Halloween costumes: Kate Moss, Honey Boo Boo, January Jones & more

honey1

Lots of celebrities dressed up for Halloween this year, like every year. Celebrities are so weird – most of them get paid to dress up in costumes and pretend to be someone else, so isn’t it strange that they choose to do the same thing during their off-hours? And now I can’t help but wonder if Daniel Day-Lewis has ever gone full-on Method for Halloween. If Daniel Day Lewis dresses up as a vampire or a slutty nurse for Halloween, innocent people are going to get bloody no matter what. *sits quietly for a few minutes thinking about DDL in a slutty nurse costume*

Anyway, this is an assortment of Halloween costume photos, mostly from parties or from celebrities taking their kids trick-or-treating. As you can see, Honey Boo Boo and her family dressed up as the Kardashians, which is actually kind of funny. I don’t know who Honey Boo Boo is supposed to be though – Kourtney? Or Mason? Update: Oh, so she’s Kris Jenner.

Here’s January Jones dressed up as Betty Draper for Halloween.

Gwen Stefani as ?? I don’t even know. This is one of the reasons I hate Halloween – I feel like I should get the reference, and I just don’t. Maybe I don’t care enough. If she just supposed to be a princess? I feel like she’s maybe supposed to be Kim Kardashian too?

And finally, Kate Moss, Jamie Hince and Lila. I guess Kate’s a ghoul or a corpse bride or something. *sighs, sits quietly for another minute thinking about DDL in a nurse costume*

Honey Boo Boo is obviously Kris. How did you miss that?

  2. bns says:

I’m surprised by how much Kate Moss sucks at Halloween. Her costume last year looked cheap and worse put together than this one.

  3. Sarah B says:

Honey Boo Boo looks like Pimp Momma Kris to me.

  4. Raffy says:

I think Honey Boo Boos is Lucifer’s girl!! hahhahah

  5. Monkey Towz says:

Gwen Stefani looks really good with dark hair!

    • Jennifer says:

      She looks like Alyssa Milano

      • Monkey Towz says:

Dang, she kind if does in that 2nd pic. Both are beautiful imo. I would love to be able to pull off really dark hair. (I think ppl like GS have a look versatile enough for any color).

  6. truthful says:

Since Honey BooBoo is wearing a short wig, I think she is PMK–The matriarch of the family, LOL!

  7. tinyfencer says:

Maybe this is me being an old fogey, but I hate Halloween costumes where you can’t tell what the person is supposed to be, and when the costume is not a “thing.” I feel like you should be able to look at someone and go “oh, cool, you dressed as a (blank).” And you should be able to fill in the blank. Nurse is a costume. Pirate is a costume. Putting random makeup on your face is not a costume. My mom wanted to dress my kids in butterfly wings and skirts and I was like “what will they be dressed as?” And she said “they’ll be in skirts and have butterfly wings.” I replied, “but that’s not a THING.”

    • Hakura says:

@tinyfencer – I understand where you’re coming from, but I’ve always had a more ‘loose’ interpretation of ‘costumes’. I think a costume can be anything from an awesome ‘original idea’, to a different take on something that’s popular as a costume. The freedom of it allows people to get creative, & I think a lot of people try to ‘think outside the box’ & avoid options that have been done over & over already.

In Kate Moss’s case, it may be hard for some people to figure out (not insinuating that *you* didn’t =) ). But they did the makeup after the ‘sugar skulls’ of Dia Day Los Muertos (Day Of The Dead). I took her dress to have a sort of ‘hispanic dance’ style (Is that the correct term? Trying to be PC here, but not sure if ‘Hispanic’ is the right word), like dresses worn by salsa dancers, which would tie in to the day of the dead theme.

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

@hakura, it does look like a flamenco style dress with Día de Muertos style makeup (there actually should not be a Los in there). Día de Muertos is traditionally Mexican. In Spain, they celebrate Dia de Todos Los Santos, on the same day. The two holidays serve similar purposes, but have different names. So, when referring to Día de Muertos, it’s acceptable to call it a Mexican holiday. Sincerely, Morticians (whose abuelita is from Andalucia, Spain…the home of tapas and flamenco dancing).

