Ashley Tisdale & Haylie Duff had a kids’ playdate post-toxic mom group scandal

Hilary Duff and her older sister, Haylie Duff, have reportedly been estranged for years. The last time they were photographed together was in 2019. Although there’s been speculation, neither one has confirmed why they stopped talking. Hilary has a new song on her upcoming album called, “We Don’t Talk.” She debuted it in concert last week, causing fans to guess that it’s about Haylie.

After Ashley Tisdale published her essay about breaking up with the “toxic” mom group she was in with Hilary, Haylie very notably “liked” Ashley’s post about it. Haylie and Ashley have been friendly for years, and as it so happens, on Tuesday, they had a playdate with their daughters. Both of them shared pictures of the playdate to their Instagram Stories. Hmm, I wonder who/what they talked about while their girls played.

Ashley Tisdale French and Haylie Duff shared a playdate moment between their daughters on their Instagram Stories on Tuesday, Jan. 27.

Duff, 40, shared a photo of her daughter Lulu, 7, playing under a table with Tisdale’s daughter Jupiter, 4. “Under table shenanigans,” Duff captioned the snap, which Tisdale then reposted to her Instagram Stories.

Duff and Tisdale’s friendship appears to go back several years, with Tisdale even selling her former Los Angeles home in Studio City to Duff almost 10 years ago. Duff purchased the house from Tisdale for $2.7 million in 2016, per Realtor.

The post comes amid the ongoing fallout of Tisdale’s The Cut essay, titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group.” The mom of two initially opened up about the experience in a candid blog post titled “You’re Allowed to Leave Your Mom Group” in December 2025.

“When I became a mom, I craved connection almost as much as I craved sleep. So I did what a lot of us do. I joined a mom group,” Tisdale wrote in the viral December post. “But here’s the thing nobody prepared me for: Mom groups can turn toxic. Not because the moms themselves are toxic people, but because the dynamic shifts into an ugly place with mean-girl behavior. I know this from personal experience.”

Two other moms were tagged in the Instagram posts, including Johnson & Johnson heiress Jaime Johnson. It looks like it was a fun playdate without mom group drama. There’s one picture with four little girls riding bicycles and scooters while wearing dress-up clothes. I wish I was outside enjoying the nice California weather with my kids right now. I’ll be honest, though…when you take into account Hilary’s successful return to the stage last weekend and Ashley’s new product launch next week, it’s difficult to not see Haylie and Ashley both posting about their joint playdate as anything other than a way to publicly send Hilary a message.

A fun/weird trivia fact: As People points out, Haylie bought Ashley’s old house, but three years ago, Ashley bought her current Hollywood Hills home from Jaime Johnson. Do all of the rich people in LA just continually swap homes with their friends?! Anyway, your move, Hilary. Just kidding! I hope Hilary and Matthew Koma both take the high road and not the bait. Remember that he called Ashley the “most self-obsessed tone deaf person on earth.” Maybe Meghan Trainor or Mandy Moore will vague post something.

We used to think petty mean girl behaviour was for middle schoolers. Lol it is Not,it lasts forever. Some of the most shocking behaviour and down right bullying i have witnessed is from middle aged people. It never ends!

    • Miranda says:

Every once in a while, some woman who has made motherhood, and the process of childbirth in particular, her entire personality, will try to shade me for “only” being a stepmom (which, I’m always taken aback every single time that people like that truly exist). But the fact that I never had to change a diaper or deal with these batshit mean girl mommy group dynamics confirms to me that I absolutely dodged a bullet by entering the picture a little later on.

How does Haylie Duff afford a 2 million dollar home?

  3. Jes says:

I thought these were pictures of the same woman.

  4. Amy Bee says:

Thanks to this toxic mom group story I found out Haylie and Hillary Duff are not talking to each other. I think this is the bigger story.

  5. Kittenmom says:

I think Tisdale wants to be in the public eye. And honestly, Haylie is a nobody. Grow up, ladies.

  6. NotSoSocialB says:

Politics have broken many relationships, especially in this second stolen term. I’ wouldn’t be surprised if that played a large part.
