Jessica Simpson on John Mayer: “He gave away my game”

Jessica Simpson Takes her Dad to Letterman

Because we were having technical difficulties for a few hours, I kind of missed reporting on Jessica Simpson’s appearance on Letterman last night. Sidenote: I hate her outfit. Anyway, I didn’t watch it, but I’ve read some of the coverage of it. Basically, Letterman got Jessica to talk about everything, from Tony Romo, to John Mayer, to… whatever. Here’s the video and some of quotes:

Why was Jessica Simpson most upset by John Mayer’s revealing Playboy interview (in which he called her “sexual napalm”)?

“He gave away my game!” the star, 29, tells David Letterman on the Late Show, airing Wednesday.

“Normally you would think that somebody you care about would keep those intimate details to themselves,” she says. “It was definitely compliment … in a way. But I don’t really want people to know that about me. It’s like, I’m the good girl and then that happens.”

Although she says she “was very disappointed by the article” and hasn’t talked to him since it was published, she does say she “will always care about him.”

The star of VH1’s new reality show The Price of Beauty also opens up about her ex Tony Romo, who she says is “still a dear friend of mine” even though they split after two years of dating this past July.

“We’re big Dallas Cowboys fans,” she says of the Texas-based Simpson clan. “I still look at his cute butt in the outfit — uniform!”

So, what went wrong?

“I don’t know,” she says. “You’d have to ask him that. He broke up with me on my birthday!”

[From Us Weekly]

Yeah. Meh. As much as I like Jessica, I do get tired of her sometimes, like when she’s promoting something. Although she’s a sweet girl, there’s such a lack of substance in her, it’s kind of disturbing. But whatever. I’m sure I’ll get over it.

Meanwhile, Jessica’s “special friend” Billy Corgan was talking about Jessica’s ex John Mayer. This came from Billy’s epic interview in Rolling Stone Magazine, which we had excerpts of last week. Us Weekly has published some of Billy’s quotes under the idea that he’s “slamming” Mayer. But that’s not actually what he’s doing. Corgan’s just kind of properly identifying John’s douchiness.

Corgan says: “[Mayer is] trying to destroy his career… Rather than take a year off or change his musical direction, some part of it is irritating his soul to the point where he’s trying to blow it up. Certainly a talented guy, but empathetically, standing on the sidelines, it’s hard to watch someone literally burn their career to the ground speaking as somebody who’s done it.” Regarding Mayer’s specific comments about Napalm McMotorboat, Corgan says: “I think for any person who has celebrity to sort of drop rocks at somebody else’s feet like that, there’s things you should really just keep your mouths shut on. There’s things that should just be left alone.” See? These quotes make me like Corgan more. He’s right – Mayer is being self-destructive, under the guise of douchey misogyny. Now, I think Mayer is also, at heart, a douchey misogynist. But the fact that he didn’t know how to hide it is self-destructive.

    FIRST OF ALL…

Let’s consider the players in this “sexual napalm” game…

    John Mayer…

    Jessica Simpson…

Do I REALLY need to add anything else to that…I mean…JOHN MAYER complimented her on her skills…

Let’s not mix him up with…let’s say…a Mr. Marcus…or anyone who would REALLY know what they’re talking about…

    Jessica…you’re pretty safe…your game (tee-hee) is STILL a secret…

  2. dude says:

for some reason i see the exact opposite. I imagine she wouldnt be good. Apparently, Nick Lachey taught her well.

  3. dee says:

I still say her stylist secretly hates her. Thats the only reason I can think of that she would wear such unflattering clothes.

  4. tiki says:

here’s the chandelier. here’s the burned-out bulb. oh, jess, throw in the towel, go back to texas, find an aging jock, and make sweet but dim babies. you’ve done ditzy to death. it’s time to retire.

  5. Eileen Yover says:

Ok I’m loving the coat. Need it.

I like her…she’s harmless and at least seems to be trying to help young girls with their body images, hasn’t screwed her face up with too much plastic, and doesn’t take herself too seriously.

  6. Hautie says:

I am also curious what happen to her wearing better outfits.

