John Mayer tells ex-lover to stop contacting him, then erases his blog entry – again

John Mayer doesn’t seem to realize that you can’t put something up on a blog, erase it a few hours later, and then expect it to be wiped away and forgotten. He deleted all his blog entries in mid January after defending his ex Jessica Simpson against rapid Dallas Cowboys fans, who blamed her for her boyfriend, quarterback Tony Romo’s, poor performance at a game she attended, which may have cost the Cowboys a place in the Superbowl.

Mayer said “I have never known anyone to have more pride in their home state and their upbringing in it than Jessica Simpson has in Texas…that girl loves Texas more than you know. It’s one of her most defining traits as a person. So, please don’t try and take that away from her… If I’m out of line in having written it, too bad. I can spare a Wednesday’s worth of bad press if it means sticking up for a good soul”

He couldn’t spare a day’s worth of bad press, though, because he then wiped his whole blog out and put up a message that he was “Done & Dusted & Self-Conscious & Back to Work.”

Fair enough, John Mayer, but if you’re going to get back into blogging talk about all the great collaborations you’re doing and the cool gadgets you’re buying, not the way some ex girlfriend is pissing you off by bugging you. Don’t toke and blog:

The singer, 30… wrote the following letter on his Web site, but asked fans not to “read too far into this on a personal level. (There are no hidden messages)… I just thought it sums up how crazy love can be.”

“Dear Ex Lover,

“Perhaps you didn’t understand the last time I told you to stop contacting me, so I’ll do my best to spell it out for you. I do not wish to have you in my life anymore.

“I don’t know how much more clear I can be about it. It would serve you best to move on with your life and find someone who can put up with you, because I’m done trying.

“I hope this is enough closure for you.

“Goodbye.

“P.S. If you need me, you know how to find me.”

[From US Weekly]

This news just came out on US Weekly, but already Mayer’s blog is replaced by a message that reads “‘never complain, never explain.’ – Henry Ford II”

Complaining and explaining are the whole points of a blog. The way you get through the occasional over-share or stupid observation is to just keep writing about other shit and people will forget it in a day or two. (This is my strategy obviously.)

Mayer could have also put up an update or another post or something and said he was just messing with us and seeing how much press he would get. Now that he pulled it down, though, we know that he was really bitching about an ex who was semi-stalking him. Our bets are on Minka Kelly, the 27 year-old Friday Night Lights actress with whom he was last linked. How harsh is it to diss someone online like that? Maybe she – or someone else – was really bugging the hell out of him and he just couldn’t take it anymore. Could it have been Jessica Simpson? She was rumored to have called Nick Lachey for ages after they broke up.

Mayer is shown outside those cosmo “Fun Fearless Male” awards on 3/3/08, thanks to PRPhotos.
