The Bluey movie is scheduled to come to theaters on August 6, 2027

It’s been almost a full year since we’ve gotten new Bluey content. The series’ emotional, supersized-30-minute episode, “The Sign,” along with a subsequent surprise season three finale, came out in April 2024. After season three concluded, two sets of minisodes were released, the second of which dropped in early October 2024. I can’t believe that it’s been that long since “The Sign” aired. It truly feels like that was a whole other lifetime ago. The last update we got was that a movie was coming sometime in 2027. Well, fellow Bluey fans, I have some good news and some bad news for you. The good news is that there’s finally a release date for the Bluey movie. The bad news is that it’s not until August 2027.

A release date has been set for the first feature-length “Bluey” movie.

BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company announced on Sept. 4 that the feature-length, animated movie is set to make its theater debut on Aug. 6, 2027.

Released by Joe Brumm in 2018, “Bluey” follows the life of a Blue Heeler puppy of the same name. Bluey lives with her mom, dad and sister Bingo, and the family is always up to fun, unpredictable shenanigans. On average, a “Bluey” episode runs about seven minutes, but in April 2024, Brumm and the team released “The Sign,” a 28-minute-long episode in Series 3. Brumm said in a BBC news release he enjoyed working on this longer episode and a feature-length movie felt like a “natural extension of that.”

“I’ve always thought ‘Bluey’ deserved a theatrical movie. I want this to be an experiential event for the whole family to enjoy together,” Brumm said in the news release.

The “Bluey” movie was written and directed by Brumm and is being produced by Ludo Studio and BBC Studios. It will star vocal talent from the series’ original cast, including Melanie Zanetii as Chili Heeler (Bluey’s mom) and David McCormack as Bandit Heeler (Bluey’s dad). The movie is produced by Amber Naismith, known for “Happy Feet,” “The Lego Movie” and “The Lego Batman Movie,” the news release states.

I hate that we have to wait almost two full years for the movie to come out, but am still really looking forward to it. I also hope we get a fourth season in the interim because three years really is a long time to go without new content, especially content that’s aimed at children, who, you know, grow older every year. That said, my kids will be 13 and nine when it comes out. They’ll probably think they have aged-out from watching a Bluey movie in theaters, but I don’t know about that. My 11-year-old will still stop and watch it if his younger brother or younger cousins have it on. I think that the beauty of Bluey is that it really is aimed at people of all ages. I convinced a very good friend who has no children to check it out, and even she was taken aback by how much it resonated with her. Both of my kids have promised that they’ll see it with me. I’m planning on holding them to that. If not, then Mr. Rosie and I will totally go see it ourselves.

Hi Lala! I’m glad Bluey helped you feel more humane (and I hope your life changing illness has resolved into just life… it gets us all…)

As a parent, the show has definitely helped me navigate life with more of a sense of humor. The writers are so good at putting things in for both parents and kids. And apparently Godmamas too.

It’s always nice to have something to look forward to!

I don’t have kids, but my cat sitter discovered my cats *love* watching Bluey. Put it on for them one day and couldn’t tear myself away. Every single time the grownups play along with the kids’ games, my heart sings.
