Angelina Jolie & Michael Fassbender are not going to work together… for now

Back in April, I nearly had to quit this job and start writing sexually explicit Michael Fassbender-Angelina Jolie fan fiction full time. It was widely reported that Fassy and Jolie would soon be at work together on Ridley Scott’s adaptation of Cormac McCarthy’s The Counselor. Well, Fassbender is still very much attached to the film, but it looks like Angelina is out. Perhaps Brad Pitt found another way to Fassdong-block her? If you were Brad Pitt and you knew your baby-mama was considering a job that involved writhing around with Michael Fassbender (once again, this is just in my fan fiction version), wouldn’t you put your foot down? Fassbender is the relationship dealbreaker. But it’s good news for Cameron Diaz, who now seems like she’s got the role meant for Angelina?

No, you’re not reading this wrong: Cameron Diaz is joining Ridley Scott’s “The Counselor,” taking the role previously eyed by Angelina Jolie. And yes, we’re just as surprised as you are.

Twitch have broken the news, marking a rather surprising twist in the casting of the highly anticipated film based on a spec script by literary master Cormac McCarthy. In a project that has seen a ton of names come up to bat looking to for a role, Diaz is a name that hasn’t been mentioned, and really, isn’t quite in the same calibre as the other talent involved. But it looks like she has impressed all the right people and is taking on a role that is very much outside her wheelhouse.

Reports have bene conflicting about which roles actresses have sought, but according to Twitch, Jolie was looking at the role of Malkina (some said she was toying with the smaller part of Laura), the Almodóvarean femme fatale of the film. Penelope Cruz was last reported to be kicking the tires on the part but it looks like the Brad Pitt/Angelina Jolie power couple casting for the movie won’t be panning out. Sorry tabloids. But hell, this marks the bravest role Diaz has taken on, well, ever.

The story follows an attorney (Michael Fassbender) who is in search of a big payday after he proposes to his girlfriend, Laura. So he hooks up with Reiner (Bardem), an acquaintance with deep criminal ties, for a new business proposition: they’ll take $20 million worth of cocaine from south of the border and offload it themselves, aided by the no-good Westray (Pitt). As you might imagine, things do not go well for anyone involved. In the script, Malkina is a hyper-sexualized Argentinean woman who’s hooked up with Reiner, and it’s pretty meaty part all around. But obviously, it has be tweaked to fit Diaz and like we said, she’s never really done anything like this ever, so it’s a ballsy move.

[From Indie Wire]

Yes, I heard rumors that Angelina was thinking about doing a glorified cameo as the fiancée, not the hot-to-trot lady. So maybe Camy will end up with the meaty role and Angelina still might play Fassy’s fiancée? Or we could just wait until the Cleopatra casting sorts itself out. CoughFassyIsMarcAntonycough. Anyway, it’s assumed that Jolie backed away from this potential commitment because filming Maleficent will probably take up her whole summer.

Speaking of Maleficent, The Hollywood Reporter has some interesting additions to the cast. Elle Fanning will be playing Aurora (the princess), Sharlto Copley will play “the half-human, half-fairy bastard son of the human king” (WTF?). And Imelda Staunton (I love her) and Miranda Richardson have just joined the cast – they’ll be playing Knotgrass and Flittle “two of the three pixies who end up taking care of Aurora.” Oh, and that young actor Sam Riley will be in it too. He’s in On the Road – he’s got that weird, haunting beauty – apparently he’s playing “Diaval, a raven who changes into human form and is Maleficent’s right hand.”

Keep a short leash on her Brad, you know how Angie Jo rolls:-)

  2. Fyofeelings says:

Damn you Brad Pitt for blocking!

    • Red Granny says:

      +1

WE WANT HOTNESS! And Cameron is far, far, far away from being hot.

    • Rice says:

Yes! Double damn to you Mr. Spit! You Fassyblocker!

    • Rhea says:

I was really hoping for a movie where she get to cast along with a male actor who also has a strong presence in a movie…argghhh!!!

