Robert Pattinson has a new interview! I guess he’s promoting Dior Homme, which means that he’s officially done more press for a cologne than he did for Cosmopolis. Sparkles spoke to Harper’s Bazaar Arabia about his body image, how much he hates to exercise, and what he likes in a woman. I know all of the Kristen fan-girls think that I apply a double-standard to Rob, but I can’t help but like Rob’s interviews a lot. He gives a good interview. Kristen, not so much. Kristen’s interviews are always noteworthy, for sure, but mostly for how awkward and ill-prepared she is. Anyway, enjoy some new sparkly quotes:
He doesn’t have a six-pack: “I think I don’t get some jobs because I don’t go to the gym. I am literally the only actor in LA who doesn’t have a six-pack. Although I am going to have to change that.”
But he’s thinking about hitting the gym: “In my next film I have like three intimate scenes so I am literally thinking of those to get in shape… I don’t ever want anyone to see me doing exercise. Even though I am doing it, I still think it’s so lame and embarrassing; I am doing it out of necessity, that’s all.”
The Hollywood scene: “It’s not really me so I have never really felt attached to it”– but also recognizes that he is the object of intense public scrutiny. “It’s an amazing job, especially if you don’t let yourself go crazy, but there are loads of jobs that make you go crazy… I am very anti-paparazzi, but I guess you kind of get used to the thing. In fact I just started getting better at hiding,” he adds. “As soon as you figure out a way to live where people don’t follow you around, stress levels go down.”
On the end of Twilight & the end of his relationship with Kristen: “Yeah, it’s a whole bunch of stuff happening at the same time and I am just not worrying about things so much. I guess it just happens. I also bought a house and I was literally doing that up and fixing pipes.”
His Dior campaign: “I kept saying from the beginning I wanted to be really physical. I have done quite a few films in a row where it is all about stillness. I was watching the Dior scenes back in the monitor and thinking I look older now. I have always been so self-conscious about looking like a little kid and people not really believing me, so I wanted to do a film about masculinity and this was kind of the perfect opportunity.”
What he wants in a woman: “It’s that thing… Someone knowing who they are, it’s the best. I guess because it is like the opposite of what I am – I am so all over the place,” When asked about the way women dress, again Rob insisted it was more about confidence than style, saying: “If someone looks good in their clothes it’s because they are comfortable in their own skin – it’s literally just like owning it. Oh no! That is so lame, I feel like I am on Project Runway saying ‘own that’.”
He was obsessed with Kate Moss: “I was obsessed with her, it was a bit ridiculous. The other poster I had up was Linda Blair in the Exorcist, so they were my two options – a little girl possessed and Kate Moss.”
[From Celebrity Health Fitness]
First of all, I love the Project Runway reference. It takes a man confident in his TV viewing habits to drop that in there. Because, obviously, Sparkles has gotten stuck on Project Runway marathons before, probably when he was “fixing his pipes” and being manly. I bet he secretly loves Tim Gunn.
The only thing I really have to shade is the talk about how he’s not really into the Hollywood scene – I beg to differ. Maybe that was true a year ago, two years ago, but now he’s got a big mansion in Hollywood and he’s got all of these Hollywood friends and he’s a regular at the Chateau Marmont and the Troubadour… it’s too cute by half for Rob to act like this isn’t his scene. It’s his scene. He could have very easily moved back to England and still been able to come to LA merely to work.

I agree that he is Hollywood. He just isn’t owning it & there is no shame in loving Tim Gunn. He is awesome.
+1 He has become VERY Hollywood over the last two years. and yes, Tim Gunn is awesome!
Rob is the best thing that has happened in Hollywood in a long time. I absolutely love this guy. The Dior ad was all Rob and then some. Great guy.
Well, let’s not go crazy now. 🙂
he uses the word “literally” far too much, kind of annoying. I’d still hit but I might have to gag him for a bit..
Yes.
I’m past the point of annoyed, literally.
