Benedict Cumberbatch fan- girls, tells Harrison Ford that he ‘fantasized’ about him

cumby2

Benedict Cumberbatch has already taped his episode of Graham Norton, which airs tonight in England. It doesn’t air on BBC America until next week, I think, but it doesn’t matter because Graham Norton’s shows are put on YouTube very quickly, so I’m sure I’ll be covering the interview this weekend. These are promotional images from the show, obviously – NO CUMBERCURLS. Still, he looks good. Ben got to do the show with Harrison Ford, and apparently there was a lot of fan-girling, mostly on Benedict’s part. But Harrison did say that he’s a fan of Ben’s Sherlock. Apparently, Ben told Harrison: “When I met you in LA at a party we talked and I made a complete idiot of myself. You were very nice but I said, ‘I am a really, really big fan, I used to fantasize about you…’ What I meant to say was I used to fantasize about being Han Solo and Indy. You took it very well and said ‘it takes all sorts.’” Funny.

There’s some coverage of the show ahead of the airing, but it’s nothing spoiler-y. When asked about Sherlock Season 3, Cumby says: “I can’t say an awful lot but he comes back, there’s a reunion that doesn’t go as planned, there’s a wedding and there’s a new bad guy.” When asked how Sherlock survived, he said: “Smoke and mirrors.”

Also: as I mentioned in another post, Ben’s doing a Reddit AMA today at 2:30 EST I think. It should be either amazing or completely terrible. We’ll see. And Ben was interviewed on Good Morning America this morning (sorry this is such sh-tty quality, it was all I could find update: better quality video below):

And here’s a nice bonus – Benedict’s behind-the-scenes of his People Mag shoot. He was named one of the “Ones To Watch”. OMG HIS VOICE.

For once I am actually considering hitting that. He looks good.

  2. CaribbeanLaura says:

GAH Can’t wait to see this interview. I aloso find Jack Whitehall to be really funny ( that’s his name right?)

    • amelia says:

Yes it is, and yes he is!

    • Tish says:

From what I heard, Whitehall stole the show and made Ford to loosen up!

      • icerose says:

You were right Jack Whitehall did steal the show. He even made what the others said sound funny.

      • Ally8 says:

Google “Fresh Meat Series 1”. It’s this terrific show about students at a British college, and Whitehall does his great posh persona.

Btw, best Graham Norton episode of all time: Adele, Miranda Hart & Jack Whitehall.

  3. T.Fanty says:

    I adore the short hair.

And I’m letting the “Putting on the Ritz” look pass without comment. And calling it that is generous. EsCon was going with “Are You Being Served Mannequin.” I love the fact that someone in an office clearly thought “he’s British! Obviously a comedy top hat is the ONLY way to go!”

Christopher Tiejens wouldn’t have put up with this tomfoolery.

    • Lindy79 says:

Yeah not a fan of that look (would they have made a US actor dress that way, or even say Fassbender?), it’s lazy and cliche styling on the part of People.

*toddles back to look at Esquire photos again*

      • T.Fanty says:

When I first saw the top-hat pic, my first thought was “thank goodness for the Esquire pics, because I don’t have to hand in my Cumbercard in disgust.”

That said, I’m getting tired of seeing him adjust his cuffs in pictures. Is this just because Wanda isn’t around to dress him?

      • Lindy79 says:

Maybe he’s trying to make it his signature pose…

I’d like to see some more casual shoots, like maybe Harpers Bizarre

        http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_fNeXG9r94Y

      • Vesta says:

But there was only one cufflink picture? The one with the black leather gloved hands (those hands which should btw be caressing my ivory white back right now)

      • Sixer says:

Wanda is too busy with nametags to worry about cufflinks. He needs a sleeve assistant.

      • Green Girl says:

Eh, I wasn’t expecting anything cool or unique from the photo shoot.

