Beyonce went for a full mullet on the cover of CR Fashion Book: love it or hate it?

While Beyonce obviously has new music out these days, she’s also launched a side project which is getting a lot of attention. She’s finally done a haircare line called Cécred. Because of her Cécred (pronounced like “sacred”) promotion, Beyonce is suddenly back on magazine covers. This one shocked me though – she’s on the cover of CR Fashion Book, which is Carine Rotifeld’s little magazine. Roitfeld and her magazine stylists always do the weirdest things with their cover stars’ hair, and it’s no different here. They gave Beyonce a mullet!!! My god. Here’s the preview of Beyonce’s interview (???) in CR Fashion Book:

“I always wanted an asymmetrical cut in the ’90s, but my mother wouldn’t let me do it. So I’m having the time of my life at this shoot.”

For @beyonce, the deeply personal and transformative qualities connecting her to hair throughout her life have served as a source of inspiration for the development of @cecred. “Hair is actually the first step when I’m creating tours, films, and albums; being able to see the hairstyles first is what influences the sound, looks…everything.”

Now, Beyonce is sharing her sacred hair-care secrets with @cecred. “It has always been a dream of mine to create top-of-the-line, luxury products. I wanted to combine the best scientific advancements with true rituals from different heritages.”

I’m trying to imagine Destiny’s Child in the early days if Beyonce was rocking a mullet. It would not have been the same!! It’s crazy that she wanted an asymmetrical look when she was a kid. As for the CR Fashion Book editorial… I don’t know what I can even say at this point. Roitfeld and her team are not the editorial wizards they think they are.

She should do as she pleases, as should we all, but even the most beautiful people in the world would find it difficult to bring shine time to this look. It’s like a topknot – I fervently argue that no one looks good in that severe style.

The problem is the hair, not the head its on.

      Agreed!

I will never understand the current middle part obsession but to each their own. To me it looks like a school marm from Little House on the Prairie.

I wonder if Beyonce is talking about the all over short cut that was shaved on one side then spiraled down to a short bob on the other. Those looked amazing on some women. But this side mullet is hideous and the color washes her out.

I’m showing my age but that is the Carol Brady shag as far as I am concerned. It is not and has never been a good look. Can we get Jay in a Mike Brady perm to go with?

    • bitchy architect says:

I think she looks amazing and I love her shullet. 100% Team Mullet here. the Carole Brady haircut is more of a shag not a mullet. I would describe this as an asymetrical shag not a mullet or a shullet. Either way I love it on her. I started growing my hair into a mullet last year and I love it so much. But I like to be ridiculous so I give it a French pronunciation- (pronouncing it moollay)

      • Nic says:

@architect 💯 agree. I love this shag in general and on her in particular. She’s got such a gorgeous face and bone structure it’s a shame to hide it under a mass of long hair.

She looks amazing no matter what!

It’s a clue! Part III is going to be a rock album!!

Totally! I don’t think anyone has any doubt at this point, and I’m so here for it! Given how long this whole project has been in the oven, I’m willing to bet Tina Turner was _somehow_ involved. (it’s a very WILD GUESS)

Beyonce has never been known for being the editorial fashion person in my personal opinion. This is just one more added to that. Yes, her tour outfits have been great, mv outfits too but minus that are regular photo shoots have never made me go Wow, this is out of the world. The leather, tight fits, cut outs, loads of bling….her personal fashion is predictable and boring.

    • Chic says:

Bey is commercial and a fashion mess.
Agree. SoLange on the other hand is editorial and I still love her wedding pics today.

  6. DaniM says:

We’re too used to her with ALL the hair.

    I think it looks awesome.

  7. CatMum says:

it’s the Miley influence! I think she looks great. as usual. she can rock dramatic lewks that nobody else could get away with, and she does. love it.

    • Smart&Messy says:

I love the hair too actually. Her body on that cover photo is very weird though. Is she bending forward to have that short waist and huge thigh gap combo? Like a doll or robot.

Beyonce is not referring to a mullet. She is referring to the asymetric cut that every Black girl wanted in the late 80s and early 90s. MC Lyte had one. I had one as well – my Mom actually let me have a “slight” asymetric cut. And they are a NIGHTMARE to grow out. Never again!

Just heard Beyonce sing Jolene. Wow, she was amazing! I wasn’t sure about why she wanted to go country, considering she’s so good doing what she does. But man, she nailed that song and I give her props for venturing into an entirely new type of music, a risky venture for an artist. I wasn’t really impressed with Texas Hold ‘Em, but Jolene was so damn good!
