Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden are expecting their first baby together

Here’s some happy news. One of my fav lowkey celeb couples, Saoirse Ronan and Jack Lowden, are expecting their first child! I’ve been a fan of Saoirse since she did the 2019 remake of Little Women. (The Winona Ryder one is still my favorite, though!) Mr. Rosie and I discovered Slow Horses late last year and binged the first four seasons, which made us huge fans of Jack. I was pleasantly surprised when I found out that they got married in July 2024.

Saoirse and Jack have been together since they met on set for Mary, Queen of Scots in 2018 and got engaged sometime in 2023. The engagement was never officially confirmed, but Jack let the cat out of the bag when he posted a picture to Instagram that showed Saoirse wearing an engagement ring. True to form, their baby news didn’t come from any official outlet. It was revealed after the Daily Mail papped them while they out and about, walking their dog near their London home.

Saoirse Ronan is preparing for a new role: mom.The Lady Bird actor is expecting her first baby with Jack Lowden, according to photos obtained by the Daily Mail.

Saoirse was seen sporting a baby bump while walking with her husband and their dog in London, as seen in pictures published by the outlet May 31. More than a week prior, the actress was seen at the Louis Vuitton Cruise 2026 fashion show in France, wearing a lingerie-inspired black lacy slip dress.

And while the 31-year-old and Jack, 34—who wed last summer—are preparing for their new chapter as parents in real life, they’ve previously embarked on a parenthood journey together onscreen in Mary, Queen of Scots. In fact, it was on the 2018 film—where Saoirse played the titular Scottish queen and Jack played her husband Lord Darnley—where their love story began.

“It was remarkable working with Saoirse,” Jack gushed while speaking on a panel at AOL’s BUILD series in December 2018. “The woman is a force of nature on and off screen, and utterly fearless and a brilliant leader as well.”

In the years following the film’s release, they kept much of their romance out of the public eye, though they didn’t hold back from praising one another’s work ethic.

“I completely trust his eye,” Saoirse noted of the Slow Horses star to People in 2022. “And I know when he says something’s working, it really is, because he doesn’t ever sugarcoat anything. So I think that really helps, having someone that you really trust. And he’s sort of a typical Scot, where if there’s a problem, he’s the first one to try and solve it.”

And while the duo sparked engagement rumors in 2023—after the Little Women star donned a diamond ring on that finger—it wasn’t until a year later that they confirmed they’d tied the knot. After their nuptials, they brought their romance into the spotlight, making their red carpet debut as a married couple at the 2024 Emmy Awards where Jack was a nominee. And although the couple are close as ever, their tight-knit bond was once a fantasy to Saoirse.

“I used to think, ‘You’ll never have friends. You’ll never have a partner,’” she told USA Today in October. “I was so in my own world, in a lot of ways. So now, to feel like I’ve got a very rich personal and social life–it’s so precious to me.”

Since their romance began on a set it’s only fitting that they have begun collaborating—behind the scenes, this time. Together, they produced the 2024 movie The Outrun, which Saoirse also starred in. As for why they work so well together, the actress chalks it up to balancing each other out.

“Jack is a lot calmer than I am,” she explained. “He’s my voice of reason. But as a duo, we’ve both been on film sets our whole lives, so we have an appreciation of what we’re asking actors to do. We always want them to feel safe.”

[From E! News]

I’m so happy for them! Last November, Saoirse told British Vogue that she was at a place in her career where she was ready for children. It’s possible that she was in the very early stages of her pregnancy when she did the interview. Judging by the pictures in the Mail, she looks like she’s solidly in her second trimester, if not early into her third. I had completely missed the pictures of her at the LV Cruise 2026 fashion show in Paris, but she looks gorgeous in that black slip dress. She’s glowing and her hair looks fab.

People asked Jack and Saoirse’s reps for confirmation, but didn’t get any response. Good for them. They’re so private and I’m glad they were able to go under the radar for as long as they did. I bet if it weren’t for those pictures, we never would have known until six months from now when someone took a picture of them walking around London, pushing a baby stroller pram. I hope Saoirse’s had an easy pregnancy so far and that she has an uneventful birth.

They officially confirmed the pregnancy news to the Irish Independent, the morning after her appearance at the fashion show. The rotten Daily Fail was not the outlet that broke this news, thank goodness.

I am so delighted for them!

  2. SunnyDays says:

I love this couple. Outside of both being amazing at their jobs, they are so low key and classy. Wishing them all the best!

  3. Nuks says:

Love this couple. I hope they have the whole dream.

  4. maisie says:

I fell in love with her in Atonement.

IMO she has that same quality that we saw in young Meryl Streep in films like Kramer vs Kramer.

  5. Anne Maria says:

Irish and Scots is a great combination. Lovely couple. Soon to be lovely trio (unless it’s twins!).
