In the 24 hours following the huge news of the Sussex family’s return to the UK, the royal press was coming up with fun new ways to describe Prince William’s incandescent rage over the news. Some said William was furiously blindsided. Some said that the Reverse Sussexit was a “slap in the face” for Huevo in particular. Some said that Prince William and Kate are “tearing their hair out,” or I guess, ripping up wiglets and rage-yanking that sad little tuft. Well, we’ve got a new description, courtesy of Peter Hunt. William is “apoplectic.” Whew.
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will face an ‘apoplectic’ William, low favourability among the British public and an uncertain place in the royal pecking order when they start their new life in Britain within days.
Royal insiders say that the Prince of Wales will be angry at the surprise move and could feel he is being forced towards a reconciliation with his brother. The King was taken totally by surprise about the announcement when he was told on Sunday, just three days in advance – while sources said that the terms of the Megxit deal under which the Sussexes are not ‘working royals’ will be unchanged. The Sussexes’ status will remain the same, with the couple not being offered a ‘half-in-half-out’ option when it comes to their roles. But many close to the royals fear that the couple are trying to create such an arrangement regarding their royal status.
Former BBC royal correspondent Peter Hunt said: ‘In the long term, the return of the Sussexes to the UK opens up the prospect of two rival courts, William’s and Harry’s. In the short term, Harry will be able to deepen his rapprochement with his father. His presence back home will make it harder for his brother to duck a reconciliation. The surprise return of Harry and Meghan is likely to have left William apoplectic.’
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Mail: ‘It provokes a crisis for the monarchy because the monarchy’s responses are often poor when they don’t know what to expect. With this, you certainly don’t know what to expect. All sorts of things may happen. It is utterly ruthless if he did tell the King of his plans to move on Sunday.’
Mr Fitzwilliams added the decision was evidence the Sussexes were a ‘disastrous failure in the US’, after relocating to North America six years ago. And he suggested Harry feared how William would receive him and his family when, or should, William takes the throne.
‘This is actually an extremely serious situation,’ Mr Fitzwilliams said. ‘What they have done is very clearly chosen King Charles’s reign to do this knowing their options might be very limited when, and if, William becomes king. I strongly suspect that William would look very closely at their titles and possibly the titles of their children. William will see this as total proof they couldn’t be trusted for a single second.’
I enjoy Peter Hunt’s commentary because he’s usually not one to barf out the palace’s talking points. But this is wrong: “the return of the Sussexes to the UK opens up the prospect of two rival courts…” The rival courts already exist, one in England and one in Montecito. It’s been that way for years. This is the first time the two competing royal courts will be in the same country since early 2020. I do agree with Hunt that William’s reaction has probably been apoplectic.
Fitzwilliams’ commentary is a hoot: “It provokes a crisis for the monarchy because the monarchy’s responses are often poor when they don’t know what to expect…” LMAO. A whole-ass royal commentator huffily announces that the monarchy is poorly managed, not built for crisis, and unable to navigate situations they can’t control. The entire British monarchy operates like Pete Hegseth is at the helm after a keg party.

I think he’ll blame keen .
One sick puppy. Now he and Middleton will have to get off their buns and work. Boo hoo.
Thinking of Willy pulling out what’s left of his hair is bringing me great joy 😂😂😂😂and kitty wig in total disarray because she can’t figure out how she will get around not working with Harry and Meghan living there not knowing where or when they will pop up in public. I got to say ,it’s the funniest thing ever
Someone on Reddit yesterday made a really good point that I had not thought about. If William was behind the sabotage of Sentabale, Harry wanted to be close by so that his Birmingham Invictus Games go off without a hitch. If William had been planning something against Invictus, then yes, he’s probably pissed off now that he is now much less likely to be able to pull it off.
