Authorities in Chile turn over Keanu Reeves’s stolen luxury watches to the US

When John Wick: Chapter 4 finished filming in 2021, Keanu Reeves gifted the movie’s stunt team personalized Rolex Submariners that had engravings of their names, a thank you, and the moniker “The John Wick Five.” Keanu is known for treating film crews with decency and respect. He’s also a big gift-giver. In 2023, Keanu’s home was broken into. Several items were stolen, including six Rolexes. One of those Rolexes was one of the engraved JW4 watches. In a happy plot twist, Keanu’s stolen goods were recovered earlier this year in a police raid in Chile. Turns out, they had been stolen by a Santiago-based crime ring that’s targeted multiple celebrities’ homes. Thankfully, Keanu’s stolen watches have now been returned to US authorities.

Chilean authorities said Tuesday they turned six valuable watches stolen from Canadian actor Keanu Reeves — including an engraved Rolex worth at least $9,500 — over to the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation, months after recovering them in a police raid.

The FBI will arrange for their return to Reeves, best known for his roles in action franchises like “The Matrix ” and “John Wick.” Chilean prosecutors told reporters that Reeves had identified the watches as those stolen from his Los Angeles home during a string of high-profile burglaries in December 2023.

The announcement was made as the Trump administration’s Secretary of Homeland Security, Kristi Noem, arrived in the South American country for meetings with Chilean officials about transnational crime, among other issues.

Noem was also the victim of a robbery attributed to a Chilean national residing illegally in the U.S., when her purse was stolen last April at a Washington restaurant.

Reeves’ six watches are valued at a total of $125,000, said Marcelo Varas, a police officer from Chile’s robbery investigation squad. The watches stolen from Reeves’ Hollywood Hills home turned up in Santiago, Chile’s capital, when police raided homes and uncovered stolen cars, iPhones, luxury watches and designer purses.

That operation coincided with another Chilean investigation, coordinated with the FBI, into a spate of burglaries by South America-based crime groups targeting multimillion-dollar homes in the U.S., many belonging to celebrities and professional athletes, such as Kansas City Chiefs football player Travis Kelce.

In April, police in Chile announced the arrest of 23 citizens over the string of break-ins. Varas said authorities were still investigating any link between the theft of Reeves’ watches and the other high-profile burglaries.

I am really happy that Keanu’s watches have been found. He seems like the type of person who gives gifts that also have sentimental meaning to him. That whole operation sounds like it comes straight out of a movie. Apparently, most of the stolen items were luxury watches and jewelry, including from Travis Kelce and Patrick Mahomes. I’m honestly surprised that so many of those stolen items were so easily found/traced. One would think that they would have been long-since sold or passed along to third-party sellers by now. Isn’t that how it works with stolen artwork? Do I need to go down a podcast/Reddit rabbithole on this subject? I will always wish good things for Keanu, and I’m glad he’ll get closure now. Also, I think we all know that ICE Barbie is going to use this news to try and get a photo op with one of America’s most beloved movie stars. Resist as best you can, Keanu!

Me too. Their motives seem a bit out there.

But I am happy for all concerned they finally got their property back.

Yeah, Keanu is Canadian so she is definitely feeding him to the gators.

I hope he just has a rep collect the watches. He’s too smart to get used by Trump, Noem, etc.

What is she doing down in Chile, anyway? Getting tips from Pinochet’s old guard?

I know a lot of bad things have come to Keanu, unfortunately, but the return of his watches is good karma. I hope it sticks with him for the rest of his life.

If I were involved in some global criminal enterprise targeting celebrities, Keanu would be on my *never target* list. Like, there are enough vapid, materialistic jerks in Hollywood who don’t even know the value of their own possessions and don’t treat staff with respect.