      • curlsunited says:

The Daddy Long-Legs meets Chrissie Tietjens look is ridiculous, as is lounging in an armchair (again!) and waving your top-hat for the photographer. I mean, he’s not a professional model who has to sell a certain look. Just out of interest: theoretically, could he or any other actor have said no to the full get-up?

He obviously didn’t mind, good for him.

I dread the day they put him in a dragonfly suit (the only one not already bagsied by TH).

      • Lucrezia says:

“Putting on the Ritz” is pretty good, but I have “You Can Leave Your Hat On” running through my head. So if the rest of you don’t like Cumby in the top hat, I’ll happily take him off your hands.

(Also, thanks for posting that Lindy – I hadn’t seen it, and the brushed forward auburn fringe with short back and sides is my favourite Cumby look.)

      • Vesta says:

@Lucrezia – mmm, in your scenario, the hat is just spot on…

@curls, I too like to speculate if he could have just said no. It must have happened, so many actors are strict about their image. I know this is a part of his job, but I wonder what poor Cumby REALLY thought of this…?

      • EscapedConvent says:

I think he thought “This is so f***ing embarrassing. I look like a jackass. When did I agree to do this?”

I really thought his expressions in a couple of the pics were very awkward.

But then the Esquire pics came along, & we forgot (almost) about his Puttin’ On The Ritz silliness.

He is devastating in Esquire. I hope he got to keep the clothes, too.

      • Vesta says:

Except maybe that beavers collar coat. It could be trouble… But I of course thought the only deeper message he wanted to send us is that he’s very fond of certain other beavers.

      • LadySlippers says:

        @Vesta.

‘…he’s very fond of certain other beavers.’

        *speechless*

Did you really HAVE to go there?

        *dumbstruck again*

Please have some mercy on us…

      • Vesta says:

@LadySlipper, I apologize if I offended. (I’ve no other excuse than a cultural difference maybe).

EDIT: except now I’m not so sure anymore where I accidently went.

      • Lucrezia says:

IMO, there’s “fond” and then there’s “kill, skin, and wear as a collar”. But perhaps he meant it in the Amanda Bynes “murder my vagina” sense.

      • LadySlippers says:

Oh Vesta, I was NOT offended at all and my apologies if you thought that…

No I was objecting to the *very* sensual vision you created and that still has the bees all abuzz.

        *shifts around uncomfortably in seat*

      • Vesta says:

        @LadySlippers – *sigh of relief*

I was already terribly worried I might have offended somehow, because I just realized what I said could implicate many things (and actually be hurtful). And I ONLY wanted to hint it’s Friday and my mind has gone towards south…

(As a non-native speaker I mostly avoid commenting on any serious issues – my English isn’t just good enough. I’m here almost solely for… men. So, my only political stance is that I LOVE M-E-N. Well, not all of them, but quite many of them! *feeling ashamed* )

      • LadySlippers says:

        Oh Vesta,

I positively adore men, so no need to be ashamed (especially if it’s directed at sexy/cute gentlemen). And your beaver comment has some VERY sexual overtones that you may or may not have been aware of if English isn’t your native language. Just out if curiosity, what is your native language?

The bees are still abuzzing in the honeypot 😉

      • T.fanty says:

Chiming in to say that Vesta should ALWAYS go there. As should Cumby.

    • Kay says:

I love the short hair too! I also love that this man gets his money’s worth out of his suits! It’s an oddly endearing quality of his.

      • T.Fanty says:

I agree. Let’s hope Esquire let him keep the garb.

      • curlsunited says:

I quite like the idea of someone ringing Wandas’s doorbell and telling her that he has a delivery of suits and coats to be nametagged and he has to reverse in because he is in a VERY BIG van and all the stuff is for her dear son.

I bet the poor PA has been conscripted to sew in nametags, supervised by Wanda herself. And TFanty volunteered to lend a helping hand with the boxes of wine.

    • Sixer says:

The parting is mine, all mine. Well, could I get exclusive use for the odd five minutes here and there?