That was my thought too. Harry didn’t need to be in place for the previous Invictus Games, but he needs to be in the UK now to prevent the Sentebale Sabotage from happening again. The only thing Will-di Amin seemingly lives for is destroying anything Harry has ever had for himself, so this may be a necessary sacrifice to get ahead of the brother monster.
To add my two cents, that’s a valid point.
I too was afraid for Invictus especially after Sentebale, After the King dies William will be the head of the Armed forces which he could use to get the army to change things. He will only want it to hurt Harry, I don’t believe that he cares for the injured soldiers, sailors or aircrafts people. It would certainly mean more work to keep it up to Harry’s standards and I doubt that William would be willing to do that as well as the duties he will inherit from his father.
Charles, and after him William, are nominal head of the armed forces. But they have no say in how they operate. They cannot send them to war. They have no say about employment, about the benefits for veterans, about programs for veteran’s health, and about working with Invictus. That’s the government’s job, specifically the Office for Veterans’ Affairs,
The British government works happily with Invictus. William can scream all he wants, they will simply ignore him. Invictus is an established foundation, working with 25 countries (and more interested to join). The Office for Veterans’ Affairs won’t throw the benefits away just to please William.
People assume Charles and William have much more power than they really have. The PM may discuss daily politics with Charles, and take some points Charles makes under advice, because it is Charles, an intelligent diplomat.
William? Who will try to avoid the red box and the talks with the PM? The PM will pretend to listen, nod, and go home thinking “what a moron”.
Charles and William don’t have any real power. Except over the press when it comes to favorable/not so favorable headlines and articles about the RF. Small fish.
I thought that too. He’s protecting Invictus.
I think people need to understand a few things . Or at least 2. I’ve seen people explain this many times here. Sentable was for purposes a one person show. That’s how it operated. Tiny budget raised solely by Harry. Invictus has thousands of interested persons, a massive board and dozens of countries that have their own organisers. William has no power regardless of what people assume. Sentable is not invictus. Im not sure how you correlate the two.
How soon before we hear that William has called for a dreaded “summit” to deal with the presence of the Sussexes in the UK? You know it’s coming.
Yes I believe the summit will be on Willy’s agenda soon he is such a weak and pathetic adult and he obviously is going to continue this toddler tantrum behavior until everyone realizes it.. he has done more damage to his image than anyone.. Spare, Oprah interview and the docuseries can’t come close to the damage of his constant rage briefings that scream “entitled insecure man filled with rage and hate” what a joke he has made himself into.
It seems they already had a summit. The entire family was at Balmoral. They could talk, and whine, and scream and find out there is nothing they can do about a private British citizen renting or buying property in England and to live there as long as he and his wife and children want. Oh, to be a fly on the wall…..
I’m sure they’ll get to it right after their vacation. 🙄
I think that’s a good take on the situation. You know it has to be something big. There has to be something large happening behind the scenes that’s not being publicly discussed for Meghan to agree to this whole thing for her and the children.
But I can also see Meghan and Harry planning strategically to prevent William from turning Invictus into Sentebale 2.0. . I think William didn’t think Harry had the cohones to move back to England- even temporarily. He really believed he had successfully exiled the Sussexes instead of seeing it as them having left on their own terms.
So I hope William is apoplectic. He should be. He’ll eventually come to the realization that Harry is not the idiot they all tried to make him out to be. And with Meghan as his partner, he is quite a formidable opponent that he should not take for granted.
Best wishes to the Sussexes. I wish them happiness and success in all their endeavors.
I’m sure William and others were certain that Harry and Meghan had been successfully bullied from ever moving back. It must have freaked W out to learn that they’d been all over the UK for days? weeks? in stealth. And for all we know they stayed a few days in the new house last month. Now I’m thinking that the quirky toilet brush holder that Meghan bought in Portugal wasn’t for the villa but to bring to England for the new place.
My thought:
Charles has been planning since at least last year, and possibly since Harry’s trip to the UK to see him in February of 2024, for a Regent to take over in case he’s incapacitated towards the end of his reign.
