Prince William & Kate interrupted their vacation to tweet about QEII

I wondered if we would see the Prince and Princess of Wales at any point this week, but it’s looking like they’re still “on vacation.” Their spring break began two weeks before Easter, and it’s looking like it will extend two weeks past Easter. I strongly suspect that they traveled somewhere outside of the UK, maybe to their favorite borrowed ski chalet in the Alps. Still, it’s yet another one of those moments where their absence from public view is notable – today would have been Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday. King Charles and Camilla cut their holiday off on Monday to visit the QEII exhibition at Buckingham Palace. Charles also made a video address honoring his mother’s life and legacy. But William & Kate are still in the wind, and their social media team tweeted this:

They didn’t even sign it!! They always add “W” or “C” when it’s a personal message from one of them. Tell me the lazy duo are on vacation without telling me they’re on vacation. Probably incommunicado as well, so this is just something their staffers threw up. I’ve said before that Prince William’s big plan for his kingship is “never showing up anywhere in-person and he’ll just tweet about it.” Why honor his grandmother when the future king is day-drinking in a chalet?

I’m including Charles’ video address below, as well as the latest YouGov emotional-support poll. Why do they keep including the Sussexes in their sad polls? And why aren’t they including poor Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh?

Don’t you love statistics? The 2 most popular royals are the dead ones.

  2. Lala11_7 says:

Everytime I see those BS polls…I’m reminded of the MANY scenes in the Crown series showing the 🇬🇧 Royal Family members daily pouring over the newspapers to see if they got favorable coverage for doing basically nothing…what a WAY to exist 😱

I really want to see how these polls are constructed. I want to know the number of people, the demographics, the questions. I think its a big farce.

    • Me at home says:

YouGov won’t tell you on their website much about how their polls are constructed. Except we know they’re proprietary. Also YouGov never gives any confidence intervals, margins or error, or other measures of statistical validity for their BRF polling.

So seems pretty clear that people were filtered with, “do you support the monarchy?” And then just the remaining group of pensioners and royalists got to answer the questions.

  3. Neeve says:

They really just pretend to do a bunch of busy work then shamelessly disappear. Did the Middletons pretend to like Mustique to convince William that they are posh? That seemed like Princess Margrets hideaway.

But something, something, disrespect Harry and Meghan.

Apparently the Queen would have been so disappointed that Harry and Meghan went to Australia met with victims of a terrorist attack, met with children undergoing treatment for severe illnesses, visited war memorials, and experienced indigenous art, but would be A-OK with the PPOW tweeting Happy Birthday, when the last actual work event ( not church) they did was over a month ago.

  5. Jais says:

I think went to a reception at BP today so they’re back from vacay.

  6. Chrissy says:

Is Kate is going to consider the tweet as work?

    • Me at home says:

Betting she does. But that would show some neck given that the lack of a “C” pretty much means their staff put it out while they were reclining on deck chairs.

  7. Jay says:

Why are they polling on Andrew? Is it a way to make the rest of them look better? And why include the Queen, Philip and even Diana?

    • Debbie says:

I was thinking that too, so for that matter why not include Fergie — after all, she was divorced too. It just seems that the names were so randomly chosen. At this point, I’m for including the poor yorkies (the dogs, I mean).

  8. Becks1 says:

They were clearly ordered to appear at a reception today at BP or WC, so they must not be happy.

It’s fine to commemorate the late queen, but it also screams “you used to love her so much, you should love us just as much!!! we’re just like her!!!”

    in others words….it screams desperation.

  9. Lauren says:

Best part of this poll, how many more answered ‘Don’t know’ for Edward, especially when compared with everyone one else in the poll

  10. Over it says:

Don’t know if anyone saw my message yesterday but these two lazy as they come folks kids are back in school. So Willy and kitty are just lying around their many houses doing f all for more weeks of paid vacation. Summer will be here before you know it and their children will be off again, not to mention in another 6 weeks they get another school holiday. At this point we might as well accept that Willy and kitty main job is vacation. They are the vacationers . And imagine their office posting a picture and message of the late queen who was dedicated to a life of service as her grandson and his wife continue their 20th vacation so far for the year. You couldn’t make this shit up

  11. YankeeDoodles says:

Did they actually write, “Inspiring generations through a lifetime of duty” from the deck of a yacht? Or a chalet in the Alps? Or a couch, recumbent, after 9am? …..LOSS OF IRONY alert. Man, I thought England was the wellspring of irony. I guess not. Pity.

    • Lady Digby says:

Whilst rolling a martini olive in his mouth and drowning another vat of wine, PoW solemnly paused to murmer something about granny ‘s obsession with a life of public service!! This chump takes so much and gives back so little!! This particular PoW believes that only fools and horses work!