      • T.fanty says:

I’d need an application in writing and some form of surety that I’ll be getting him back pristine.

      • Sixer says:

        Dear Ms Fanty

I request sole use of Benny the Parting from time to time at mutual convenience.

I undertake to return him only slightly soiled. In a good way. I offer my second best ball gag as surety.

I look forward to a prompt reply.

        Faithfully

        Sixer

      • Vesta says:

Shoo, Sixer! I remember very well many moments Benny-cake didn’t appeal your appetite. And now I see your formal application… tsk, tsk. Cherry picking is not allowed.

Except, ok, should it be on Fridays?

      • T.fanty says:

Second best ball gag? Dang, I feel like Anne Hathaway (the original).

Does it come with a Puddletom attached?

      • Sixer says:

Heis only a part time dalliance, I confess.

Puddletom, Fizzy Hiddles and the emesis- basin worthy fan pics from the Sydney Q and A come free. In fact, I would pay you to take them away.

      • T.Fanty says:

I haven’t seen them yet. *scratches the Hiddles clause out of the contract*

Okay, you can have him when I’m hanging out with Wanda, the PA, and a box of wine. I won’t be good for much after that, anyway.

      • Sixer says:

He let them put a tumblr-style rose garland around his head and posed for pictures wearing it.

        I thank you. Very generous.

      • LadySlippers says:

        *ahem*

Twas it not you Sixer that just yesterday stated that you were taking Chiwetel to your room @ Thornfield??? AND (I must add) you stated quite poetically that Chiwetel tickled your toes better than current Thornfield lodgers BC & TH?!???? Hmmmmmm???!

*purses lips & shakes head disapprovingly*

        Most Glorious Fanty,

I do hereby request you pull the permission for Sixer to be allowed a dalliance with the Fabulous Benny Boy as she cannot and should not be allowed two boys at once. Especially when I rather fancy Fabulous Benny Boy dressed to the nines.

And Chiwetel should be allowed into general population as the hedgehogs want to see what all the fuss is about.

        Sincerely,

        Your Mistress of Propaganda
        LadySlippers

      • Sixer says:

I heard tell there is a word – consistency. I have never been able to define it. Likewise fidelity.

I’ll have plenty of time to gaze upon Chiwetel, contract or no contract, never thee fear!

      • LadySlippers says:

        Sixer,

Those are important words to know.

And stop being so selfish! You already have a cute boy in your room!!!

*grabs Fabulous Benny Boy and makes a run for it*

      • LadySlippers says:

        *pauses with indecision*

Oh Fanty I do so hope you forgive me as I’ve taken matter into my own hands

*frowns but continues to look for a place to stash Fabulous Benny Boy*

      • T.Fanty says:

I have a place to stash him, but unfortunately, to tell you would take us right back to Vesta’s objectionable remark above.

    • EscapedConvent says:

Now I’m beginning to see Fred Astaire. Oh please, please, someone put him in a film where he has to tap dance.

      Drunk.

      With a hat.

      • curlsunited says:

Grist for Cumby’s “I have a wonderful baritone voice and would like to do a musical” mill.

Would “Hamlet. The Musical” be out of the question, a bold combination of the glitzy and the sinister? Hatlet, pardon me, Hamlet could bring his own skull tie.

  4. Abby says:

This time I actually licked my tv when I saw him on Good morning America but so pissed that it was only 3 minutes.

Come on they could have given him more time SMH.

Seeing him with his idol Mr.Ford is making me all warm and fuzzy inside. I am so eager to see Graham Norton tonight. This Friday is dedicated to Cumby 😀

  5. GeeMoney says:

Love him! He looks great. Looking forward to seeing the Graham Norton show video.

  6. Allison says:

I would like to second OMG HIS VOICE.

    • Green Girl says:

IKR? I remember I didn’t get his appeal for quite some time. And then I heard him speak and was like “OK, I get it now!”