Recall if you will, all the articles we’ve seen, old and new, about William having a bad relationship with his father, screaming and yelling at his father the King, etc.
Does this sound like a man that Charles would trust to reign in his stead and make end of life decisions for him, compassionately?
Nope.
I believe the Sussexes’ move isn’t permanent, but it’s not trifling.
I believe William will be pressured by the government and Charles to be removed from the succession in favor of George, with Harry as Regent.
George is 13, and cannot rule on his own until he’s 18. So five years in Blighty may be ahead for the Sussexes.
Could this be what is behind William’s current rages? Have they told him yet? Billy has the Windsor jealousy gene. He’s always envied his brother and the only thing William could ever hold over Harry was “some day I’ll be King and you won’t”.
William’s antisocial behaviour towards H&M is proving to be his undoing in real time. He will ultimately lose the one thing that made him feel more important/better than Harry. Because Charles won’t trust William to look after him, and the government won’t trust him to represent the nation. Between the dereliction of duty and the emotional disregulation, William is not fit to rule. William had the opportunity for two years to step up to the plate, and he refused. The government isn’t happy with William.
Of course TOB is apoplectic – he’s been used to having everything his own way, and Harry’s presence in the UK will put a wrench in his calculations. He will have to either grit his teeth hard and come to some sort of understanding with his brother, or he’ll spend the next year hiding in a foxhole and hoping they never cross paths.
He talked a big game about never seeing Harry again until their father’s funeral and making sure to be “out of the country” whenever Harry comes to town, but he obviously didn’t reckon on the Sussexes being in the neighborhood on a more permanent basis! This is not a man who is good at changing his plans or his ideas, and I doubt the next few months are going to be a good look for him.
I would bet that the person he’s most apoplectic towards, though, is his father – I don’t believe that Charles only knew of Harry’s plans on Sunday, I think the wording “was informed” is a bit cagey, but even if we accept that, it’s clear there were several days where Charles knew and did not tell his older son. This may be because he knew his son would leak it, because he doesn’t value his advice or input, or because he frankly enjoys keeping secrets from William as a power play – maybe all of the above.
Agree that Charles likely knew for a while. Question did Camilla know? Or did she just find out very recently? She’s always had the tabloids on speed dial.
Charles had to have known. Eh, Camilla, I don’t think so. She definitely would have blabbed to the press. Her press buddies are probably angry that she didn’t give them the scoop. I think Charles had been testing people on his own to see who is leaking what info. Now that Alderton is gone, and information was withheld from Camilla and there were no leaks, it’s becoming clearer to Charles just who has been leaking. I wouldn’t be surprised if Harry asked Charles to test to see where the leaks have been coming from. Just like Elizabeth did.
If the people who have been whispering poison in his ear all this time no longer have access to advance information to put that negative spin in play, all of a sudden things start running smoothly.
I think Charles has been planning and was in the loop with the Sussexes the whole time. June 2025 there was a Telegraph article about Operation Menai Bridge, and Chuck’s plans to have prominent roles for the entire Sussex family, including his grandkids.
The mysterious pub summit, we all wondered why. Why outside of the palace?
I think the answer lies in the anti-Sussex factions both among the palace courtiers and certain members of the family, who love to spill tea to the press.
Charles knows who the leakers to the press are in his orbit, because he uses them when it suits him. He also knows who to cut off to get what he wants.
He wants Harry and his family at the funeral.
Harry and Meghan must have negotiated well, because not only were Seabiscuit Sidepiece and Billy Basher cut out and caught off guard (Camilla drove over to Highgrove at the last minute? Haha), but the hateful courtiers also had no clue (hence the BP rooms nonsense). Because the H&M haters in the palaces didn’t know, the Rota WhatsApp was caught on the back foot as well. And Alderton was actually forced out. That’s a big victory for H&M.