    • pwal says:

Okay… since when had Brad Pitt been responsible for Angelina’s film selections? Every other day, some of you depict Brad as some ball-less wonder and Angelina as balls-wealthy. And yet, when Angelina does something that disappoints you, like being too thin or in this case, not running to work with Fassy, it has to be Brad’s fault.

Make up your minds, people. Or maybe the better advice is to stop wishing and hoping that Angelina should live out fantasies that you’re too cowardly to pursue.

      • Michael Kelly says:

Ouch!. That was right on the money. Congrats!!

      • Orly says:

        You’re so passionate, pwal. Sheesh.
        😀

      • Ducky La Rue says:

I don’t know – I thought most of the replies here were tongue-in-cheek. Didn’t realize it was “serious business”. 🙂

      • pwal says:

Hmmm… I don’t think I’m being overly passionate, at least, not in contrast to those who are spitting nails at someone who likely had nothing to do with the change in casting.

I am annoyed that some will plunge themselves into despair, less about Angelina and Fassy not working together, but more about the possibility that they won’t fcuk. Actually, it’s more about some loving Angelina if and only she engage in negative, sketchy, skeevy behavior that they are too cowardly to do themselves. If anything, Fassy would be appreciative of the welcoming vag being offered on here, especially if they are anonymous and gone immediately. But because Angelina is strong, the likelihood of someone telling her to take a walk doesn’t seem possible. But since the Angelina scenario isn’t going to happen versus an anonymous, welcoming vag telling Fassy to take a walk… let’s hate Brad.

Just seem misguided and, dare I say, dumb.

      • LittleDeadGirl says:

I have to say most of the responses aren’t usually that passionate and are tongue in cheek. Most of us are kidding, and I imagine so is Kaiser, about writing hot fanfiction involving Angie and Fassbender.

You can say some of it get’s passionate but please refrain from calling all of us cowardly perverts that would love to have a roll in the hay with Fassenber and crawl out of bed the moment he kicks us out without saying a word cause apparently we’re all weak and skeevy. No need to resort to insults, dear.

      • Red Granny says:

        @ pwal:
There is such thing as FUN in life, you know? Relax!

      • wasa says:

        super serious business, ducky!

      • Eve says:

I agree with Orly, Ducky La Rue, LittleDeadGirl, Red Granny and Wasa: we’re mostly having fun here.

And I don’t like being called a coward. The reason why I don’t pursue such fantasies in real life is very simple: nowhere near me the men are as hot as the ones around Jolie (or any other famous actress). Believe me, if I had the chance, I’d pursue my fantasies (bravely).

    • wasa says:

      can we over-vote him, please?

  3. Eve says:

Sharlto Copley will play “the half-human, half-fairy bastard son of the human king” (WTF?)

Sharlto Copley will be in this??????

I’m officially freaking out right now!!!

By the way, I was mostly attracted to him as a 2/3 human, 1/3 prawn in District 9 (don’t judge), so I’m fine with him playing a strange looking creature again.

    • Tiffany27 says:

I LOVE District 9! Copley is hot!

      • Eve says:

Yes, he is! But I’m more attracted to him as Wikus Van De Merwe — better put: Prawnkus Van De Merwe — than his usual, natural self.

        Again, don’t judge.

    • Mia 4S says:

OMG, the description of Copley’s character is hilarious! He is supposed to be playing King Steffen, Aurora’s father, but yeah I like the article’s description much better, LOL!

  4. Charlotte says:

    Her face is just mesmerising.

  5. mln76 says:

I get frustrated that she keeps turning down such good scripts. Gravity is supposed to be amazing. I wouldn’t be shocked if Sandra got Oscar #2. The Counselor also looks to be such a good cast and script. I wonder if Brad is still taking a role?
At least Maleficent sounds like it’s being handled really well. Shartlo Copley, Ellie Fanning, Imelda Stauton and Miranda Richardson are all top notch talent.

    • Janet says:

Poor O will be devastated. She thinks Angie can’t get anybody to work with her.
      😆

    • lol says:

How can you mln76 say something like that? Angelina’s greatest roles is being Brad’s bride to be and the mother of his children. You should bask in that glory and forget that Angelina once had a career.

