There are four movies in the rebooted Ocean’s Eleven franchise. We have the three Soderbergh movies – Ocean’s Eleven, Twelve, and Thirteen – and Ocean’s Eight, the 2018 spinoff with Sandra Bullock, Anne Hathaway, Cate Blanchett, and Mindy Kaling. The last movie did well at the box office and I suspect that it may have gotten a sequel if not for the pandemic because its stars were apparently interested in doing one.
If you’re a fan of the Ocean’s movies, then I’ve got some great news for you. During the Warner Brothers presentation at CinemaCon, executives announced that we’re getting another one. It’s a prequel set in the early 1960s that’s being produced by Margot Robbie’s production company. Margot will star in it and Bradley Cooper is on board to write, direct, and co-star. They will play Danny Ocean’s parents.
Bradley Cooper has officially lined up his next directing gig, taking the helm of the upcoming Ocean’s prequel, which he will also star in alongside Margot Robbie.
The news had long been in the ether, and during Warner Bros.’ CinemaCon presentation on Tuesday, studio heads Mike De Luca and Pam Abdy confirmed the news. The film does not yet have a title, but has been dated for June 25, 2027. Cooper — who most recently directed Is This Thing On? — will also produce alongside Robbie’s LuckyChap banner.
Robbie also made a virtual appearance earlier in the presentation, telling the Las Vegas room, “Before Danny Ocean ever stepped foot in Vegas, two masterminds taught him everything he knows: his parents. You’ll see them in all their prime in our new movie, pulling off an epic heist at the 1962 Monaco Grand Prix.”
As far as the Ocean’s movie, Lee Isaac Chung had previously been attached, but departed last month due to creative differences. A joint statement from Warner Bros. and LuckyChap released at the time read, “Lee Isaac is a singular filmmaking talent whose vision and partnership have been invaluable to Warner Bros. and LuckyChap throughout this journey. Our experience with him has only deepened our enthusiasm to collaborate on future projects together.”.
This will be Bradley C’s fourth time directing a feature film, and third time writing and starring in one. I don’t hate him as a director. I really liked his take on A Star Is Born. That could also be because of Lady Gaga, though. I don’t know if we need a new O11 movie, but sure, why not? Margot’s involvement gives me hope that it’ll be good. I’m going to place this one in my “hesitant, but hopeful” category.
These types of heist movies are right up my alley. I loved Ocean’s Eleven when it first came out and am sad that I can’t really enjoy it anymore because of the whole Clooney/Pitt of it all.

I totally agree with loving the movie but now can’t enjoy it because of the Clooney/Pitt of it all…
Same!
Ditto!
Ryan gosling dropped out of this due to schedule as they all say. But I can see Bradley cooper more in the role as Danny Ocean’s dad. There’s something weasel-y about him.
Honestly this could go either way — I sort of feel like they’d be better off making a heist movie that wasn’t attached to the Ocean’s 11 series tho
