Pedro Pascal made a big splash at Cannes when he arrived to premiere his new film, Eddington. Not only was he classically dapper on the red carpet, but he was also a good samaritan to two of his castmates, saving Emma Stone from a bee and Joaquin Phoenix from making an accidental salute. At the photocall and press conference the next day, Pedro wore a Calvin Klein sleeveless tunic, briefly waited for all of us to be resuscitated, and proceeded to speak compassionately about his experience emigrating from Chile, and the chilling parallels to the US today. Turns out, our favorite TV/movie star heartthrob hero had already made a statement before he even set foot in Cannes — he flew economy class to get to the festival! Granted, he was flying in from London, so we’re only talking a two-hour flight. But his humble seat selection still has the internet hailing him a man of the people:
The “Last of Us” star was filmed on an economy flight from London toward the Cannes Film Festival in France where his upcoming western comedy “Eddington” premiered.
Filmmaker and influencer Lucas Pelizaro recorded the “Mandalorian” alum boarding the plane on May 16 ahead of the annual festival the same day. In a comedic skit shared on social media, Pelizaro pretended that Pascal followed him to Cannes and snuck into the movie premiere, which he stars in.
“Things really got out of hand when we landed, he pretended to forget his phone on a plane, just so that he could be in the same shutter bus as I was. So I went as fast as I could to border control and tried to make my way through to see if I could lose him. But he didn’t care,” Pelizaro joked. “He snuck into the premiere and Cannes is strict. They don’t let anyone in but somehow this guy just walked straight in.”
During a Cannes news conference last week, Pascal was asked how he felt about millions of Latin migrants living in the U.S. undocumented and whether he’s concerned the country will be completely closed off.
“I want people to be safe and to be protected — and I want, very much, to live on the right side of history,” Pascal said. “I am an immigrant. My parents are refugees from Chile. I, myself, was a refugee. We fled a dictatorship and I was privileged enough to grow up in the U.S. after asylum in Denmark.”
He added that he didn’t know what his life would be like if he didn’t grow up in the U.S. The quote went viral on social media with the clip receiving over 7.5 million views on X.
“Pedro has always been a cool dude and he just got cooler in my book. Stand for what you believe in. Be a decent human being that’s all any of us can and should be required to do!” one user wrote.
What do we think: is Lucas Pelizaro’s video fun or invasive? I mean, the tone is funny (as is the fact that he really calls it a “shutter” bus instead of “shuttle” bus; personally I’d go with “shudder” bus to reflect recoiling at the abundance of germs, but I’m veering off topic…). But it doesn’t seem like Pedro is aware of his being filmed aboard and getting on/off the plane. Is that kind of attention par for the course now, though, for Pedro, even in transit? If Pedro’s ok with it, I’m ok with it. As for his flying economy — or as my father once called it when he got an upgrade and my mother and I did not, “Have fun in steerage!” — I would file it in the famed “Stars, they’re just like us!” category, except Pedro is NOT like us! He is the absolute best of us! He treasures real American values of freedom and inclusion, stands up for the most vulnerable, and, not for nothing, makes the one good case for the right to bare arms.

the one time I would be fine with my seatmate oozing over into my seat…
Right?😂
If I ended up sitting next to Pedro in economy, I think my fear of flying would just disappear like that.
🤣 I’m having palpitations just thinkIng about it! 💗
Pedro has always had a solid set of boundaries regarding the separation of his personal and professional life. I don’t like that he was filmed like this. It really does feel invasive to me. At the same time, I’d love nothing more than to sit next to Pedro on a plane for twelve hours so we could talk about our favorite films and TV shows.
But this man…*sigh* I love Pedro so much. I know about the dangers of parasocial relationships. I studied them and did a research project on them at one point and yet here I am.
Apparently Pedro deals with a lot of anxiety and likes to hold hands to feel safe. If I was next to him in economy class on a flight and was nervous. He could hold my hand. I would like to hold his hands….
I would have a panic attack from proximity and then he would probably comfort me because he’s dealt with them too. So. Ok let’s do this. 😂
This needs to be a PSA made into preflight instructions to relax the passengers.
He sounds like a refreshingly decent human being. Wish all good things for him.