When she was with Nick her outfits were cute and fun. Lots of pretty dresses and great hair.

Now she is constantly dressed in unflattering things with bad hairdo’s.

  7. teehee says:

Couple months back I argued he was disturbed with himself and fighting himself— and others jumped on me to say that I ver-analyzed him.

Now Billy says it and its true LOL Well, now we can see more obviosuly than before, that he really is attacking and hating himself.

  8. Jeri says:

Isn’t John Mayer the one that’s into peeing and/or pooping on his sexual partners!!??

  9. meme says:

i feel badly for jessica. she sure gets shit on a lot.

  10. Sakota says:

I wonder if she’s going to end up like Marilyn Monroe at 36. She’s living on a ditzy persona and wonders WHY men don’t take her seriously.

  11. sashavice says:

She seems down to earth because she’s usually honest in interviews

  12. ThunderC*nt says:

First, Jess looks beautiful. Better than ever. She had a great nose bob early on but the rest of her face is deserving of it.

Nobody who is sexy themsleves will buy she’s good in the sack. You can always tell by someone’s mannerisms. That whole John Meyer interview was aimed at hurting Jennifer Aniston. He singled out Jessica to apply the back handed compliments and she KNOWS IT. Telling you now, if everything about him selling stuff to still be able to screw her was true, he’d never leave her. Neither would Tony. They broke up with her, not her, them. The truly talented never have this problem. The talented have to do the dumping and then worry about getting stalked incessantly. Other talents will recognize this as truth. I wish I could throw out some hints here but it’s not the place. And no, it’s not THAT! I suffer from TMJ and still manage to drive them nuts.

    a whale in fuchsia.
    She should just surrender.

  14. Bonfire Beach says:

I agree with the positive comments about her. I like Jess. She does get shit on a lot. She seems like a person that people just love to hate for some reason and she does nothing to deserve it. She’s honest, real and down to earth. I’d actually like to have a friend like her. She seems like she’d never stab you in the back. Plus I could advise her on the bad outfits and her choice of men.

  15. snapdragon says:

“a whale in fuchsia.” a whale? really? wow.

  16. dude says:

ah thunder C, Jess didnt have a nose job or bob. If you look at picks from her younger days thats the same one. She has the same bump her dad has too. Just isnt as bad as Ashlee’s was. Sorry to say, im 98% sure thats her real nose.

  17. Novaraen says:

She is no whale. The jacket is super cute…but the dress is matronly. The two together clash because of the contrasting patterns on the material. Basically it seems as if her stylist hates her. The way they dress her makes her look heavier. I just wish I could be her friend to help her a bit with her style…lol.

She may be not that bright…but she is okay in my book. I feel for the girl…

  18. juiceinla says:

Love that Billy Corigan shows such actual maturity. I think in the 1990’s it was a touch and go situation because his ego seemed so huge. But I like what he said about Mayer, and Jen in his recent interviews. This Mayer quote just sounds like someone whose been there giving Mayer some advice.

Mayer will never reach the apex of creative genius that Billy has, so he should take the thinly veiled advice.

  19. Jeri says:

She had a nose job. Boob job too, sometime aroung Dukes of Hazard – when her Dad made that crack about her boobs he was bringing attention to the “new growth.” Her boobs used to be real yrs ago when they used to keep bringing that up.

I think she just needs to dump her Dad but I don’t think she will.

  20. dude says:

i highly disagree with the plastic surgery. Her boobs were already pretty big when she was thin…not that she is a little big her boobs are larger now too! Check out some old pics of her before you assume please

  21. bellaluna says:

I like Jess; she’s just a sweet, not-too-bright little girl who’s been used by and screwed out of true love by Pervy Dad. Nick loved Jess for who she was and found her dinginess endearing because he truly loved her. Pervy Dad bad-mouthed Nick and filled Jess’ semi-empty head with ideas about being a big star and being with an uber famous guy, someone he thought “above” Nick; you’ll notice that neither of those things have happened. If she’d been able to break that creepy bond with Pervy Dad, she and Nick would probably still be married and have a couple of kids by now, which is (supposedly) what she’s been wanting.

