Here are some great new photos of Michael B. Jordan, enjoying some sun and surf down in Miami this weekend. He’s in the company of a female friend who… I’m guessing she’s a girlfriend. The cut of her bikini suggests that she is – at the very least! – a regular hookup, a friend with lots of benefits (benefit = that ass!). Michael’s got a great body, right? I had no idea. I mean, he’s young so I figured he was in good shape but damn! His shoulders are giving me a fever.
Michael has been making the rounds lately, promoting that silly-looking movie, That Awkward Moment, where he seems to be playing second fiddle to Zac Efron. There’s something wrong with that in general, but I have to give Michael some credit – he has not acted like the film’s promotional tour is beneath him in any way. For his part, Michael has said in interviews that he agreed to do the film because he had never done a mainstream Hollywood comedy and because he wanted to do something with actors from his generation.
If I had to name my biggest disappointment with this year’s awards season, it’s that Michael isn’t getting as much love as I think he deserves. He was a revelation in Fruitvale Station, and as more people see it, I think his realistic, three-dimensional portrait of the late Oscar Grant will be recognized as the star-making performance that it is. Fruitvale Station got a handful of Independent Spirit Award noms (with a lead actor nomination for Michael), plus he’s won some of the “Breakthrough” and “spotlight” awards at some of the critics’ awards. But the film and Michael individually weren’t nominated for anything major – no Oscar or Golden Globe nominations, no SAG, no Writers Guild or Directors Guild or anything like that. It sucks. Perhaps the film wasn’t recognized because it didn’t have a “white savior”.

I would. He’s gorgeous. I don’t think Fruitvale was ignored because it lacked a white savior, I think it was ignored because it came out over the summer and could not maintain Oscar momentum, most likely because the studio did not put enough oomph into an Oscar campaign. Robert Redford said the same about All Is Lost. Many predicted that he would be shoo-in for a nod and the movie received no nods.
All of that being said, I appreciate that Michael wants to work with people his own age but That Awkward Moment looks terrible. Michael is very talented and I loved him on Parenthood. And I remember him playing Reggie on All My Children.
I think the Weinstein Co. could have taken some lessons from Fox Searchlight on awards marketing Fruitvale.
Fox released/marketed Beasts of the Southern Wild last year, which was released around the same time of the year as Fruitvale. I think FS did a much better job of reminding awards voters about Beasts than WC did for Fruitvale.
This year was ridiculously competitive in the Best Actor category, and had Fruitvale come out last year Jordan would most likely have gotten a lot more recognition. That also ended up splitting TWC’s focus – they probably pushed other movies with more commercial success (like The Butler) in the hopes of more awards season traction. But people definitely still took notice of Jordan, big awards or not.
You won’t regret seeing it. I saw an advanced screening earlier this week and it was pretty hilarious. It’s a lighthearted movie and all three leads have great bromantic chemistry. I didn’t feel like there was Efron overload or anything.
Normally I’d rather gouge out my eyeballs with rusty nails then see the latest “rom-com” but “That Awkward Moment” looks really cute! I’m glad to hear that it’s good 😄
I agree with the timing problem too, that was my first thought when it was overlooked. He and the film did get some attention months ago, but it’s too hard to maintain that, especially for a small film and a lower profile actor.
I wish great things for him though, I’ve been a fan since FNL and Parenthood. He’s a really terrific actor.
I have to disagree. Hollywood is behind the times when it comes to “racial awareness” — and as such, in my opinion, it’s helping the country go backwards in that department. And I don’t buy the “Oh, it was just a matter of marketing,” because I don’t know what it was like in other areas, but I had never heard one word about “Nebraska” — but that got nominated for all kinds of awards. When we make excuses for racist crap, it continues. Saying that Fruitvale Station’s Oscar sunb had nothing to do with race, IMO, is making excuses for racist behavior.
@ vangroovy: I agree.
Fruitvale Station wasn’t perfect but 12YAS was good (not perfect) and with 12YAS the Academy already had its ‘token’ non-white movie in the mix. So FS didn’t need to be drummed up because of that.
So FS, for a variety of reasons including subject matter, colour of cast, lack of marketing, etc. etc. etc. didn’t get the attention it so richly deserved. But the subject matter and colour of the cast absolutely played a part — it wasn’t the only issue but add that into the mix and it’s suddenly a tougher sale for marketers and reviewers.
FYI *thank you* to the entire CeleBitchy Family (i.e. posters & moderators) because of you I saw this (I drove across town to find a RedBox that had it!!) and I might not have discovered it if it were not for you all. And this was a gem of a movie. Thank you.
This! Right here! This! Half the movies that are oscar nominated I have NEVER heard of before.
Lotsa love for MBJ since he played Wallace from the wire. I hope for his continued success, he’s so talented. He will win awards at some point. His talent is too good.
Yeah, he did such a good job in The Wire that I still think of him as young Wallace. Because of this, I was a bit startled to see the ‘shag’ question.
Omg…! Hello…. He is truly gorgeous. Thanks Kaiser!
Girlfriend needs to blend her foundation /makeup – up to her hair line.
His body is nice. Not to buff, it has softness about too.
As for the girl. Guess we know who called the paps! Full makeup at the beach?! Stupid girl.
Somebody just wanted to be seen.
yes
I loved him on Friday Night Lights and yes!
