Brandi Glanville is threatening to sue Andy Cohen for sexual harassment

Last fall, Vanity Fair published what was supposed to be a scathing exposé on the Real Housewife franchises, with dirty details about how producers have always encouraged fighting, drama, racism, alcohol abuse and drug abuse. The exposé landed with a whimper though. My theory is that most Real Housewife fans are tuning in for that exact drama and since everyone involved is an adult who willingly signs up for it, no one cares. Andy Cohen, who produces the franchises, walked away from the VF piece with his career intact and barely a slap on the wrist from Bravo. But… this new story is the kind of thing which might actually lead to something.

So, remember Brandi Glanville? Used to be married to Eddie Cibrian until LeAnn Rimes “stole” him (and LeAnn promptly started Single-White-Female-ing everything about Brandi). Brandi needed money in the wake of her divorce, so she turned to reality stardom. She did a stint on Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, among other reality shows. Well, she’s now threatening to sue Andy Cohen, NBC and Warner Bros:

Brandi Glanville is accusing Bravo head honcho Andy Cohen of sexually harassing her, according to a scathing letter her attorneys sent NBC, Shed Media and Warner Bros. and obtained by Page Six. The “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” alum, 51, claims the “Watch What Happens Live” host, 55, allegedly sent her a video in 2022, in which he appeared “obviously inebriated.”

Cohen allegedly “boasted” in the clip that he wanted to “sleep with another Bravo star” while “thinking” of Glanville, per the letter, and allegedly invited the former “Housewife” to watch him engage in the sexual act via FaceTime. The identity of the reality star that the father of two allegedly wanted to hook up with was not disclosed.

“Mr. Cohen was Ms. Glanville’s boss at the time and exercised complete and total control over her career,” the letter further states. “This was an extraordinary abuse of power that left Ms. Glanville feeling trapped and disgusted. It is inconceivable that Mr. Cohen remains in his post in spite of this behavior and harkens back to the bad old days of Matt Lauer and NBC News when profits were prioritized over people.”

Not many Bravo stars have publicly spoken out against Cohen and it appears none have come forward to accuse him of sexual harassment in the past. However, “Real Housewives of New York City” alum Bethenny Frankel has been at the forefront of a “reality TV reckoning” at Bravo and has accused her former boss of belittling racism at the network.

“Real Housewives of Atlanta” alum Nene Leakes also previously sued Bravo, claiming she was discriminated against because of the color of her skin — but then withdrew the suit.

[From Page Six]

Yeah, the dominos will really begin to fall once the first person proves in court (or in an out-of-court settlement) that Cohen and Real Housewife producers have created a hostile work environment. I think Glanville is on to something here and, by the way, I believe her. I absolutely believe that Cohen regularly “crosses lines” with the housewives and that he feels that he can say and do outrageous things and it’s not sexual harassment.

PS… While this is the first time a Housewife (or adjacent-Housewife) has threatened to sue Cohen specifically for sexual harassment, NBC is actually being sued by Caroline Manzo because she claims Brandi Glanville sexually harassed her, during a filmed “girls’ trip” in which producers encouraged the women to harass each other.

I believe it. Andy has a long history of not respecting boundaries. And he thinks because he’s gay it doesn’t count because he’s not being serious. It doesn’t work that way. I hope she sues and wins.

    • Brassy Rebel says:

That was my thought too. He thinks that being gay he can get away with these sorts of power plays.

And I’m old enough to remember when Bravo was the “culture programming” network.

I have always had a soft spot for Brandi.
Years ago, My ex partner left me and our child and moved to another country. When I was struggling with the transition to Single mom I was a mess, for her to put herself out there on tv whilst going through the transition was wild and very very brave. She’s a hot mess a lot of the time but I like her.

      • Raven says:

Brandi hersel is being accused of sexually harassment.

      • Lau says:

@Laurac, it’s really hard to have a soft spot for Brandi when you’ve watch any episode of RHOBH she was in because she’s a pretty terrible person throughout the whole thing. Now, I have no doubt that production encouraged her to be absolutely terrible. There is no good side to that story.

