Mariah Carey uses new music video for her juvenile dress-up fantasies

I don’t even know how to describe this mess of a video from Mariah Carey. This is her new single “Up Out My Face”. What is with the 40-something divas and their hatred of “of”? First Jennifer Lopez’s “genius” single “Fresh Out The Oven” and now this. Damn it, I like “of”. “Of” is an important word.

Michael K at D-listed called this video “a Target commercial specifically aimed at wig-wearing women who spend all their coins on plastic surgery and only surround themselves with drag queens and make-up artists (aka Lil’ Kim).” And now I can’t get “Target commercial” stuck out my head. See? Needs an “of”. You miss the “of”. But yeah, Target commercial. I wonder if they got the same director?

Just a few quick shots: Mariah as a sl-tty nurse? What is she, a college girl dressing up for a kegger? Mariah as a Barbie doll? Ugh… sure. Actually, that one’s not a horrible idea. It’s past time for Mariah to have her own Barbie. Here’s the thing though – the imagery of this video has literally nothing to do with the song. Mariah just uses her videos to play out her juvenile dress-up fantasies. Oh, Mariah. You need to get up out my face.

Well, i watched it for 1:24 seconds with the sound off, and i found myself completely..having a dazed and confused moment. I thought..it’s not over yet?
These women and their “artistry” frighten me.

Mariah, great voice. But clothing choices, videos, “creative ideas”….she has to grow up sometimes, er, doesn’t she?

  3. lucy says:

One of my professor’s had three words for Mariah – “Give it up”

  4. europe says:

eeww Mimoo need to stop. she looks like my old 40 year old Aunt who thinks she still 21 years old

  5. Squirrel says:

1.35 – I think she actually did fall out of that box unintentionally and is being laughed at by her singing buddy – hilarious!

Crap song and pretentious prancing around in yet another outfit to outdo her previous efforts to be ‘sexy’. I think if she just covered up and used the talent she was given with such a voice she would derive a lot more from it!

the biggest pig in the world did it first and continues to do it well into her 50’s and everybody cheered and paid her for it. what did people expect? go Jersey Shore…way classier

  7. Relli says:

Yes she is now that sad Aunt who believes she is still as bangin as she was at 21. sad.

  8. andrea says:

she is hilarious. unintentionally. which makes it even better. i particularly like the blue eyeshadow with the nurse outfit, the plastic skirt with the awful bangs wig and wtf with the marching band part at the end?? the thing that bugs me about mariah is that she stopped singing. i mean, she’s got that voice, and since she embraced more of an R&B/hip hop sound, she sounds basically like a backup singer on her own songs. she doesnt really use the full extent of her voice anymore, which is a shame.

  9. Ggirl says:

Urgh! This creature bothers me so much! Yea, she is blessed with a beautiful voice, but since I am an older gossip junkie, I have been assaulted FOR YEARS to the over exposure of her bosom and those annoying butterflies! Someone make it stop! She desperately needs a new look, new approach or new something.

I thought Target commercial before I even read the post!

  11. Snarf says:

Actually the freeze frame makes the two of them look more like a couple of drag queens than actual drag queens.

  12. ! says:

This song is so….directionless. Unfocused. I can’t listen to it for very long. I keep waiting for something catchy and it never comes.

Oh yeah and this video looks like St. Valentine vomited.

    projectile vomit inducing

Am I the only one who liked watching her? This is what I expect of Mariah. To me, she has passed the point of being taken as a “serious” singer. She is now just pure entertainment, and I don’t mind looking.

