Did you expect the Wales kids to come out for Peter Phillips and Harriet Sperling’s D-Day wedding? Some royal commentators suggested that Prince George and Princess Charlotte would come out for the wedding, but I thought they probably wouldn’t. Given how many kids were there, though, it does seem odd. Obviously, Peter and Harriet’s daughters were in attendance (they were bridesmaids), and Zara Tindall brought her daughters (Peter’s nieces) to the wedding. Prince Edward and Sophie also brought their son James. So… why weren’t the Wales kids included? We’ll never know, but People Magazine pointed it out, and they seem to suggest that maybe the Wales kids skipped the wedding because they’ll be on display this coming weekend for Trooping the Colour.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis are likely gearing up for their next royal outing. Kate Middleton and Prince William attended the June 6 wedding of his cousin Peter Phillips to Harriet Sperling, along with other members of the British royal family, including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Beatrice, Princess Eugenie and more.
While there were some children in attendance, including Peter and Harriet’s daughters from previous relationships as well as Peter’s nieces, Mia and Lena Tindall, the Prince and Princess of Wales’ three kids did not join the wedding festivities.
Although they missed the family gathering at the wedding, it’s likely that there’s another royal event on the calendar for Prince George, 12, Princess Charlotte, 11, and Prince Louis, 8. The trio will likely join their parents at Trooping the Colour, the annual public celebration of the British monarch’s birthday, taking place on Saturday, June 13.
Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis regularly attend the event, including riding in a horse-drawn carriage through the streets of London and giving a wave from the Buckingham Palace balcony.
George, Charlotte and Louis have grown up alongside Peter’s two daughters: Savannah, 15, and Isla, 14. Royal cousins Peter, 48, and Prince William, 43, grew up attending events together, like spending holidays with family. Now, their children are growing up together — including memorable moments like Savannah and Prince George goofing around during Trooping the Colour in 2018.
Joe Little, managing editor of Majesty magazine, previously told PEOPLE, “There is a closeness with the Phillips’ kids, which is great to see. William and Peter Phillips were close when William was a teenager, and that has continued into the next generation.”
Prince William previously said that one of his favorite parts about the holidays is seeing George, Charlotte and Louis come together with “my cousins’ children.”
“For me, generally, bringing the family together at Christmastime is always lovely because we’re quite spread out doing our things a lot of time throughout the year. We get very few moments to actually come together,” he said. “When I see my children meet up with my cousins’ children, and they all have a wonderful time playing together, it’s very special. I look forward to that a lot.”
The promotion of “the Wales kids play with Peter and Zara’s kids” is for an audience of one: Prince Harry. The same Harry who, back in the day, dreamt of raising his children alongside William’s children. That was before everything went to hell. And once again, Will and Kate accidentally ruin the keen lies about how everyone gets along perfectly without the Sussexes – if the Wales kids were truly friends with their second cousins, why not bring them to Peter’s wedding? It’s not like Peter and Zara’s kids will be included in Trooping the Colour, remember? That was the whole point of King Charles and Prince William’s unhinged hissy fits over the all-white balcony: only “working royals” are allowed on the balcony. No Zara, no Peter, none of their kids.

So, Trooping the Colour continues to be in June for King Charles just like it was for Queen Elizabeth. And yet, back in 2023, it was mysteriously held in May (6th to be specific) for Chucks 1st trooping? I wonder why (rhetorical question)?
That was the coronation.
Thanks for the correction. But my point still stand, because picking that date for the coronation was definitely done on purpose!
Jesus. I’d forgotten about that white lapel look on Kate.
Some day, someone is going to spill about the bts of these years and it’s going to be both unsurprising and shocking to hear. There’s so little healthy modeling going on in this family publicly, and I seriously doubt that they’re better behind the scenes. Like, the big secrets aren’t going to be that Charles actually read to his grandkids every night and that all of the adults had a deep faith and restorative justice practice.
I agree. The big ‘secrets’ include the real source of the Middletons ‘ money and their calculated entrapment of William. Also, there must be some kind of weakness in William that made him exploitable.
