Jennifer Lawrence and Emma Stone are producing a Miss Piggy movie

I love the Muppets. I grew up watching the animated series and all of their movies. The Great Muppet Caper, A Muppet Family Christmas (”Watch out for the icy patch!”), and, of course, A Muppet’s Christmas Carol were my favorites. The last time we got a new Muppets movie was 2014’s Muppets Most Wanted. That’s the one with Ricky Gervais, Tina Fey, and Ty Burrell, where Miss Piggy gets engaged to a jewel thief and almost marries him until her fellow Muppets step in to save the day.

Good news! A new Muppets movie is in the works, and it’s the first one to give Miss Piggy her very own solo movie. The news was announced by Jennifer Lawrence during an appearance on the Las Culturistas podcast with Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers. Apparently, she and Emma Stone are teaming up to produce it, with Broadway’s “Oh, Mary!” creator Cole Escola writing the script.

After more than 50 years, Miss Piggy is finally stepping into the spotlight and getting the solo movie treatment she deserves.

Jennifer Lawrence recently revealed that she and Emma Stone are developing a movie about the iconic Muppet with Oh, Mary! sensation Cole Escola penning the script, marking the character’s first solo outing since Jim Henson debuted her on The Muppet Show in 1976.

“I don’t know if I can announce this, but I’m just going to,” she prefaced on Bowen Yang and Matt Rogers’ Las Culturistas podcast. “Emma Stone and I are producing a Miss Piggy movie and Cole is writing it.”

When asked if she and Stone will appear in the movie, Lawrence said, “I think so, we have to.”
Lawrence did not reveal any plot details. Deadline has reached out to Disney and Jim Henson Co.

Starting as a chorus pig on The Muppet Show in the mid-1970s, Miss Piggy gradually became a bigger part of the series, before becoming an icon in the late ’70s and early ’80s. Despite Kermit being the star, she’s long hogged the spotlight from her froggy beau.

Recently marking their milestone 70th birthday, The Muppets have had a year of celebrations leading up to the news last month that The Muppet Show is getting a refresh from Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg’s Point Grey Pictures. Deadline reported that Disney+ has ordered a TV event featuring special guest star Sabrina Carpenter to premiere in 2026, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of the classic original series.

So, let me get this straight: Jennifer Lawrence, Emma Stone, and Cole Escola are teaming up to write a solo Miss Piggy movie? Oh my gosh, that is the dream team right there. Talk about three people who are going to understand the assignment. In a world full of questionable sequels and reboots, this is an exception. I am absolutely here for this! Calling it right now that Bowen Yang ends up starring in it as one of the human characters. After the last movie, there was a live-action television series called The Muppets that both of my kids really liked. I loved the Muppets Tonight show that aired while I was growing up. We all loved the different Muppet Babies cartoons, too. They’re generational gems, and I’m really looking forward to what this next installment brings.

Yes she is very annoying and I find her quite exhausting to watch. I don’t know if it’s cos she over acts all the time.