SIGH!!!! What’s funny is I can remember being 9 and listening to “Vision of Love” on the radio and just being mesmerized by her voice…then my mother bought me the CD and I was floored with the whole thing…after that I was a loyal fan ever since…Mariah used to wear simple black dresses and and would just sing until everyone was crying…She is soooo talented I can not understand for the life of me WHY she feels the need to sing these wack ass songs with these fly by night artists with the yanky ass producers…remember when Mariah worked with Babyface and Walter Affenstef (sp?) that’s when her voice and songs used to move people hell when Mariah would write her OWN songs they were AMAZING but this mess right here is just so dissapointing to someone like me who is a true fan. I would give anything if Mariah would put down this ridiculous act and just sing something acapella like back in the day. It’s like Mariah doesn’t get it…J.LO and Madonna have to have gimmicks b/c without them there is no voice to back it up…Mariah doesn’t need to do that…She has by far one of the most amazing voices of all time…she is right up there with Aretha, Whitney, Barbara, and Celine…so why oh why is she even wasting her time and ours with these nonsense songs…I want Mariah to sing and really sing not this whisper shyte that she’s been doing as of late and stop with the sexy thing….it’s overkill…and frankly it’s not working you were much sexier when you were subdued and showcased your talent…I can’t with her…and Nicki Minaj!!!! are you kidding me???? who is Mariah trying to relate to? young kids don’t even know the Mariah that I am talking about the Mariah that made every little girl (including Beyonce, Christina Agulera) want to sing…but this Mariah here is just sad and pitiful…is somebody going to tell her to stop…when will she get it…when she does concerts in Europe they ALWAYS request the old stuff…no one like this shit…it’s sad that someone who is destined to be a legend is doing everything in their power to be a joke.

Poor Nick Cannon, must be tough to put up with her crap

  17. Danielle says:

Does Nick Cannon remember there is LIFE after Drumline?

  18. kermit says:

I don’t care for Mariah Carey’s style at all and think she tends to sing to impress rather than sing to convey. That said, I don’t care for the act of dress up. But, if women dress up at 20, why can’t they dress up at 40 or 50+? Women don’t suddenly become nonsexual or nonsexy when they reach a certain age. In fact, women tend to be more sexual over 40. I say parade around like that if it is your image. I don’t care for it but I don’t buy the your over 40 so it is sexy anymore sentiments either.

  19. tess says:

if i were her teacher writing her report card and looking desperately for something positive to say i would come up with…
    she tries hard!

too hard, that’s the painful problem.

  20. Allison says:

i thought it was actually kinda cute.

  21. M says:

    @ NicoleB:
Mariah only wore those dresses as Tommy Mattola made her wear them. What 20 year old girl wants to wear a high neck, ankle length drab black dress?
Mattola marketed her to the public as the racially ambiguous girl next door. She used to be criticized her for trying to sound black.
I really don’t care how people dress, it doesn’t actaully tell you anything substantial about them. I’ve worked in research and met some of the most respected and intelligent professors in certain disciplines, most of them could be mistaken for a homeless person if you were to walk by them on the street…

At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter what music Mariah puts out (although I think those ballads were even worse that the current stuff lol I still cringe when I hear “Hero”) her voice is amazing.

PS When has Mariah ever needed the excuse of a music video to play her dress up fantasies? lol
PPS she still works with Babyface
PPPS Celine has no musical credibility, not even vocally.

  22. NicoleAM says:

Mariah’s prob is not that she can’t be sexy anymore ’cause she’s 40. She just doesn’t seem to realize there’s a different kind of sexy for different ages. She’s not dressing like she’s still 25, some of her “outfits” look like something a teenager would wear. Or a college freshman at her 1st big girl Halloween party.
And frankly, while she’s not fat, she’s not teeny either, and she wears clothes that are at least 2 sizes too small.
I think Tommy M. needs to set up an intervention. Ever since she divorced him she seems to care more about her clothes than her music.

  23. NicoleAM says:

I posted the comment before viewing the video so…after viewing this atrocity, yea the video/song is horrible, nice of her to throw her assistant, er, hubby some work, and ENOUGH WITH THE BUTTERFLIES ALREADY!

  24. koi says:

ahhh Mariah to me has jus been a major disappointment….am kenyan and her music around here is considered the greatest of all time…. then she goes ahead with this….
Mariah..take a low down…get some air and some time off…maybe that wil ge your head out of the gutter….get back to what you know you can deliver to satisfaction….!!!!!!

  25. embertine says:

I haven’t watched the video, but as someone who also has juvenile dress-up fantasies, I applaud this.

  26. sickofit says:

is she really wearing a handbag by herself in that vid? Must have been hard for her to act that scene…

  27. I Choose Me says:

Oh come on. I thought it was pretty amusing. I don’t think Mariah takes herself as seriously as we suppose. Wish she’d do more actual singing though than this breathy/talky shit she’s being doing for a while. Still love ya Mimi!

    Edit: I hear ya NicoleB.

  28. orion70 says:

    Wow, great song.