      • Hakura says:

@Morticians – Thank you for the correction! =) It’s so weird, since I’ve only ever seen it referred to (granted, not by those who would traditionally celebrate the holiday) as having a ‘Los’ in it. *Flamenco*! That’s the one I was trying to think of, but couldn’t remember. Thank you so much for the explanation, & the info about the 2 different holidays. I’d never heard about ‘Dia de Todos Los Santos’ before. =) I’m just glad I won’t be perpetuating ignorance when mentioning this in the future xD

I find it to be a truly fascinating holiday… The odd way those who celebrate it can find a sense of ‘beauty’, even in death, & devote that day to those who have passed, is actually pretty inspiring. =)

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

@hakura, i have great affection for any tradition that celebrates love and life in the face of loss.

Also, flamenco is beautiful. We had flamenco performers at my wedding as a tribute to my abuelita (who was very sick and didn’t live very long after I was married).

      • Ennie says:

@Morticians, Spanish culture is beautiful, wish to learn more about it! Dia de Todos ls Santos would be celebrated on the 1st, and Dia de los Muertos, on the 2nd (Mexican here). In my state, the biggest traditional holiday is on the 1st, , but we do celebrate Dia de los muertos too, and visit the graveyard and make altars for the dead. Traditionally we would dedicate the 1st for the little children, and the2nd, for adults, but that is in my state.
Not a historian, but dia de los muertos honors our forefathers, and those relatives who already died, including small children. In some parts of the country (with bigger native population), they have a more complicated celebration and they know when the dead are “coming to visit”, hence the altars with their favorite food and drink, flower petals in the doorway so little children “find” their correct homes. It is impressive.
The well dressed sugar skull lady is a satirical creation of Posada, a well respected cartoonist and printer, and has made her way to mainstream culture thanks to Diego Rivera too.

  8. Patricia says:

Look at the way Kate Moss and husband are all about themselves and that child is standing behind. That’s always what it looks like when I see pics of that poor little girl. Hello it’s a child’s holiday!! Moss is so self centered. That picture speaks a thousand words.

    • Rachel says:

I noticed the same thing. Like it’s all about them, and her daughter is just left to hang behind and fend for herself.

    • Bodhi says:

Yup. She has hardly been involved in her life at all & only seems to drag her out for photo ops & press. I hope Kate’s mom is giving Lila a stable home life

      • Monkey Towz says:

To me her kid looks preoccupied with something else & not looking to be photographed anyway. I don’t understand how a few pics make KM look like a bad parent. She’s so private that I never hear about what kind of mother she is. But here in the States there isn’t much written about her anyway. Shrug

    • Annie2 says:

He doesn’t want to be associated with those people wearing “white face”. Too embarrasing

  9. T.Fanty says:

Let’s all pause for a moment to think about DDL in a slutty nurse costume……

And REALLY, Kardashian family? You’re going to sit in judgement on a low-class reality family? I think the only difference between the Honey BooBoo clan and the Kardashians is probably economics.

    • Tulip Garden says:

Never watched Honey Boo Boo but from comments I’ve read they also have more real love, affection, and common sense than the Kartrashians.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

I too have never seen the show but have read similar comments around here.

Still, wasn’t this young girl put into pageants etc?
That always gets the *side-eye* from me.

      • MollyB says:

That’s also what I have heard about them. Doesn’t the mother put away most of their earnings in a trust for their daughters? I admire that. And OriginalKitten, pageants are super, super common in the south. My brother’s fiance is from Alabama and she’s a very accomplished lawyer, living and working in Manhattan now. She did pageants all the way through college to earn money. According to her, it’s just what’s done there.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

That would be too intense. I’m not seeing My Left Sphygmomanometer.

  10. Cristina says:

Honey Boo Boo’s definitely Kris :))

  11. Naye in VA says:

Honey Boo Boo is supposed to be Kris! Awesome.

SN: January Jones just killed Halloween

  12. Funtimes18 says:

Sugar Bear as Bruce! Honey Booboo as Kris! Hilarious!

