Prince William & Kate skipped the QEII memorial but attended a palace reception

Whoops, I was wrong. I said earlier that it looked like the Prince and Princess of Wales were simply going to tweet about Queen Elizabeth’s 100th birthday. I thought they were still on vacation somewhere in the Alps. But no, they showed up at Buckingham Palace today for a reception honoring QEII. Interestingly enough, William and Kate skipped the memorial service at the British Museum in London earlier in the day. Many family members attended that service, including King Charles, Camilla, Prince Edward, Sophie, Sarah Chatto and the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester. William and Kate are never beating the “you can’t schedule anything before 3 pm, they need to sleep it off” allegations.

People Mag says that Kate wore the late queen’s three-strand pearl necklace at this palace event, but I think the necklace is actually the one Kate purchased for herself? I honestly don’t know- all three-strand pearl necklaces sort of look alike to me. Her dress is Emilia Wickstead, and all of her Wickstead dresses look alike to me too! So I don’t know if this is new or old.

Anyway, Will and Waity are back to work! Poor sausages will need another vacation after this. Updated to add more photos!

Her hands in that top picture. What on earth is she expressing?

I use my hands a ton when I talk so I’m sure that I would look similar in photos 😂

Also – I’ve had my facial expressions called both ALL CAPS and an exclamation point. I just say my face is loud. Everyone knows what I’m thinking. Whether I want them to or not 😂🤣

  2. M says:

The color of Buttons’ dress does nothing for her, and the style is very old lady. The wiglet is unblended yet again. Peg looks to be drinking a Bloody Mary. Guess you can’t get hungover if you just continue drinking.

  3. Sandra says:

I actually like the dress tho’ not sure about that color on her. Hate the pearls! Really don’t like pearls in general but those are horrible with that dress!

    • jenjamtx says:

The pearls are too long! Unless you are 90 years old. She would look a bit more modern if they were right at the neckline.

    • QuiteContrary says:

I love pearls, but in modern settings (I have one large pearl, for instance, on black cord — it’s fab). Kate just dresses like she’s 80 years old. She’s cosplaying QEII here.

      • AnnaG says:

If I may add – dresses like an 80yo, yet simultaneously childlish. She poses like my 8 yo, and this super long curls, jeez, arrested development in its finest.

    • Anare says:

I agree the pearls look goofy on Kate but that is her lazy way to try to show she is honoring the old Queen. I don’t think those are QEII’s pearls either. I recently saw a pic of Anne wearing her Mother’s pearls and they looked very appropriate and nice on her. I hope she took them for herself.

  4. Eurydice says:

She’s had several dresses with wonky bust shaping, but I don’t recall this particular brand of wonky. I like the color and she looks good in the pic with Edward and Sophie. A shorter necklace would have suited the dress better – and is there a side-part wiglet going on here?

    • Jais says:

Yes, I like the color but I don’t like the necklace with that dress but otherwise it’s fine.

    • Becks1 says:

yeah this is a fine line, lol – she has other Wickstead dresses in this color that are similar to this one but not exact, so I think this is new, at least new to us. I feel like this dress would have been pretty on Easter with a pretty coordinating coat on top.

The necklace doesn’t work with that dress – I dont know if those are QEII’s pearls, they might be, but they’re not the ones she wore on a regular basis.

    • seaflower says:

Well Meghan did a side part in Australia, so Kate had to do a side part (living wiglet that looks like its about to crawl off her head) too.

  5. SgtPepper says:

Is it the pearls, the dress design, the color of the dress, or her hair that I just hate? This outfit is horrendous. So much money to look this bad. I’ll never understand!

  6. Gemini says:

    Holy Boob Darts!

  7. You can count on the bald demon to show up for events with drinks so there he is!!

  8. Nic919 says:

I’m guessing the pearls were the ones from the queen only because Kate always does the obvious and wearing the pearls is one of those dumb sweet nods she would do for something commemorating the queen.

Someone needs to tell her that the extra long hair does nothing for her. She could trim 6 inches (and wear shorter extensions) and it would look much better.

    • Bqm says:

She could’ve worn tasteful diamonds (April birthstone) or a daisy emblem or dress in sweet pea (birth flowers) and it would’ve been a sweet nod.

  9. YankeeDoodles says:

I have no beef with Kate’s fashion, there’s always something a little bit try-hard about it, but it’s not objectionable, more like underwhelming. But they skipped the memorial service???? JFC.

