Katy Perry & Orlando Bloom are ‘spending time apart’ & ‘aren’t living the same lives’

When it feels like People Magazine, Us Weekly, Page Six and the Daily Mail are all reporting the same story out of nowhere, there are only two explanations: it’s either tabloid hive-mind OR someone’s publicist wants to start laying the groundwork for a big announcement. In the case of these Katy Perry rumors, I think it’s the latter. Suddenly this week, “sources” cannot shut up about the sorry state of Katy Perry’s decade-long relationship with Orlando Bloom. They are engaged, still, and they have a daughter, Daisy Bloom, who will turn five years old in August. Apparently, Katy and Orly have been slowly falling apart for a while, but Katy’s professional woes have sped things up. Here’s how Us Weekly is reporting it, which is similar to the way Page Six and People reported it too:

Even Katy Perry and Orlando Bloom’s inner circle can’t determine the status of their relationship.

“It’s true they’re spending time apart,” a source exclusively tells Us Weekly. “Their friends don’t know if they are permanently split.” An insider notes, however, that “this isn’t the first time” Perry, 40, and Bloom, 48, have taken space in their romance.

“The first time they broke up it was about two years after they got together,” the source adds. “It’s happened a few times, but they’ve always worked it out before.”

News broke on Tuesday, June 10, that Perry and Bloom’s relationship had hit a rough patch.

“They have been spending more and more time apart,” a second source told Us at the time. “They’ve grown apart and aren’t living the same lives anymore.”

An additional insider explained that Bloom has kept his and Perry’s issues “close to the vest,” adding that the actor has been “out and about more often” without Perry, who is currently on her worldwide Lifetimes Tour. “Katy has been very busy working, and they are apart often,” the source added. “That has caused tension.”

The Daily Mail’s big exclusive is basically the same thing, only they put more blame on Katy’s poorly-received “lackluster” album and her “struggling” world tour. Yeah… this feels like Katy’s team laying the groundwork for a breakup announcement. I also wonder if Katy and Orlando might be in for a messy custody fight over Daisy? Orlando and Miranda Kerr were never messy about their son (they were messy about other things), and they still coparent Flynn and work around each other’s schedules. I wonder if Katy is worried that it won’t be the same with Daisy?

Did Orlando come out for her space tourism thing? If he didn’t, the signs were already there.

I think part of Katy Perry’s problem is nobody gives a shit if she and Orlando Bloom break up. If I’d just heard a break up announcement, my reaction would have been “They have a kid, don’t they? Hope she’s alright.” This whole parade of leaks is just going to turn off the fans who liked her music, but didn’t really follow her.

There’s a point where pop girlies have to cycle back to the diehard fans and produce music that’s more club oriented. Part of it is just having been around long enough that the vital tween demographic thinks of you as their mom’s fave, which is a total turnoff.

I remember he gave interviews a few years ago and kept talking about how different they were, how it was really, really, really challenging sometimes. I am surprised they lasted this far honestly.

None of our business but where is there not quite 5 year old.
Is she on tour with her mom or home with her dad?

I love that Carey Hart and the kids go with Pink on tour.

I hope they work it out. If its just her recent career set backs I feel its fixable. She just needs to not mix the two or get additional support in her group to deal with it or clean house and get a new management team.

I get the impression that Katy is a mean girl while Orlando is a nice guy so her behavior runs thin for him. Something about her does not seem genuine.

Yeah, they’ve never made sense as a couple. I could see her wanting someone better than Russell Brand (yeesh, who wouldn’t?) but Bloom seems way too low-key to deal forever with the Perry circus.

It’s fascinating how little of a gossip ripple this is making. I guess it’s a long time since Legolas and playing a pirate. And of course, she’s no longer the hitmaker she was.

It feels very like a retread of tbe Affleck-Lopez split last year – the female half of the couple becoming the internet’s latest hate target after doing some truly out-of-touch stuff, followed by a slow trickle of stories about them not being in a great place, followed by all the main gossip outlets jumping on the act. Seems inevitable from here…