Someone HAS been talking though because we have gotten tidbits – Eden’s Project Thaw, that weird story about Harry wanting Archie to attend Eton (which makes sense if someone knew that Harry wanted the kids to attend school there even for a year and someone heard that but got it twisted), etc. No major leaks, nothing like Dan Wootton and Sussexit – but enough that we know this has been discussed for a while on some level, and William is not happy about it.
“knowing their options might be very limited when, and if, William becomes king.”
Excuse me? And if??
Yeahhhhh someone’s getting bold, aren’t they?
Between little slips like this, and the courtiers admitting that they’ve been begging William get anger management treatment, presumably to no avail because :gestures at the apoplectic one: … I mean, his dad literally outranks him but it doesn’t stop him screaming at his King.
The press, courtiers, and government have been desperate to hide Billy Basher’s rages, his inadequacy and incompetence for decades. It all started coming to a head when Harry dipped and said he wouldn’t be Bill’s scapegoat anymore.
There’s no hiding Billy’s true nature now. Everyone sees what he truly is, an uncontrollable rage filled creature who is fundamentally incapable of emotional regulation. Which is a dangerous person to place on any throne. They made Edward VIII abdicate for less.
Honestly H&Ms return is the smaller story. There are much weightier shoes about to drop. The government has to decide if William is going to present a danger to them, the nation, and the monarchy, and if he is, what are they going to do about this. They know they need to have a plan in place well before Chuck pops his clogs. If the Sussexes’ temporary relocation is in fact related to Operation Menai Bridge, time is rapidly running out.
If WanK are pulling their hair out, could it be because they’ve been told they’re on the brink of being disinherited/excluded from the succession in favor of their son?
“an uncertain place in the royal pecking order”
There’s no uncertainty about any of this: Prince Harry is and will remain fifth in line, Prince Archie sixth, Princess Lilibet seventh. What the RF and BM are afraid of is the Sussexes “overshadowing” Willnot and Cannot whenever they dare as much as breathe, not even mentioning leaving the house — despite everyone reassuring the adoring public it’s all about the king and his heir.
“Mr Fitzwilliams added the decision was evidence the Sussexes were a ‘disastrous failure in the US’”
If I only were a disastrous failure like the Duke and Duchess of Success, with hundreds of millions in the bank. Add to that the love and respect the Sussexes have for each other, the kids who are allowed to be kids — not some assistant branch manager of a Savings and Loan somewhere in the middle of nowhere… Yes, big failure, gigantic failure — unlike Bulliam the Incandescent Master of Disaster.
Sure, that’s why William and Kate are so afraid and pulling out their hair. And that’s why the news has been dominating the BM since it broke. “Failures,” sure.
Is it possible that Harry felt the duty to return because William is about to stroke out from all this apoplexy and incandescent rage and George will need a regent?
(just kidding, but really not)
I honestly believe that the government is considering whether William’s ascension would present a danger to the nation.
He’s incapable of emotional regulation, cannot be reasoned with, and has no respect for others. He screams at his own father, the King.
The point of the monarchy, diplomatically, is exertion of soft power. Charles understood the brief. Elizabeth understood the brief.
William can’t/won’t even read the brief, and if chided he chews it up angrily instead.
Billy’s own behaviour is even more egregious than that of Edward VIII. Billy is a loose cannon. The decision to let him destroy the UK government or sideline him to ensure stability for the country has come due.
If H&M are in the UK willingly, that means Chuck’s last days are imminent. Chuck had the reconciliation in train a year ago. It was put in the Telegraph in June 2025.
I’ll be very curious how the government plans for this, and how the press reaction will be. I imagine those who’ve made their careers in the last decade by smearing H&M, will be freaking out at the potential prospect of Prince Henry, Regent.
The judge that was recently influenced by the courtiers to throw H and Elton’s court case in favor of the tabs might be regretting a few life choices as well.