  13. Talie says:

Honey Boo Boo as Kris is genius. And I love that January dressed as Betty… hey, it’s the part of her lifetime. Why not?

  14. Macey says:

Honey Boo Boo is PMK, I didnt notice at first either. I was lolling at that pic so much last night. I dont watch either show but this makes me like the Boo Boo clan a bit more.

The only thing missing is Heidi Klum’s pic. I havent seen anything about her yet and this is her holiday. I actually look forward to seeing her costumes even tho Im not really into the whole Halloween thing.

Edit… I did not see HK has her own thread…nevermind that last part.

  15. BW says:

Love Stefani in dark hair. Sometimes you just need to wear a tiara. I get it.

  16. grabbyhands says:

And finally, Kate Moss, Jamie Hince and Lila. I guess Kate’s a ghoul or a corpse bride or something.

Look up Dia de los Muertos.

  17. Jen says:

I loathe everything Honey Boo Boo stands for, but their costumes make me think they’re not the devils incarnate.

Unlike the actual Kardashians, who definitely are.

    • Hakura says:

@Jen – “Unlike the actual Kardashians, who definitely are.

And given some people’s fascination with doing ‘evil’ for Halloween, I can’t think of a better costume. Sadly, most of the girls/women who dressed as ‘celebrities’ opted for Miley’s VMA outfit instead.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

At least the Angevins truly gave us a show, THAT was a real soap opera.

Will anyone rid us of this turbulent pimp?

    • Shoe_Lover says:

I take it you have never watched Here come Honey Boo Boo then? Sure they have some disgusting habits but they are decent people, they love and support each other, they help charity and Mama June puts the money they earn from the show away in a trust fund for the girls. Sugar Bear still works every day and Mama June still coupons. they are decent people so I don’t see why you can judge and hate them

  18. booboobird says:

aren’t Moss and her husband dressed as dia de los muertos characters?
my son went dressed as a ghost. cheap and easy to make – white sheet, cut two holes for eyes and done. saw a lot of disney polyester. nothing offensive though.
the amount of leopard print in honey boo boo pictures makes my eyes burn.

    • lylaooo says:

yes… they are..her caracter is known as “LA CATRINA”, la catrina represents the people who cares about money, apparences, to fit in society, la catrina also represents “la huesuda” (la huesuda is the one who comes for you when your going to die). and he is “EL CATRIN” la cartina partner.

  19. Adrien says:

Maybe Kate Moss was supposed to be a zombie Rebecca Gayheart? Sugar Bear looked like Avril Lavigne’s ex husband, with or without the costume.

  20. bettyrose says:

January Jones! Show of hands… how many people here dressed up as their own jobs for Halloween? Duuuude, January Jones is just like us!

  21. Yelly says:

Aww the Honey Boo Boo family as the Kardashians. So freakin adorable.

  22. Nicolette says:

Wonder if SJP watches “Hocus Pocus” with her kids. It is one of our favorite Halloween movies to watch. SJP, Bette and Kathy were all great in it, and it’s part of our Halloween ‘tradition’.

    • Hakura says:

For the LONGEST time, I didn’t realize that was SJP in Hocus Pocus! Her face just looks so… different. Upon watching it again as an adult, I saw that they used pretty clever camera angles to avoid showing too much of her profile, minimizing the appearance of her nose (seeing as straight on, it doesn’t look particularly large or anything). I just adore that movie…. *sigh* Melancholy.

  23. j.eyre says:

I am going to cast my vote for Molly Sims on this one.

I kind of love that SJP bought those costumes at H&M, the girls look great.

I think Kate and her friend look good. I want to celebrate Dios de la Muertos next year and decorate skulls instead of pumpkins. They had some amazing ones around here.

    • Hakura says:

@j.eyre – I really love the skulls, such an odd combination of a symbol of ‘death’ & ‘beauty’. Actually, I had (before getting online today) already planned to go to the Halloween store today (since everything will be ‘on-sale’ or ‘clearance’), & get some makeup, so I can try my hand at painting a ‘day of the dead’ skull on my face. I’m not really loving the style Kate Moss chose for their’s… It’s really way too plain & boring, no decorative aspects like the ‘real’ sugar skulls at all. Not to brag, but I’m pretty proud of my ability with makeup, so we’ll see how it turns out. xD

I so wish I could be a makeup artist, but it is *so* competitive & hard to get a foothold in… Most people I’ve heard about had to have ‘connections’ to people already in the industry just to get their foot in the door.