/sorry, I couldn’t resist 😛
Yep, same here. I was also going post about how much he says “literally”. I want to bang my head against the wall when people misuse this word. Along with your instead of you’re, are instead of our, there instead of their…the list goes on and on. Yes, I’m a grammar snob and not ashamed. At least I don’t correct people (as much as I would like to).
Yes… Disappointing when an Englishman can’t speak English.. Maybe Rob needs a proper education before he worries about his abs.
I am looking forward to the Manly Sparkles. It’s gonna be a whole new era!
Yes I can now say people using the word “literally” when it doesn’t relate to what they mean is becoming a bit annoying.
Literally the only actor without a six pack; I’m sure Jonah Hill and Zach Galifianakis would beg to differ.
Yes (it almost seems like a nervous tic the way he overuses it) and yes. Lol.
I also can’t stand when people say irregardless.
It’s not even a word!!
And far too stupidly.
A ridiculously hyperbolic statement on his part. The “only” one? *snort*
ITA on the hit it/gag it.
Oh god yes. I like Rob a lot but his overuse of ‘literally’ made me cringe.
That caught my eye too. If you’re going to use a word all the time, at least try to use it correctly.
Could be worse… He could be peppering every other word with “like”
I feel like if this was any other celebrity he would be mocked for such a lame interview, I ‘literally’ have never heard literally used so many times in a row!
I am literally the only actor in LA who doesn’t have a six-pack.
In my next film I have like three intimate scenes so I am literally thinking of those to get in shape.
I also bought a house and I was literally doing that up and fixing pipes.
If someone looks good in their clothes it’s because they are comfortable in their own skin – it’s literally just like owning it.
Nothing lame or embarrassing about exercising, Sparkles.
That said, I wouldn’t want anyone snapping photos of me during or after a training session either. I look like a damn mess.
His comment on exercising makes it seem like it’s a vanity thing, were he knows some pap are going to take a picture of him (maybe he looks really lame when he runs) and he’s afraid of becoming a silly meme.
I read it as he both hates it and is embarrassed by how bad he is at it (thus def doesnt want it documented). I can empathize – exercise, especially in a gym/with a machine, is one of the most anxiety-inducing things for me. I’d rather go on an 8-hr hike than do 30 min on a treadmill.
He’a Brit and they tend to be more reserve and private.
Amen, the faces I make are atrocious but the soreness after, amazing.
Re the Hollywood scene, I think he is trying to explain that he doesn’t go to places just to be seen there, or just because it’s the new hot spot. It seems he goes to places where he can’t be photographed, first and foremost.
Like Chateau Marmont, Troubador? Yeah he is really not into the LA scene.
Yeah, the places that don’t allow photographs, which is my whole point.
Plus it seems like he only hit that Chateau Marmont scene a handful of times in the peak of his KStew rebound, but otherwise he’s pretty low-key. I buy it. He’d rather go to a dive or something.
What’s so bad about exercise? In moderation it’s good for you. Maybe because he works in an environment that takes it to such extremes, he’s put off by it, but there no need to down it flat out. Plus it strange that on one hand he says he wanted more physical, but than looks down on exercising. Very contradictory.
Yeah, hanging out at Chateau Marmont is classic Hollywood scenester place, so he’s full it for that comment.
I’m going to give him the benefit of the doubt and say he probably doesn’t think exercise and fitness is “lame”, but the whole concept of him slaving away in a gym with some fancy trainer for hours on end just to achieve a Hollywood six pack is lame and embarrassing. I get that. I get how it can be a little embarrassing to be so hyper-focused on something so silly, that apparently is really important to his career.
I love muscles on men. I keep in shape myself so I guess naturally I am into men who take care of their bodies too. I get a weird feeling that exercising is seen as vein a bit these days :/ weird. We all have/are attracted to different body types. No need to hate on other body types.
He’s always talking about hating exercise and not having a fit body. What gets me is in my his magazine and this Dior ad the women are always naked while he is fully dressed. Too much of that Robin Thicke sexist double standard. If you won’t show your body the women shouldn’t have to show the it’s too.
