The 2026 Oscar nominations came out this morning, in what has been an interesting award season so far. Going into the Critics Choice and Golden Globes, it really didn’t feel like there were much consensus on anything other than Best Picture and Director, meaning One Battle After Another and Paul Thomas Anderson are almost definitely going to sweep those two major categories. But beyond that, people can make the case for several actors per category. Which makes it interesting. There are some surprises in the nominations this year, as there always are. Here are the biggest nominations:

I’m soooo pleased with the Sentimental Value nominations, particularly in the supporting categories, and I love that Renate got nominated in the lead category. That one feels like justice for The Worst Person in the World, where Renate should have been Oscar-nominated for her performance. Love that Delroy Lindo got nominated, love Jacob Elordi’s nom, love Wunmi Mosaku’s nom, love that Wagner Moura and The Secret Agent got so much attention! I actually believe that Wagner is a big contender too.
Some notable snubs: no Chase Infiniti for OBAA, which is disappointing. No Ariana Grande in Wicked For Good (less surprising). No Miles Canton in Sinners (he got a SAG nom, but Delroy took his place). No Paul Mescal for Hamnet, which… I haven’t seen it yet so I don’t know if that’s really a snub, but he’s gotten some other nominations for it. I also think that Jesse Plemons sort of deserved a nom for Bugonia, especially since they nominated Emma Stone.

I’m tired of this movie awards season 😐
Someone on my fB said that Sinners got 16 nominations which is an all time record apparently? If so thats amazing, but I’m worried the voters will feel like they did their part in nominating it and then it wont win anything.
No big noms for Wicked? that’s surprising to me but i think the two movie split was kind of a mistake. I know why they did it and I’m sure box office wise they’re happy but still.
and F1 for best picture seems to be kind of out of nowhere but my 13 year old Verstappen fan did love it.
So far I’ve already seen two BP nominees (some years I dont see any lol) and I’m hoping to make up the gap, even this weekend if we get the snow they’re forecasting here in Maryland. (Sinners and Frankenstein for those wondering and I loved both.)
okay I looked it up and yes, Sinners broke the record for all time oscar noms – previous record was 14 for Titanic, All About Eve and….La La Land (ew. I hated that movie so much.)
all three of those did pretty well at the ceremony so that could be a strong sign for Sinners.
I kind of agree that Sinners might fall into the “The Nominations are the awards” category, but I hope not. It’s definitely got some stiff competition but I hope it wins at least some of their categories (the odds are pretty good, regardless).
I also need to catch up on watching the BP noms. I’ve seen Sinners, F1 (whose nom *really* surprised me), OBAA, and Bugonia (which I highly recommend). Frankenstein is on my list and I really want to see Hamnet, Sentimental Value, and Marty Supreme.
Honestly, i cant stand Emma Stone (I blame La La Land hahaha) so I try to avoid her movies unless I have no other choice, so I’m dragging my feet on Bugonia.
I’m with you on LA La land. It’s so divisive bc there must be people that love it. And I really really did not like it. But All about Eve is one of my all time favorites.
@becks1 I get what you’re saying about LLL but she was incredible in Bugonia, perfectly walking the is she?/isn’t she? line that kept you guessing throughout. And Jesse Plemons was definitely robbed a BLA nomination. I’ll even go out on a limb and say Aiden Delbi should have been a contender for BSA (he gave the film heart). I loved how strange and interesting the film as a whole was. I hope you get around to watching it and that you enjoy it as much as I did 😁
Bugonia made only $41,143,991 at Box Office so surprised to see the love. Emma Stone seems like a cool person but she has a weird picker for roles. The name of the movie alone is off-putting. I also hated La La Land.
I’ll be very surprised if Sinners wins anything major. But it will be total robbery IMO if Coogler doesn’t get best original screenplay.
I’ll bet that’s what Coogler will win, if PTA has Direction locked.
Wicked wasn’t nominated in ANY category. I’m surprised it didn’t make it through for costumes, makeup or production design.
F1 did well in many of the technical categories, which car racing movies tend to do, so the voters in those categories likely are responsible for it making the top 10.
Yes that’s what surprises me! I can see why it missed BP or BSA etc. But nothing for sound, costumes, makeup, design, etc? They were two absolutely gorgeous movies.
It’s nice to know I am not the only one living in a house ruled by a teenager who can’t stop talking about Max Verstappen. I have to eat crow, though, because I told him there was no way F1 was getting nominated for an Oscar. That’s not going to be fun.
So confession: for months, I thought he was saying “matthew stafford” and thought it was weird that there were two prominent athletes with the same name like that and that announcers on tv seemed to be pronouncing stafford kind of oddly. Then i realized what his name actually was and my tween laughed at me for days.
F1 was fine but not Oscar nomination good. I feel like they thought they just needed a popular action movie?
That or LVMH (who is a longterm business partner with Formula 1 racing, and who sponsored the most recent Met Gala) called in some favors. Or maybe just Brad Pitt called in favors?
It’s pretty clear that this movie is a marketing push in the US market by Formula 1, so there are multiple potential vectors for interference. And I think their broadcasting agreement with ESPN is up this year, so they might be looking to goose the numbers with an Oscar nomination for their big racing movie. There ARE 4 Fast & Furious movies in development but they keep getting pushed out (2 might already be dead) and it’s looking like power struggles between the studios and SOMEBODY involved in production is making things difficult, so there’s clearly a gap in the market for CARGOFAST stuff for the foreseeable future.
I’m just here for KPop Demon Hunters. Go, Huntrix!!!!!
I hope they take both categories but I bet the still old academy will vote Zootopia 2 for best animated
I too want K Pop Demon Hunters to win so badly in their two categories! Zootopia 2 was a fine movie and all, but considering my kids still talk about and quote K Pop Demon Hunters I think it is the better movie and a bigger phenomenon.

