It’s amazing to watch the Duchess of Sussex conduct completely normal business for As Ever as the British press is in full meltdown over her upcoming UK visit. This week, As Ever’s Instagram account posted a short reel of Meghan holding a basket of vegetables and smiling in a striped shirt. I thought it was a nothingburger – just Meghan doing her thing and promoting the As Ever brand and aesthetic. The Daily Mail has written no fewer than five major stories about that reel. Their latest piece is accusing Prince Harry of buying Meghan an anniversary ring which (they claim) looks “very similar” to the Princess of Wales’ cursed sapphire engagement ring.
She’s known for her elegant jewellery, and royal fans have speculated that the Duchess of Sussex has added to her collection with a new ring.
Meghan Markle, 44, who lives in Montecito, California, showcased the piece in her Instagram post on May 11, suggesting it was perhaps an early anniversary present from her husband, Prince Harry, with their special day landing on May 19.
Others have claimed the piece bears a striking resemblance to the Princess of Wales’ engagement ring, the 12-carat oval sapphire previously owned by her mother-in-law, Princess Diana.
Meghan donned the ring again in her latest As Ever post, shared yesterday, where she collected fresh fruit and vegetables in the garden. Taking to X, one said: ‘Meghan Markle’s latest As Ever video shows her wearing a new ring that resembles Princess Diana and Princess Catherine’s engagement ring!’
It follows rumours that, in the aftermath of Princess Diana’s death, Harry reportedly selected Diana’s Garrard sapphire engagement ring, while William opted for her Cartier Tank Française watch. In 2010, it is believed the brothers swapped items so William could use the ring to propose to Catherine, the Princess of Wales. Later, Harry gave the luxurious timepiece to Meghan. However, in his bombshell biography Spare, released in 2023, the Duke of Sussex branded these reports ‘absolutely rubbish’. Instead, Harry claimed William was already in possession of their mother’s ring when he proposed to Kate, so he was never asked to give it up.
It comes after claims Meghan’s latest promo for her lifestyle brand, in which she showed the ring, ‘missed the mark’ after fans were left confused about what she was trying to sell.
Because of this, I’ve now watched this reel like ten times, trying to figure out what the ring actually looks like. It’s a cocktail ring on her right hand, and I don’t even think it’s a sapphire, honestly. My guess is either a garnet or an onyx – something which photographs very darkly. The gem seems to have a square cut with a very slight diamond surround. I really want to see this clearly, because I suspect it looks nothing like Big Blue. I also suspect that we’ve only seen a fraction of Meghan’s amazing jewelry collection, and I’d love to know how many of Diana’s pieces she’s been given by Harry.

Shows the overboarding imagination of these people. I watched the clip frame by frame, this ring is bigger than Big Blue, not surrounded by diamonds as far I can tell, and I am not even sure if it is a sapphire, which comes in different colours than blue also. Could be a dark amethyst. Pretty much every stone which photographs dark when lighting isn’t directly on it.
Why on earth would Meghan want a copy of Big Blue? This thing is ugly. Diana could have chosen a much nicer ring, this one was always far too big and too flashy for her. Absolutely not Meghan’s style. I remember only one really big cocktail ring Meghan showcased, that was the Onyx ring.

@Lurker — I agree, this new ring doesn’t look at all like Big Blue.
But as for large rings, I haven’t kept track, but I know Meghan wears Diana’s cocktail aquamarine, which is definitely very big. It’s also simple and beautiful, without the diamond “halo” that I personally don’t care for on rings. But I don’t care for a lot of modern jewelry design elements.
Big Blue is also cursed as far as I’m concerned. Diana’s marriage was horrible and Kate’s doesn’t seem much happier. It’s a pretty ring, but I don’t think it’s brought happiness to anyone who’s worn it.
It looks like a flat, oval shaped ring in a gold setting that goes all the way around the stone. Is she not allowed to wear rings? These people are seriously bonkers.

The beautiful, interesting, articulate, educated, hard working mixed race lady has nice things…. She has to be copykeening our plain, dull, inarticulate, uneducated, lazy left behinds…. No one with any common sense wanted big blue except the woman who chased it desperately for a decade. Every woman of a certain age sees Diana’s cursed ring when they see a large sapphire and are slightly repulsed. The ring Meghan is wearing looks like a garnet to me, but the angle obscures the color.
This is @TN Democrat, I tend to think Diana’s attitude to wearing that ring was the jewellery equivalent of malicious compliance, like wearing a service medal from a campaign that was doomed to fail and in which you were exploited as cannon fodder yet miraculously survived. The thing about Diana is that her story had a life-affirming morale, before and wholly apart from the flukish way she died: it is possible to escape the vortex that is the BRF. The whole country could take heed from her example. It’s a collective codependency.
Why would anyone want Diana’s cursed ring? I certainly would not. It has very bad juju and no one who would want a happy marriage would want it or anything that emulates that energy, unless you were a certain middle class British commoner trying to social climb their way to the top of the pyramid as queen consort and felt they had something to prove….
Meghan has done nothing to emulate Kate in all these years. I don’t think she is starting now.
Yeah it looks like an onyx ring rather than a sapphire. But at least the DM included Harry’s denial that he never had Diana’s engagement ring. The press and royal fans loved that myth and it was very hard for them to let it go.