Guy has millions he can get a home gym, a personal trainer and a dietitian to help him get in shape. Stop being whiny like it’s out of your control.
Rob shows his body plenty. Watch Cosmopolis, Little Ashes and Bel Ami. He’s naked, a lot, and he shows off a lot more than just his not quite six pack abs. I don’t think he’s nearly as self conscious or modest as he claims.
I agree with TC. It’s a total luxury that guys like him don’t have to stress about their body image.
I think if the role demands it, he should get his ass in shape (and maybe he would?).
Also, he makes it seem like it’s a s4 hr a day job just to get a six-pack. Good diet, 3-4 days of 30min cardio a week and a couple sessions of ab work and he’d probably get ripped pretty quickly. I mean, he’s 27 years old-it doesn’t take a ton of work to get fit at that age.
With all his money, it’s not tough for a young man to get in shape! Dude, even I had a six pack in my gallivanting days , so having a beer gut out of laziness is nothing to be proud of.
It’s R-Putz’s JOB to be in shape, and I don’t respect his laissez-faire or, in American terms, f-ck it attitude when his fans work harder than him everyday to make a living.
So I suspect you are equally disgusted by those actresses who choose not to conform to Hollywoods idea of what women should look like? Are they lazy and underinvested too? Hmm, sexist much?!
Oh, I am totally sexist. I appreciate a range of sizes when it comes to Hollywood women, but I love a hard bodied man to star in my finger vault for inspiration.
Lol!! Love the come-back.
Ha ha, Sloane 🙂
I posted something similar above, before I read your comment.
Just had a visual of Robbie lifting weights..too damn funny!
OMG just STFU you’re just some lame b-list actor not rocket scientist. He is so pretentious.
It seems he is a bit, isn’t he? Although I believe he tends to say totally ridiculous things in interviews, rather than reveal too much of his actual self. So maybe the pretentiousness is also a bit of a put on? And calling a totally BS on the Hollywood scene. Sorry Rob – you like to party —
What did he say that you considered to be pretentious? I’m confused.
Riiiiight. He literally hates being photographed and famous. So he literally signs up for a campaign to be the face of a brand which will literally plaster his face everywhere.
When did he say he hates being photographed? He said he hates the paparazzi. There’s a difference.
Professional, credentialed photographers who conduct photo shoots are not the same as stalkers who hide in the bushes, dig through your trash, and follow you all over town, taking photos without your permission.
He seems pretty “Hollywood” to me, there’s no shame in owning that, I know that to him, it’s part of him being ~real~ or whatever but he’s a working actor and he’s doing well, that’s more than what a lot of “actors” who move to LA can say.
He sounds like he’s trying very hard to convince himself of something. For one thing Sparkles, you took a crapload of money to see what are essentially personal hygiene products, stop trying to make us believe it’s the equivalent of a Fellini film. Too pretentious and insecure. Sparkles isn’t even fun to make fun of anymore! 😉
Way to exaggerate his comments there. He wanted to work with Romain Garvas, Dior offered him the chance to do so, and offered him some creative freedom (he is hardly claiming Fellini status here). And Dior keeps his face in the public eye so he can still make the small/weird movies he wants to make.
Oh come on! I didn’t mean it….literally. 😉
He’s full of it; they all are.
I can´t help it but I like sparkles.
Yes, I disagree with him about the Hollywood scene too. He is attached to the L.A party scene. Otherwise he could have easily moved back to London to be near his family and friends but he likes L.A too much nowadays.
A lot of celebs make excuses and say that they have to stay in L.A. to be present but it´s not about that.. its the lifestyle they want
LA is where the business is. He needs to socialize and network which he does and this leads to business. Plus he said he and his family like it in LA. What’s the big deal where he lives? and he has said that most of friends now are now scattered all over the place and that London isn’t the same for him any more.