Looking sadly at Joel Edgerton. Second time he stars in a film with a wonderful performance, gets nominated here and there, except on the Oscars. He obviously didn’t have a chance of winning, but obtaining the nomination would’ve been nice.
So happy for Wunmi Mosaku and the 16 nominations for Sinners.
Fingers crossed for them to actually take home quite a few.
Totally agree about Sinners, I saw it last week finally and LOVED it, absolutely loved it from top to bottom. Brilliant writing, performances, directing…something truly original. I’ll be rooting for it to win everything!

I’m thrilled Sinners received so many nominations. It was my favorite movie of 2025. There were moments in that movie that “lifted the veil” for me.

Trolling Diane Warren with her 17th inevitably unsuccessful Oscar nom just feels cruel at this point.
I try to see every film nominated in every category and every year, I have to track down and sit through some dreadful unknown film because some Diane Warren song from it is nominated. When I saw she was on the short list back in December, I actually moaned – and it’s a film about DIANE WARREN. I will be watching it some time this weekend while doing something else simultaneously

I don’t think there were any HUGE snubs but of course disappointments for those involved (Ari, Wicked) and I’m not mad.
Jessie has this locked up. I would love to see Ethan Hawke enter the conversation and make this a race. Best supporting is really up for grabs. Elle doesn’t have a chance but I’m happy for her and can’t wait to see what she wears.

Once $600+millon F1 was nommed at the PGA, it was a wrap.
Sinners made under $400 million though it was hugely profitable because it didn’t have a gigantic budget. And it was a giant success because it wasn’t an existing IP or animated movie. It’s super hard for an original like that to break through to that level. But I wouldn’t put it in the blockbuster category. Those were all like $700 million and many were $1 billion plus. F1 didn’t even hit $700.

Formula 1 racing is a longterm business partner of LVMH (as seen in the most recent Met Gala, which LVMH sponsored, and had Formula 1’s star driver Lewis Hamilton as one of the co-chairs of the event).
I am so pleased at the Sinner nominations and Kate Hudson! Her performance in Song Sung Blue is phenomenal, the second half is just her and it is beyond gripping. I don’t know if she’ll win, probably not, but she deserves the nomination. Song sung Blue is a movie that I would feel comfortable recommending even if you don’t like Neil Diamond (which is sacrilege!!) Based solely on her performance. It’s that good

I don’t like Neil Diamond’s songs. Sweet Caroline and other ear worms. Am sure he’s a fine human being. But musical tastes are subjective.

I do feel like I have to warn you, I went to see it on Christmas night because I’m Jewish, so a bit of a double joke: 1) my bubby used to have me and my brother’s perform Neil Diamond concerts when we would stay with her (we LOVED dressing up and pretending to perform and she loved Neil Diamond so it’s a cherished memory) and 2) I was having a one up competition with my brother and figured this won over him going out for Chinese lol.
BUT, I was not prepared, like not at all, for the absolutely devastating real life story that is Lightening and Thunder (the Neil Diamond tribute band the movie is about). Like not at all. The movie is extremely sad in a “oh no, this is so unfair, these poor people” kind of way. Yes, it has a Neil Diamond soundtrack, but it’s like having your fav Diamond songs in the background while sobbing uncontrollably.
Kate Hudson is amazing because she gives such depth to the horribleness of what happened…so, just a warning, it’s not a feel good movie, it’s very sad!