I read her first book and thought it was a blast, but her “kept woman” identity lead to some really toxic ideas about gender and sexuality. She had a moment when she first came on the scene as the wronged but totally badass woman but absolutely lacked the substance to launch that into any real relevance.

  2. Flamingo says:

We see how drunk he got on CNN NYE to the point where they had to ban alcohol for a year or two. I can see him doing this thinking it’s funny and Brandi is up for anything. But he was her boss and it’s a power imbalance.

I think Bravo/NBC will fold quickly and settle with her.

  3. Robert Phillips says:

The networks aren’t spending money on scripted series. So their looking for more reality series. Now with this lawsuit that will stop one of the largest reality franchises. And cool others from being started. We are all watching the end of network tv. And with that gone what are streaming services going to mostly stream. This might be the end of the U.S.’s hold on the entertainment industry.

Andy Cohen has always come across to me as a skeeve. It doesn’t matter what one’s orientation is, a skeeve is a skeeve. Various alumni of reality television have popped up from time to time to say how bad the situation is behind the scenes. Complaints about Love is Blind and Love Island come to mind. But this allegation is different. This allegation is gross and, if true, one of the worst I’ve read. He was her BOSS! I believe Brandi and I hope she is compensated handsomely for what she had to endure. (And I hope The Skeeve is punished in a way that any other boss in any other organization would be punished.)

  5. BeanieBean says:

I believe Brandi. I also believe the impetus for the suit is the suit against her from Caroline Manzo. What a mess.

  6. Jananell says:

For real? This is Brandi Glanville making a money grab. Save me her outrage. 🤷

  7. Robyn says:

I think the biggest problem is that Bravo kept hiring Brandi Glanville knowing that she is emotionally unstable and volatile — and in fact kept encouraging her to behave that way. So it’s ironic that it’s now coming back to get them. I also agree that Andy Cohen probably behaves in such a way that would get him fired in any “normal” work environment. That said, I think Brandi is super-reaching here. Andy said that the video shows him and Kate Chastain (Brandi’s good friend) joking with Brandi about a fake threesome, and Brandi responding in kind. This is literally what the shows are all about, and Brandi herself makes those jokes CONSTANTLY, including with Andy live on air multiple times. She is furious that she has been blacklisted and seeking revenge.

  8. Bumblebee says:

This guy is the worst. Bravo has really become a cesspool.

  9. kand says:

Brandi isn’t accused only of sexually harassing Caroline Manzo, she’s accused of a traumatising sexual assault where she locked a woman in a toilet and groped her vagina while the victim screamed for help. And she’s also named in a second lawsuit as having sexually harassed the butler on Real Housewives Ultimate Girl’s Trip. I doubt Andy’s drunk video where he and Kate from Below Deck joke about banging is even nearly as traumatising as the sexual assault she allegedly committed, but obviously two wrongs don’t make a right.

  10. Jayne says:

Eh, they already settled with Nene out of court and nothing happened to Andy. And Brandi isn’t the most reliable narrator.

    • Ameerah M says:

That’s one suit. Let them continue to be sued and then we will see if they continue to protect him. Because I highly doubt Nene and Brandi are the only ones. Caroline Manzo sued as well. This will keep happening because he is going unchecked.

  11. Seraphina says:

I don’t know anything about her, but Andy always gave me a gross nasty feeling. Stopped watch Anderson after I saw they were friends. Andy is a complete POT and I always wondered how he managed to hold on to power this long.

  12. bettyrose says:

I miss the Brandi/Leann stories! This should be fun. (Also, we hard predicted Eddie would leave Leanna at the 10 year mark, but he didn’t. Any theories on that?)

    • Stef says:

I was thinking the exact same thing! For years, there were so many SWF Leann stories. So entertaining. Also surprised her and Eddie are still together and they never had kids of their own (not that the latter part is anyone else’s business as to ‘why not’).

      • bettyrose says:

Kinda makes me wonder if they actually like each other. My theory is that since Eddie can do whatever TF he wants with whomever he wants, and because he’s the kinda man who needs a wife at home to handle his emotional needs, he doesn’t have a reason to deal with the headache of a divorce. (I have a side theory that Leann has tons of crap on him she could go public with, but I’m not sure who’d care about his secrets so that’s not much of a theory.)