Of course L.A. is where the business is. But lets not pretend that he still needs to network and go to auditions everyday like he is an actor still looking for his big break. His agent gets hundreds of scripts where he can choose from. I don´t care where he lives but in general I don´t like actors/ actresses who whine about paparazzi and lack of privacy when they can live wherever they want and just come to L.A. for work, but they won´t because they like the lifestyle L.A. provides them.
@lauren
Where should he move to? As if there are no paps in NYC and London 🙄 (which are the other choices he has).
and why exactly are his only other options london and nyc? you know the world has more places to offer…
There’s a part of me that appreciates his conflict with remaining who he is physically or succumbing to a Hollywood standard of men.
The only thing I’ve hated about his work ethics is that he never transformed his whole body into the character he’s portraying. The spray-on abs in Twilight was cringeworthy!
I’m so happy to hear that he’s hitting the gym for a new movie. That is really taking acting to the next level.
I think some people take Rob’s interviews way too seriously. He’s deliberately evasive in a random, humorous way, in a bid to keep something for himself. I don’t know if it get’s totally lost in translation, or if it’s a Brit versus American thing? but I don’t find him pretentious in the slightest. I do think he takes himself a little too seriously at times and maybe needs to lighten up. But I think that has a lot to do with him striving for credibility after Twilight. I still think people scrutinise him more and are more critical of him, than virtually any other young actor around. I don’t know if that’s because of the general hate for anything Twilight related or what? I also think people have misconstrued his comments regarding Hollywood. Yes he goes out, but he actively tries to avoid being papped and is often pretty successful.
I’m a Brit and I don’t think it’s a Brit thing, I will say though, that his self-depracative, sarcastic sense of humour doesn’t always translate well in articles, he can sound pretentious as hell. The way to like him is to just not take anything he says seriously.
+1 Becca, nicely said
Yes, well said Becca. It’s the way I interpret his interviews too. I think it’s a cultural thing. British humour is different to American.
My friend met him a few times when he was cast in a tv movie she wrote. Apparently he’s a decent guy.
Becca,
So you are telling us he is fake in interviews? He is not the only Brit in Hollywood. Most of us understand the interviews by other British actors and get their humor but somehow Sparkles is so unique only his worshippers get him. SMH. Falling over laughing.
T.C. – how many other Brits talk about having conversations with Buddha during exams? Or all the other crap that sparkles has spewed over the years? Love him or hate him, the guys is a bit eccentric, weird and out there in his interviews. I find him entertaining.
No I’m not saying that at all. But you’ve made your mind up about him and that’s fine. It’s certainly not my job to change it for you. I personally think he’s harmless in interviews, and evasive because he is scrutinised more than most other young actors in Hollywood. He is hounded more because of his relationship with Stewart and because the media know fans are hungry for stories. I can understand why he’d be more guarded than some.
Well, I think you hit the nail on the head. He is deliberately evasive because that’s his style. He IS deliberately evasive.
IMO, it is nothing to applaud. If he can’t show a thread of honesty, then what good is he in connecting with the world at large?
LMAO at him saying he’s not part of the “Hollywood scene.” Yeah, hanging out with Katy Pretty at Chateau Marmont and various clubs is soooooooo anti-Hollywood.
A few years back, I remember someone saying of Rob-“he’s a Brit- they hate gyms and love pubs”. I’m sure that’s not true, but still funny at the same time. In reality, who would ever want pics taken of them exercising? Goodness, if pics of me exercising ever saw the light of day, the Internet would melt!
Any guesses as to what movie he’s referring to? Can’t imagine it’s Maps to the Stars.
It was Catherine what’s her name, director of the first Twilight, who said that about Brits.
Better memory than me! Thanks!
This Brit hates gyms and loves pubs, as does pretty much everyone else I know, so there.
What ever. He looks hot in those pics so keep those coming.
Wonder what roles he didn’t get because of his body? Makes me think he wanted some blockbuster type films but realized he didnt want to put in the “work” on his body. I guess indie films are more forgiving in the physical appearance as opposed to a superhero/action film. Then again, he thinks this ad shows him being more physical than anything he has done before and I just don’t get that impression from it. Laying in a bathtub, smoking, playing the piano aren’t really all that physical. The dancing and running are shades of twilight/harry potter so he has been there, done that.
