Catherine Zeta-Jones: “I’m a broad girl, I don’t do diets”

Catherine Zeta-Jones Wears Fur, And Lots of It!

Catherine Zeta-Jones is just beginning her promotional tour for her role in The Rebound, a cougar-tastic romantic-comedy-drama costarring Justin Bartha as Catherine’s (you guessed it) younger rebound lover after her divorce. MovieWeb has a good summary of the plot, but honestly, I think I just summed it up pretty well! It looks terrible in my opinion, and I can’t believe anyone would want to put Catherine and Justin Bartha (the goofy/funny guy from the National Treasure movies and the groom in The Hangover) together. Though I don’t think much of Catherine’s acting talents (very, very limited), she needs to be in films where she can stretch as a dramatic actress, with strong, dramatic male leads. Like Clive Owen or someone like that. I would dig them together.

Anyway, Catherine has a new interview in OK! Magazine UK where she’s talking diets, chocolate and sex (with Michael Douglas, shiver). She’s actually rather funny here:

CATHERINE Zeta-Jones says she gets worried about “super-skinny” women and prefers to keep her curves so she can enjoy chocolate. Actress Catherine Zeta-Jones says she is firmly “against diets” and would prefer to enjoy treats like chocolate and ice cream than go through hunger pains to become stick thin.

She told OK! Magazine: “I find this wave of super-skinny women scary. I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve got to drag myself down to the gym like everybody else. But I look at the red carpet sometimes and it’s like a pageant.”

“I’m quite a broad girl, not at all delicate. I watch what I eat to stay in shape, but I’m against diets. I eat when I’m hungry, three meals a day.”

And the 40-year-old, who is married to 65-year-old Michael Douglas, says her favourite part of being pregnant was eating as many treats as she liked.

She told us: “I ate for Wales when I was pregnant! I had this thing for pies and pastries. And I ate so much bread, I was like ‘bread woman’. I enjoyed it, but by the end I wanted to get back to normal.”

“I love chocolate, ice cream and cakes. The only thing better than sex is sex with chocolate on top! I love pasta and the occasional avocado with prawns. My tip is to allow yourself a little of what you fancy, but don’t get carried away.”

And despite her beauty, the 40-year-old says she still has hang-ups about her looks – even revealing she doesn’t like her world-famous eyes!

She told us: “[I don’t like] my eyes. They look like peeholes in the sand. Hair, make-up, I make the most of myself. You should see me first thing in the morning! Taking my kids to school I have a baseball cap on and I’m like: ‘Why am I hiding? Nobody’s going to recognise me.'”

[From OK! Magazine UK]

Right, she’s 40 years old, remember? And how long has she been 40? God knows. Whatever her real age, she does look good, and I like that she describes herself as a “broad girl”. But I could have done without the “only thing better than sex is sex with chocolate on top” comment. That one made me a little nauseous.

By the way, LaineyGossip mentioned the other day that Catherine and Michael haven’t been seen together much lately. She was interviewed for Michael’s Vanity Fair profile, but they really haven’t been out and about lately at all. Is there trouble in golddigger paradise?

    She’s delusional. She’s not a ‘broad girl’…she’s much more Bobble-Head than Broad.

  2. Lem says:

    peeholes in the sand?

those are the words she actually used?

  3. bite me says:

she does not look good… she used to be one of most beautiful women in hollyweird

  4. kai says:

^^ goes to show hollywood standards.

  5. happymom says:

I think she’s gorgeous (and thin) but she dresses so old!

  6. bellaluna says:

If she’s 40, I’m 25! I read somewhere that she was actually 10 years older than she claimed. Can’t remember where, it’s been years now, but I think it was a long-ago love.

  7. vale says:

What’s wrong with pasta, the occasional avocado and prawns?
Those should all be part of a healthy diet, or did I miss some new trend? Are we just drinking liquids now to lose weight?

  8. ThunderC*nt says:

She is 10 years older than she claims. Her beauty is not natural. All cosmetic surgery. Especially her eyes and original clay nose. Awful Plastic Surgery has the old pics to prove it. I even have an old Allure magazine that showcases her original nose and eyes.

  9. Erin says:

she doesn’t diet…RIGHT. She looks great, but she’s gotta be close to 50.

