Kirsten Dunst really wants to be in Minecraft 2 for her kids & the money

As an elder millennial, I grew up following Kirsten Dunst’s career. I loved her in Little Women, was fascinated by her in The Virgin Suicides, and mainly saw the Toby Maguire Spider-Man because she was in it. I guess I have Kirsten to thank for introducing me to comic-book movies. Bring It On was a cherry on top.

Kirsten started dating Jesse Plemons in 2016. They have two sons, Ennis, seven, and James, four. This fall, she’ll co-star with Channing Tatum in a movie called Roofman, which is based on a true story about an escaped convict who hid out in a Toys R Us for months. As a part of her Roofman press tour, Kirsten sat down for a lengthy profile with Town & Country. Here are some of the highlights:

Both she and Jesse drive older cars: She had to take an Uber to today’s interview because the babysitter needed Dunst’s car. “I drive a Volvo with two car seats in the back,” she says. “It’s our adult car.” What does Jesse drive? “His family’s old Lexus—with no car seats.”

She has no interest in directing right now: Years ago Dunst—who had written and directed two short films—was talking about directing her first feature, even soft-announcing an adaptation of The Bell Jar. Today that idea feels like a luxurious joke. “Maybe when I’m in my sixties,” she says of directing. “It’s such an all-encompassing job.”

She’d love to be in Minecraft 2: Dunst has a few projects she’s set to star in (including a mermaid story with Anora’s Mikey Madison), and she tells me she has just read the script for Coppola’s next film, which they’ll make together next year. But she’d also really like to be in Minecraft 2, she says, because her kids loved the first one and because she’d like to make a pile of cash. “Maybe I can just make a movie where I don’t lose money?”

Sofia Coppola on Kirsten: “Kirsten makes cool choices. She’s never hokey. She can be fully sincere and in touch with emotions without ever being embarrassing. I love working with her and I know she gets me, and I’m excited for her to be the age she is now… I feel like she’s in her Gena Rowlands age and can do complex roles.”

[From Town & Country]

I am all for Kirsten being cast in a “mainstream” movie like Minecraft 2. Several generations know her as either Mary Jane, the blonde cheerleader from Bring It On, or Amy March, so to me, it’s a foreign concept that Gen Z/Gen Alpha may have no idea who she is. Cast her in the next Minecraft movie! Introduce the youths to her talent and charms! I also love that Kirsten is being honest about wanting to do that movie for both money and street cred with her kids. It worked for Jason Momoa.

While we’re on the subject, it’s been such a long time since Kirsten did a more “mainstream” movie that I just assumed that she’d made enough in revenue and smartly-invested residuals that she had the freedom to do whatever projects she wanted. I’m also not surprised that she and Jesse are both the type of people who drive older cars, and that only one of these cars would be child-friendly/proof. They’re both so down to earth, and I’m rooting for them so hard. Actually, I’m now rooting for both of them to be in Minecraft 2. Let their kids simultaneously learn just how cool their parents are.

I’ve been a big fan for a long time. Recently she was the lead in mainstream Civil War and she was fantastic.

Much as I didn’t really enjoy that film (and the stupid and obvious thing that happened to her character), she was great and I always enjoy watching her.

  2. KS says:

This is one of the celebrity couples I always hope we never hear anything bad about. They seem so sweet together and he always seems to genuinely adore her after years of her dating assholes.

  3. Normades says:

Love her, love him, love them together.

  4. Mc says:

I fell in love with her in Jumanji as a kid. We have similar teeth so it makes me happy that she’s kept her original teeth instead of going Hollywood veneers. I also loved On Becoming a God in Central Florida.

  5. Kimmy says:

Kiki is one of my forever girl crushes. I thought she was just the coolest when I was growing up.

Lance! I always had a soft spot for him on FNL. I hope they go the long haul. Love them together!

I once saw Kiki up close in Paris (in 2010-2011) and she was strikingly gorgeous in person! One of my friends had bumped into her in NYC a few years prior and said the same thing, but didn’t believe it until I saw it for myself.

They were both brilliant in the second season of “Fargo.”

I’m grateful I was introduced to him there where he was a dim sweetheart and not in “Breaking Bad.” My gawd but he was great in his portrayal of a true sociopath.

I love this chic – from Interview with the Vampire to today. I couldn’t be happier that the girl that jumped off the pages in Seventeen and YM got her happier ever after