      • j.eyre says:

I will confess, I do not know enough about the holiday yet and that is why we did not to celebrate it this year. I will do my research for next year so I can pay it the proper respect. I am sure if I knew more about it now, I would be disappointed in their costumes as well.

      • Hakura says:

@j.eyre – I’m totally with you, on that. My family doesn’t, nor do any of my friends, celebrate the holiday, & I only truly know small details at best. MorticiansDoItDeader replied to one of my posts a little ways up, explaining that there are separate, but similar, holidays celebrated in Mexico & Spain respectively (That serve the same purpose, & happen on the same day, but are not exactly the same). I had no idea.

My face painting will be purely just for the hell of it, though, more of an artistic endeavor I want to try, as opposed to going out wearing it. I agree with you entirely, & would definitely not want to be ignorant of any aspect of such a meaningful holiday for those who celebrate it. Being respectful comes first. =)

    • Dommy Dearest says:

I’m honestly surprised no one has climbed aboard the chipped shoulder train to say that their costumes are offensive to the Mexican community. Cause that’s what I was expecting considering yesterdays post.

      • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

        You brought it up.

      • Dommy Dearest says:

I did! If you read any of my comments yesterday it was in defense of the costume rather than finding it racist. I’m just not fully understanding why it hasn’t been brought up with the Day of the Dead costume.

  24. vixo says:

Love Honey Booboo as PMK !

  25. K says:

Kate and Jamie: Mexican day of the Dead, right?

  26. Mel says:

Gwen is dressed as Galinda from Oz the Great and Powerful, not sure why she chose to wear the dark wig.

  27. Hannahf says:

I don’t know the names but the person on the far right is dressed as Scott Disick

  28. bluhare says:

If you didn’t see Bo and Sunny Obama, they were adorable as a pirate and sunflower.

And since I brought politics into it, I think the nicest photo I ever saw of George W. is the one Jenna took of him holding her daughter (who was dressed as a woolly astronaut). He adores that little baby.

  29. Dommy Dearest says:

Oh hey! That’s the day of the dead makeup! That’s insulting to that particular culture!!! For shame they should be. Don’t they know how offensive that is? First Indians and now this. My my I just can’t believe my eyes. What is it that I got yesterday… OH! Smh.

Oh look Kim has her original face again!

  30. tifzlan says:

In that getup, Gwen Stefani kind of looks like a C-rate version of the fabulous Sharon Needles. But i still don’t know what she’s supposed to be though so.

  31. Miffy says:

SJP’s kids went as various Carrie Bradshaw ensembles.

Gwen Stefani is OBVIOUSLY Fran Drescher from the unaired episode of The Nanny when he finally marries whatshisname.

  32. mikhail says:

*sits quietly for a few hours thinking about DDL in a slutty nurse costume doing things*
    #le_sigh
    *wipes cum*

  33. cyndi says:

Loving Mama June *AND* Poodle both as prize hog #1. And Alana as P(grand)MK, and Jessica as Scott Isadick. And Sugar Bear is *so* channeling his inner Olympic champion!
I love how HCHBB and Duck Dynasty have just totally kicked ass over the Trashashians! Especially DD having the record amount of viewers for a Season premiere *EVER*!!! Haha….suck THAT beet-chesss!!! xD

  34. poppy says:

    january jones is frightening.
that is serious scary b:tch face.

  35. Jenn says:

I kind of don’t dislike the Booboos as much now. Those costumes are awesome. That Honeychile is cute.
Wtf is January up to with that Inception-y costume of hers? She could’ve at least worn the Emma Frost costume and gotten herself a date for the evening.

  36. girlnamedgrace says:

I think Gwen Stefani is dressed as Jennifer Connelly’s character in Labyrinth?

  37. Jesusia says:

Kate Moss is getting old, in more ways than one.
