WH spox calls Joy Behar & Rosie O’Donnell ‘losers with too much time on their hands’

Talk shows have legitimate cause for concern in the wake of CBS/Paramount completely axing The Late Show to appease Dear Leader. The question is whether network CEOs will uphold tenets of a free and fair press or will they protect their billions instead of their shows. CBS chose the cowardly way, and former The View cohost (and longtime Trump opponent) Rosie O’Donnell is publicly wondering if ABC will follow suit. Rosie posted a long TikTok caption last week in which she expressed concern that ABC recently saying they were “reviewing the liberal bias on The View” was the network laying the groundwork for canceling the show. Rosie also namechecked (once and forever) host Joy Behar as someone calling out Trump for his illegal deeds, so White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers was dispatched to issue a ranting statement that derides both Rosie and Joy as “irrelevant losers with too much time on their hands.”

The White House has taken aim at Joy Behar and Rosie O’Donnell, after former The View cohost O’Donnell shared an impassioned speculation that the talk show would be canceled amid growing political tensions.

When reached for comment on O’Donnell’s post, which referenced Behar, White House spokesperson Taylor Rogers exclusively tells Entertainment Weekly that they feel the pair are “irrelevant losers,” while also creating a new nickname for Behar.

“Rosie O’Donnell and ‘Joyless’ Behar are irrelevant losers with too much time on their hands, whining about a failing talk show while everyday Americans are working hard,” Rogers says in a statement, which goes on to reference O’Donnell’s recent move to Ireland to escape Donald Trump’s second-term presidency. “Our country is better off with Rosie living abroad — and we can all hope ‘Joyless’ Behar will join her next!”

The statement continues, chastising “the mainstream media” while also alleging that the entity at large “is finally admitting that writing off 80 million Americans is not a winning business model.”

EW has reached out to representatives for O’Donnell and Behar at The View for a response.

The White House spoke out after O’Donnell shared a lengthy statement on TikTok in which she speculated that The View would be canceled amid unconfirmed rumors that parent network ABC was considering ending the show over “liberal bias.”

“Because it’s not enough to run the country into the ground. You have to control what people SEE What they HEAR What they think,” O’Donnell wrote in the post’s caption. “And The View? Well, that’s a little too much woman — a little too much truth — a little too much of Joy Behar saying ‘I don’t think the insurrection was a tourist visit, Karen.’ Apparently, the truth is dangerous now.”

She finished, writing, “So no — we do not get quieter. We do not make ourselves smaller, so they can feel more comfortable. We speak louder. We take up space. We stand together and say what is true, even when it shakes the walls. Because the most dangerous sound in the world is a woman who knows what she’s talking about — and refuses to stop.”

I remember watching all of the coverage of Joe Biden’s inauguration; later in the day he was greeting new staff (some in person and some virtually, it was still before most people were able to get the vaccine) and while he was naturally very warm, Biden also firmly said to them that disrespectful behavior towards anyone would not be tolerated. Well, obviously that decency was too good for us. Now we get unhinged sycophants who unabashedly celebrate an American citizen moving abroad to escape a fascist regime, and wish certain others would do the same. Also, good grief, you can tell how they think they’re so deliciously clever for calling her “Joyless Behar,” as they keep repeating it with relish like a pre-pubescent lunchyard bully who thinks he’s made a zinger. And I know this is never of primary (or any) concern to this White House, but it’s just not factually true to say that Rosie and Joy are women with “too much time on their hands.” Rosie is actively contributing to the resistance in ways she can from Ireland and producing other projects. Joy, meanwhile, who’s three-and-a-half years older than Trump, not only still hosts The View but is continually writing and starring in new plays! They’re not just lurching around on a golf course.

This regime can’t help but tell on themselves.

The White House is now a playground full of schoolhouse bullies.

Yep. Another proud moment for the US. I don’t think how DC looks is what will cause the country to lose respect.

I was just thinking how embarrassing this is for any American who still has some self respect. I’m so sorry for you!

There are only two classes left in the U.S.; the Trump bootlickers and us losers.

Wow, why is the WH spokesperson talking about their own administration like that? I mean we’ve all known they are a bunch of “losers with too much time on their hands” since the beginning but for them to confirm it themselves seems really odd. Is this a new era of truth telling for the WH?

And we are not even a year into this cluster@&$* yet! God help us all, especially since it’s clear at this point Congress, Senate (both parties!) and the Supreme Court, you know, the supposed checks and balances to prevent another monarchy/dictatorship, are not doing a darn thing.

I do love that Rosie is SO in Trump’s head though. He’s losing the war of words to a woman, and older, lesbian at that that, and knows it.