@ Thunderc*nt – I apologise in advance for the over-share. It’s funny that you mention that, because my hubby has told me on numerous occasions he’ll never cheat on me since he loves me, he doesn’t think he’ll ever find anyone better, and it’s not worth losing our marriage over. (Please accept my apology for the over-share.) And I totally agree: John was out to issue a major dig at Jenn, though I can’t imagine why. He must be self-destructing. Hopefully he does it quickly and completely.

And I do NOT like that dress. It is not flattering AT ALL. On anyone.

  22. toosexy says:

@thunderc%nt I agree, although I really like jessica simpson and I don’t understand why people treat her so badly…but she seems down to earth…but I do agree about the sexual thing, most women who are not good in bed can’t snag em..I do the dumping.

  23. Beth says:

I don’t think the dress is that bad. I think it would have been better if it was white or a solid color. Prints can be tricky. It’s very easy for them to look tacky.

  24. Jules says:

toosexy: “most women who are not good in bed can’t snag em..I do the dumping”

sounds like you should be going for some better guys if you have to dump them all. don’t date beneath yourself–maybe you should move up to the next level since you’ve conquered the one you’re on:)

  25. DD says:

hmmm, I think that is a rather simplistic view tbh. But certainly if you are terrible in bed that doesn’t help matters at all:)
Hate the dress but she seems sweet, at least she didn’t have a public meltdown over this.
Thunderc*nt the TMJ is probably a bonus, I’m sure they are treated to a symphony of jaw cracking noises. (it’s just a joke from a fellow TMJ sufferer)

  26. Andie says:

Did anyone else notice that Jessica’s face barely moved? I think she needs to stop the botox. It’s a little much…

  27. Dani says:

I LOVE that coat shes wearing in the last picture.

    Want.

  28. nAynAy says:

I don’t feel too bad for her, because she knew the type of ahole John was, and yet, she still dated him. I think that she ‘gives her game away’ everytime she talks and gets herself photographed.

Also, what’s up with her saying that she doesn’t brush her teeth?

I do not think she is actually stupid, in fact, I think she is brilliant in the way she can appear to be a total idiot. I believe it is all an act, and she is very good at it. That might be the only acting job she is good at.

  29. Lway says:

STFU Jessica! You must agree that John did some PR work there. you’re generally so fu*king boring – at least now there is some sort of mistery to you. Sssshhh, don’t stuff it up!

  30. Iggles says:

I don’t like her. I think it’s appalling the way she treated Nick. I agree with Bellaluna that Nick truly loved her. Now her “career” is nowhere and she is continually burned by the losers she dated after the divorce.

Sometimes folks don’t realize what they have until they lose it. Sad, but true.

  31. Kim says:

I think she has done great in the face of being with some total loser guys who kiss and tell. She has proved to be far more mature than anyone she dates. She needs to pick perhaps older, more mature men but she has handled the whole John Mayer thing w/ poise and didnt stoop to his level by attacking him for being such a total loser!

If she was a man none of this would be being discussed so I applaud her for sticking up for herself and taking the high road.

  32. I like the way Jessica looks more natural now even better without make-up. When she was with Nick she was alot younger and therefore dressed cuter with different hairstyles. I cannot understand why people call her ass a passed around w….e when you think that she has had very few partners compared to most american women who on average have had more that than 10 sexual encounters in their teens all with different men. Nick Lachey treated her with utter contempt on more than one occasion and acted as if he was the alpha male really arrogant and look how many girls he has been with not to mention the college girl when he was still with Jessica and then to crown it off by Vanessa (look at ME) playing Jessica in the What’s left of me video. I think Jessica is really down to earth and very funny. I think its great that she goes without make up now and doesn’t look as false as she did with Nick. I wish her all the best with her new series. She deserves it. I don’t think John Mayer would have said it unless he meant it He could have easily retracted it by saying it was only to annoy Jennifer Aniston and remember he stood up for Jessica over the weight issues and the Tony Roma jinx scandal.

  33. Connie says:

Jessica is a Cancer; just read Sextrology by Starsky. Seems accurate from all the headlines we’ve been seeing.
