Before this week, this summer had been pretty terrible, gossip-wise. People are tired, broke and eating deadly blueberries. The Reverse Sussexit has changed things! Everyone’s blindsided and excited and worried. The happiest people in the world are members of the British press, who are getting back their two biggest stars, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The Daily Mail’s Liz Jones was downright giddy as she wrote her column: “Welcome home, Meghan and Harry. This is why we need you more than ever… and bitter reality we must face about Kate and William.” LOL. Brutal. An excerpt:
Harry and Meghan are packing up in California, along with several dog bowls and Le Creuset pans (though are retaining their homes in Montecito and Portugal), and heading back to Britain! To live here full-time, we are told – at least until the children have finished their education. What news! All I can think of is, how soon can you get here? Will there be crowds of screaming fans at Heathrow, as if they are returning Beatles, tired of their voices going unheard? I hope so!
Let’s face it, we need the excitement. I am tingling with anticipation. Because, dare I say it, I am bored with the Prince and Princess of Wales. Queen Camilla is almost 80 and I am sure yearns for time to just potter. Princess Anne deserves time off for good behaviour. Prince Edward and his wife (I’m sorry, I can’t even remember her name) are about as exciting as cold porridge.
The family is looking as threadbare as those tartan carpets at Balmoral. And, given the watery admonishments from the Waleses regarding the former prince Andrew, we need a gobby feminist such as Meghan in our midst to tackle difficult and unsavoury behaviour, someone unafraid to not always be smiling in a perfect frock and vertiginous heels.
…So now I’m wondering how far back into the fold they will come. Will we finally see the mop-haired Archie and barefoot Lili waving from balconies, and enjoying all the privileges and security that comes with a place at the heart of the Royal Family? Not to mention some help for their parents from the public purse. Royal correspondents think not, but of course the possibility looms tantalisingly close. Personally I can’t see Meghan trying all that again, kneeling in mud talking to Scouts while being forced to wear flesh-coloured tights. No housewife, she will be running her As Ever brand remotely, so any official duties would need to be far more imaginative and close to the couple’s hearts.
The Duchess has only accompanied Harry twice to the UK since leaving (for The Queen’s funeral and this summer the first time in four years to re-introduce Charles to his grandchildren), so while Harry may have his heart set on an Eton or Harrow, what has changed Meghan’s mind? Apart from the much-trumpeted financial independence turning to dust in the US.
And yet she must be wholly on board: she is not someone who would leave those golden beaches, that curated lifestyle, the Montecito ‘garden’, the celebrity mwah-mwahs, without a very tempting, organic carrot.
So, I don’t think she’s being dragged by her lovely hair, but she will have calligraphed a long list of demands. My gut feeling is what finally sealed the deal was the visit to Althorp (Meghan posted photos of what were thought to be the pilgrimage to Diana’s family home and the island where she is buried), which took place when the family visited England in July. Meghan had been left a little cold by the crowds at her wedding, the E-type Jag, the Stella McCartney dress, the blasted Windsor cottage. But how could she not be wooed by the sight of that stately home, the parkland, the crisp tones of Earl Spencer as well as the warmth, the certainty, of being embraced by a family who although not Windsors come with hundreds of years of history too.
“Because, dare I say it, I am bored with the Prince and Princess of Wales.” Finally, an honest statement – Jones is bored with William and Kate because they’re boring, lazy and entitled. That’s the whole reason why the British media has been so focused on Harry and Meghan for the past seven years – William and Kate have the charisma of burnt toast. This is funny too: “Prince Edward and his wife (I’m sorry, I can’t even remember her name) are about as exciting as cold porridge.” Poor Sophie.

I laughed through that whole article. And yeah, they have become bored. And as she asks, what changed for Meghan. We all get why Harry wanted to come back, but what sealed the deal for her? And the way this reads, they are back for the kid’s education? Does that mean longer than a year?
I think Liz Jones is hoping that they stay until Archie and Lili finish their education.
Yes I agree that was her wishful thinking.. I’ve seen articles mentioning Prince Archie attending Eton so they are really banking on this being permanent which I highly doubt. I enjoyed this article more than her past ones I typically avoid anything with her byline, but kudos for stating the truth about the leftovers and their inadequacies in everything they do or try.
Good God, Liz is foaming at the mouth.
She usually is – this is pretty measured for her.
Yeah, isn’t Jones the one who claimed she cried when she heard that Kate had been diagnosed with “cancer” because it felt like “one of her own family members” was sick? And now she’s already bored with her? lol
Yeah great for liz but the last time Meghan was in blighty they clipped her wings so no one knew she was even there till she posted Photos so is it going to be more of the same Sure Meghan is here but we havent seen neither hider nor hair of her since she landed ?
At some point she’ll be seen by neighbors; some will (sadly) sell their pics to the tabs.
