People: RIP to QEII, she was a ‘real supporter’ of Prince William’s ‘work’

People Magazine has two covers this week, a tribute to Jimmy Buffett and a tribute to QEII. RIP QEII, you would have loved Margaritaville. People’s cover story about QEII is all about how the royals are still in mourning (they are not) and still dealing with the steady decrease in public support since the wildly popular QEII passed away. Personally, the Windsors haven’t helped their case at all by largely disappearing for the past two months, but whatever. Some highlights from this cover story:

Desperate for relevancy: While Queen Elizabeth was a steady presence in the lives of Britains throughout her 70-year reign, younger generations are skeptical of the monarchy — and King Charles and the royals are working to ensure that “the Firm” — as Queen Elizabeth’s late husband, Prince Philip, called the family — stays relevant in the U.K. and in the Commonwealth realms around the world, including Canada and Australia, where Charles is head of state. “That will be a challenge,” says Robert Hardman, royal biographer and author of Queen of Our Times.

Little hiccups: Moreover, fissures within the family came when Prince Harry and Meghan Markle stepped back from their royal roles in 2020. In matters both personal and professional, “there is an enormous loss,” says a source close to the royal household, “as [the Queen] played a very important part in all of their lives. But I’m impressed at how smoothly things are moving forward given all the little hiccups that there are in the background.”

Wait, would Harry have been able to stop Charles assuming the crown?? Despite the continued rift between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and the rest of the royal family, King Charles rose to the royal role he waited for as the longest-serving heir apparent to the throne. While keeping many traditions, he also has put his own spin on the position, notably taking a less formal approach to engagements than his late mother. “His ability to engage with everybody is a real plus. It has proven he is the right man for the right moment,” says royals author Ingrid Seward. A palace source adds, “He’s always very warm with people and is curious about their lives.”

Will & Kate: The Prince and Princess of Wales have also stepped up to promote their key causes while also balancing life as parents to Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. Getting that right is key and “something they think about every day,” adds a source close to the family. In doing so, they honor the late Queen. “The prince was incredibly close to his grandmother,” the source continues. “She was such a big part of his life and a real supporter of his work, and I’m sure he and the princess miss her presence.”

[From People]

LOL at “She was such a big part of his life and a real supporter of his work” – it feels like William is going to make a speech about how QEII really respected Earthshot, so much more than she respected Invictus Games. RIP to QEII, you would have loved Homewards, William’s busywork homelessness scheme which we haven’t heard about in months. What is that part about Charles rising to the throne “despite the continued rift between the Duke and Duchess of Sussex.” Like, Charles’s accession was never in doubt? It’s not like Harry would have invaded London and declared himself king? Good lord.

There’s also a concerted, multi-year effort to publicly minimize how damaging the Sussexes/Sussexit has been to the monarchy. That’s coming from Buckingham Palace – Charles and his advisors are trying to pretend like the Sussex estrangement is just a minor blip which will be forgotten at some point. They really don’t get it.

  1. LOL!!! What work would that be? Hating his brother? Hating his brothers wife? Leaking crap abusive stories to the press? Taking helicopter rides to his favorite rose? Tell me what work? Anything? I thought not.

  2. seaflower says:

What work? W hardly did anything during QE2 final 10 years.

    • Lily says:

What work he just talks about the great things he would do but nothing comes out of it, he talks about ending homelessness months ago but still nothing, Kate spend millions and 20 years on her early year project and nothing both of them are lazy entitled people who can’t do a thing only shaking hands and fake smiling that’s it

  3. Steph says:

I would be terrified of I was that little girl. He looks especially PWT there.

  4. Harla A Brazen Hussy says:

“QEII was a real supporter of trying to get William to work”, there People mag I fixed it for you:)

  5. Chloe says:

“…. notably taking a less formal approach to engagements than his late mother. “His ability to engage with everybody is a real plus. It has proven he is the right man for the right moment”

I must have missed this because he is preforming engagements exactly like his mother. In fact, i don’t think the way engagements are set up have changed much in the last century.

And a support of williams work? I doubt she even knew what exactly he did if reports of her health in the last year are to be believed.

    • Teagirl says:

Ability to engage with everybody? Are we talking about the same Prince William? He seems physically and socially awkward, and many times has made made what I’m sure he thinks are very witty remarks, but which are rude, thoughtless, and often denigrate the other person(s).
      Not a people person.

      • Chloe says:

The part about the engagements was about Charles.

      • Teagirl says:

Ah yes, you’re right .. poor reading of the post!

      • CheekyMonkey says:

Ah yes, Prince Charles’ famous ability to engage everyone…like that guard Biden was trying to chat to during his visit? Charles was on the verge of a meltdown because if Biden talked to him any longer, he’d be forced to join in and pretend he cares. Charles hates commoners and has no ability to show any empathy for their situations or curiosity about their lives.

      • Where'sMyTiara says:

@CheekyMonkey I am convinced to this day that Biden was well aware, and that he deliberately did that to wind Chucky up. Love that for Chucky.

