This week, the Princess of Wales already has some events on her calendar, including the Nigerian state visit where she and Prince William will act as all-important chauffeurs. Kate will also presumably wear a tiara at the state dinner at Windsor Castle. But before any of that happened, Colonel Keen had to slather herself in green fabric and turn up to the annual St. Patrick’s Day parade with the Irish Guards.
Back in the day, Kate didn’t have an official/honorary position with the Irish Guards – William was the one who acted as honorary Colonel-in-Chief. But when William became the Prince of Wales, he had to give up the Irish Guards position and take one with the Welsh Guards. So now Kate is Colonel-in-Chief. She’s Colonel Kate, or as I prefer to think of her, Colonel Keen. Kate wore a green coat, green hat and the famous gold shamrock brooch. She added small emerald drop earrings from Asprey London. The coat is McQueen, and I don’t think the belt was originally part of the coat (it looks like Kate just threw it on). Her hat is by Gina Foster Millinery and her books are from Ralph Lauren. I’m surprised that she wore her hair back in such a tight bun.
Bonus photos of Seamus the Irish Wolfhound, the Irish Guards’ mascot. Seamus wasn’t interested in Kate’s attempts to pin shamrocks on him.

More Seamus please.
Always lead with Seamus.
Real. I’m only in this post to look at pictures of that sweet dog. Kate looks fine but that’s a low bar to cross these days.
She looks smarter with her hair up.
She does, doesn’t she? Even if it’s hairpieces, no shame; Maxima would do the same. The irritating thing about Kate is when she insists on looking like “a mouse peeking out from a haystack” no matter the event. So…happy claps for Kate once in a while looking correct for a Royal woman doing her “job”?
And it’s a lot better than the Air Lingus uniform she wore that one year…oh my sides, I couldn’t stop laughing when Irish Twitter roasted her for it
Yes! She really should really stop with these giant hairpieces and go shorter, tidier!
1. Since she’s so shallow, Princess Can’t love for people to look at her back. Maybe there’s a back details so the people can look at her behind.
2. There MUST be a reason for her hair. Today she’s handing things, so she cant keep touching her hair and put it back softly, she needs to move it fast.
3. she doesnt want to have weird photos of her pfffing her hair out of her face, or pics taken with hair all over her face while handling the shamrocks with weird ugly grimaces.
Yeah she always looks better with her hair up.
Can’t wore green blah blah blah. Don’t blame the wolf hound for not wanting her to pin the shamrock on him. Seams Seamus is a good judge of character!
It’s fine. It’s green. It’s long. Shrug.
And definitely a style I associate with her specifically.
Yikes. That coat is fitted and is STILL baggy at the waist. She’s in trouble and needs help.
That coat is made of thick, heavy fabric and yet she still looks as thin as a piece of paper while wearing it. The belt is there to give her the illusion of having a typical adult woman’s shape, as are the shoulder pads and pointless bust darts and extraneous pocket flaps at her hips. All of that manufactured shape and buttoned-on bulk and it still looks like the tiniest breeze would knock her right over.
The weight loss seems to be increasing.
She needed the belt because the coat doesn’t fit. At least not as tight as she tends to like them.
Every coat she owns features a high-waisted belt or high-waisted self fabric. Even when the fabric is plaid, the gathered back is way up high (see: her visit to that Welsh fabric factory). These make her legs look longer.
I like her hair up. Dare I say, it’s more respectful than the look-at-me-I’m-a-doll look? And the coat is fine, and it’s also green. She looks like she’s there to honor the guards and not steal attention, and she did that.
I thought she told the Guards not to expect her every year? She must really have been stung by the 2025 engagement tally, where she did fewer engagements than the 91-year-old recently widowed Duke of Kent. Or perhaps there’s a school holiday coming up.
This is a perfectly fine look on her. Dont love the belt, but generally speaking this is her St Patricks Day look. I like that she paired it with black rather than trying to coordinate different shades of green, which she has tried before and never quite works out.
Poor sausage. working multiple days in a week. wont someone think of the children?!?!?
Only 7 more days until a month’s vacation!
The updo isn’t very pretty. Something about it looks odd. It’s probably a separate hair piece that got pinned onto her real hair. The outfit is the Kate special – boring theme dressing and wrong accessories.
Sigh…
This is a beautiful coat and I ordinarily love when she gets back in ‘military Mary Poppins’ mode but she looks so physically swamped by this coat. She can’t risk wearing those close fitting, button laden, sharply tailored retro coat dresses these days -they’d reveal her as being too thin now when she used to look neat as a pin and just slender.
It’s not having a go at her to wish she would gain back some weight.
She showed up and did the job, not exactly mind blowing, but okay. I do like her hair pinned back for this occasion.
The bit of colonial pageantry annoys me to no end.
This is a regiment that goes by the offensive nickname, the Micks.
I do wish a happy St. Patrick’s, however, to genuinely Irish celebitches and those of Irish descent.
Couldn’t agree more and it’s one of the reasons the regiment is so close to the royals.
I feel like this appearance used to generate a lot of excitement for her and now it’s just boring.
It used to be a flirting opportunity for her, and it no longer is, so of course she’s no longer having fun.
I think this is a good look for her. The updo with the hat looks nice.
She looks nice. Boring, but nice. I have no criticism about this look.
She looks lovely. She always looks lovely. Kate has impeccable taste for her role. If only she would actually play her role, and stop panting after tabloid coverage, she might be very good at this. But she let her personal drama get in the way for so long, it’s too late, really, for her to be anything but an NPC in her job. She shows up, she looks the part, then she goes home to her empty mansion. It’s not the worst life — there are worse lives — but it could have been *so* much better.
She looks neat and put together. The belt is there to mirror the military belts and the pulled back hair also mimics military precision.
She looks much better than usual. Hair up is good – whether it’s a wig, hairpiece or whatever. But can’t help remarking how very thin she is. She is definitely not well.
Finally, she looks like a princess.
For once l like her hat and hair, that belt dear God that belt!!!!
Happy St Patrick’s Day x
