Practical Magic 2 has officially finished filming! This enchanting news was announced on Monday by Nicole Kidman, who plays Gillian Owens. A quick recap: Last June, we learned that the long-awaited sequel was in the works. It began filming in mid-July and has a September 18, 2026 release date. Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest are returning as Aunt Franny and Aunt Jet, but Evan Rachel Wood was not approached to reprise her role as Sally’s daughter Kylie. Joey King, who dyed her hair red for the film, is confirmed to be playing one of Sally’s daughters, but there’s been no official word as to which one. Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña and Solly McLeod have also been cast in undisclosed roles.
Nicole’s post was a video of her and Sandra Bullock walking off into the sunset, in character. They were laughing as Sandy broke character to suggest they do a profile shot. They then playfully give a profile, hold hands, and hug each other. The video had the caption, ”That’s a wrap on #PracticalMagic2! Thank you to the cast & crew for all of your magic.”
With a swish of a wand and stir of a cauldron, Practical Magic 2 has officially wrapped production, star Nicole Kidman announced today on Instagram. The Oscar winner shared a short behind-the-scenes clip of her and co-star Sandra Bullock walking away from the cameras on a sun-soaked meadow. Bullock, also an Academy Award winner, can be heard saying, “Profile shot? Let’s do a profile shot,” as Kidman bursts into laughter and embraces her.
“That’s a wrap on #PracticalMagic2! Thank you to the cast & crew for all your magic ✨,” Kidman captioned the video.
Kidman last commemorated the reunion of the Owens sisters on the first day of production in mid-July, posting a video of the duo filming a scene. “The witches are back,” she captioned the clip on Instagram. “Owens sisters’ first day on set!”
Susanne Bier directs the followup from a script by Akiva Goldsman, a co-writer on the original, and Georgia Pritchett (Veep, Succession). Bier has worked with both Bullock and Kidman before, directing 2018’s Birdbox and series The Perfect Couple.
The original film, helmed by Griffin Dunne, was based on Alice Hoffman’s 1995 novel of the same name, grossing more than $47 million stateside. Hoffman has since published two prequels to that book, as well as a 2021 sequel called The Book of Magic. Though plot details about Practical Magic 2 are scant, producer Denise Di Novi told Entertainment Weekly last year it would draw heavily from the source material.
That shot is gorgeous! I know that they don’t shoot movies in chronological order, and we have no idea when that particular shot was filmed, but it does have a very “final scene” vibe to it. I really like that Nicole shared these videos to mark the first and last days of shooting. It’s so nice seeing how much she and Sandy like each other. I think that is worth 50% of the marketing budget right there. I love seeing genuine camaraderie between female co-stars. It truly motivates me to go see the movie in theaters.
Anyway, I’m so excited! How are we supposed to wait a whole year for it to come out? I can’t wait to see what source material they pull from and, although I’m bummed out about Evan Rachel Wood not returning, I’m intrigued about what roles the new cast members will play. I’m just as excited about PM2 than I was for the Hocus Pocus and Beetlejuice sequels. Sometimes, we can get nice things.

I look forward to this! I didn’t know Maisie Williams was going to be in it!
I didn’t know Joey King and Maisie Williams were in this! That seems like great casting. I’ve been hoping to see more of both of them. Joey was great in “We Were The Lucky Ones.”
No Aiden Quinn? I’m heartbroken.
I agree, that is disappointing. I think in the book sequel his character dies though, so maybe they are just sticking close to the book? If not, that’s a really weird choice. Because Aiden Quinn is lovely.
I thought that breaking the curse would keep him alive. ?
Can’t wait! Loved the first movie. If Joey and Maisie are playing sisters I could totally see that, they have facial similarities. Plus, pretty much anything with Lee Pace… yes, please!
Lighting candles that this will be as great as the first one, or at least they get close 🤞🏻. Time for my yearly rewatch!
This is stupid but i’m annoyed – stop telling us about the movie Nicole!
Because i want to see it. And it is nowhere close to coming out.
I did get the original on dvd recently so i can watch it whenever the heck it want to.
You had me at Lee Pace.
