Kate Hudson wore jelly shoes while on vacation in Greece, are they making a comeback?

Kate Hudson is currently on vacation in Greece with her family, including her fiance, Danny Fujikawa, and their two youngest kids, Rani, seven, and Bingham, 14. It looks so relaxing there. Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn are also there and I think her stepbrother Boston Russell is too. Kate has made a lot of headlines for her bikini photos, where she’s looking fit. She loves posting bikini photos, and I would too if I looked like that.

I wanted to talk about the fact that Kate is wearing jelly shoes in another photo from a carousel she posted. People magazine has a post about it. Jelly shoes have never really gone away, I guess, but I associate them with the 80s. I had the cage kind as a child and I remember them being uncomfortably stiff and flat. Shoe technology has improved and I’m sure the expensive pair Kate is wearing aren’t as bad as the ones I remember. I’m pretty sure she’s wearing a $140 pair from Nordstrom, ironically by the brand Ancient Greek Sandals. The blue-green ombre pair is really cute, but I would not pay over $50 for a pair of damn jelly shoes. Here are links to more affordable jelly shoes, the Steve Madden Grove Jelly Flat, which reviewers call “comfortable” and “adorable” and the Cushionaire modern lattice ballet flat, described as “super cute and comfy.” Now I want some jelly shoes, what is wrong with me?

Kate’s satin blue dress is so effortless-looking despite how formal it is. I wouldn’t think to dress it down like that, but it looks amazing. While I can’t find that exact dress, Asos has a light blue satin maxi dress with spaghetti straps for under $70. I also like the Roxy Spaghetti Strap Maxi Dress at Nordstrom, for $140. Quince’s European linen fit and flare midi dress is a very nice alternative and looks like it would pack well. That’s the dress in the photo at the top.

If you’re like me and prefer a more forgiving fabric, one of my favorite brands, Boden, has v-neck jersey midi dresses on sale for under $50. I bought this exact dress in red a few days ago and am anxiously waiting for the shipment. Jersey dresses are my favorite, especially wrap and shirt dresses, and I have a few from Boden.

Here are links to some other dresses I’m eyeing. I love a bold print and am eyeing this Kimono Midi Shirt Dress from Boden, especially in pink. I also am probably going to treat myself to the Sydney Twist Neck Jersey Dress in leafy cascade. I need that dress, right? Help me justify my purchase. It’s on sale! Asos has a tie back halter midi dress that’s also very cute.

Oh wow. I was in my late teens or early 20’s when I wore jelly shoes and they were popular. I’m in my 40’s now and I need supportive footwear plus I remember jelly shoes make for really sweaty feet so I’ll pass.

      Ah, the memories!
Back in the day, Jelly shoes were my jam! But yes, your feet could get sweaty – I used foot spray which was also cooling (I was a very active teen so foot spray was a staple). But sweaty feet might be why they went out of fashion so quickly 😂. Adult me needs shoes with more support so I too will pass.

Jelly shoes are actually pretty popular right now, specifically flats. I have seen some really cute tortoiseshell patterned ones at Nordstrom. Even as a kid I could never wear jelly shoes – they always hurt my toes! I think the newer iteration looks a bit more sophisticated than the ones from back in the day.

Boden is my go to for dresses. Well constructed, beautiful fabrics, they’re designed to last. As for the jelly shoes, bring them on, but not for $140! Maybe The Rack or DSW has them at more reasonable prices.

They also have incredible customer service. A dress I ordered was stolen off my front steps. Boden replaced it immediately with an apology note, They didn’t steal it but they apologized that someone else did?

      • Flamingo says:

It’s just good high end customer service. Your dress got stolen. The brand wants you to have a happy experience. Then you come back and shop again. A cost of a dress is less important than having a loyal customer for a lifetime.

They were sorry you had a bad experience happen.

I read an article on jelly shoes becoming popular again and of course it had links to different brands. One was $950! For plastic shoes!! So $140 seems kind of reasonable, now. LOL (but I still wouldn’t buy them)

Greece in the dead of summer, when it’s 100 degrees – in jelly shoes on uneven pavement, cobblestones, gravel, dirt roads…nope.

  5. Digital Unicorn says:

Not just jelly shoes but jelly bags are back too. They r all over the UK high street this summer.

  6. tyrant_destroyed says:

They’ve never went away. Old navy has kid sizes every summer. My daughter didn’t like them tho 😆 If I have to wear children’s sandals I’d rather buy a pair of Natives, at least your feet don’t slip away

I am old enough to have survived the first go-round. I remember how horrific they were!!

  8. NotSoSocialB says:

I recently saw a TikTok where jellies- kitten heel, THONG style, and with an ANKLE strap- being filmed in some high end store somewhere. Ridiculous, uncomfortable, sweaty, No thank you.

  9. Chaine says:

I remember them causing terrible blisters. no thanks! re: Boden, love the brand because it has petite proportioned sizes!

  10. ElsaBug says:

I was so jealous of my older cousins who had them in the 80s! I saw a 20 something wear a pair this weekend and that was the first time in 40 years!

  11. millie says:

I own jellie flats from this brand. I wore them all summer last year and I replaced them with a new pair this summer. I love them.

  12. Kaye says:

I love the shopping posts, even if it’s something i don’t want or need! They’re just fun to read.

  13. Bebe says:

I have never stopped wearing jelly sandals. But you don’t need to buy these brands latest trending expensive jellies. Just search ‘Meduse Jelly Sandals’. I have been buying jelly sandals from them for over 10years and they have basically been the same price that whole time. They also literally last forever and are super comfortable! They are not uncomfortably stiff and I have never gotten blisters. Not an ad I just love these shoes!

  14. Sarah says:

Jellies have been on trend for awhile now. The row started it a year+ ago.

  15. Aimee says:

Never loved the jelly shoes but those are great midi dresses!