  10. meme says:

i call BS. CZJ is just as vain as any other actress and diets and has botox and blobbedy blah blah. plus she’s a stuck up snob.

  11. Kaye says:

There is no way that she is 50 years old.

  12. Granger says:

I don’t think she’s bobble-head at all. She has lovely legs, but if you look at more recent pics of her, she carries weight up top, in the arms (and boobs), even around her middle. While I think (as she says) she watches what she eats so she can stay healthy, she clearly doesn’t diet or exercise excessively. Pretty refreshing, if you ask me.

  13. Just a Poster says:

Bellaluna I agree! She is so not 40!

  14. revel87 says:

what a joke! she doesn’t diet?!? she wasn’t as skinny as she is now 15 years ago! these lying celeb beee-atches! always denying dieting, plastic surgery, whatever. pathetic!

  15. lucy2 says:

She’s definitely over 40. Kind of silly to lie about it, especially since she married that old geezer.
I’ve always thought she was pretty and in good shape (not skeletal) but I do think she’s had work done over the years.
Thought she was great in Chicago, but haven’t liked her in anything else.

  16. Aitch says:

Is that real fur in the first picture? If so, she better watch out for PETA!!

  17. bellaluna says:

I think part of the story was that she’s never revealed her true age to her husband.

Yeah, she’s definitely not 40. Those who doubt, look at Demi. She’s not lying about it *that we know of* but she’s denying surgery & photoshop & airbrushing!

  18. Brooke says:

There was a blind item in the last 6 months that was rumored to be about her – apparently when she and Michael Douglas visited the White House there was a kerfuffle about her ID not matching their records; her actually being 50, not 40, and it shocked Michael since he supposedly hadn’t known about it beforehand.

Also – while that fur isn’t to my taste (and yes, it’s genuine mink), I do wear fur myself and support anyone’s right to do so. Suck it, PETA.

  19. The Queen Bee says:

    She is definitely not 50!

  20. Cheyenne says:

I don’t care how old she is, she looks damn good.

  21. LindyLou says:

I did a little searching and everything I could find said she was born Sep 25, 1969. When she has full makeup on, she definitely looks younger – much like a lot of women – so who knows??

  22. N.D. says:

Guys, she started her career when she was in her early teens, you can’t say you’re 14 (she got her first leading role at that age) when you’re 24. She is 40. And she looks her age. Which is good.

  23. Tia C says:

“How long has she been 40?” LOL!! You really made me laugh out loud with that one.

She actually IS 40. At least, like LindyLou says, all I can also find for her birthdate is 9/25/69. I don’t really understand why people think she looks older than that. I’m not a huge fan or anything, but I think she looks her age.

  24. TG says:

If someone’s age is in doubt can’t the reporters just find someone who went to school with this person? It shouldn’t be hard to track down. I always thought she was beautfiful, but with LCD and plasma TV’s many of these celebs don’t look better than me or even worse. Why aren’t I an actor? Ha-ha

  25. NJMDPS says:

Why the golddigger remark? She has been with Michael Douglas for many years and has two kids by him. Plus, didn’t she sign a pre nup that was all over the newspapers? And she does look excellent…..regardless of her age.

  26. celandine says:

She appeared in a very popular UK TV show in the late 80s called “The Darling Buds of May” when she was “19” and I’m pretty sure she wasn’t pushing 30 at the time! She is 40, she just dresses a lot older (and her hubby has surgery) to minimise the gap between them.

  27. Kim says:

It doesn’t matter how old she is, the woman looks fabulous and she seems to really love life, which is great to see. It’s refreshing to read a female celebrity talking about how awesome food is, because food is seriously awesome.

  28. Rosanna says:

Nowadays broad means size 4 you know *grin*

  29. snapdragon says:

seems like she’s been 40 for awhile now.

  30. She-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named says:

The Golddigger comment seems out of line to me as well, although I’m sure marrying Michael Douglas helped her career, at least initially.

  31. piedlourde says:

I prefer Dawn French as Zeta-Jones, actually, hilarious welsh accent and all.