I guess he considers the Dior ad to be a film to help promote him as opposed to dior. Does he even mention how much he likes Dior? I wonder if Hollywood will see this film and think it is different than any of his work before.
I don’t think he is totally Hollywood but he does seem more Hollywood now than during twilight filming. He has an eclectic group of people that he frequents the hot spots now. Can’t say that I am thrilled that his producer friends hang with Michelle Rodriguez, Lindsay Lohan and Paris Hilton. Not to mention E L James. Seems he is on his way to becoming pretty Hollywood if you ask me. I still hold ou that he will be seen with some quality people.
Lol, he is not hanging with EL James. But then you know this already. Every Rob post you say the same thing.
ignore her. she is obsessed with rob. she will comment on every single one of his articles, and pretty much repeats herself.
Actually I thought there was a tweet about EL James at a party at rob’s house…but I could be wrong.
Christian Bale had very similar things to say about exercise. He said something along the line of exercise for the English consists of lifting a pint to the lips.
Of course, Christian Bale reformed his bod and then some!
The only actor in Hollywood without a six pack?
Yeah, Jesse Eisenberg,Firth, Fiennes, McGregor or McAvoy (they were pictured at TIFF, that’s why their names popped)are obviously cast for their glorious torsos.
And Forest Whitaker and Philipp Seymour Hoffman have retired?
He couldn’t just have gone “one of the few”, no, he had to be literally the only one. OK.
He’s talking more about him being pegged as a pretty boy or a teen idol I think and him not having the body for that really.
A bunch of “literalists” here- sorry, couldn’t resist! Believe he’s joking around with the six pack comment.
Very funny! I was thinking the same thing reading these comments.
Not to worry Sparkles, I don’t mind your absence of a six-pack. You are handsome, slim and look good in a suit. It works for me.
As someone who likes you, I’d rather see you work to improve your acting that your physique.
Stew has rubbed off on him.
The horror of it all. 😉
I think it is a British man thing. Round here it is not cool to be excessively vain, it’s considered unmanly, ergo the gym stuff being embarrassing to him.
he literally loves the word literally…
Oops. Meant to snort in appreciation of Nicole’s comment.
bwhahah, that’s what I thought too—he always overuses and incorrectly uses the word “literally” a lot. It’s funny.
Who cares about his non existent six pack. I just watched bits of ‘Bel Ami’. He looked …not handsome. As in ugly, in some shots. Well, not ugly…just weird. So I don’t see the obsession about his looks.
And as an actor, so far, not that great, IMO. In said film he seemed very modern for a period piece.
Seeing twitter rumors of him at CM or pap pics of him running out of a club is not him being hollywood. There are sooooo many others who exemplify being HOLLYWOOD. Rob doesn’t lavish in that. I see he could go home a lot – as if he’s not been working and doesn’t own a home in LA. Its a bit oxymoronic to expect him to work and say he cant stay in LA and go without that meaning he’s gone Hollywood. He’s been in LA since he before he started Twilight… NOW you guys want him to go HOME. Where to his parents house. lol. You make no sense. That’s a life change at this point. He’s been there for almost 7 years now. That’s not him being hollywood.
He seems like a cool dude. But sometimes I do just wanna tell him to sit DOWN, he’s not the first pale skinny self-deprecating British actor, nor will he be the last
I’m not a Kristen fan-girl, and it’s rather silly to think anyone who doesn’t like Rob must like her. That’s buying into a theory of gossip that is simply untrue, like if anyone criticizes Brad Pitt they must love Jennifer Aniston. Both Stewart and Pattinson are shallow doofuses who deserved each other; but a lot of the criticism of Kristen comes from a place of sexism and double-standards, and that is glaringly obvious in coverage of this particular doink.