  10. Hypocrisy says:

She looks rough…but she always does in unedited photos nowadays. When is someone going to get her help because she is literally disappearing right in front of everyone, is it really going to take Waity collapsing in public before the BRF addresses her very obvious issues.

    • Me at home says:

You’re probably right, it will take her collapsing in public before anyone helps her.

Her shoulders are so out of proportion to her waist–I saw a picture of her from behind today, and it’s frightening. And yes, those boob darts would look a lot better with something underneath, so maybe Carole or whoever is dressing her needs to start thinking about padding.

    • Bromptonviewer says:

This. I know a few people who were normal weight/skinny who went on GLP-1s and lost so much weight that they literally can’t stand for long periods of time anymore. One friend is especially sad because she used to be this ultimate museum girl and she stopped doing patron tours because she physically cannot stand for 1.5 hours. I wonder if that’s why Kate skips some events.

      • GTWiecz says:

I wouldn’t be surprised she’s on GLP-1 in high a dose because she has the Mounjaro face. I’m seething too many celebrities and influencers looking like this now,

    • Nic919 says:

There is a bandage on her right thumb in some of the photos today.

      It’s not the first time.

  11. LizB says:

Her outfit with those pearls looks like something my 102 year old grandmother would wear.

  12. Blujfly says:

I figured they would pull a stunt like this; the children go back to school tomorrow. They’re both sun kissed – Kate’s neck is super tan.

    • Nic919 says:

I noticed that in the group photo. They were both more tan than the rest of the family. Likely a trip to Mustique right after Easter service.

  13. SussexWatcher says:

Obviously she could have had the length adjusted, but those don’t look like the same pearls compared to today’s other post about QEII giving the Sussexes “everything.” The ones Lizzie is wearing in that post are much shorter and (the pearls) look slightly larger too. My vote is not the same necklace. Keen has always had to procure her own jewelry, so I’m guessing that’s what she did here and would also guess they’re costume.

    • Me at home says:

Yes, Kate could have had QEII’s neckace shortened, but why bother when you already have umpteen strands in different lengths?

The only way I can tell pearl strands apart is by the clasp–does the clasp have gems or not, is it fishhook or something else? It’s probably just me, but I inherited maybe four pearl necklaces and I kinda wish pearls would come back again, lol.

      • BeanieBean says:

It tried pearls when I was younger–highly influenced by Coco Chanel–but they always felt too old-lady-ish to me. Now that I am an old lady, I still don’t want to wear them.

  14. Elly says:

They both look so strained and awkward in that first photo. Being somewhat agoraphobic especially in large group situations, I can empathize with them but what I don’t understand is why oh why didn’t they realize what a gift from God that Harry and Meghan were? There was a reason people started calling them the Fab Four. They would have been an excellent team. They could have sat back all benevolent and kingly while H&M represented them and interacted with the public. As the old saying goes, they cut off their nose to spite their face. They can utilize all the rags and bots they want but that doesn’t change the reality that they made a huuuge mistake. Harry and Meghan are better off so they did them a favor.

  15. aquarius64 says:

So the Waleses decided to come to “work” huh? The left behinds are still using QE2 to polish the House of Windsor’s rep. Liz’s own legacy is tarnished because of the £12M payout to protect Andrew. Getting out a ouija board to put words in QE2’s mouth regarding her alleged feelings about Meghan smells of desperation from the BRF.

  16. Lianne says:

She’s definitely cosplaying the Queen in that whole get up

  17. YankeeDoodles says:

As a casual observer, with no expertise whatsoever, I would guess the pearls are real. She wouldn’t wear costume jewellery. They could easily have belonged to the late Queen, in fact, she might have left them to Kate in her will. That would have been thoughtful and much like her, she wan’t sentimental but she was very methodical in the way she considered other people. I think the three strands she’s wearing in these photos can be paired with a double-strand to make five and that is how she has worn them on other occasions.

    • Lauren says:

The Queen didn’t leave Kate anything. She didn’t even want her there on her deathbed. If Kate had gotten left something- she would’ve screaming so all over the media, as is Kate’s true style.

    • BeanieBean says:

My understanding is those pearls Kate bought herself at the antique shop or whatever it was were fake pearls. High-end fake pearls, but still fake.

  18. Over it says:

How do these two look so exhausted and like old leather after being on vacation for so long ? If we didn’t know any better we could be fooled into thinking that they clean their own houses, cook the food , do the laundry, chopped the wood , cut the grass. Go grocery shopping. I know they don’t do any of these things so why do they look like this ?

  19. Tuesday says:

Kate got some sun. William looks miserable. Her dress is badly tailored. They all look drab and depressed and depressing.

