Queen Camilla was honoured with her very own Barbie doll at a celebratory reception hosted at Buckingham Palace on Tuesday (12March2024).
The event marked the finale of the Women of the World Foundation’s WOW Girls Festival Bus Tour following International Women’s Day (8 March).
To celebrate Queen Camilla’s role as President of The WOW Foundation and the work of the foundation in empowering girls and women, Barbie created a one-of-a-kind Barbie doll in The Queen’s likeness, complete with a WOW badge.
The doll was presented to The Queen at the reception – which was also attended by Dame Helen Mirren, who was herself the recipient of a special Barbie last week.
“Since 1959, Barbie’s purpose has been to show girls they have choices,” said Krista Berger, Senior Vice President of Barbie and Global Head of Dolls of Mattel. “In a momentous 65th anniversary year for Barbie, we are proud to be working with incredible global partners, including Women of the World Foundation, to inspire a broader movement that reshapes how society perceives and supports girls’ dreams. Today, we are honoured to celebrate Her Majesty, The Queen, and the WOW Foundation’s commitment to empowering girls.”
Before her death in September 2022, the late Queen Elizabeth II was also honoured with a Barbie doll – although she did not accept one personally.
The doll is dressed in an ensemble inspired by the current Queen’s wardrobe, with Barbie expressing gratitude to various fashion designers, including Fiona Clare for the cobalt blue dress from Her Majesty’s Coronation portrait, Amanda Wakeley for the black cape, Eliot Zed for the black heels, Launer for the black handbag, The WOW Foundation for the WOW badge, and Van Cleef & Arpels for the bracelet.
The WOW Girls Festival is supported by partner organisations, brands and firms, including WOW UK Girls Champion Barbie.
