Corey Feldman not invited to Corey Haim’s funeral

FILE: Actor Corey Haim dead at 38
Corey Haim passed away last Wednesday from what his mother said was pulmonary congestion, or fluid in the lungs. He also had an enlarged heart and a reported addiction to prescription pain medication, some of which could have been illegally obtained. Toxicology results from the coroner have not yet been released.

Corey’s reality show co-star and his close friend, fellow former child star Corey Feldman, won’t be at his funeral next week in Haim’s hometown of Toronto. Feldman released a statement confirming that he had not been invited to the family’s private funeral but said that he was in close contact with Feldman’s mom. The Haim family was unable to pay for the funeral, and the bill was footed by a memorabilia dealer who is auctioning off Corey’s things. Feldman is planning his own memorial for Haim to take place in Los Angeles in about two week.

The funeral planned by Corey Haim’s family in his hometown will be short Corey Feldman.

“In the days following my best friend Corey Haim’s death, I have spent much time with his mother Judy, who has always been like a mother to me,” the actor explains in a statement. “I would love nothing more than to be by her side at Corey’s funeral, however, due to their strong religious beliefs and need for privacy, the family has decided to make Corey’s funeral on Tuesday a small private affair.

“Understanding the recent media attention and to be respectful of the family’s wishes, I have decided not to attend.”

The living Corey makes no comment—and the family obviously has no religious qualms—about the Haims’ unconventional ways to afford the funeral. However, he does explain what he’ll be doing in the meantime.

“Instead, I will remain in Los Angeles quietly mourning and planning his memorial,” he continues. “As a sign of respect, I am asking the media to honor Corey Haim by making the same choice. I am working with a few people who were close to Corey to put a memorial together within the next month. At that time, the media will be invited to honor and celebrate the legacy he has left behind, along with friends, fans and the rest of the Hollywood community.”

The folks footing a majority of the bill for the Toronto funeral, celebrity memorabilia site Startifacts.com, tell E! News they were invited to experience the sad ceremony with the family, but declined because they didn’t feel it would be appropriate.

Meanwhile, Haim’s rep says the Los Angeles memorial event will take place around April 2.

It sounds like Haim’s family has some sort of beef with Feldman, who could be pitching a reality show or some sort of “documentary” of his life in wake of Haim’s death. This is pure conjecture on my part, but given that Feldman is holding his own memorial, and that he’s starred in several reality shows, it’s not that much of a stretch. He went on Larry King Live right after Haim’s death and his estranged wife gave several interviews to Radar discussing Haim’s drug problem. Even if Feldman isn’t planning to film Haim’s memorial, the family may hold a legitimate grudge against him for doing so much press in the wake of Corey’s death.

Corey Feldman makes my skin crawl. While I’m sure he is legitimately sad about his friend, I think most of his actions in the wake of Haim’s death are motivated by something other than sadness.

  2. bellaluna says:

Didn’t they do drugs together? I don’t think I’d want my son’s “drug buddy” at my son’s funeral, were the roles to reversed. And his press tour is just disgusting. Get a new gig, Corey. Your “special guest star” status at funerals is getting morbid.

  3. Icecat says:

I would like to know where the eff Feldman was at the time of his death?

If he cut off one of his best friends, and didn’t try to help, I could see how there could be some bad blood. ESPECIALLY because on Larry King, Feldman himself asked the question; Where were his friends? Why wasn’t anyone helping him??

Well Feldman… WHERE WERE YOU FUCKTARD??

  4. ashley says:

we lost the better of the two corey’s in my opinion.

  5. LolaBella says:

Most days I try not to be a cynical person, but seeing Corey Feldman on LKL (Larry King Live)mere ‘moments’ after Corey Haim’s death made me immediately think that he was positioning himself for some sort of reality show to get himself back into the public eye.

Do I think that he is saddened by his best friend’s death? Yes. Do I think that he is out to benefit/profit from it in some way? Yes.

Also, I really don’t believe that they were as close in Haim’s last days as he wants us to believe, IIRC, he and his now estranged wife treated Haim really badly in the last episodes of their reality show.

  6. lucy2 says:

I’m feeling the same way, even though he’s sad, in some way he might be looking to capitalize on this. I truly hope not, but fame is a weird thing.

I didn’t get out of that article that the Haim family has some sort of beef with Corey Feldman. It sounds like they want a small private funeral for their boy. That’s perfectly understandable. It’s good that Feldman is respecting that. I hope he stays respectful and doesn’t try to “market” Haim’s passing.

I think the Coreys were like a lot of best friends, they had their ups and downs. They were not estranged at the time of Haim’s death. TMZ has a video of them casually hanging out together that was filmed about 3 weeks before Haim died (http://www.tmz.com/2010/03/10/corey-haim-dead-died-overdose-corey-feldman-haute-video/). They may have done drugs together back in the day, but Feldman claims to be clean and for some time. At the time of Haim’s death, since it was at 2 in the morning, I’m guessing Feldman was probably at his own home, possibly, oh, I don’t know, in bed, asleep? Just a guess. Just because he wasn’t there at that particular moment doesn’t make him a bad friend. He took multiple stands with Haim about his drug abuse.