  7. Vesta says:

Huh, lots of things happening on Cumby field. I’m still overwhelmed with those Esquire pics (but could have of course watched them ALL again today).

That People spot is… I guess The Posh is back and sitting slightly bored in his golden privileged chair in some private gentlemen’s club. I’m not exactly excited…

That Harrison fantasy we have heard before, so I hope they come up with something new too.

    • T.Fanty says:

The Esquire pics give him a free DUC pass for about a year. They’re THAT good.

      • Abby says:

Heheee Amen to that T. Fanty.

      • Green Girl says:

A full year? Are you sure about that? I was going to be generous and say three months, tops. (I really, really hate that newsboy cap, shirt and striped shoes, though.)

      • T.Fanty says:

Okay: one year for fashion offenses, three months for fashion offenses combined with poor “female companion” choices.

Does that cover all bases? We remove one week for every linen hat he wears. Now that Sherlock is over, there’s really no excuse.

    • Vesta says:

I confess – I’ve no idea how many times I’ve watched the Esquire pictures while playing Right Said Fred’s “I’m too sexy” on a loop. Sometimes cliches just work best.

      *leaves for an encore*

  8. Maureen says:

LOVE HIM. Don’t care for the People photos. Yuck, pass.

  9. Tish says:

That People photoshoot (iiw, btw) reminds me of this documentary about his posh school (Harrow: A Very British School) where they have tails as a special school uniform. They wear it in this event where they do speeches in Latin.

  10. Kaiser says:

I can’t believe none of you are bringing up the fact that he name-drops “Olivia, my girlfriend at the time” in his People video. My heart skipped a beat when he said “girlfriend”.

    ONE DAY, MY CUMBY.

    • Maureen says:

I was only surprised her said her name, given the fact that Olivia recently said they are tired of being asked about each other all the time. He could just as well have said “my girlfriend at the time” but maybe he just wanted to give her credit for the moment he was describing.

    • T.fanty says:

I’m “working” and can’t watch it!

And quite frankly, until he says, “T.Fanty, my girlfriend of the future,” I’m not listening.

At least he didn’t say “Katia, my booty call of the summer.” However, I’m sure this comment is going to inspire a thousand tumblr conspiracy theories.

    • Sixer says:

You misheard, surely, ma cherie. He said SIXER. It kinda rhymes, so an understandable mistake.

    • Vesta says:

I don’t know, I guess I’m used to it and it was just a part of his answer. And I thought he specifically wanted to say her name to avoid any misunderstandings about some another gf.

    • Reece says:

Wait, I thought that was common knowledge? I glazed over it. I remember him name dropping her when they were together.

    • Vesta says:

@Reece, it is common knowledge, but they parted two years ago and he still keeps mentioning her surprisingly often.

  11. bettyrose says:

I would shamelessly fan-girl HF like fan-girling was going out of style. And when I tell him that I used to fantasize about him, let’s be cleat that I mean full on grinding sweaty fantasizing.

    • j.eyre says:

I’m with you, bettyr. I fan-girl over Harrison Ford daily. He was my first sex dream (not fantasy but the actual asleep dream)

Although, int he interest of full disclosure, today my first comment would be to thank him for his son’s Flatbreads which are as tasty as Han Solo.

  12. Sephora Wilson says:

I can’t wait to see this interview. Plus the Jimmy Fallon one tonight.

Off topic a little but I still think he is in love with Olivia. I mean they were together for a long time so it’s expected. I kinda wouldn’t mind them getting back together, even if I have shipped him with other actresses before.

I love this hair style on him. I’m kinda glad the curls are gone even if a part of me still miss them.

    • Maureen says:

That is a very real possibility, especially given that he wasn’t the one who ended the relationship and has stated that it was not his wish to end it. So yeah, very possible that she has moved on…and he’s not quite there yet. Letting go is damn hard.

