress (in PC case, Terrence Bray made her South African wedding dress)

This dress is giving me the same energy as a frock Sophie wore late last year (?) same unflattering neckline & sparkly champagne colour, that does nothing for a woman’s upper body / decolletage or pale skin

Her small smile does appear to reach her eyes though 💙

Her face looks painful. I love the earrings.

It looks like she has new cheek implants … her eyes look a little embedded where they never did before.

Dark hair really suits her, and also makes her look even younger. That colour and longer she’d be quite something.