I think it’s a dangerous choice for Meghan, and just downright stupid of Harry who supposedly wants to protect his wife. Dorian can’t be too happy about this.
Keens will have to pull out all stops, Maybe another “love scene” on a beach with the Keens. And maybe the kids running on the beach. The Nay Cha videos seemed to add nothing.
This article still annoys the snot out of me. Even when they’re brave enough to get a small dig on W&C and “complimenting” H&M they are full of slights and outright LIES about H&M. Everyone just gulps it down.
I don’t know where she gets the stay until kids complete their education bit. Later. if they don’t commit to 18 years, she can accuse them of vacillating of outright lying.
And funny how these rota rats only mention the “public purse” when it’s related to Harry and Meghan. Never mind the fact the public purse supports that whole raggedy royal family.
Watching them ramp it up will be hilarious
This is hilarous!
Even “barefoot Lili” is cutely funny.
It is funny
Not to give Liz Jones any props, but I did genuinely laugh at the line, “calligraphed a long list of demands” 😭
I wonder if all the royal podcasts will resurrect.
“until the children have finished their education’? I bet it’s one year and out. Long enough for Harry’ to steer the upcoming Invictus Games, Meghan to do whatever business plans she has in mind, the kids to hang out with the Spencers and likely King Chuck, and then out. Neat, precise, surgical. (She said hopefully:)
Until age 13 it’s really easy to move between systems so this move doesn’t indicate anything about the kids future.
It’ll take five years max.
That’s when Georgie will hit the age of majority and no longer need a Regent.
And there it is, of course! The British press have been bored of W&K for years, but have never wanted to admit it. H&M returning must be like a thousand christmases coming early. If I wasn’t overwhelmingly concerned for Meghan & the kiddies safety, I would be excited for this. Baldy must be on his millionth plate smash, whilst Kitty roams endlessly in her Meghan mood-board office.
and don’t forget the truck loads of cushions… ? From because you know sometimes there are just never enough cushions. Mind you Wiglet Wails could be sitting at the sewing machine with ma middleton trying to design a set of cushions just for this very circumstance.
Called ? Power Pillows, stand all kinds of treatment, made by Wiglet Wails Party Planners and thieves inc.
I can just see it now and thanks for reminding me about Wiglet ripping off Meghan’s mood board.
That’s got to sting when someone says the quiet part out loud. I hope the Windsors choke on it. It makes me worry for The Sussexes though and how unhinged the media is going to get.
I personally think they’re going to settle there for up to 5 years.
If Scooter becomes King before the 5 years are up, I think they will return to California. Harry knows what his brother is capable of first hand.
None of us have any way of knowing how long they’ll stay— we just don’t have enough information yet. We don’t even know why this is even happening.
Liz Jones will be fuming an a few weeks when she doesn’t see those kids, just saying.
Ouch, ouch, ouch, it’s so interesting to watch the press digest this news. Like an anaconda swallowing an entire cow – not sure what comes out the other end will be different from their usual product..
😂😂😂
@Eurydice you do have a way with words!
I am reminded of a photo they have at one of the visitor center’s in the Everglades NP. It’s of a python that attempted to eat a crocodile–it got the whole thing in but then exploded in the middle. It’s a gruesome but fascinating photo. Perhaps we’ll see the same with the British press?
Well she’s saying the not so quiet part out loud, isnt’ she? The press have long been bored with W&K. heck they were bored with them back in 2018 when they started attacking H&M. W&K are boring – even if they were to work more, they’d still be boring. The most interesting thing Kate has done in her marriage is disappear for a few months.
She does shade the lazy ones but the article also has a lot of nasty shots at the Sussexes even commenting on the hair of the kids.
Oh she’s nasty for sure. But sometimes with people like this I overlook the shots at the Sussexes bc I expect those, and look for the ones aimed not so subtly at the other royals. Poor Sophie hahahahahahha.
@Becks1
It’s not just about the boredom; there’s also the fact that every story about WK has to pass through their hands before publication
– just like all the photos, which first go to someone on the Middleton team so they can properly “butcher” them.
Admittedly, these journalists are more like pseudo-journalists, but still—being led around by the hand like that by a couple of amateurs must be incredibly irritating, though on the other hand—they have only themselves to blame :))))
Yeah, she’s bored with WanK because she can’t write about the skeletons in their closet. It’s only the mildest criticism that’s directed at WanK which is then swiftly overtaken by the Sussex smear campaign.
She can’t remember Edward wife name and they are as exciting as cold porridge. I died . Now I am going back to finish reading this hilarious writing from Liz
“but she will have calligraphed a long list of demands”
I have to admit, I chuckled at this line. Yes, it’s a dig but at least it’s a creative one (and also could be true)
Okay, calling Archie hair a mop is racist as f , So f Liz . You can insult Willy and kitty and the rest all you want but your racist ass needs to leave Archie and lily out of it .