I can’t stand the little prick. His interviews are annoying and most of his work has been for incredibly sexist projects. And I am sick and tired of hearing what he wants in a woman. He should be shutting those questions down — but what else does he have to talk about? His body and his relationships are all he talks about, over and over again. Either find something with some substance to talk about, or shut the hell up, Rob.
“doink”? OMFG – spewed coffee here. Thanks for the laugh!
Lol, he never talks about his relationships, but okaaaay.
Yeah, not a fan of him either. He whines a lot about Hollywood and its culture and tries too hard to set himself up as “not like the other [Hollywood] guys” (I’m into my music! I’m not buff! Hollywood’s not my scene! I don’t like being famous!).
+10000000
+eleventy internets to you, for saying it how it is.
“Emily C – Well except for the bit where you call her “shallow”, you do sound remarkably like one of the “rodent army” in the full flower of her hatred. If you aren’t, I can only guess he must have pissed in your cornflakes or something for you to have taken such an extreme dislike. He always seems like a decent guy to me, but then I never take anything he says seriously and I literally (sorry, couldn’t resist) don’t give a flying f*ck at a rolling donut whether somebody has a six pack or not.
@Emily C
You said that beautifully, I couldn’t agree with you more. Can’t wait for those two phony morons to go away.
Emily C., I’m late to this thread, but ITA regarding R-Putz.
I never saw any of the ‘Twilight’s’, but I do actually like Kristen Stewart’s body of work, in particular ‘Welcome to the Rileys’ with the late great James Gandolfini and the luminous Melissa Leo. Kristen sold me as an adolescent Joan Jett in ‘The Runaways’ too. She has such a unique film presence I really like that I don’t mind her Asperger’s like persona in real life.
His derpy face was plastered all over the city for a few weeks and I just gawked every time I passed them, because if that was the best photo they had of him, then Dior are the ones who came out worse out of that bargain. He is bland as oatmeal, same as his lip-bitey ex, except he used to actually be a little personable in interviews, whereas now I’m surprised he can breathe that far up his own arse.
+1
Hmm, which city was this? And yeah I think Dior is really disappointed with the over 7million hits the vids got and all the positive feedback. I’m sure they’re sooooooo disappointed. Rme.
Becca’s in love…..eye roll.
Toulouse, France
Gorram, please lose the attitude. Why is so bad to be a fan of someone?
The most annoying manchild in Hollywood. Literally.
You are not the only one honey. Leo DiCaprio is as lazy as you and never visits gym too. His poor arms never saw muscles. And I feel sorry for those poor arms every time I see them. And think how hot Leo would be if he had at least some muscles on him. And I wonder how he is not ashamed of it. He dates all those pretty looking models with great bodies after all.
And Robert – it’s not “lame and embarrassing”. Women have to take care of themselves every day. To look pretty. While men just take that for granted. And don’t look for themselves. You did not date some grey mouse with no make up, hairy legs, overweight etc. No, you dated pretty thin girl who looks after her weight and does make up everytime she goes out. So women have to take care of themselves that guy like you would date them, but you don’t want to look after yourself, you don’t even care to shave all the time… Lazy as.
St:
Yep, Robert Pattinson is an entitled boy-man who has a clear double standard when it comes to fitness.
I don’t think he views Chatteau Mormont as hollywood scene. He’s been going there before Twilight came out. I think he just views it as a hangout safe from papz.
He’s as fake as fake as they come. He actually thinks by saying he’s not part of Hollywood he’s setting himself apart as if he’s cooler, yet the hypocrite parties with 70% of Hollywood his friends are all famous that live in Hollywood, he purchased a Hollywood mansion AND YET he wants to come off as he’s just an outsider. Total fraud.
Robert Pattinson working out beginning at 0:12 until approx 1:20. Not the best of his class of the Eclipse cast.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6kmNUFZ9pg
Does he expect people to feel sorry for him or to think of him as just an average guy, because it’s a bunch of crap. He’s a millionaire celebrity, there’s nothing sad or average about that.
Ugh. I find him to be disingenuous. Literally.
Yuk please grow up and stop whining.