Robert Lacey once observed that the whole fun of the balcony was picking out who was who — who was the blonde in the pink hat, who was the brunette in the blue hat, etc. — and that was the fun, for the public, but also, one imagines, for the family. Playing favourites is a tricky game because it begs the question, what if someone else is the favourite, and not the man who would be a solo artist? What if someone else is more popular? It sets up a rival dynamic. Having everyone in the gang was a much savvier style.
I agree that seeing a full balcony was what made the British Royal Family, the British Royal Family, now they are just like every other monarchy, reduced to just the main players and not as much fun to watch.
That balcony has become uncomfortably bleak.
The balcony also used to sometimes include extended family from other royal houses. People like Queen Victoria’s granddaughter Victoria Eugenie, the Queen of Spain. Or royals close to the BRF like grand duke Jean of Luxembourg who also rode in the parade for years as a CIC of the Irish guards. He’d served in the IG as an exile in ww2 and landed at Normandy.
Except for the “wedding party” were there other kids there, I didn’t notice any. And if the two families are as close as the press would like us to believe, wouldn’t the Wales’ kids want to see their cousin get married? I don’t know, this family is so odd, it’s almost unbelievable.
Because the W&K PR props are to be used only for W&K PR.
Bingo!
This whole display was Charles’ PR to make it look like he still has a big happy royal family. The Wales kids weren’t brokered in the deal.
Maybe the Wales children were too busy “boarding” at school…
But it’s definitely weird that they didn’t go on with their parents nor were they participants in the wedding, esp since we’ve been told how close Will and Peter are. Allegedly – bc there’s definitely been no evidence of this supposed closeness!
Somebody on instagramm wrote there were sports events at ladbrooke, so hopefully the Wales children had much fun there.
And I assume the grown ups wanted to play a lot of beer pong.
Is there any proof it was sports day, or was that a Keen stan posting it? They pulled the same stunt years ago to excuse her refusing to show up for the Irish Guards. Derangers lied there were events at George’s school (on a day he didn’t attend), when she was at the hairdressers instead of working. We got three sets of excuses that day, but the fact was she didn’t show up because she didn’t want there to be an expectation she’d show up annually,
Beer pong is for peasants. They play with Prosecco
I didn’t really expect to see them there. My guess is that W&K went to the ceremony and then straight home and did not attend the reception. So the kids just stayed home with one of the nannies.
the idea that they couldn’t go because they were preparing mentally for Trooping though is…..a bit ridiculous.
I do think the bigger balconies were more fun. The balcony just looks so lonely now. I get that the full family isn’t appropriate for every single balcony appearance, but for Trooping it was fun to see how people were changing, especially the kids that weren’t public figures (like the Phillips’ girls.) In order to punish Harry and Meghan, they really did shoot themselves in the foot.
Yeah I agree. I said yesterday that that William and Kate were told that they had to attend. I think they did the bare minimum which was to attend the church service and left the children at home.
IMO Bill wanted to attend, as part of the “all cousins and friends in the UK are mine” campaign.
Kate wanted to attend to pose, preen, and flop at getting positive attention.
well, charles or william could change that balcony rule, right? but william doesn’t strike me as that close to family members and wanting them on the balcony anyway. i wonder how many of his family members really like, muchless love him?
I mean it’s not even really for working royals, or else the kids wouldn’t be on the balcony either. But like you mentioned all of this has been for an audience of one, and sometimes two, to say look at what you’re missing out on. You have to be as obsessed with this as we are with you.
But I don’t understand is why these people continue to let their kids be used as props? You would think Zara and Peter would feel some sort of way about their kids being used as a cudgel against their cousin and two kids under 10, but I guess not.
I’m sure that the Tindall and Phillips kids do see the Wales kids, but they made it like they were all best friends who are having constant sleepovers. I could believe that about the Tindall and Phillips families, especially since they all live on the same estate, but not for the others. And as always, they end up exposing how everything is a lie because they can’t maintain the fiction across the years.
I agree. The UK press has tried hard to convince us that the Wales’ children are having lots of fun growing up alongside their Gloucestershire ‘cousins’ and that Archie and Lili are lonely outsiders. In reality the Tindall and Phillips children are not their first cousins, they live over a hundred miles away on their grandmother’s estate and their lives have little in common with the Wales’s.