How can you be disappointed in her movie choices? Look at how much she’s given to her fans in past couple of years. A great romance epic like The Tourist, a thrilling and completely unpredicatble action movie like Salt. Weren’t the wigs she wore in that movie fabulous? How could you forget her 10 minute role Kung Fu Panda. Oscar worthy. Now you have Maleficient to look forwarding to in 2014. Sure it will come out after all the other fairy tale movies have already been made but who cares if it will seen as worn out movie concept by then.

She’s come such a long way. Who would have thought the actress who started off in boring movies like Gia, Girl Interrupted, George Wallace would one day be working in movies like Kung Fu Panda 2 and Maleficient.

Anyways, who cares about Angelina’s career? Angelina sure doesn’t and neither should you. Rejoice in that fact that she’s such a dutiful wife that she schedules in her movie roles to fit around Brad’s important career. Of course, Brad is still in the movie.

      • Katelyn says:

I hope this comment is a joke if not, you’re disgusting.

      • The other LoL says:

I agree with this lOl. Angelina is nothing more than a baby machine and homewrecker these days. She had potential but she threw it away to be a homewrecker and baby machine for Brad Pitt.

      • Red Granny says:

… the funny things people smoke …

      • Kara Ann says:

I recognize and love sarcasm. I laughed out loud.
I do think that Angelina has been a disappointment as far as her expected career trajectory.

      • lol says:

So I guess sarcasm only works when you spell it out word for word. Boo. Atleast Kara Ann got it.

      • cameron says:

I find it interesting that the people who kept commenting that they were tired of hearing Angie say that she was going to act in less movies and that she found her love in directing and enjoyed spending time with her young kids ..And now that she’s keeping her word there’s still a problem.
Quite honestly, I wouldn’t want to see Angie in some hot sex scene with Fassy when I know she loves Brad and is a mother of six. You’re probably not going to see Angie in the future in a nude sex scene with another man.
Isn’t it obvious by now that the femme fatale Angie in her early 20’s is not the Angie in her mid-30’s with six kids.
        So give it a break.

      • lol says:

Well cameron, all I can say is thank god other actresses don’t think like Angelina does about her career. Penelope Cruz, an actress who is 38 years old, married and has a child will be playing the femme fatale role in the movie.

      • wasa says:

penelope will be awesome, i think

    • cameron says:

      @lol
Good for Penelope Cruz but we’re talking about Angie and she said that she found a love in directing and would be acting in less films..
It’s reproted that Cameron Diaz landed the role that Angie was allegedly playing, not PC.

      • lol says:

If she found love in directing and writing then why even bother being an actress? If she wants to make it clear she has no passion for acting, then she shouldn’t be wasting anyone’s time. In one interview she says she can’t wait to retire from acting and in the next she talks about the directors she wants to work with. What is she waiting for? She has plenty of money to retire. She purposely keeps stringing along her fans.

The report you read was wrong. Cameron is going to be playing the wife/girlfriend role. Penelope will play the femme fatale. Oh well, it’s nice to see two actresses get work that actually care about acting. If Angelina wants to crawl her way to permanent retirement by making one crappy movie every few years , that’s her perogative.

      • Missy says:

Too bad for her no one else has found a love for her directing, and let’s face it, the only movies anyone wants to really see her in is tomb raider style ones where she looked hot in tight clothes and fights and shoots things, that’s her fortay and she shouldn’t stray from it.

      • wasa says:

        she always looks hot

  6. Chatcat says:

As much as I am glad Ang is not doing this role/film with Fassy…Cameron Diaz…really? I can not conjure up any images that these two could have any chemistry on film. He is soooo talented and she is, well not.

  7. Brittney says:

I agree with mln76 that she keeps disappointing me by not taking these great roles… but who knows how attached she ever was to begin with?

And Kaiser, I have no idea how you choose photographs for your Angelina stories. There are literally hundreds of thousands of perfect shots, and I would hate to have to be the one to pick a few from the batch.

    • cameron says:

Why are some so disappointed? Angie has said over the past two years that she wanted to act in less movies, spend more time with her children and concentrate on directing. She looked forward to Malificient because it was something for Shiloh to enjoy.
I guess some fans and non-fans didn’t believe her.
      She’s getting older, priorities change.
What you did, wore, and looked like in your 20’s most likely changes in your 30’s and 40’s especially when you have children.
At least I would hope so.