That one surprised me too although I haven’t seen that film yet. I was planning to see it tomorrow night. Now I guess I’ll have to go see Song Sung Blue instead.
Her campaign unfortunately started losing steam in the past few weeks. I think the way Searchlight decided to keep it super limited hindered the movie’s visibility. Add that to Hudson’s connections, Amanda got edged out.
George Clooney’s Jay Kelly got nothing, I think that was a bit surprising but I have no problem with that at all
F1 was one of the best reviewed movies of 2025. I think this is the same reason Babe and Mad Max: Fury Road were also nominated for Best Picture.
I’ve seen all the Best Picture Nominees and not surprised by any of them. So very happy for Ethan Hawke, it’s a great performance in a good film that didn’t get the attention it deserves. I know all the buzz is behind Chalamet but I think Hawke, Jordan, and Moura all gave much better performances in much better films. I feel sorry for Joel Edgerton but not George Clooney. Haven’t seen Song Sung Blue so don’t know whether Kate Hudson belongs here but the others definitely do. Jessie Buckley is luminous in Hamnet and Rose Byrne is a force, an exhausted, strung out force. Emma Stone is there for being a good sport who managed to keep a straight face through everything Jesse Plemons was doing in Bugonia and Renate Reinsve gives a lovely performance but not enough to get past Rose and Jessie. So happy for Wunmu and Inga and Amy. Inga gives the best performance of all in the supporting category, she holds that film together but she probably won’t win. The supporting actor race is probably the tightest and most competitive – all deserve to be there although I think Stellan should win.
I now have to figure out when I’m seeing Song Sung Blue, Sirat, Kokuho, Arco, and the Voice of Hind Rajab
Really bummed that SORRY, BABY didn’t get a single nomination – not even for screenplay. I love that movie so much. It deals with such a heavy subject in the most beautiful way. Sigh. I will avenge you, Eva Victor!!!

I’d forgotten that Michael B. Jordan and Amanda Siegfried started together on All My Children and am surprised she wasn’t nominated.
I’m rooting for Sinners to sweep the Oscars with their 16 nominations bc of the numerous temper tantrums that Hollywood threw, and is still throwing, over Ryan Cooglers’ unprecedented deal. Kudos to Ben Affleck who, while recently appearing on a podcast, explained that deal and gave RC much credit and respect. My fear is that the jealous and/or r@cist haters will punish RC and the rest of the Sinners nominees bc they weren’t smart or bold enough to know their worth and get deals like that for themselves. They should be happy for and grateful to RC for busting that door wide open for them to now negotiate deals like that or even better deals for themselves as there’s now a precedent for this. Unfortunately, that’s not how human nature often works, as already demonstrated by this seasons’ award ceremonies as well as past seasons award ceremonies on snubbing worthy contenders that audience consensus strongly indicated should have won. Hopefully, this time the voting members actually watched the nominated movies and cast members they’re giving these awards to.

Personally I think it’s going to be Paul Thomas Anderson’s night, at least for Picture, Director, Adapted Screenplay, Editing, maybe Cinematogaphy and Teyana Taylor’s performance.
I’d really like to see Wagner Moura win best actor but honestly just hope it goes to anyone but Timothee Chalamet.
I feel like so many of the best films deserve it that it would be too hard to be mad over who wins: Sinners, Sentimental Value, OBAA, The Secret Agent… all really amazing films

I didn’t get to see one battle after another yet. Is it really oscar worthy? The commercial for it makes it seem like it’s just another action movie.

I’m pulling for Sinners. Hope it wins Best Song. That scene in the film was jaw dropping.
My 30 yr old daughter is obsessed with Golden. I’m sure it’ll win too. But I think the song from Sinners fits the category better. This isn’t the Grammys. Golden is super catchy but it doesn’t have an impact on the movie itself the way I think the song from Sinners does.
Honestly I was full on expecting that every other award ceremony they would be nominating Ariana Grande and snub Cynthia Erivo so it’s a relief. They shot those films back to back but somehow Ariana Grande’s acting got worse from one movie to the next.