I would shag Michael without a doubt. He’s hot, but I’m probably wanting to bang him just cause he was Vince in Friday Night Lights. 😉
He’s a handsome guy but that new movie looks awful awful awful!! See you next time Michael. 🙂
He’s the total package: hot, smart, funny, and talented. Love him.
I wouldn’t because weak chins put me off. I really like MBJ though. And yes, hot bod!
I agree. I totally like him and admire his talent, but have never found him handsome. Great body, though.
Im with you. A no for me. He has a “Carlton” face lol
SO GLAD you appreciate some good shoulder – my favorite part of a man!
Would I shag him??
No — but he does have a nice body & his girlfriend is gorgeous.
I have loved him in everything he has done- Parenthood, FNL, The Wire.
Would I hit it? Yes.
At least he has a normal name … not like all this Lil Za and other stupid BS names everyone seems to have these days.
What a back-handed compliment. Why wouldn’t Michael have a “normal name”? So now we are comparing silly, adolescent wanna-be rappers to award winning actors? Most rappers I can think of have stage names. Gimme a break.
@Lis Are you just comparing them because they’re black? Wow, racist much?
WTH Rappers have always used nicknames from Big Daddy Kane,LL Cool J,Dr Dre,Eminen to Macklemore(Ben Haggerty).I am confused what does Michael B Jordan has to do with Rap music?
Wow, if that wasn’t one of the most racist comments. I’m not quick to point the racist finger but dear lord. You just grouped in a race due to some individuals having a particular name for their public persona with all men of that race. What’s next are you surprised he doesn’t play basketball? Passive aggressive racism is still racism.
I probably would. I’m a sucker for nice shoulders and damn, those are some nice shoulders. I also have serious leg envy of his lady friend.
All My Children’s little Reggie Montgomery is all grown up and stunning! So sad he did not get the awards recognition he deserved for Fruitvale Station, but he has a bright career ahead of him. Would love to see a reunion of him and his AMC love interest Amanda Seyfried in something. They had on-screen chemistry.
I wouldn’t bang him because I’m too old, and everything I’ve loved him in (The Wire, FNL and Fruitvale) has made me feel super maternal towards him, but I LOVE him and hope he goes far.
He has a Nick Cannon vibe to him, so probably not.
He does look like Nick Cannon. Is he Michael Jordan’s son?
No
I’d definitely shag him – great talent and an amazing bod! What a total package! 🙂
Nice feature Kaiser!
Thanks kaiser!!! Love this guy,he was my favorite on parenthood.
OMG I’m sooooo hype that he’s made it to the site. I LOVE HIM! He will forever be Wallace (from the Wire) to me. Which kind of makes my lust for him inappropriate. But I LOVE HIM. You have to hear him in interviews. He’s funny and smart and humble. I hope hollywood doesn’t ruin him.
I hope that she’s just a booty call. All of that makeup at the beach is one of the four indicators of skankdom.
I’ve never heard of him but I’ve seen two trailers of movies he’s in. I also know that he is going to play Human Torch in the new Fantastic Four movies. I was hesitant at first (Because I’m a Taurus, I’m stubborn to change) but after seeing them I HAVE to say that I’m intrigued. He is attractive and I’d love to see what he’s going to bring to Johnny Storm!
I was hesitant too. But only because I hate that Chris Evans got to play two marvel superheros. It felt like they were giving my baby Michael here the table scraps. But I love him and am so excited for him. He’s also in that Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox film. He voices Cyborg.
You think you’re stubborn because of your star sign?
It’s funny because ‘That Awkward Moment’ was probably put together with Zac Efron as the big lead, and during the time between filming and release, Michael B. Jordan and Miles Teller have become part of the “seriously talented young actor” club with ‘Fruitvale Station’ and ‘The Spectacular Now.’ (Miles Teller has another great performance in ‘Whiplash’ out of Sundance, which got a fantastic reception and won several big awards, and Michael B. Jordan is moving up to the big leagues.)
I wonder if more people will go see that movie for the two of them than for Efron; I know if I see it, it’s because I like Jordan and Teller.
I don’t know… I thought he was incredibly hot but then he did in interview where he came across as more than a little bit sexist: http://www.glamour.com/sex-love-life/blogs/smitten/2014/01/zac-efron-that-awkward-moment.html
I still think he’s really talented and should’ve been nommed for Fruitvale but his personality is turning me off.
Michael was excellent in The Wire. Will always be torn up by his portrayal of Wallace. As for Zach Efron I have ONLY been made aware of him by seeing his name mentioned on gossip sites. Nothing I have read or seen interests me about him or encourages me to see his work. Rate posts about Efron as interesting as receiving spam mail.
Love him! Just saw Fruitvale Station. Great movie and thought he was amazing in it (and so we’re most of the other actors.) After watching it, I read reviews online from Forbes and others criticizing it – mainly because apparently the director tried to make Grant (who MBJ plays) more sympathetic to the audience by adding elements to the movie and to Grant’s personality/behavior that weren’t true. Their beef was that the director didn’t need to do this since no person deserves what happened in the end of the movie, regardless of the type of person they are, so he didn’t need to paint a nicer picture for viewers. Another criticism was that it seemed be a sort of call to action and to imply justice wasn’t done, but sentences have already been carried out, etc. Either way, thought the movie, and MBJ, were great!
Is water wet? His eyes and smile get me every time.
