Heidi Montag’s album Superficial is #1 on iTunes following the loss of her home

I have not thought about Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag in years, but their marriage is still going strong and they’re still hustling. Their children, Gunner and Ryker, are now seven and two, respectively. Unfortunately for the Pratt/Montage family, their Pacific Palisades home was one of the many houses and businesses that were destroyed in the Los Angeles fires. Spencer even posted a scary video of their house in flames and then followed it up with a tour of what was left of the house. Ugh.

But, nothing can knock Spencer or Heidi down, so they came up with a creative way to earn money. On Friday, Spencer urged people to stream Heidi’s 2010 record “Superficial” on the streaming platform of their choice to help them make some extra income. He then spent the weekend reposting videos of their famous friends streaming it, and low and beyond, “Superficial” actually made it up to the number 1 spot on iTunes. Oh, Spencer, never change.

Heidi Montag’s 2010 record “Superficial” is now No. 1 on iTunes after her husband, Spencer Pratt, asked fans to stream the album to help generate income after their house burned down in the Palisades fire.

On Friday, Pratt posted a series of photos to TikTok of him posing in front of his destroyed home with the caption, “Please stream any of [Heidi Montag’s] music on any platforms it will make a huge difference.”

Pratt continuously updated his followers on social media as the album climbed the charts. With the help of fans and celebrities like Flava Flav and Emily Ratajkowski, who helped encourage the movement, “Superficial” reached No.1 on iTunes on Saturday, beating out Bad Bunny’s “Debí Tirar Más Fotos.”

Pratt posted a video to Instagram shortly after celebrating the achievement.

“Popstar Heidi Montag No. 1 on iTunes America,” Pratt said. “Thank you everyone! Who needs a house, who needs clothes, who needs anything but this level of clout, pop, superstardom? Our sons are gonna be like, ‘My mom was No. 1 on iTunes America.’ Thank you to everyone who made this happen.”

Now that they’ve conquered the iTunes charts, Pratt and Montag are moving on to Billboard. In a follow-up post on TikTok, Pratt urged anyone “who owns a radio station or knows a radio station” to plug “Superficial” in order to help their chances.

“We need radio play, I guess, not just iTunes to get No. 1 on Billboard charts, which is the ultimate goal,” Pratt said. “Cause then it’s like, that a wrap, Heidi is the biggest superstar in the world.”

Since they just lost their house, I will give Spencer points for the creativity and the hustle. He didn’t ask for people to donate money the traditional way, but rather in a way that required minimal participation while also managing to get Heidi’s name back in the spotlight and on the charts for a hot minute. I also had no idea that Heidi was still making music, but she’s still releasing new songs. The most recent single, a club song called “Go Harder,” dropped on January 3, so bonus points for Spencer for also boosting that song’s profile, too. Not gonna lie – I streamed “Superficial” because I couldn’t for the life of me remember it, and it’s catchy, I guess. Sure, it’s not a great song by any stretch, but that’s what the mute button is for, lol.

I’m glad they were able to generate cash in this tragedy. I gotta admit I was never a Hills watcher or Laguna beach for that matter. I’m pretty sure I have nothing in common with them (for a host of reasons, but I will say it’s pretty heartening that they are still together and Spencer goes hard for his wife. There are worse things.

  2. Ms single malt says:

I thought it was interesting when he said they earn no money from viewers streaming The Hills.
He has always given me the ick. But Heidi and family look happy.

  3. Gabby says:

I think I speak for a lot of people when I say……oh, she sings?

I have no idea who these people are. However, if playing her album will help them recover from their emotionally wrenching loss, can do.

  5. Sue says:

I mean, good on Spencer for supporting his wife’s career. Their kids are cute. I’m glad they’re okay and I’m sorry they lost their home.
I can say nice things about Spencer and Heidi.

  6. SG says:

If you’re not on TikTok you won’t be able to understand or appreciate how this is unfolding for them, but you can get caught up on Spencer’s humanity and humility if you watch his most recent TMZ interview. https://amp.tmz.com/2025/01/13/spencer-pratt-emotional-starting-from-zero-lost-home-palisades-fire/

  7. Stef says:

Glad they’re OK. They’ve always been grifters who’ve played on public sympathy to generate income, both of them, so this checks out. Her music is truly terrible, she can’t sing and it’s frankly embarrassing. Apparently, some people like it though!

Sorry they lost their home, that’s such a nightmare.

  8. Emily says:

Spencer and Heidi played the villains well, and were the prototype for reality TV villains that came after them. In real life, they seem to have a strong marriage and I admire how hard Spencer rides for his wife. He’s coming for Kris Jenner’s crown with this.

  9. Jillybean says:

Hmmm I remember them as annoying reality people?? However nothing beats a great hustle story!