      • zut alors! says:

I understand Angie is older and hopefully wiser. What I am most disappointed with in her, are the quality of the film roles she chooses, not the quantity.

She turned down Gravity with Cuaron only to turn around and consider doing a movie with Luc Besson?! What the bloody hell idiotic thinking went in to that decision?! Thank goodness the Besson movie didn’t pan out.
Let’s face, Cleopatra is NOT going to happen; at least not with Jolie in the lead role. She does not have the draw that’s required to make the movie a financial success the way that Sony/Columbia envisions it if they spend upwards of $100 million on the production. It’ll have to do Hunger Games type box office to make money and let’s face it, Angie ain’t got what it takes to put butts in movie seats. While I am on the subject, I very much doubt the Salt sequel will happen either. The first one was mediocre and not a moneymaker. At this point does anyone want to pay good money to watch Olive Oyl try to do action movies?! You saw what happened at the Oscars. She tried to be sexy cool and the whole internet laughed at her including those on the stage with her. How mortifying!

Angie seems very invested in her current “lady of the manor” role she’s chosen for her public self. She seems to put a lot of effort in it as well as maintaining her pseudo diplomatic credentials. She takes herself way too seriously. As a former fan I can’t get behind this joyless, uptight version of her. I think as far as movies are concerned, she will keep on churning out dreck and take a backseat until Brad wins his Oscar. By then it will be too late for her career but hey she will be Mrs. Brad Pitt. For some, that seems to the pinnacle of her existence. Yay Angie!

      • Emma says:

Most actresses (real actresses, not “celebrities”) aspire to achieve an oscar, as that is considered the pinnacle of acting recognition.

Angelina Jolie got an oscar at a very young age considering (25 i believe), so I get the feeling she herself feels she’s proved herself and there’s no need to do these heavy oscar bait movies like Kate Winslet does all the time.

She’s doing movies for fun now…ie: that’s why she did Kung Fu Panda, Salt, The Tourist…she expalined that Kung Fu Panda was for her kids, Salt was to do something physical after being pregnant with twins, and the Tourist was because she loved the beautiful filming locations.

As for your other statements…were you ever truly a fan, or just saying that so you can try to pretend as if “look, everyone is getting tired of Jolie”

It’s sad, but most actresses just don’t have box office pull….the actors do, but not females. That said, Jolie currently is one of if not the only bankable female A lister. Who we consider A lister like Kidman, Roberts, Weisz, Witherspoon, Berry and endless other B+/A- lister actresses have all bombed in the previous two years while Jolie’s only two in front of screen movies in that time period were big successes for Sony.

Salt 300 million and the Tourist 280 million for 100-110 million budgets…The other so called relevant stars all BOMBED, as in their films lost money.

And honestly, do you think the Hunger Games’ success was due to Jennifer lawrence, Alice in wonderland due to Anne Hathaway? Or Rosie Huntington Whitely for Transformers?

Jolie actually CAN get people into seats because she’s a huge draw worldwide, while the other actresses are average/mediocre both US and worldwide.

Plus imitation is the greatest form of flattery – I think most people thought it was great that Jolie showed off her fun side at the oscars. Only blinded haters see it as something bad – I mean like I pointed out with FACTS unlike your baseless assumptions, Jolie’s box office results indicate she’s a huge draw – the only really relevant actress at the moment with power.

      • Loren says:

        @ Emma

I agree, I mean who else does the above poster want to play Cleopatra?

  8. Janet says:

Can somebody help me out here? Is this an original script by McCarthy or is the film based on one of his books?

He’s a devastatingly good writer (“Blood Meridian” blew me out of my shoes and “The Road” had me in tears) but I never heard of any book of his called “The Counselor”. Where did this script come from?

    • mln76 says:

      original screenplay

      • Janet says:

OK thanks. If he’s as good a screenwriter as he is a novelist, this should be a fantastic movie. Every single book I’ve read by him is terrific, except for “Suttree”. I just couldn’t get into that one, for some reason.

