Harrison Ford received his first Emmy nomination for Shrinking this year. Harrison, who is not usually nominated for the big acting awards, is making somewhat of an effort to campaign for himself this year. Last week, Harrison sat down with NPR’s Rachel Martin for the Wild Card podcast. The entire interview is hilarious because Wild Card has a very soothing aesthetic and tone, and Harrison’s whole persona is…not that. He does a great job of incorporating his impatient, crotchety old-man schtick into the way he answers while also taking the questions seriously.
Each episode, Wild Card’s final question is the “Memory Time Machine” segment. The guest has to close their eyes and think of a cherished memory and savor it. Harrison was not particularly into this idea, and just as he was joking that his cherished memory, “wasn’t this one,” he was saved by a phone call from Jay Leno. If you think that’s random, then you’re going to totally WTF the fact that Jay was calling about the 3D toilet seat that he’s printing for Harrison.
[Harrison Ford] appeared on the NPR podcast Wild Card with Rachel Martin, which features guests answering existential questions. In the middle of his final quandary, he was interrupted by a phone call from the former Tonight Show host.
“Jay’s printing a 3D-printed toilet seat for me,” Ford explained.
Naturally, Martin had questions. Mainly, why?
The Shrinking actor said that he has a toilet in his Wyoming home that has an “unattractive” and discolored seat. The model he has was discontinued, so Ford tried for years to find a replacement seat, to no avail. Even his friends in the plumbing industry couldn’t help.
Ford had remembered that Leno owned a 3D printer, which the movie star had seen in the comedian’s garage many years ago. The Star Wars actor said it was “really hard” to call in the favor, considering he hadn’t seen Leno recently.
“He embraced the project in a way that I thought I never could have imagined,” Ford said. “People appeared from the depths, out of the shadows, and they got involved in it.”
Martin asked if the seat would be functional or if it was “just for aesthetics.” Ford confirmed that he was planning on actually using the seat.
“This is going to be the toilet seat in my office,” he said.
“He embraced the project in a way that I thought I never could have imagined.” Jay Leno is a massive tool, but this is so freaking funny. Of course Leno would print a replacement 3D toilet seat for Harrison upon request. I think the real question is: Who thinks of asking an acquaintance to print a 3D toilet seat? I mean, it’s very random, but it’s also completely unsurprising. While it’s clear that Rachel Martin did not have this moment on her bingo card, if you had given me 50 headlines for 2025 and told me to choose 24 of them to make up my own card, I absolutely would have picked “Jay Leno prints 3D toilet for Harrison Ford.” It’s just ridiculous enough to make perfect sense.
Anyway, I’m so glad that Harrison decided that he was bored during the pandemic and wanted to work more. If you haven’t checked out Shrinking, I highly recommend it. It’s great, and Harrison’s performance as a therapist learning to cope with his medical condition (link has spoilers) is so, so good. Although he received a Cecil B. DeMille award from the Golden Globes in 2002, Harrison has never won a major award. I would love for him to get some late career acting recognition.
Here’s the video of Harrison’s appearance on Wild Card. I cued it up to start where his phone starts ringing, but just in case, it’s at 30:58.

He is so, so good on Shrinking, and more importantly, really seems to enjoy being there. Acting, I know, but I sense that he really does enjoy that job, that set, and the rest of the cast.
That cast is wonderful and Wendy Malick is a goddess.
This is the kind of story the world needs. I ❤️HF
I like jay leno. These projects keep many people employed.