  20. Lady J says:

I actually love the outfit, but she is terrifyingly thin. I saw the picture from the back, and her shoulders are so wide compared to her hips. In fact, her hips are barely bigger than her waist. She appears to desperately need help.

    • Kat says:

She is deliberately starving herself, because she really believes that the thinner she gets the more elegant she looks.

  21. Me at home says:

Sophie and Anne look healthy and seem to be dressing in their own styles.

  22. Reign says:

The neckalce is too long to be QEII’s.

  23. tamsin says:

I think Kate looks nice in the pictures where her face and hands aren’t in a maniacal pose. She looks good when she just has a natural smile and her hands aren’t clawing the air. I think Kate looks good in the dress, and it’s very much her style. I like the length of the pearls because fits nicely into that neckline and front details of the dress. I think a shorter triple strand would melt into the neckline and just look busy instead of standing out. It seems to me that the Queen’s signature three strand pearls were a shorter length. There must be many triple strands of pearls in the royal vault, so I would guess that what Kate was wearing came from there?

    • GTWiecz says:

I prefer a shorter length dress, like Mary of Denmark and Brigitte Macron wear. Hitting the knees. Showing more of her legs.

    • HuffnPuff says:

She’s come up with new jazz hands! Clawing jazz hands! Amazing! Seriously. She looks like she’s on some major uppers.

  24. Amy Bee says:

Kate’s dress is new but she has a similiar dress in the same colour and also this exact design in black. The pearls she’s wearing is the ones she wore in the run up to the Queen’s funeral. The necklace she bought is a five strand pearl necklace.

  25. Tessa says:

Only part of the forehead above her eyebrows shows wrinkles, and her using those hands to speak looks so bad. Someone needs to be hired to help her appearance and how she interacts with people.

  26. Mads says:

You can clearly see the left side shoulder pad has slipped out of position in the group photo and it makes me wonder how skeletal she really is. I’ve seen a rear perspective of her talking to someone at the reception on a video and she is alarmingly thin.

I’d love to know if there’s any alcohol in Willy’s tomato juice.

    • BeanieBean says:

You know there is. And he’s the only one with a glass! He cannot function–in the daytime!–without booze. That is not good.

    • Beverley says:

Once he ascends the throne, the Firm will do everything possible to keep this fact (that Pegs is an utter lush) under wraps. He will be protected to the enth degree. They will demand that we ignore our own “lying eyes” and accept the narrative that Pegs ISN’T three sheets to the wind at any given moment.

    • jais says:

I can’t believe he’s carrying around tomato juice? He’s gotta know that everyone will assume it’s a Bloody Mary.

  27. Christabel says:

That colour is gorgeous on Kate

  28. Beech says:

I was looking at pictures of Diana post divorce. She looked great, vibrant and stylish in wonderful suits and belted sleevess sheaths. Professional and adult. Conversed with everyone stars of all professions, a Chicago hotel elevator guy, a movie star’s cleaning lady . . . You never saw her in a coat dress. Or dress coat, whatever. KKKate is a stiff w/o a clue.

  29. Sarah says:

My GOD they look rough. Both so gaunt and disheveled.

  30. BeanieBean says:

I’m glad to see Princess Alexandra (I think that’s her) and the Duke of Kent get to sit for the group photos. I still remember one group photo where Sophie & I think Ed are propping her up. Let the old folks, the impaired folks, sit!

  31. Cathy says:

    Look 👏 at 👏 me 👏 I’m 👏 so 👏 animated 👏 … Kate Middleton

  32. Samipup says:

Pegs enjoying a Bloody Mary I see, lol.

  33. Kate says:

That group photo is bleak. They all look so old and worn out from doing nothing, they have been on vacation! By time William is king, it will just be four of them. This is the great monarchy that Harry and Meghan are putting at risk by doing charity work ?

  34. jferber says:

Well, at least there was food at the reception. Oh yeah, Kate doesn’t eat.

  35. Jane says:

The Queen’s necklace has larger pearls, it’s more ivory than white, and it’s shorter. Not her necklace at all, unless they modified it a lot.

  36. Frannie says:

Oh look, they’ve spent the last couple of weeks in Mustique. Nice tans, WanK.

  37. Anare says:

Kate looks psychotic! What is up with the demon hands? And her hair is so bizarrely styled. Lord help me! I don’t know if it is just that hideously frumpy dress or what, but she looks more painfully thin than ever. Is she side-eying W for talking to Sophie? Yikes on all accounts.