    • Aotearovian says:

He’s wonderful, isn’t he? Like a darker Hemingway, to my mind.

Based on what I’ve read about The Counselor, this is Cormac McCarthy’s first original screenplay, and is so strong that it was picked up and went into pre-production with very atypical speed.

      • Janet says:

I wish they could make a movie of his “Blood Meridian” but I don’t see how they could ever make a film that could be run onscreen that is faithful to the book.

  9. cr says:

That’s a nice way of putting it! I don’t dslike her, but she’s not really the world’s greatest actress.

  10. Aiobhan says:

From Prada to nada. This is so disappointing; I was actually looking forward to seeing this film for Angie and Fassy alone. But now will now need to curb my enthusiasm due to Cam’s involvement. She had a chance a few years ago with that film that she did with Jordana Brewster (not saying much about her talent when you can outshine JB) but now she is just another waste of talent. Maybe she will surprise us all but I highly doubt that.

I stared at that photo of Angie for a full minute. God that woman is the definition of stunning!

  11. surprise says:

she’s pregnant! (just thought I’d get a jump on tabs)

  12. LucyOriginal says:

love Fassie’s photo from NYFF2011. The good memories, 🙂

I wonder when the Jolie-Fassbender action will happen (professionally people, professionally).

    • Eve says:

Apparently…never — as long as Pitt the Cockblocker is around.

      Boo.

      • LucyOriginal says:

Oh, Eve. That was priceless! The cockblocker, hahahaha. I almost fell out of my chair, LOL.

    • Red Granny says:

Every night in your dirty, dirty mind 😉

    • emma bee says:

i remember when you wrote about breathing the same air as Fass last year!

& i agree with kaiser: cleopatra & marc antony for a & m. and nice photo selection. that second photo of angelina is…she’s SOOOO beautiful.

      • LucyOriginal says:

I remember as if it happened yesterday, :). Will the world conspire in my favor again? *sigh*

  13. lower-case deb says:

i stared at that emerald necklace for… i don’t know. time flies.

*i feel like a raven, attracted to shiny things*
but hey. that’s one pretty stone she got.

    • Ducky La Rue says:

I know! I was never all that impressed with emeralds until I saw the ones she wears. I guess when you get a high-end stone, wow – that colour just pops! Gorgeous.

    • wasa says:

i like how they are chunky but still classy

  14. Sophia says:

Yeah she’s a big name, but is she really that great an actress? Even in relation to Diaz? No, they’re just as mediocre as each other.

    • Leen says:

Angelina is a fantastic actress. I often forget how great she really is because she seems to be going for not-so-amazing roles in the last 5 years. Girl Interrupted, Gia, Foxfire, A Mighty Heart, just to name a few great movies where Angelina really delivered.

    • ZenB!tch says:

I don’t know what the role is but they are very different types. I don’t see Cameron taking over for Angelina nor Angelina taking over for Cameron.

    • wasa says:

Yes, she is. But she likes action movies more than dramas.

  15. diane says:

Condolensces to Ridley, fassy and…… Kaiser.
But plsss Brad Pitt as Marc Antony!! That is fan fic coming true 🙂

  16. Jersey Girl says:

Aw, Brad feels threatened by the mighty Fassdong. Understandable, but a total dick move (no pun intended) on his part! Sigh, only in a perfect world…

  17. Katelyn says:

Why is the media acting like Cameron Diaz stole this role from Angelina? As if any self respecting casting agent would cast Cameron over Angelina. Angelina has a commitment to Maleficent which films at the same time this movie does.

  18. Stacie says:

This makes me so sad . I LOVE them Both so much and was praying that they would work together. SAD 🙁

  19. Victoria says:

Fassy is the hotest man in movies and Angie will not let him slip away. They will do something together.

Come on! Spanking Knightly and beating up Gina in Haywire…how can she let him slip away? He’s perfect for her. Unless he is an ass in real life. Did you see him on Top Gear?

Unless she is saving him for Marc Antony.

  20. Alexis says:

Fassy wouldn’t be interested in pale, sickly Skeletina, anyway. Brad has no need to worry.