  6. Laura D says:

In all fairness QEII probably supported William’s projects far more than he did! While he was riding around on his environmental helicopters (/s). She told us in one of her speeches how proud she was proud of the environmental causes championed by William and Charles. It still didn’t get the lazy bugger to do more than was absolutely necessary though. He didn’t even come out and support his great friend David Attenborough. When the BBC were forced to only show the “missing” sixth episode of the Wild Isles documentary only on iPlayer he kept shtum (and so did KCIII for that matter.) Grrrrrrrrr

  7. Chantal says:

People mag still trying it’s hand at comedy. This article was definitely funny. C-Rex and the rest in the dinosaur institution might be hoping but as long as their media co conspirators keep the Sussexes front and center of the quadrillion articles they feverishly keep writing, the “overshadowing” will continue. Also, I like how they keep indoctrinating the UK to the fact that NONE of the BRF will be doing more “work”. And what’s this new bs about W being close to TQ? Since when and where’s the evidence? They used to claim that W&H were close too…

And shame on W for using his dead grandmother for more self promotion. They will never let her rest in peace as they continue to tarnish and trash her beloved monarchy.

    • Julianna says:

@Laura D. I must have missed that part. What exactly happened with the Wild Isles series?

      • Laura D says:

@Julianna – The BBC pulled the sixth episode of the documentary because it feared a backlash from the political right (*cough – the government – cough*) The “missing” episode concentrated on “controversial” re-wilding projects and how some farming practices have harmed wild life. It always irked me that William could interfere with the Princes and the Press but, said absolutely nothing about the BBC being silenced on something he is supposed to be so passionate about. The concerns raised in the episode were not in a country on a different continent these are real environmental problems in the country where he will eventually be king. Even now it makes me want to spit feathers. TOB used Attenborough for photo-ops, but when the full weight of the crown was needed to champion the cause William was nowhere to be seen.

    Pegs. Doesn’t. Work.

  9. Wannabefarmer says:

    What work was that exactly????

Name me ONE thing he has done that has shown impact.

I’ll wait…. well maybe not. No one has that much time.

  10. Mary Pester says:

Supported his work??? Wasn’t the Queen the one who called Kate lazy and said “she must work and be seen to work”, so she got pregnant! That was her “work”. Every time questions were raised about keens lack of work, SHE GOT PREGNANT! Now she uses child care as an excuse to do sod all by way of real work, other than carrying a shiny new notebook “that says notebook on the cover to remind her to look serious!!!” She didn’t support Williams work, because she didn’t bloody know what he was supposed to be doing! She saw the flop tours (and asked them what the hell they were thinking of) oh and Charlie is doing a good job?? Am I living in an alternate universe? He hasn’t visited any commonwealth countries (because one, he can’t remember who they are, and two, he knows most of them don’t want him) the anti monarchy movement is growing, along with the Down with the crown one! Elizabeth held it together through her work ethic and longevity. Charlie is a useless weak king, just like he is a useless weak, ineffective father. Sussexit didn’t destroy the monarchy, Charlie and lazy william with his jealousy ridden wife have

    • Betty says:

Every time a story comes out about William and Kate regarding their relationship with Queen, it makes me realize how angry they must be that the Queen had a genuine connection with Harry and Meghan. She didn’t show any public support during abuse or after they stepped down, but with these latest revelations about her health, it’s clear she had not been in control for a long time.

      • roooth says:

The Queen was probably happier around Harry & Meghan because they didn’t want anything from her but a real family connection – and they were the only family members not trying to manipulate her for their own positioning. With Harry & Meghan, she could have had an authentic relationship. I hope its true that they had Zoom calls with her and the kids.

  11. Brassy Rebel says:

People in Great Britain are Britons, not Britains. This is the level of discourse to which People mag has fallen. Which is why I didn’t read beyond that first bad sentence.

  12. Becks1 says:

    His “work” 🤣🤣🤣

  13. Ginny says:

Oh geez — I had truly forgotten all about Homewards!

  14. Lizzie says:

Oh yes, I remember how she made a big welcome and job well done from QEII when bill and Cathy came home from the last Caribbean tour, not. She snubbed the both of them after they effed up something close to her heart. She thought them both lazy and had no respect for either. Only now that she is gone do Bill and Cathy dare put out pr like this.

  15. Thelma says:

What work, pray tell People Magazine????!!!!

  16. Beach Dreams says:

It’s always been interesting to me how Elizabeth’s relationships with her grandchildren were reported when she was alive. Like…pretty much all of them have been referred to as her favorite at some point…all except William. Maybe I missed it, but any discussions/reports of their relationship I’ve seen were always framed in a “monarch training the heir” kind of way, fairly cold and businesslike. I feel like there’s been more stories about her frustration with his (and Kate’s) refusal to work than any about their bond as grandmother and grandson. Funny to see them claim how close the two supposedly were, now that she’s gone. Even here, it’s still partially framed around the matter of “work”.

    • Lorelei says:

@Beach Dreams, that’s a good point and I’d never noticed it before! But you’re right— EVERYONE has been called the “Queen’s favorite” at one time or another— except William. LMFAO

    • Apple says:

People have described eliza as been weary of Charles because he was a boy. She didn’t want to be replaced. I noticed that William and eliza have no fun stories. The closest one is her scaring him when he was chasing his aunt Anne’s daughter. I think she kept him at arms length.

  17. BQM says:

Well she didn’t make a cameo in any of his work related videos like she did for invictus. Still one of my favorite things.

  18. Saucy&Sassy says:

I’m thinking that Harry was a buffer in that family. Since he’s been gone, the leaking between BP and KP has been aimed at discrediting each other. No wonder they need Harry back.

  19. JEB says:

Meh, all bs. I’d rather read about Jimmy Buffett-we lost a national treasure and he was passionate about saving the manatees-going back decades!
