Demi Moore sets up her bed so her nine dogs can sleep with her

One of the things I miss the most since my Chihuahua-Dachshund My Girl crossed the rainbow bridge (aside from absolutely everything) is us snuggling in bed together. Typically she’d start above the covers, but at some point she’d go under and curl up in her favorite position: tush to tush. So even though I now have the ability to spread out, I still miss the feeling of My Girl relegating the both of us to one half of the bed (the same half). But that was just me and my 20-pound gal on a full-size mattress. I’m guessing Demi Moore has a California King, because she just told Jimmy Fallon she has an elaborate bedtime routine so that some/most/all of her nine dogs can sleep with her. Demi was on The Tonight Show Monday to promote her new movie The Substance (which she’s getting rave reviews for), and that’s when she described the preparations that go into making nine companions of various sizes comfortable for their slumber:

“I sleep with dogs,” Moore, 61, told host Jimmy Fallon. “If anybody saw my nighttime routine, if it was filmed, they would really see how eccentric I really am.”

The actress continued to explain that her routine ensures that her dogs are comfortable in her bed.

“I have to prop pillows so the ones that are this size have the ability to get under the covers,” she said while demonstrating the act. “I have two beds for the little ones, so that they have the beds within the bed.”

Laughing, Fallon responded, “You take care of them.”

“Of course! Hence why I’m single,” she joked.

Earlier in the interview, Moore spoke about her 1.2-pound dog Pilaf, whom she is often photographed with. “She’s the runt of her litter. She’s a magical creature,” she said of the Chihuahua. Fallon noted that when he met the pup backstage, her “tongue permanently stays out,” to which the actress explained was because she “lost the teeth that hold it in, but it’s part of her charm.”

The host also shared a video of Moore’s dogs waiting for her to return after she left the house. In the clip, the actress can be seen opening the door, which reveals eight dogs staring at her in the entrance. “That’s like a cartoon! That’s like The Secret Life of Pets!” he exclaimed, in reference to the 2016 animated film. “They’re all in their beds, like, ‘Hi, what’s going on?’”

Last month, Pilaf graced the cover of Vogue’s special “celebri-dog” collection called Dogue, which also featured Glen Powell’s pup Brisket and Billie Eilish’s canine Shark. In the accompanying interview, Moore shared that her daughter Tallulah Willis found Pilaf on Facebook during the COVID-19 pandemic and arranged for the dog to be flown to Los Angeles from Thailand.

“She was meant to be with me, and I was meant to be with her,” Moore said of the tiny pup.

On Sept. 8, Naomi Watts arranged for Pilaf to meet her costar Bing, the Great Dane from her movie The Friend, at the 2024 Toronto International Film Festival. Moore, who was at the festival to promote her movie The Substance, shared the interaction on Instagram. The post featured a set of photos and a video showcasing the two dogs’ dramatic stature differences, one of which was of Pilaf standing near the larger dog’s head.

Have you seen Pilaf’s Dogue cover? It’s fabulously ridiculous because she’s just this little dot in the bottom right corner. They could’ve, you know, done a CLOSE UP. But instead they leaned into her svelte 1.2-pound figure (what do you expect from the fashion industry?!) and accentuated her tiny-osity. And that’s what makes it ART! Pilaf is a star, like many great I-lost-my-teeth-so-my-tongue-permanently-hangs-out-the-side-of-my-mouth dogs before her. She’s been on red carpets, late night shows, and the Cannes Film Festival! I’ve enjoyed following her exploits, and am slightly embarrassed to say I had no idea Demi had eight other dogs at home! So I mean no disrespect to Pilaf when I ask: what’s up with that?! Why does Pilaf get her own Instagram and to travel the world, while the rest of the pack is chopped liver? Does it not breed animosity between Pilaf and her siblings? “Toronto is just beautiful in September! How was your day?” “I took a six-hour nap then farted myself awake.” This situation seems fraught, I tell you, fraught! Thank goodness they all get to sleep in bed with Mama…

    Nine Dog Night?

Nine is a lot. My small dog shares my bed.

I’m so sorry to hear about My Girl. My senior cat is glued to me most nights and while I often find myself half falling out of bed with no duvet because he sleeps in the middle (and is big as cats go), I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when he’s not here anymore. Even nights away are weird in spite of being able to stretch out properly.

Dogs are the best for keeping warm at night. I went from sharing with a 200lb mastiff to two 60lb basset hounds, with added cat.

Love the pictures of Bing and Pilaf. Our big dogs always loved little dogs. I wish I had video of our late great mastiffs playing with a plumber’s dachshunds. It was comical.

My neighbor has a chihuahua with the same tongue situation, and it is so freaking adorable.

Nine dogs is a lot! My two slept with me sometimes when they were still with me (they both passed within the last four years). And when the Big Freeze hit Texas, snuggling with the pets was how I kept warm before the power returned. But I don’t think I could sleep with nine furry friends, lol.

I’m getting over a bad head cold and my fuzzy brain misread the headline as “Demi Moore sh*ts up her bed…” and was mightily confused for a good 15 seconds. I like sleeping with pets but not to that extent!

I miss my dog so much (rainbow bridge 3 years ago) and have to say that I am envious of her set up. My husband doesn’t want another dog because of the heartbreak of losing the last one, and so unless I get divorced, I’ll most likely not have that life again

My BIG dogs are not allowed on the bed because there would be no room for the humans. But they are excellent partners for an afternoon nap on the couch.