    • Anahata says:

      LOL

    • Emma says:

Yeah she’s not his type, but apparently she’s the majority of people’s views of hollywood beauty worldwide…so I guess skeletina is doing pretty well.

    • ZenB!tch says:

I was thinking the other way around – she is beautiful, he is not.

    • lower-case deb says:

just a really honest curious question here.
is she wearing a wig or weaves or hairplugs?
i mean, isn’t hair loss one of the most visible indication of malnourishment?

(at least, that’s my personal experience during my college days. i really have a bad thesis experience, i lost a lot of weight really quickly and i my hair started falling off, and i never had long hair to begin with. it’s scary the amount of hair i lost everyday, like i’m genuinely scared).

(the GP told me that i need to gain some weight and that malnourishment (college crash diet, i can barely eat for weeks because of anxiety) makes the hair loss even faster).

(now, i’m eating healthily again, or trying to, since i want to give a good example to my kids, but i can’t grow my hair longer than shoulder-length. if i do, they start falling off again).

so, yeah, i’m curious about that.

  21. Red Granny says:

Why is Angelina the only one who can rock a darker lip contour?

  22. ZenB!tch says:

She saw that photo and ran. Ewww! He makes Johnny Depp look not smelly. That photo turned my stomach. It’s screaming halitosis.

    #teamAngie

    • wasa says:

My guess is: She likes ´em wild, uncombed and smelly. Like real life´s Aragorns.

  23. stellalovejoydiver says:

I´m excited for Maleficent, I love Sam Riley since he played Ian Curtis in Control.
As far as casting Diaz in the Counselor… bitch please… as a badass Argentian? She just screams desperation lately.
What about Eva Greene, Jennifer Connelly, Mila Kunis,Emily Blunt, Rachel McAdams, Jill Hennessy(Crossing Jordan), Rachel Weisz god even Eva Mendes would probably be a better choice… shouldn´t her relationship with RG start to pay off?
    Seriously I´m completly turned off.

  24. Maritza says:

Who cares which actors play the roles? It’s not like they are discovering the cure for cancer. Actors are paid exorbitant amounts of money for just pretending to be other people.

    • Red Granny says:

I care, because some actoresses (a.k.a. Cameron) can´t pull off anything.

  25. LittleDeadGirl says:

That’s sad. She’s one of the few actresses’ I’ve love to see opposite of him. I want to see him with someone who has a strong onscreen presence. Diaz is not it. There are others of course but I hope they choose well.

  26. CHRISTIAN_GIRL says:

Once again, Angie does what she wants to do.

Complaints of Her leaving Gravity, well what about RDJ, he left right after her.

I want her to work her plan, whatever it is, it is right for her.

Blaming Brad is beyond silly. Unless he was crying (tab fav), how is he stopping her?

They can work together as a team quite well, other than that we don’t know why she turns roles down. Something is not all there, or timing, or location or whatever, but she knows her business. We just don’t know. She may have something else planned. When 1 door closes etc…

    • Rhea says:

OMG. You are right. They didn’t write down that Brad was crying his eyes out begging Angie to drop this movie. So this must be a fake story! 😉 😀

  27. wasa says:

“I nearly had to quit this job and start writing sexually explicit Michael Fassbender-Angelina Jolie fan fiction full time.”

    lol

  28. mln76 says:

Just to clarify I’m disappointed because I want to see her in a good role that she would kick ass in.
I don’t blame Brad in the least. And I understand that she has 6 kids and doesn’t want to be away from them along with all of her other obligations.
I’m just sad for selfish reasons because it’ll be a full 2 years between her films.

Angie is in a position where she gets first pick of scripts and other A-list actresses-Bullock, Theron, Diaz and Lawrence are as Jennifer Lawrence said ‘picking through Angelina’s trash’. I just wish she’d have done at least one of the really juicy scripts that have come onto her desk but by all accounts Maleficent is a project that has legs so fingers crossed it will be worth the wait.

  29. Nibbi says:

    Fassbender as Marc Antony?
    (brain melts)

  30. angelina says:

    angelina is so amazing..