Now, having defended Feldman, I have to cop to the fact that I totally agree with ashley…

  8. Stephie says:

When I initially read the statement Feldman made (on his website even) about not attending Haim’s funeral it made me wonder why he thought his presence would incite a media frenzy.

I used to really love him and Haim way back when. (Dream a Little Dream boys) but they’ve been out of the spotlight for so long… ah. Time goes on you know? Sad to lose Haim but I hope Feldman doesn’t think this makes him a sudden commodity.

  9. Dawn says:

WHOA! You’re not invited to your homeboy’s funeral by his family? Damn!

  10. Popcorny says:

I also came away with the impression that his (Haim’s) family wanted just that -his family with no Hollywood hooplah.
Feldman’s closest links have always been Haim and Jackson, so I can’t fault him for being so prominent this year considering both Jackson and Haim died (with Feldman having nothing to do with either’s death).
Also, I would hope that Feldman would do some projects in the wake of Haim’s passing. Who better? And, considering Haim’s tragic journey, could be worthy stuff.
Haim was a huge, an incredibly huge part of Feldman’s life (pretty much all his life), always.
Of course the public turned straight to him, and of course he feels a responsibility and a need -naturally.

I think Feldman’s getting an undeserved bad rap here.

  11. girl says:

I agree with the previous posters. They were supposed to be like brothers but he isn’t invited to the funeral? That sounds a bit fishy. It isn’t like Corey Feldman is that high profile that there would be a mob scene if he showed up at the funeral.

  12. Sumodo1 says:

Famewhore Feldman of course is positioning himself. He’ll get high, fuck-up, get arrested, then get a new reality show based on how his best friend’s death brought him to an alltime low and now he needs to be a better man, for Corey!

  13. Lisa and Laina says:

I have been searching for over an hour to find a site that sees Feldman for what he is. No one should feel sorry for him, he was a horrible friend and now trying to get any attention (work) he can. He was always jealous of his much better looking “friend”. A true friend would never have treated Haim they way he did on the show the Two Coreys. A true friend would never try to capitalize on the death of his “best friend” or speak of him as if he were a pathetic vagrant. Feldman you are a disgusting loser and I hope Hollywood and the public treat you accordingly. To Corey Haim’s family, we are so sorry for your terrible loss our thoughts are with you. Very glad Feldman is not invite to attend the service, he probably would have tried to sneak in with a camera.

  14. Bobby the K says:

I never had an interest in either one of them. But i was just reading an article by someone who used to watch the reality show they were on. She said feldman often put corey haim down, judging, criticizing, feeling superior etc. i’m inclined to believe it, other people have said the same.

Feldman comes across as a user in different ways.

  15. canajan says:

Isn’t it possible that Feldman is not allowed in Canada because of previous drug charges?
The papers here are saying “hundreds attended Haim’s funeral,” so it wasn’t a small family affair.

  16. GatsbyGal says:

Feldman is a faker. I really don’t think he’s sad for Haim’s death at all, I think he’s rejoicing that it’s putting him back in the media spotlight.

  17. tina says:

Posts 17 and 18. What the hell was that?

  20. Bonnie says:

I am saddened if the reports are true that Corey Feldman was not invited to the funeral. If his family wanted “a small family affair”, why did she give interviews stating the address and date and time of her sons funeral?!! I live in Toronto and it was reported that over 200 people were at the funeral. That is heartbreaking that his best friend was not able to say good bye. I think that Feldman was trying to do the right thing when he went on Larry King, if he wouldn’t have people would have been bashing him for that. Let the man grieve for his friend, since he wasn’t allowed to do it at the funeral. Rest in Peace Corey Haim….

  21. lovebrat1 says:

I give my love and respects to corey haim and his family!I am and will always be #1fan of both corey*leave corey feldman alone!!!this is all just media hype*leave corey feldman alone!rest in peace corey *i will always love you…

  22. Tired-of-Fakes says:

I had not heard of Corey Haim’s official death announcement before I had heard/seen Corey Feldmen ALL OVER the media with his crocodile tears…oh wait, that’s right, there were NO tears…. Dude, you made ENOUGH money at the expense of your “friend’s” dignity from that shameful show the two coreys….did you ever stop to think that when Corey saw or heard that HE was the butt of ALL those jokes and you were laughing that it didn’t help, but HURT his drug addiction ? YOU ARE HEARTLESS…if you are a true friend…then DONT TAKE A SINGLE PENNY FROM ANYTHING YOU MAKE REGARDING HIS DEATH…give to his family or some drug addiction charity foundation. then MAYBE, you will not be looked upon as a vultured picking through the bones of your “beloved life long friend”….remember, we all will one day have to face our own demons….who will be talking about you when you have passed ? will they be rushing to the media and making a buck ? or will they be truly crying and hurting over your loss….we all hope it is the ladder and that our short time here, means something to someone…. just stop this….you know what you are doing…this kid suffered enough…. 🙁

  23. Great info, I love all of the opinions. Everyone needs to express themselves freely.
