Miley Cyrus, home-owner: “My religion is love, so my door’s always open”

I have a fraught relationship with Miley Cyrus. As I’ve mentioned before, she often comes across a little hyper-sexualized, inappropriate, racist brat. On the other side, I think she’s trying to grow up and become a better, more interesting, most generous and accepting person. Over the past few months, I’ve noticed a change in Miley through her interviews. She’s still pretty bratty, but she’s also got sh-t to say, she seems very open-minded and working her way into being a more well-rounded young woman. All of this, and she’s only 17 years old. Now Miley is confirming to People Magazine that she’s buying her own home, and that her place is going to be “really zen”. Um… but what about Jesus, Miley? Miley corrects the record on her feelings about Jesus too, saying “”My religion is love.” Noted!

When Miley Cyrus first became a huge tween star, her mom, Tish, made her promise one thing: To live at home until she’s at least 20.

“I got out of that!” Cyrus, 17, recently told PEOPLE with a laugh. “I’m actually buying a place. I haven’t moved in yet. I’m still reconstructing and stuff.”

Her mother’s reaction? “She’s stoked,” says Cyrus, who adds that her new home is “really, really close” to her family’s current Toluca Lake, Calif., residence.

“My house is going to be gorgeous because my mom is an interior designer,” says Cyrus, whose new film The Last Song is in theatres now. “It’s like if your mom’s a clothes designer you’re always going to look great. My mom’s an interior designer so my house is going to be perfect all the time.”

The star decided to create “a really zen” space for her first home. “We did all these different things to make it a place that’s so chill,” she says. “Like all my couches are on the floor and I have pillows on the floor. It’s just serene – like my own kind of therapy.”

“My religion is love,” adds Cyrus, “so my door is always open for anyone who wants to come in. It’s a just a loving place.”

[From People Magazine]

Yes, I do think Miley is too young to own her own home. But it’s close to her parents’ house, and after all, it’s not like Miley hasn’t already been living the life of an independent woman for a while. I’ve mentioned this before too – I like that Miley has stopped trying to convince us all that she’s some uber-Christian virgin. She’s fallen in love (with boyfriend Liam Hemsworth), she’s having sex (with Liam), she’s moving out of her parents’ house (I bet Liam‘s moving in too), and it kind of seems okay. It seems real.

Oh, but I bet the decorating is going to be fug.

“My religion is love,” adds Cyrus, “so my door is always open for anyone who wants to come in. It’s a just a loving place.”

Hmm, this sounds kinda wrong. Or is my brain an innuendo-laden minefield.

  2. Sarah says:

You know, if I was a 17 year old star, I’d probably be a bit of a brat too.

  3. Margo says:

    I like MILEY!

Not a tween, I just think she has handled herself very well in spite of all the fame and it pisses me off that Perez Hilton rips her apart every chance he gets!

    Good for her!

  4. scout says:

I think she comes across sort of entitled and smug alot and totally out of touch with what kids who have led more “normal” lives deal with. So, that annoys me, but if you compare her to – say, a Paris Hilton, well, then Miley is doing a great job at being as down to earth as possible! So, for that, I give her credit.

  5. sasha says:

Her couches are on the floor? Ah, that’s where I’ve been going wrong, mine are on the ceiling. No wonder I keep spilling things.

    *******
I’ll be avisiting this weekend Miley!

  7. annaloo says:

SHe’s growing up.. I really can’t hate on her anymore, especially when she revealed why she dropped her Twitter account.

and yeah, 17 is a young age, bu honestly, I’ll bet that Miley has seen more things than some 30 year olds out there have. I’m sure she’ll be fine.

  8. Shawna says:

Looks like the growing up is going to be a rocky road! And, um, I wouldn’t want Mrs. Cyrus anywhere NEAR my interiors! Yuck. Remember her dress at the Oscars? Yeah.

But good for Miley, not going the Lilo route.

  9. Lynn says:

    @ sasha….

you just made my spit coffee out of my nose! thanks for the big LOL!!

  10. Caro says:

Do you really think she is growing up? Well, I am not sure about that. Moving out from home with 17 years is not an adult decision for me. I am 16 and I would never do it. But its her life. Whatever xD

    @sasha: You´re a funny guy (:

  11. kelbear says:

So when is Liam going to move in? This should be very interesting. Geesh I can’t stand her!

  12. Anons says:

“…so my door is always open for anyone who wants to come in.”

translation: my boyfriend is moving in.

  13. Jeri says:

It seems her boyfriend has improved some of her bratty behavior.

As for Perez Hilton, he viscously attacks young women. I quit reading his blog over a year ago because of this. There are a few women that he will kiss ass to & he behaves decently to them but in general, he kisses as or visously attacks. No middle ground.

  14. The Bobster says:

17? Don’t you have to reach the age of majority to sign a home contract?

  15. Emily says:

@sasha, I was thinking the same thing! Do her family stack them on shelves or something?

Also, Tish has a job? Wow. I thought she spent her days trying to buy or make mini-hooker clothes for her 9 year old.

  16. knotstu says:

Does that saying go for her legs too?
    Who likes short short’s ?!
    We like short short’s !!

  17. abby says:

Couches go on the floor? I never knew that… I always kept my couches on the walls. Guess I learn something new every day.

  18. fred says:

We have admired Miley not just for being
pretty or a good singer but for being
a Christian, thats what makes her so spe
cial and sweet and now shes talking about budism. No Christians are interested in promoting another beliefs
and Miley has always said her father is
a Christian and that Jesus saved her so
she should stay with Jesus and not be a
    shamed of Him

  19. Naomi says:

Omg I love miley not in that way but you know !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! lol love peace and respect xox!!!!!!

  20. xMileyfan says:

in her new song “‘who owns my heart”‘ she talks about what (creation) tells her to do and as a Christian I don’t think that’s uhm right to say. In her latest music videos girls are rubbing up on her. so yeah great role model…

  21. LOL! Miley is soo cool! Totally love her! 🙂

  22. I admire Lady GaGa. I believe she will be around for a long time. Did you know that she gets many of her outfits at a consignmet shop? Ya, she really does! I dig her clothes. Of course, she doesn’t get all of her clothes at thrift shops, but a lot of her stuff is old clothing. She looks great regardless of where she buys her clothing!