Yes that needs to be called out.
That’s exactly how I read it too.
Yep, I found that line reprehensible.
No doubt all of the British press are excited about Harry and Meghan returning and find William and Kate very boring. But they’re going to sorely disappointed when they realize that they’re not going to see Harry and Meghan as often as they’d like. And I don’t think that they will be living in the UK for more than a year.
Here’s a great article in the LA Times.
I love this part: “(Here’s hoping Meghan gets some grace and credit as a supportive spouse willing to step once more unto the breach before the British press starts blaming her for, I don’t know, the climate crisis.)”
https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/story/2026-08-21/harry-meghan-return-england-not-surprising-royal-family-good-pr
“Once more unto the breach.” I love it.
“”Unto the breach” means to charge back into a dangerous situation, a difficult fight, or a stubborn problem. The phrase comes from William Shakespeare’s play .”
This is brilliant. Thank you for sharing!
The phrase is from Henry V and is one of the best speeches in all of Shakespeare.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VOOZDO5KDv4
Kenneth Branagh’s Henry V is the best. CRY “GOD FOR HARRY, ENGLAND, AND ST GEORGE!”
Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there’s nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour’d rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o’erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O’erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill’d with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call’d fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game’s afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry ‘God for Harry, England, and Saint George!’
Bless you Harriet- those words were taught to me years ago, from Teachers who knew and believed in their subject matter. In those days being in a Commonwealth Country (maybe you as well?) we were encouraged to believe in the things or events that forged us. History, historians, writers, playwrights and even poets (let alone world wars etc) all had their place.
Thank you for reminding me that Prince Harry has that kind of depth in him and enough guts coupled with enormous courage to overcome.
Made my day (in our deep, deep southern winter)
‘an effective showcase for William’s persona of resolute duty’…….this line must have been a sarcastic dig…Lol!
Dang, petition to change Sophie’s moniker from “Sofiesta” to “Cold Porridge”. Ouch ouch ouch.
William and Kate are just as exciting as cold porridge too, Liz. Absolutely charisma-less wet-ends.
I can’t really blame them for being in such a frenzy over this. The rest of the Royals really are a stale bunch. They must be beside themselves with excitement for the Sussexes to return.
‘Prince Edward and his wife (I’m sorry, I can’t even remember her name)….’ Oh, how I laughed!!
After all Sophie has done, she’s still completely forgettable lol.
This article is snarky as hell but it lays out a central truth: William may be the heir, Kate may be the POW, but Meghan and Harry are the real inheritors of Diana’s charisma, star power and impact.
I roll my eyes when these people write about Meghan’s successful business then contradict themselves by claiming they’re desperate for money from daddy. She was correct with the boring Will & Kate.
Another change of tune!!!
Desperate for Divine intervention or Absolution? Whingeing and Wiglet Wails are looking absolutely savage in almost every photograph either stepping into a Church or while standing there mouthing the words.
I wish that for persons spoon fed from the bullshit “Divine right of Kings” (Wiglet Wails would have read that book like a mills and boon novel) Should have been slapped bloody hard and reminded that history teaches us that “terrible things can happen to Kings” and obviously Whingeing Wails had someone copy that down for him but will have to destroy that poor person for not telling him like 100 million times.
As for the “I’m bored with my Wails….” well you got what you wanted six years ago – driving The Sussex Clan off the British Island.. change of Strategy? Or maybe feeling like she can throw off her whale bone corset and give Especially Wiglet Wails a boot up the butt for All her Laziness, Laziness excuse (which as you all know I have never believed the c story), the school run, lies and more lies, then the hijacking of the purpose of Wimbledon and it’s not Wiglet strange as it may seem. The list goes on …
Anyway with Church faces looking as alive as a dead fish, filled with poison botox – then Liz Jones had better get to confession herself starting with “I am sorry Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan” then for once in her life call out, shout out, and take notice of what we have said for years and make sure that Wiglet and Whingeing Wails get challenged, forced (to do their bloody jobs), or even shamed into it, with the hope of KC3 slapping the pair of them
publicly but with all the subtle ways he has learned to.
From that Liz Jones to this Liz Jones do the decent thing (if you can spell it and know it is a doing word) – atone and this article better have been a serious start because this will not be forgiven.
Well, she’s got that right—WK are boring. They have no charisma, and the only time most of the public seemed interested in them was when K went missing, which ultimately turned into more of a meme than anything else.
The only thing I worry about is M’s mental health and, of course, the children’s privacy. Going back to that toxic environment must be daunting. But if it doesn’t work out, they have a home to return to in California, or even Portugal. That’s another thing the derangers seem to be mad about because they don’t like the narrative: they have options. If things don’t work out in the UK, they can leave. They don’t have to depend on anyone or stay somewhere that isn’t working for them.