Willy attempting to sabotage Harry backfired on him. Now the citizens can compare Harry and Meghan doing real work as non-working royals to the heir and his wife’s photo op “work” that they pay taxes for. It will look bad for Willy and his wife “working” while Harry and Meghan are in town and then back to their laziness as soon as they’re gone. Also, the wife is going to have her mood board present once again in her face emphasizing her lack of style. Someone on social media pointed out that George is supposed to enter Eton the same day of Harry’s Invictus event and the royal commentators are already suggesting that they will be at Harry’s event and therefore Harry will receive all the headlines. That’s the kiss of dead for the supposedly relevant roles.
For George’s sake I hope the media does spend more time at the Invictus event. Having your parents make you take the back to school pictures is embarrassing enough (it was for me, yet I made my son do it too! LOL) without a pack of RR starving for some news/photo ops at the gates too.
The only positive thing about Harry and Meghan going back to the UK is the knowledge that William is incandescent with rage right now lol
IMO, the only positive thing about the Sussexes moving back to the UK is knowing Will and Kate are spiraling into the abyss of madness, despair, and fury.
There is just something so delicious about this and I’m trying not to laugh too much and accrue my own bad karma but it’s hard.
The article says William “will look closely at their titles”, William has no say or control over their titles. Only Parliament can revoke them and that is a very slippery slope as titles are either hereditary or not. They can’t have it both ways.
Feels like KP projection.
If anything, Parliament may be scrutinizing WanK’s titles.
Government has a big decision to make and they cannot continue to kick the can down the road as Charles approaches his final days.
William is even less unfit to reign than Edward VIII. The government knows it, the press knows it, the courtiers and the family know it. Everyone knows how disastrous having a loose cannon like William in the shiny hat would be.
If they’re planning succession without him, it would explain a lot of his rages.
If there have been discussions about tapping Hazza as Regent that have been leaked to Billy, that would also explain the rages.
It would be interesting if this Sussex year in the UK included Charles preparing Harry for the duties of Regency, in case Charles is incapacitated by his illness towards the end. It’s clear Charles does not trust his eldest son and heir to steer the ship of state.
The thing is, with WanK, I think it’s not just a matter of laziness. I mean. They are lazy as can be, but I geninely think it’s more than that. They’re just not able to pull their weight as they would need to do in order to justify this role. The UK monarchy is a very baroque, billion-pound top-heavy monarchy, compared to the “bicycling monarchies” on the Continent, that operate with lower overhead, and fewer palaces, etc….. but it did historically do an awful lot more work, both behind the scenes and in public view. Philip and Elizabeth set a blistering pace for anyone who would come after them, and Charles — for all his personal flaws — clearly has the same work ethic. William received the best education the UK can possibly offer a child, he was apparently happily married, their kids are well and the excuse that they need to tend to them for hours a day lapsed long ago. So that was never the reason we never saw them. It was given out as the reason but I suspect there are reasons they simply can’t discuss. They seem both deeply troubled individually and their marriage is one I would not wish on my worst enemy. So — yeah — this is not a model with a long-term viability. If there were a board of directors for the BRF, they’d be looking at a change of personnel.
It is harder for him to hide as Prince of Wales and it will not really be possible to hide as King. I have always said that William is the Emperor with no Clothes – and when he’s King the UK will forced to see that he has been naked the whole time.
I thought they both hated Britain and would never return . Particularly Meghan . What happened for such a big Uturn?
When did they say that?
They haven’t.
Harry in particular has always said that he wanted his children to experience his home country, and he’s returned to the UK several times a year since the Sussexit.
If they want to live there for awhile when the children are still young, and Charles is still alive, then why not?
Kate seemed set to ride the “I had cancer once probably” train off into the sunset and never assume a “full” workload again. It’ll be interesting to see if she decides she’s going to work more after all once Sussexes are back.
“It provokes a crisis for the media because the media’s responses are often poor when they don’t know what to expect…”