How hard is it supposed to be to “gear up” to sit in a carriage?!
😝🤣😄
The Wales’ kids were not there because this was a family wedding, not a royal wedding. The central families were Peter’s and Harriet’s, not the King’s family. Peter just happens to be one of the eight grandchildren of the late Queen. The guests included his divorced parents, Princess Anne and Mark Phillips, his daughters Savannah and Isla, his sister Zara, his brother-in-law Mike, his nieces Mia and Lena and nephew Lucas, his Uncle Charles and Uncle Edward, his cousins William, Beatrice, Eugenie and James, his ‘first-cousins-once-removed’ David and Sarah (Princess Margaret’s children) along with David’s daughter and Sarah’s eldest son. Husbands, wives or partners of adult relatives were of course included but, apart from his sister, not their children. Much has been made of his cousin Harry’s absence but his cousin Louise was also not there.
From Harriet’s side her brother was there and escorted her down the aisle and her daughter was one of the bridesmaids. No doubt she would have had her own assortment of other relatives.
i mean you just listed a lot of people there that attended that doesn’t really impact the attendance of the Wales children, lol. George is Peter’s first cousin once removed
the logical explanation is that kids weren’t invited with few exceptions, not the distinction between “family” and “royal” wedding.
‘Royal wedding’ was the spin the UK tabloids were putting on it. That was the language they were using. Hence the surprise that Andrew’s daughters were there. It was in fact a family wedding as defined by the bride’s and groom’s families. Prince William is just a cousin and cousins children were not included.
Agree @becks for the most part, except I think the Wales kids weren’t there because they weren’t invited to be a part of the wedding party. Kate’s not used to her kids not being the stars of the show, well, apart from herself that is.
Beatrice and Eugenie’s children are younger than the W&K children. That could easily be the reason why they weren’t there.
Mayp, I think you’re on to something. They weren’t part of the wedding party so Keen was mad. Her children, and only her children, must be the focus of attention at all times. Except when she’s shoving them around behind her so she can be the focus.
That’s a whole lot of excuses as to why William’s children didn’t attend the “family wedding” of “William’s favorite cousin (TM)”. We’re told the W&K children play constantly with Peter’s girls and Zara’s kids, as if they are first cousins and the only young relatives who matter.
I’d guess that the Wales kids aren’t close to ANY of their cousins because NOBODY is good enough for them. So it’s not just Meghan and Harry’s kids, but ALL the kids are “inferior” to George, Charlotte and Louis. Of course, not for the same reasons, but still.
When William was younger, maybe in his teens, it was reported that he looked down on his York cousins as being inferior. The impression I got then was that they were inferior because of their bloodline, read: Fergie. Even then, he felt he had to distinguish himself from his fellow HRH cousins. I never saw it reported that he looked down on his Philips cousins – I am sure he did but they didn’t have titles similar to his own.
It probably galls him to no end that Lili and Archie have those styles and princely titles. I think it’s much easier, and less infuriating, for him to look down on, and play fake happy family with, non-titled and styled relatives. But in the end, they will always be inferior to William and his own children.
If Fergie was an inferior ‘bloodline’ the Middletons must be the dregs. I think he probably didn’t know much about the Middletons and accepted them as a ‘normal’ family.
Huh, seems like a family wedding would be a great time for all the kids to get together, in addition to the ONE time at Christmas. William is a big fat liar.
I got the impression that Kate didn’t want to be at this wedding. The fact that her children were not included may have been a reason. Another reason could have been the press coverage of Harriet Sperling. Harriet is the same age as Kate and is slender and elegant. However, unlike Kate, she has raised a child alone and built a serious career. Any career would have served to highlight Kate’s workless and hedonistic life but Harriet is a paediatric specialist nurse. Her achievements make an uncomfortable contrast with Kate’s ‘Early Years ‘ busywork.
Perhaps the children weren’t invited? Peter is uncle to the Tindall children so it makes sense they were invited and obviously the children of the bride and groom were present. James Wessex is a young adult not a child and he’s first cousin to the groom like William, Beatrice, Eugenie etc.
Many people don’t want a lot of children running around at their weddings so it could be the same for Peter and Harriet?