  32. Scarlet Vixen says:

@Revel: It’s completely possible that someone can be naturally thinner when they get older–not everyone gets ‘fat’ as they age. I’m 30, and recently lost over 20lbs that I’d packed on over the years (college, having a kid, etc) completely naturally. I didn’t diet, don’t exercise much more than I did before, etc. She could look thinner now for a million reasons: she finally lost the last of the baby weight, changed her exercise regimen a bit, switched to dark chocolate, who knows. I for one think she’s being honest…

  33. Sumodo1 says:

Folks, this is what MONEY looks like: sable coat, Hermes bags, cloth coats with “dressmaker details,” millinery, gloves and sensible sunglasses. Beautifully done makeup and hair. NOT ED HARDY. NO FAKE-N-BAKE. NO EXTENSIONS OR WEAVES. NO FRIED BLONDE. As for 40? Ask her classmates. They’ve already weighed in on her fudging her age.

  34. lolo says:

If all of you people got surgery and got lots of make-up on (put on by the best artists in the world) then everyone would look great and beautiful.

  35. jane says:

I think she still looks gorgeous, and I think she acts very well. I thought she stole the show from Renee in Chicago (which she won best supp. actress for). She is my hubbies favorite actress. Also, think its great when actresses speak out against the insane size 0 trend. I live in an area where a lot of celebs live and film & I see them all the time. These size 0 women look terrible in person. Women need some fat to have balance hormones and collagen. I have 2 nieces who are anorexic, size 0, and they look older than I do, and we all worry about their health. I would like to see size 6 – 10 become the new standard for beauty or “in-ness”.

  36. benny says:

I don’t know if she’s *exactly* 40, but I’d guess that she’s closer to 40 than 50. I think she just looks older from hanging around with her 80-year old husband, Mr. Peanut.

  37. lena says:

I’m confused as well on the golddigger comment…how did you come to that conclusion

  38. fizXgirl314 says:

Wow, she has gotten way thin…

  39. irishserra says:

I’m so ridiculously tired tonight, that when I looked at “…I ate for Wales when I was pregnant…” I actually saw, “I ate four whales when I was pregnant..”

Okay, okay, in further defense, I had just finished reading the blog about Roth and the Whales. That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.

  40. j. ferber says:

Of course she’s a golddigger. She’s said that her goal was to marry a major Hollywood movie star and she did that. I’m sure she likes the money as well as the perks to her career. Does anyone really think she deserved the Best Supporting Actress Oscar for Chicago? His name and influence have helped her a lot. She loves the lifestyle and is the most litigious woman in Hollywood. I wouldn’t be surprised if we were all sued for even mentioning her name. Enough said.

  41. Emily says:

I don’t care if she’s 70, she’s still hot. I’ve liked her since I saw Entrapment when I was young, and fell in love with her when I saw Chicago. ITA with jane, she stole every scene from Zellweger.

  42. badrockandroll says:

I think that this is another cut and paste from OK, rather than a brand new interview, since I’ve read these quotes before. Either that, or she’s a robot and just says the same things about Wales and pee over and over again. She should get a better writer (and stylist), but she does have a marvellous surgeon!

  43. Scout says:

She is gorgeous and a talented actress IMHO. She is larger than the average Hollywood beauty these days but totally in proportion and lean where it matters. I am not sure about the surgeries or her actual age or her personality but I will say that I have seen her face in those “stars without makeup photos” and if it was real, she is gorgeous without makeup!! Makeup can enhance beauty but it cannot make that kind of bone structure! I think people give makeup too much credit sometimes. Sometimes, it can actually make a pretty/beutiful woman LESS beautiful! We’ve all seen that. Weirdly, I agree with her own assessment about her eyes. If I had one thing to change (and that was my face….) I’d think the eyes if I could. However, I most likely would not have them done…if it ain’t broken, don’t fix it…and she sure is gorgeous just as she is.

  44. RHONYC says:

she looks like she is tryin’ to jack victoria beckham’s swag.

    tsk, tsk

  45. Emily says:

@Scout: you’d change her eyes? Really? I love her eyes, they have such a pretty colour, I can’t think of anyone else I’ve seen that look like that.

  46. Sally says:

She most definitely deserved the AA for Chicago! She blew almost everyone out of the water. Girl can definitely sing and dance.

  47. I’m just commenting to make you know of the beneficial experience my girl enjoyed reading through yuor web blog. She realized a good number of issues, not to mention what it’s like to possess a very effective teaching style to let folks quite simply fully understand specific hard to do subject matter. You really did more than our own expected results. Thanks for giving such helpful, safe, explanatory and easy tips on this topic to Emily.