    • Ag says:

I honk she has moved on and had a bf and.probably not in his N London circl.

@curlsunited he could say no to what he was wearing but maybe he thinks they know best and decided to go with it.

BTW just saw the film ummmm ?’

Kaiser I love you and all the Cumpy posts! They make my morning!

  15. Green Girl says:

Deleted, sorry – don’t want to take it off topic.

    • Lucrezia says:

Well now you’ve piqued my curiosity.

I’m going to amuse myself by imagining whatever you were thinking of saying was completely random. Aardvark is my go-to random word, so I’m assuming it was a fascinating story about aardvarks. 🙂

      • Sixer says:

        Let’s alphabetise.

I say this topic was blunderbuses.

      • T.fanty says:

        I like this game.

GG was wondering…. if the actors who played teletubbies went to drama school.

If a tree makes a sound if it falls in the forest and nobody is around.

If they really do drink umbongo in the Congo…

      • EscapedConvent says:

        @Fanty,

I’d kill to know the secrets of the Teletubbies.

I still have my Lala doll. She talks.

    • Green Girl says:

I was just wondering about the AMA thread, but wasn’t sure if it was against the site’s policy to go too much off-topic. (I know, so much more boring than what you were thinking!)

      • Lucrezia says:

We were just demonstrating that CB is pretty lenient with off-topic conversations. 🙂

But I’d bet my hat (or Cumby’s!) that Kaiser will do a separate AMA post, and she does get a little cranky if we start talking about stuff before she’s had a chance to give it its own write-up.

      • Green Girl says:

🙂 OK, thanks for the heads up! I haven’t been here long, so I don’t want to start by stepping on others’ toes.

  16. themummy says:

How can he be so odd looking and yet when I look at him all I can think about is sex with him?? Gah! He is so very attractive to me…even though he is both ugly and beautiful at the same time. Mind fuck!

    • Sephora Wilson says:

Lol!!! I agree. Like I don’t think he is ugly but can look odd at times. But I think there is something attractive about his face. I really believe that is his appeal. The fact that he doesn’t really look like anyone else, the weird face etc. I think its human nature to be attracted to things that are not so in the ordinary but something “different”.

I’ve heard the term uglyhot before used for him. It’s just so funny to me.

  17. janey says:

    APOLOGIES FOR THREADJACK, BUT:
They let DUC out for the AMA:

Q: Do you, Matt smith, and Tom Hiddleton have cheek bone polishing parties?

A:We like nothing better than buffing our Zygoma. And imagining a horny time traveling long overcoat purple scarf wearing super sleuth nordic legend fuck fantasy. Get to work on that, internet.

  20. claire says:

LOL! I came over here just to see if you all were talking about the AMA. Even though I’m usually one of the people on this site talking about how we don’t “get” the fascination with this guy, I must admit…I’m quite enjoying the AMA. He’s rubbing off on me. He is much wittier than I ever realized. And, OMG, Shitty Watercolour getting some feedback was a great moment. I love some SW!

    • T.fanty says:

Yes, but we are trying to show some restraint so as not to pre-empt our illustrious leader.

  21. kellyinseattle says:

Harrison Ford = yummy, still. His ears are getting a bit big, but I’d still do him…my first crush – Han Solo.

  22. icerose says:

I really struggle to find this man attractive despite his talent and that look is just so conservative. He just looks bland in a suit and lacks the style to pull off anything really individual. The Sherlock look does suit him. It mist be the longer hair as it makes him look younger and less conservative.
I always love the way stars fan each other I think it must be written into their contracts. The internet is buzzing about something he said about spending time with Tom and Matt so as its just starting I may give it a go.I can manage some Star Wars chat but can always turn the sound down if Fifth Estate comes up. Norton is the real star because he makes everyone sound funny.

  23. LadySlippers says:

I’m still almost faint w/ joy & lust over his Reddit answers…

    OH MY! 😀

    • curlsunited says:
